Can't edit .mov artwork

I have imported some movie (.mov) files into iTunes 7.1.1 and can't change the artwork field. The Add and Delete buttons are greyed out. Mp4 files work fine, and I know that at least in past, it's been possible to do this on .movs as well. It's unclear whether this problem has been caused by QuickTime 7.1.6 or by iTunes 7.1.1 - has anyone else had difficulty or success with doing this?

If you exported the files from iMovie, you more than likely used the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC), for which there is no decoder component on Windows. Short story: these files will never playback on a PC. Either work with the original MOD files (search around here, there are suggestions of how to do so) or re-export from iMovie and be sure to use a different codec, like DV or MJPEG. Those should playback just fine on the PC.

Can't edit movie artwork (greyed out on Get Info tabs)

All I need to know is how to be able to add artwork to my movies that are being read form an external hard drive. When I press CMD+I for the get info window the option to even select the Artwork tab is greyed out and unavailabe. How do I get it to add artwork that I have found online?
I did not have this problem when itunes was reading the movies from my actual mac computer it only started when I made itunes read the movies from my external drive. I can still edit the artwork for the ones that are not on my external drive yet and are only on my actual mac computer. Why is this happeneing?

When you add a movie to iTunes you have to make sure it makes a copy of the file in the iTunes Media folder. Otherwise, you can't edit any of the information on the movie or video.
In iTunes 12, go to Edit-->Preferences
In Preferences, go to Advanced and make sure the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library".
Unfortunately, you will now have to re-import the movie files into iTunes using "Add File To Library..." Once imported, the movie will sometimes appear under "Home Movies" instead of "Movies" but if you right click on the movie file it will list a menu item called "Get Info" where you can change the "Options" to "Movie". You should also be able to click the "Add Artwork" button.

How can I edit movie metadata?

I have a couple of films I was given copies of, and want to put them into iTunes, but it doesn't show much information. I can't edit the metadata to incude director and cast or any of that. Is there any way to do this?? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Select all the images and then choose "Batch Change" from the Metadata menu.
Make your changes. It will append the metadata to the existing, unless you click the "replace" checkbox.

Can't edit movie in QT Pro

I have a mpg that I took on my digital camera. It plays fine in QT but the editing controls are not showing up as I roll over the timeline.
Also when i import into iMovie, I get the video but there is no audio.

Multiplexed compression formats like MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 are "playback only" as far as the QT structure is concerned. Since the content is not "edit" compatible, QT Pro's contextual menus/controls are de-activated. And, while the video content can be converted to a fully compatible QT compression format, it will lose the audio since QT (a multitrack time-based engine) does not know how to cope with multiplexed files with spatially interspersed blocks of audio and video content in a single data stream. In this case, use an MPEG-based, third-party application like MPEG Streamclip (free) for your conversions to iMovie "native" editing compression formats like DV. NOTE: MPEG Streamclip requires the QT MPEG-2 Playback component for use with MPEG-2 files.

Premiere Elements 2.0 how can I edit MOV. files from my camcorder

I have Elements 2.0 and I can't get it to work with the mov. files from my canon digital camcorder. The picture does not even come in and then I tried to convert the mov. file to mpeg2 and that worked ok but when I moved it to the elements editing software the video played perfect but the sound would not come in at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, MOV is but a "wrapper," and can contain all sorts of "stuff," mostly different CODEC's. This ARTICLE will give you background on what can be inside those "wrappers," plus tell you how to "peek" inside of them.
For most MOV files, I use Apple's QuickTime Pro (US$29 upgrade/unlock), and choose DV-AVI w/ the DV/DVCPRO CODEC (compression) and 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV for the Audio.
About the only MOV format/CODEC, that I do not have issues with is the Animation CODEC. I use those in PrPro to edit natively, when an artist, or client provides me material from a Mac. I just specify the Animation CODEC, and things work fine. Other MOV CODEC's - well, not so well.

Can not edit movie...

Can someone help me out with this?
I had a movie I was working on and today when I come in to work on it and open it up it won't allow me to edit any part of it (won't open a tab in the Browser).
I looked at some other movie files and there seems to be a difference in the type of format it is being listed as. This particular movie is saying that it is a FCE movie file and the others are saying that they're FCE project file.
I didn't do anything any differently so I'm not completely sure how this happened.
Any clues?

If the icon has a blue Q inside it, the file is a QuickTime Movie, not a project file. You're project file must be some place else. Use the Finder to try to locate it or look if there is a copy in the autosave vault.

Why can't I move artwork with the perspective selection tool?

I created a carpet and decorated it with symbols. When I tried to place it in the perspective grid with the perspective tool, it wouldn't move. I can move it fine with the selection tool and there's a bounding box but nothing happens when I use the perspective selection tool.

You have to make sure that one of the grids (Left, Right, Horizontal) is active.
Just check the widget that appears when you select the Perspective Grid Tool. You can click on those sides of the cube with the Perspective Grid or the Perspective Selection Tool to make one of them active. You can also press the key 1, 2 or 3 to make either of those grids active.
If you click on the circular portion outside the cube, none of the grids is active. Then you can't move the artwork with the Perspective Selection Tool. You can press the key 4 to make none of the grids active which is especially useful when you don't want your artwork to distort in perspective while still working with the Perspective Grid showing on the artboard.

