Can't Edit New or Saved Documents?

I'm very new to Pages and have searched for an answer with no luck.
I've been trying to open saved Pages documents to edit them, but I am getting a blank white document with black thumbnails on the left. When I switch to full view, I briefly see my content but it reverts to all black and can't be edited.
I also tried creating a new Pages document and any images/text I add are not showing up.

Ah, here we go: someone with the same problem as I. I've installed OS X 10.5.8 on a Sawtooth G3 with a 1.2 GHz G4 upgrade. This was a clean install. Installed iWork '09, installed update 2. This is a hand-me-down for my wife, who has been using AppleWorks -- I'm transitioning her to Pages.
When I open her AW documents, I get what Melissa is seeing: a completely blank page. Switching to fullscreen mode, I see a flash of the content before it goes black. When I exit fullscreen mode, I see a flash of content before I get a blank page.
In addition, the thumbnails are black page icons; toggling thumbnails off doesn't hide them; and resizing the window larger causes redraw anomalies (the scroll bars and status line don't redraw properly).
I then found myself with hard drive problems, so I purchased a brand new drive and reinstalled OS X and iWork '09. There has been no change.
Turns out the fact that these are AW documents has nothing to do with it. First, such documents converted by Pages on this machine and opened on another machine open just fine (although they have a black document icon). Opened on this machine, the converted document still has the same problem.
Second (wish I'd tried this first), new Pages documents *do the exact same thing*. When I type into a blank document, my text (and the insertion point) does not show, although the status bar shows that text is being added to the doc.
I've ditched the preference file. I've done the permissions incantation. A fresh user account exhibits the same issue. There is no third-party software on this machine.
My machine meets the system requirements for iWork '09 (http://www.apple.com/iwork/systemrequirements.html) except for the video memory, which is 16MB. Since Melissa's MBP must have at least 128MB of video memory, I doubt that a lack of video memory is causing the problem.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it OK to reply to my own question?? Thanks to the related posts that appeared AFTER I'd made the post above, I learnt about the 'Manage my places' item under the Windows menu. I felt a bit dumb not knowing this.
BUT it doesn't completely resolve the issue. The info shown in the EXIF (using opt-cmd-I) under Places has the place name I choose, but it is followed by a few other lines that are incorrect and do not seem to be anything to do with any data I can see under 'Manage my places'.
Can anyone explain where these other entries might come from, and how to edit them?

Can't create new Web Intelligence document

My company is migrating server from BO 5.1.8 to BOXI R2. Migration was fine with the exception of a few issues.
FIrst, no one has the ability to create a new Web Intelligence document in InfoView, not even administrator although permissions are there for Web Intelligence under the BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications on the main screen of the CMC.
Second, when a user attempts to change the parameters for a report, by clicking on the "prompts" link, they are presented with a server error mentioning that the document cannot be opened since it was saved with "Write Reservation Password". Would this password need to be removed in BO 5.1.8 and then the migration redone or can this password be removed post migration?
I appreciate any help or advice. I have three other things I am working on and need to get these things resolved.

Can't edit new event in ical since snow loepard

I'm not realy good in english but i make my best, so sorry for bizzare contents. 2 days ago i install snow loepard on the macbook of my girlfriend and now some applications have problems. in ical we can't edit events... We c'ant create a new event but we can't change de title. The line apears block. It's weard because we can change the hour or other things, but not the title... somebody have the same problem? i look on the forum and i see nothing like this or answer for resolve the problem...

I fixed the problem. On another thread about a related iCal problem, someone thought there was a font issue causing the problem.
First, I removed iCal from the dock.
Second, I opened Macintosh HD, then opened Applications, then opened Font Book.
Third, in the Font Book window I selected All Fonts, and from the menu I selected "Select Duplicate Fonts."
Fourth, in the Font Book window, rather than just disabling the duplicate fonts, I moved all the duplicate fonts one by one to the Trash.
Fifth, I emptied the Trash and restarted the computer.
Sixth, I opened iCal from the Applications list (and selected "Keep in Dock").
Now, the iCal is working fine and I'm able to edit the event title.

Is there a way to change a person name and title after saving it as a pdf file? I heard something about creating a form in Acrobat professsional.
I need to print out a letterhead with different peoples name and title. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, if you use Acrobat Pro to save the PDF as a Reader-enabled form.
1. Create your letterhead in Illustrator (or whatever). Leave design space for, but do not create text objects that you want to be editable.
2. Save as PDF.
3. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro. Use Acrobat's Form tools to add text fields whereever you want the end users to be able to key text.
4. Select the Enable Reader Usage Rights command in Acrobat to make the form fields edtiable in Reader. Save the file.
Recipients of the PDF can now open it in Reader, edit the content of the fields, and save the file with their edits.

Can't create new AppleWorks 6 document

Where I used to create a new AW document directly from the Dock icon, now it takes me to a Finder window. But when I click on the AW 6 application, I get an "Error-#1409" message. The only way I can create a new document is to open an old one and "Save As." Can anyone help? I'm on an iMac G5 with OS 10.4.11
(And I'm more of a casual user...so no geek-speak, please.) Thanks for any info.

