Can't edit ipod (add/delete songs/playlists)

I rebooted my pc with my 30gb 5th gen. ipod still connected. The next time I plugged in my ipod a pop up box came on and asked if I wanted to set up my ipod (as if it were a different ipod). the first time it happened I said no and the ipod worked as it normally did. the next time, like an idiot a clicked yes. ITunes recognizes my ipod but won't let me make any changes like adding/deleting songs or playlists. Do I need to restore it and if so how do I do that? Is there something else I need to do?

it must be on auto sync, try checking the 'manually manage ipod' box in itunes when youre ipods connected.

I need help please. My Ipod is currently full and I can't seem to delete songs/playlist to make more room. My I pod is set to maually update. I can connect my Ipod and higlight the songs/playlist I want to delete and right click and delete. But the Ipod still says I have the same amount of songs on it and the same amout of used MB. The songs/playlist are no longer on my Ipod (I can't play them) but I just don't seem to be making room to add more onto my Ipod. From what I understand you are deleting the playlists. THe playlist only organizes the songs you have in your library. This will not delete the song from the library. In order to get more space, just click on the small box next to the name of the song (The box will not have a check now). THis way you will have the song on your library but will not be loaded on you ipod.

I just recently got a new laptop and transfered everything over and it seemed to be ok but now having issues playing videos and can't edit any of my song info in music files

I just got a new laptop so I had to transfer everything over and I thought everything would be ok but I'm having some strange issues especially with my purchased tv shows, movies, and music videos. They just wont play. Sometimes I'll get lucky and a tv show will play but if I stop it and try again it wont. If I open in Quicktime it works fine. The computer is authorized so that shouldnt be it especially if it plays in QT and like I said sometimes I'll get lucky and one will play. Now the other thing I just noticed is all my music files play fine but when opening and looking at the info of the music file I can't edit anything for example song title or artist the area seems shaded and won't let me do any editing. So I'm having those 2 issues. Video files not playing ones that I have purchased. movies, tv shows and music videos. Also like I said if I just sit there and click one after another I may get lucky and one will play but if I stop it and try again it will not play again. And I can't seem to edit any music file which play fine. I have a new Dell with windows 7 and I have never had this happen any help would be great. The computer is authorized for i tunes so it cant be that.

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.

Contact can be edited but not deleted

Hi there,
New poster here and I wanted to share something peculiar about my new kin twom. I seem to have one contact that can be edited but not deleted. When I click the contact, all I get at the top are "favorite" and "edit" buttons. However, all my other contacts seem to have an "edit" button on top as well as a "more" button that, when clicked, gives you the option to "delete", "link", or make the contact a "favorite".
I can live with this non-deletable contact but I'm very curious as to how/why this happened. Anyone have any ideas?

New computer: Can I upload new songs from my new computer to my old ipod without deleting the playlists that already exist??

I recently had to purchase a new computer due to my old one shooting sparks and almost setting fire to my furniture when I used it. I can use it rarely to try to get my itunes loaded to transfer over, but it usually doesn't cooperate. I now have a bunch of new songs on my new itunes from purchases and also uploading old cd's. I want to be able to add these songs to my playlists I already have mostly because I use my ipod to work out and also, there are a large amount of songs from my old computer on playlists currently. Is there anyway to make new playlists from my new computer onto my old ipod??

You should be backing up regularly so you can transfer your library to the new computer.

I create playlists for categories of non-music files - podcasts, books, dramatizations, etc. The playlist categories are permanent, but not always in use.
Every time I delete the last file in a playlist, iTunes deletes the playlist off my iPod. Next time I have a file of that ype, I have to add the playlist back again. Is there any way to tell iTunes to keep the playlist on my iPod until I delete it?
Or is the only solution to keep one file in each playlist?

