Can't edit object properties (Acrobat X, Acrobat 8.x)

I'm trying to tag a PDF for accessibility. I would like to be able to tag the images in the document as 'background'.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to edit any of the object properties for images.
Here's what I do:
Expose the Content tools.
Click Edit Object.
Click to select an image.
Right-click and select Properties.
At this point, a multi-tab dialog pops up, in which all fields are disabled.
I thought to work around the problem by going back to Acrobat 8.x, but I'm seeing the same behavior there.
What step am I missing, here?

These are the steps I've been told to use to edit the tags on an image:
Open the Content section in Tools.
Click 'Edit Object'.
Right-click image and select 'Properties'.
Change to Tags tab.
Set tag to 'Artifact.'
These steps are impossible to complete, because all fields in the Properties (a.k.a. "TouchUp properties" [sic]) dialog are disabled.
If in fact this has "nothing to do with tagging an image", then I shouldn't even be able to access the dialog, much less be able to access it and discover that all settings it exposes are disabled.
In fact, every means that I've found so far that gives me access to the "TouchUp proerties" dialog for an image or a path, gives it to me with all fields except color disabled. (Please note: this is not just paths, it's also images. Even if it were just paths, that would be a serious problem, since any brochure or magazine layout is liable to contain a huge number of paths that need to be tagged as background images.)
The ONLY ways so far that I've found that it's possible to edit the tags on an image are:
Use 'Find...' as described above to bring the image/path/etc. into the reading order, and then use the TouchUp Reading Order dialog or right-click in the Reading Order pane to set it as background. This is inexact and time-consuming, especially for things like graphic-intensive brochures or magazine layouts.
Use a marquee-selection in the TouchUp Reading Order tool to select objects and set them as background. This is inadequate because in many of the cases that I deal with, you'll still be left with a lot of objects you can't select in this manner. (Try using this method to select an image that has the same vertical or horizontal dimension as the page it resides on, for example.)
If you are aware of another way, I wisth you'd tell me what it is.
It sounds to me like you're thinking I'm using the Select Object tool. I'm not. It's pretty obvious that's not going to work, because it doesn't even afford access to the "TouchUp properties" dialog.

  • Can not edit roles properties

    Dear All,
I found the solution but for the moment I don't know if it is a bug or not.
In my user if the flag "Activate Accessibility Feature" is set on, I can't edit the properties of all objects (except IViews). The button properties and Edit are greyed.
If I set of the flag, the button are available and I can change all the object.
    Have a nice day.

    Hi,
If some functionality is missing or reported by many users, then you can call it a bug. but this seems to be only for your user. It works for other users of the same portal. So this can't be a bug but would have happened due to some unwanted or unknown actions in portal. SAP Portal is very sensitive as far as I understood. Any wrong configuration or wrong deployment can easily bring a server down. So we have to make sure we are doing right things to the most extent. For your question, you can delete your user, recreate it and check. hope that will work.

  • Can't edit form after upgrade to Acrobat XI

I am using Adobe Acrobat XI through Adobe Creative Cloud and was going to edit a form that I had made and I get this message:
"This form cannot be edited in Acrobat.  Please use Adobe LiveCycle Design to edit this form."
Does anyone have experience with this problem.
I just edited form in Acrobat about two weeks ago and then it was no problem.

Thanks George, this is a document that I made in 2012.  I have figured out that I did password protect it and also did use an certificate.  So I am going to look in my backups and find the original file before I locked it.
I was only saying that I had edited another form in the Acrobat XI, not this one.
    Thank you for your answer.

  • Can't edit objects on the stage

    Hi,
I'm stumped helping my colleague on the issue below so I'm logging this question.
Issue: My colleague is trying to edit a slide but can't edit any of the objects on the stage. However, it works fine when I open the same project on my machine. Is there a setting on her machine that's causing the issue?
In the screenshot below, check out Slide 2 (selected) notice how:
in the thumbnail there are multiple objects (white image on the left, blue text caption in the center) on the slide.
in the timeline multiple objects are available and selectable. All are set to be visible (the little "eye" isn't switched to off).
when you look at the stage, the only things that we see are the background and a single button.
The objects also appear fine in Preview.
On the stage, can "phatomly" select objects, but she can't change the characteristics of them (e.g., change text in a text caption, resize object, move object).
    Screenshot:
    OS: Windows 7
    Captivate: v5.5 (running as Administrator)
    Background info:
This project was initially created in an older Captivate version (4.0 or 5.0) and is now being edited/updated.
Last week, my colleague was trying to edit the same project (using v5.0). When she clicked play on the timeline, her audio wouldn't play. When she watched the Preview or tried to edit the audio, the audio would play just fine. Also, on my machine (running v5.5) it worked fine. This prompted me to suggest that she update to v5.5. Alas, it seems this fixed the audio issue, only to create this video issue.
    Thanks,
    - Dino