That you can successfully launch AppleWorks by opening an old document indicates the application itself is working, and that opening an existing document bypasses whatever is the source of the error.
What are your settings in AppleWorks > Preferences > General?
What is the icon on the Dock? AppleWorks, or an AppleWorks document?
What happens if you open an existing document (to launch AppleWorks), then close that document, then press command-N to open a New document?
Answers may provide some clues as to where the problem lies.

Can't create new Web Intelligence documents

Hello,
Only user Administrator can create new Web Intelligence documents on Infoview at my Installation. I 've created a new group called GROUP1. This group has Full Control acces level on folders, universes and conections like group Administrators. A user from group GROUP1 can't create new document Web Intellingence. Also, when I have joined this user to Administrators group, then this user was allowed to create a new Web Intellingence document.
Could anybody help me?

please check the rights for GROUP at application level.

I can't edit new contacts

any newly added contact (after updating my iPhone software) cannot be edited. Note that adding a contact only works when it is done through the Call App, not through the Contacts App!! and even then,
I can't edit the newly added contact.
If I attempt to add a new contact through the Contacts App it does not allow me to enter a phone number, and even then, when I click Done, it just saves a blank contact!!

I've asked other friends with the identical 3GS phone that have also done the update, they are NOT facing this same problem, however they updated their software on iTunes while in Ireland, and I'm in England, could some installation updates over iTunes be dodggy?

I am having this identical issue. Ever since upgrading to iOS 4 on my 3GS some users do not have the "Edit" option when I go into contact details - nor am I able to search for them in the phonebook. Yet they are in there somehow because if that person calls me their name/contact shows up. I only have 1 contacts "group" so I'm not sure what is going on.

Can't edit text in Pages document

Many times I have opened a Pages Word Proessing document that serves as a brochure. Today I went in to edit some of the text and I can't get a cursor to drop anywhere in the text. All the text boxes can't be edited.
What may have happened? I am using Pages '09

Here's the explanation. When I transferred the document to Pages, I did a copy and paste of the text boxes and graphics. What I didn't understand was that, after they were in Pages, they would no longer need to be edited.
I have been printing the brochure from the Pages document for months. It wasn't until now that I needed to edit it. It came as a surprise to discover that in copying and pasting text boxes between these two applications, I lost the ability to edit them.
I have now selected the text from the original document and created a new text box in Pages and pasted the text into it. It can now be edited further if necessary.
Thanks for discovering where my error was.
The original brochure was created as an Appleworks Draw document and cannot be opened in Pages. Before I upgrade my iMac from OS 10.6.8 to Maverick, I need to make sure that I have created fresh Pages documents whenever I used a Draw document in Appleworks.

Can't edit "New Event" when creating new event

When I try to create a New Event, I can't change the name of it from New Event. So now all my newer calendar entries are called "New Event."
How do I fix this?

Now I have to edit the name of the events direct on MobileMe on line and wait for sync to have it on my computer. Unbelievable!!
By the way, all my calendars have migrated to On-Line Calendars mode but, it seems like on these mode it is not possible to create Calendar Groups so all of them are together now. Unbelievable again!!
I'm wondering if this Ical issue could be related to font issues.
I'm also experiencing some kind of font problems since upgrade to snow leopard.
I had some font conflict issues during system installation.
On first installation I have optioned for deleting conflict fonts.
Then my menus were just erased.
Then, on the second installation, I have optioned to just accept the conflicts.
Now I have the menus back but other issues have been created.
Now the window requesting user and password comes only with the empty boxes but no text at all.
It's still working but just because I already know what to type in the boxes.

Can an editable form be saved so it cant be edited again with Adobe Reader?

Im creating PDF forms for someone. They are using Adobe Reader to fill out the form fields on the PDF. They will be sending it off to others after. What I want to know is with Reader, is there a way that after they fill out the information, they can save it so it cant be re-edited or anything?

You would have to set up a button, bookmark, or something else that when triggered runs a script that sets the fields to read-only. You will have to set this up in Acrobat before you Reader-enable the document and distribute it.
Here's some code that sets a single field to read-only:
getField("Text1").readonly = true;

Now go command a (Select All)
What do you see?
Do you see any boxes around your objects with light crosses on the corners? They are locked.
click on them > Menu > Arrange > Unlock
The other possibility is you have moved the objects to the Section Master:
Menu > Arrange > Section Master > Make Master Objects Selectable
Or if you click on the text area and then see small white boxes on the corners and a group of objects moves together
Menu > Arrange > Ungroup
You have shown me only the poster, out of context and without any of the surrounding format options, so it is hard to tell anything about it. Even whether you are in Pages. It could even be a pdf file.

I have a document library in Sharepoint 2010 where users may upload documents.
The goal is that users may see the documents but not edit them.
How can i get the doc library so that users may upload documents, but can't edit any of the documents?
Is there a way out of the box?