How can I edit movies from an external hard drive.

I am having trouble trying to find out haow to edit a lot of movie film that is now digitized . I want otdo it from an external hard drive or some other way without haveing to download all of it onto my computer. I do not have room. I want to make a number of different dvds from the same footage.

If you want to keep the actual files on the external, you will goto the File menu in iTUnes and select "Add file or add folder to Library". this will keep the files on the external but list them in iTUnes while its connected to the PC. When you disconnect the external tho iTunes will show a ! mark beside the songs cuz it won't be able to find them.
If you want to move the files off the external onto the desktop, you will goto file and select "Import" This will copy?move the file from the external to the "iTunes Music" folder on your desktop

Can't edit .mov files in Premiere!

Ok I am running adobe premiere pro cs4 version 4.2.1.
The media files were originally filmed via a canon legria fs2000 which used the .MOD file format. These don't play on adobe premiere and I had issues using them on final cut. I used imovie pro to export the media which saved the files as .mov quicktime files which SHOULD be readable on my pc with adobe premiere... yet they are not.
Quicktime won't play the .mov files, nor will sony vegas on pc.

So help would be much appreciated... I also went System > List codecs and other filters > and in the list many adobe codecs were highlighted red, I right clicked for information and they said the file was missing, although i went to the file location and they were there.
Do I need to download codecs... Where? How? Please help this is urgent for uni projects

I have some Youtube movies in iTunes that I would like to shorten a little but when I try to open the export in iMovie I cannot. What format do I need to be able to do this?

I just checked a couple of the movies to see what the inspector would find.
Here is the info on one (the other the same):
Format:
H.264, 720x480 millions
AAC, 2 channels, 48000 Hz.
These are movies from Youtube downloaded with Cosmopod and imported into iTunes.

Quicktime Pro 7.6.5 can't edit MOV files

When I use the "show movie properties" I get an error that quicktime is unable to load the property panel. I've never had this problem with any previous version of Quicktime Pro. Even older MOV files that were fine under older versions of QT are causing this error in version 7.

How do I edit optimised artwork in Illustrator so that the changes apply to all its instances?

I am working on a layout in Flash Catalyst CS5 that I exported from Illustrator that is made of many instances of various optimised graphics. I now changed my mind about one of my optimised graphics and would like to make a change to it in Illustrator however I need to break it apart first in order to do so. I am stuck because I would like those changes I made in Illustrator to apply to all the instances of that optimised graphic however when I optimise the artwork back to a vector graphic, its a different symbol and therefore is no longer related to those instances. Therefore, how can I edit optimised artwork so that the changes will always apply to its instances?

When you have placed your Spry menu in a Template, you must set the links in the Template and preserve the menu in an ineditable region by not making an editable region surrounding it. Don't forget to make editable regions in the rest of your page, so you can put content on the pages!
When you save a page as a Template, the Template is placed in a Templates folder, and DW keeps track of maintaining the accuracy of the links. You do not have to change the links in the Template for the child pages, DW does that for you.
When you are using a Template to create child pages, you do File > New Document > Page from Template, choose the template, check the box labeled "Update page when template changes" and press "Create".
Save the page in the appropriate place in your site files, and you should be good to go.
You can use a Template for many many pages...there is no limit, as far as I know.

Can't Add Custom Artwork for Imported Movies...

I recently made a home video and exported it to iTunes with iMovie HD. I want to add my own picture for the artwork, but whenever I try to, iTunes always freezes. When I restart iTunes, I cannot edit the artwork and I can't play the movie. Any ideas on how to fix this?

When I've added artwork to movies it takes a long time to load depending of the files size. If you wait long enough it should load. Sometimes iTunes will crash. But if you just reopen it, play your movie, the artwork should show up.
It also sounds like you broke the file. Just re-export it and add the artwork again.

Hmm, I tried a few ways and it's working here. First, it works if I have the artwork panel open below all the libraries and I can then Control-click (or right click if you have a two button mouse) in there, get a pop up menu, and select "copy". Or, second, if I pull up the "Get Info", click on the artwork tab, click on the album art (at which point it's highlighted), and then press command-C to copy it. Or, third, double click on the pictClipping file on my desktop and press command-C (or select "Edit" - "Copy" from there). If I use any of those techniques to get the artwork in my clipboard, then the "File" - "New from clipboard" option in "Preview" works for me.
It doesn't work if I pop up the artwork in it's own window (e.g. by clicking on the artwork in the optional artwork panel below the libraries), or if I neglect to click on the artwork in "Get Info" before pressing command-C.
Finally, if none of these is working, I think that "GraphicsConverter" app is shareware, so you might be able to try it for free if you want. I also picked up a free Automator workflow that does the job for free, but it's really a little clumsy and wouldn't suggest unless you're really technically oriented.
