Can't edit project aspect snapshot

When I select project>snapshots in the inspector I can create and delete snapshots with no problem. However I can not edit any existing snapshots when ever there is more than one snapshot existing (edit button obviously dimmed if only one snapshot exists). Selecting a snapshot to edit and clicking the edit button brings up a window with a button labeled 'Stop Rig edit mode'. I trashed Motion prefs but no change. Is this me only or a known issue?

I find that floating rig edit mode button a major annoyance, so much so that I personally try to avoid having to deal with snapshots: for the past few years, I've only dealt with 16:9 (HD or anamorphic SD) and I don't have an iPhone/iPod Touch... I have no real use for alternate snapshots. Quite frankly, I don't even know why 3:2 aspect is one of the options. As far as I can tell, there is no 3:2 aspect project available in FCPX (maybe that's something coming up in the next release? Or I'm missing something?) I know 4:3 isn't obsolete—there are 4:3 variants in 2K and 4K, so it will outlive SD. I've done a couple of projects with snapshots...back after M5 was first released; and honestly, I had completely blocked that floating button thing out of my memory! All I can say is: if somebody wants a 4:3 variation for a template I developed, they're going to have to make it worth my while (probably not anything I'll ever have to worry about ).
Glad you were able to figure it out! Sorry I missed the specific point (blocked memory and all...) I know way too many ways to blow up a Motion project, and the mere mention of a Rig? I see red flags everywhere. And you're right: that button is entirely misleading. What it probably means is there is an underlying Project (master) Rig that is inherent in every project (a "base" Rig object, if you're familiar with object-oriented programming), that we don't have access to, used to record all parameters. The Rigs *we* get to create are just "child objects" used to override selected parameters within the master rig. And that could very well explain why deleting a rig object/widget without removing parameters will keep those parameters tied up as if they were still connected to a rig, even one that apparently doesn't exist anymore. Adding parameters to a user created rig creates a "road" into the master rig, and trashing that user created rig with connections intact is like blowing up a bridge that connects the two points: the road is still there, but there's no longer any connection (and if you've gone past the ability to Undo... there's no way to repair that bridge either.) [I could be wrong... it's the way I would have designed it if I had written the app... except in my version: deleting a child rig would automatically disconnect all connections from the user to the master object *before* the child Rig was "garbage collected." There's really no excuse for that bug...]

  • Can't Edit Project From Another Mac

I'm trying to finish an iMovie project that I started in iMovie '05 on my PowerBook G4, but that computer is too full to run iMovie properly and so instead of taking the time to clean that computer, I decided to use my girlfriend's new MacBook to do the job on a better processor. Unfortunately, when I started to try and add transitions, it doesn't let me adjust the duration of the photo, since the photo library the project was created from cannot be found on this computer. If I don't adjust the times, then the transitions will just cut down the display times of all of my photos that I add them to. Does anyone have any advice in this situation or any workarounds that I could try? Thanks!

Not having done the procedure that you are doing, I can only speculate.
In a test project, I imported a photo into iMovie from my iPhoto library. Then I deleted that photo from my iPhoto library and emptied the trash. I was still able to change the duration of the photo in iMovie by using the Show Photo Settings box, even though the photo was no longer in my iPhoto library. (But I could not adjust the duration by control clicking on the photo and going into the Show Info box.) The above leads me to believe that your problem is not related to your photo having been created in the library of another computer. The photo would still be in your iMovie media file that you brought with you when transferring the project, and that's all that should be required for iMovie to edit it.
I think that your problem may be that the version of iMovie running on your girlfriend's computer is incompatible with iMovie5 that you used to create your project. Is she running iLife 08 and iMovie 6.0.4? Or exactly what? It it's iM6.0.3, you should be getting a little dialogue box that asks if you want to update your old version.
Or, it may be that the iMovie version on your girlfriend's computer is not working properly. You might consider shutting down iMovie and trashing the com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in User/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new .plist file on relaunch. Then do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app.
I am not running iLife 08, if that's what your girlfriend is running, so don't know if the above will work. It is a procedure that is commonly used when running iMovie 6.0.3. But use at your own risk.
Perhaps others on this forum will weigh in with other suggestions.
    Good luck with this.