    Here's a bigger/better quality image. I hope it helps.
Notice how the Text Caption is selected in the timeline and it's properties are visible on the right. Yet the item itself is nowhere to be seen on the stage. Also, now it seems to have disappeared from the thumbnail.

  • Can you edit file properties using Labview?

Except for the file attributes like 'read-only' and 'hidden', Windows 2000 & XP also have file properties like 'keywords', 'comments' and 'description'.
Is there any way that I can edit these properties in Labview?

    RichElswick wrote:
nope, we never got that far and I am no longer on that project.
And it would be a bitch to implement. Basically those properties are implement using propertysheet handlers. That are shell extensions that can be installed in Windows and in the registry added to one or more file types. On loading the property dialog the shell (basically only an Explorer thing) sees that for that specific file type there are property sheet handlers registered and then loads them as an extra property sheet into the dialog.
There is no common API to retrieve and lets forget about changing the information those property sheet handlers deal with programmatically. And every property sheet handler retrieves the actual properties according to his own private information, such as image properties in JPG files but possible also extra information in the meta data of a file on advanced files systems such as NTFS (the security property sheet for instance).
So you would have to create a Windows dialog, load the according property sheet handlers into it and then have the user deal with that interactively. I doubt that this is what you want.

At this stage we really only support read only for Java code. So you can load it and read it. While we do not plan to become a full blown Java Editing tool, we do plan to add more support here.

  • How can I edit my PDF file on cloud?

I cannot figure out how can I edit my PDF file on Acrobat Pro cloud version.

    Hi abulr60330783,
I've checked your account, and couldn't see what version of Acrobat that you have. You may be referring to the Acrobat DC which Adobe announced this week, but that isn't available just yet.
So, for the time being, you'll need to use Acrobat Pro XI or earlier to edit PDF files. You can download a 30-day trial from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Can't Edit Video Property Tags - e.g. .avi, .mpg, etc

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and I wanted to organize my videos by adding tags such as title, genre, etc.
I have read other posts on this and nothing has been helpful. It seems that the moderators keep making the same suggestion to go to Properties>Details, but once they are told
it doesn't work, they do not respond again.
I have tried right clicking on a video and going to Properties> Details and while I can see any information that is there, it is not editable.
I have tried editing it through Windows Media Player. I can edit it there, but when I try to update the file by going to Organize> Apply Media Information Changes (as suggested
in these forums) the files still do not update (i.e. if I go to properties>details, I will not see the information updated there).
I can edit the sample video (.wmv) but as I said I cannot edit properties of my own videos (.avi, .mpg). I have windows 7 at work as well and I seem to be able to edit the properties
of a couple of M4V and Quicktime Movie Files, can’t find any .avi files to test.
I am getting really frustrated with this issue. It seems like it should be an extremely simple thing, and yet it doesn't work. I don't understand why it works for some video files
    and not others.
Are there specific video file formats for which you can't edit the properties?
Is there a way these files could have become "locked"? We have tried to make sure that we have full permissions set, and it appears that we do, but are there particular permissions
    we could be missing?
The files in question are stored on an External Drive and accessed through the Video Library in Windows Explorer, although copying them to any other location doesn't make the properties
    editable.
The only way I have been able to edit these properties and see the changes in window explorer (see them by going back to properties>details) is by using a 3rd party program called
abcavi but while it works sometimes, it corrupts the files other times, so it's not a good solution.
Basically, I know HOW it's supposed to work, but it DOESN'T, so please give me some advice on how to make it work or explain why it doesn't. This is VERY frustrating.