I can't add/delete songs from my phone on iTunes

I have a Macbook Air and an iPhone 5s. When I plug my iPhone into my computer, there is no "add to" option to add songs to my phone. Also, when I click the songs on my phone, it gives me many options like "Get info" but no "delete" option. It is incredibly frustrating because I would just like to add some songs from my computer to my phone. I should also note that the drag & drop option is not working either. I used to buy songs on another account and I have songs on my phone from other libraries that I don't want to lose, so I don't want to delete them all & sync the whole library that is on my Mac. If anyone knows what the problem is, I would really appreciate your help. Thank you!

iPhone will sync or manually manage with one computer at a time. Syncing or manually managing music with another will erase the current content from the iPhone.
Put all of your music on one computer and sync to that computer.

How to edit ipod touch 4th gen playlists in iTunes 11??

Okay, maybe this is just me and I can't figure it out. But ever since the update (which I hate, btw) I have had a really hard time editing my ipod touch playlists. I don't have ALL of my music from my iPod in my iTunes library, so I like to be able to edit my playlists on my iPod without having to sync anything. But now, I can NOT for the LIFE OF ME figure out how to edit my iPod playlists in iTunes itself. Here are the specific things I want to do that I can't figure out:
1. If I have a newly downloaded song in my iTunes library, it won't let me drag it to a specific playlist in my ipod. It makes me just drag the song onto my ipod and I have to then go into my ACTUAL ipod and add that song to whatever playlist I want. But I have to do it ON my ipod. I can't do it from Itunes.
2. If I want to delete a song from a playlist on my ipod/ move any songs around in my playlists, I can't do it from itunes like I used to. I have to do it manually on the ipod.
Theres a few other things that I don't like but can live with. But this is ridiculous. Apple is really ******* me off. Can ANYONE out there help me with any of these problems? Is it something I'm just going to have to deal with? Or is there a way around it? Or do I have to uncheck something that will let me edit??? AHHH HELPPPPP MEEEE........

Help! iPod Touch deleted songs after connecting to iTunes but songs still show up in iTunes display

I connected my iPod Touch 64GB (iOS 5.1.1.) to iTunes (12.0.5.00) on my MacBook Pro (10.10.2) in order to add a couple of podcasts. Unfortunately, now only the podcasts show up on my iPod display -- they're the only audio media on the device. My 6500 songs, all my playlists are gone from the iPod (and iPod display) as well. However, on the iTunes display on my computer, when my iPod is connected, all my songs and playlists are there.
Hoping I can get some help figuring out what went wrong and how to get the songs back on my iPod so I don't have to manually add them all from a backup external hard drive (I don't keep them all in iTunes nor all the backup files on my computer's hard drive to save space).
You can see in the photo below on the left side of the display, 'On My Device', all my playlists remain. On the main display, all my music is there -- it's just not on the actual iPod itself. You can also see at the bottom of the screen, the iPod capacity bar, which shows that 56.80 GB is free, suggesting the songs are in fact, deleted from the iPod.
Can anyone assist? Any thoughts as to why the songs & playlists still show up in iTunes if they are in reality deleted from the iPod?

And I've now tried connecting the iPod to an older Macbook running iTunes 12.0.0.140 and I'm getting the same thing -- the songs and media shows up under 'Devices' on the left, but they are not actually there. Trying to double click on them brings up the symbol. Wondering how the 'ghost' effect of them showing up in iTunes can happen if they are no longer on the iPod itself.

I'm editing a band deleting songs, then suddenly it deleted all of the songs by an artist! It's happened twice. Once I tried to restore them from the recycle bin but it did'nt work. The 2nd time the songs were not in the recycle bin. Why?

I'm editing a band by deleting songs I do not like on iTunes on my PC. When I believe I'm deleting a song it ends up deleting ALL of the songs by that band (this is after I've deleted many individual songs sucessfully)! This has happened twice since the new version of iTunes. The first time I tried to restore the songs from my recycle bin but they just vanished when I tried to restore them. The second time (today) the songs were not even in the recycle bin. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I have to now relocate all of those cd's and then reinstall them and go through them and put songs back onto various playlists (I have a lot of them). Hassle!!!