Windows Explorer and WMP probably don't write tags to files in AVI and MPEG format, because these formats don't properly support tagging. I think that it's advisable to instead use new formats, that have proper tagging support, like WMV or MPEG-4.
To edit the tags of AVI and MPEG files,
you could also give ExifTool a try. ExifTool is a command-line application, but you can download
ExifTool GUI to get a nice interface. I haven't tried these programs myself, but it looks like they will do the job.

    I found the answer:
Write in your own .css file:
    "af|menuPath::separator-icon {content:" > ";}"
and breadcrumb will get this value

No the "MyFolder" is not in the root. Normally if we give the file name alone, it will store in a directory. Instead of storing in that directory, i want to have create another subfolder under that directory and storing the file in it. This is my need.
    OS: Windows 2000.

    log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG,myproj

I gave relative path like this and got the file not found error.
    log4j.appender.myproj.File=/MyFolder/error_file.log

  • How can I save an image in a pdf that can not be removed using 'Edit Object' feature in Acrobat X?

I have a pdf that has an image of a seal contained it it. I'd like to send the document out to other people but don't want them to be able to remove the seal using the 'Edit Object' feature under 'Tools' in Adobe Acrobat X. Can someone tell me how to do this please? Thanks in advance!

Apply a security policy that prevents editing. This is not a 100%
fool-proof protection, though, but it will work in Acrobat.

  • I can't edit text on a pdf file in adobe acrobat

I need to edit the text on the pdf file but I can't and this message keeps showing up: " This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form.
There are no security on this file. The only thing that is not allowed is to create templates. When I check the document properties description, on the PDF producer it says adobe distiller 7.0.5 (windows)
I downloaded the adobe livecycle designer but I couldn't edit the text there either... When I open the file it says the text is not downloaded so it replaced it with another text, I clicked ok but then the text didn't change, This message showed up:
I really need to edit the text on this pdf file because it's important. Can anyone help? Greatly appreciate it. By the way, this is a pdf fillable form that you can fill out on acrobat and that is the only thing it seems like it will let me do this file. I don't want to fill it out, I want to edit whats on it. It's one of those forms that you get from NJ courts.

Ok, what we can tell you is that if this is a LiveCycle form (and we can be pretty sure it is), that you are absolutely right. Acrobat can fill it, and nothing else. These are a very special kind of PDF, where all the text is in a special XML format that Acrobat can only show, not edit.
So, you are on the right track: if it can be edited, you need LiveCycle Designer. Unfortunately, we don't know much about it in this forum, so please try posting here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle/livecycle_modules_and_development_tools/livecy cle_designer_es
If the form is publicly available, it may help if you include the URL (web address) when you post.

  • Is there an "Edit Object Tool" in Acrobat 11?

Is there an "Edit Object Tool" in Acrobat 11 that is comparable to the Edit Object Tool in Acrobat 10 and earlier versions?  Has it been discontinued, or split into 2 loosely connected tools, the new Edit Text and Images Tool?
I love the new Edit Text Tool in Acrobat 11, but the old Edit Object Tool in Acrobat 10 and earlier versions was great when I wanted to resize a block of objects.  The old Edit Object Tool would resize both text and graphic objects, but not everything like form fields, although there are limited workarounds like printing the file to pdf to flatten it and then resizing, but doing so will discard the form fields.
When using the old Edit Object Tool to resize a group of objects that contain text, it will scale the text in proportion to everything else in the selection.  The new Edit Text and Images Tool in Acrobat 11 does not resize or scale the text.  It does change the size of the text containers, but the text does not resize.
There are situations where it is valuable to resize a group of objects that contain both text and images, but I can't get the new tool to do it, or I'm not operating the tool correctly.  Is this functionality gone in version 11, or am I doing something wrong or using the wrong tool?
I initially upgraded both of my laptop workstations from Acrobat 10 to 11, but have now gone back to running Acrobat 10 on one machine and Acrobat 11 on the other so I can realize the great new functionality of the new Acrobat 11 Text Tools without losing the valuable functionality of the Edit Object Tool in earlier versions.
I posted a 5 star positive review on Amazon at:
    http://www.amazon.com/review/R3GAQNISK3WR4S/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R3GAQNISK3WR4S
but I might have to drop it to 4 stars if the old functionality has been discarded
Clarification or guidance would be appreciated.

Dave, Thank you for the accurate and effective information.  I added the icon to my toolbar.