  • How Can I Edit a Gantt?

We have a "Project Details" PDP and I believe our "Project Portfolio" gantt view on our home page is based off of that.   In SharePoint, I can edit a gantt.  But, I cannot seem to edit the gantt inside Project Portfolio (receive
an error message that it cannot be edited).  I opened the gantt view settings and I did not see anything about "read only", etc.
We have about 100 projects (simple metadata for them like #, name, start date, stop date, etc.) that we'd like to add to the gantt, but I do not want to have to add one project at a time via  Projects tab > New > Enterprise Project.
I'm obviously VERY new to Project Server...but there just has to be a way to copy/paste a list of gantt contents from Excel to Project Server, right?!  If we can do it today in SharePoint, surly it can be done in Server.
    Your help is most appreciated!

    Hello,
Not that much clear :) but let me try to give you some hints:
You cannot edit schedule directly from the project center page (what you call your home page)
Project schedule can be edited project by project on each project site, using the PDP called: schedule
Projects need to be checked out before edit and checked in when done, a checked out file cannot be edited by other persons
You need to be member of the project to be able to edit it, exception to the server admin who can do almost everything.
You might check some of those info, please send update if this does not help you, and give more details

  • Imported iCal files - can't edit

    Hello
My MBP is running Mountain Lion, and if I export an event from my Facebook to iCal I can't edit any aspect of it. I can accept or reject an invite, but that's as  far as it goes. It also happens if my flying school emails me an iCal thingy, so it must be something to do with the import process.
I'm using my Gmail calender, synced between the Mac and my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1) and I can't edit or delete on there either.
    Any help?
    Thanks

I went to the index file and found most of the stuff there. How to I open all my previous work back in iWEB so I can edit the site???
iWeb stores its files in a "domain" file. The file is located in your user Library -> Application Support -> iWeb Folder.
Unless it has been moved or deleted, it should still be there. Double click it and see if it launches with your data.
If it's been moved somewhere, you'd need to find it.
However, if the domain file you were using has been deleted and not backed up somewhere, you would need to start from scratch.
    Good luck!

  • Can you edit an archived project?!?

I have a wedding project archived through iDVD08. I want to replace one song in the Reception of the movie. I do not have my original iMovie files anymore due to file size and hard drive limitations.
Does anyone know if I can re-edit my archived project?
    Thanks to all!
    Greg

OK... the Archive is a package. Control-click on it and select 'Show Package Contents'. Then the path is Contents>Resources>Assets>av Your movie clips will be in the av directory. COPY the movies you want and paste them in a new location. DO NOT simply drag them out of the package!!!!!!!

  • How can I send an Imovie project so that person can also edit the video?

I'm trying to send a video to someone but they need to edit the video further. Is there any way I can send the imovie project so they can further edit it?

  • I can't edit my Project in iMovie 11-Gray Screen

I completed importing all the clips into the PROJECT window from the EVENTS window that I needed.  Everything was working well until I imported a song from iTunes.  I tried ducking the song during a portion of a clip in the PROJECT window then all he(( broke loose.  It would not duck so I decided to delete the song from the PROJECT window.  It won't allow me to delete the song.  Now I can't edit the project.  I tried to rename the project and it allowed me in the PROJECT but has a gray viewing screen.  I still have sound in the clips but nothing but gray in the viewing area. If I close the project and close iMovie11 and then reopen iMovie 11 it will not allow me to Edit the Project.  If I change the name again it will allow me into edit but it will not allow me to edit and of course I still have the lovely gray viewing screen.
Coaches at eleven (11) Division 1 universities are wanting this Recruiting Highlight Video of my son playing soccer and they want it in the next week or so.  I MUST get this thing finished. A scholarship maybe riding on this video or at least a second look at him in person.
    Can ANYONE help?  PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I'm using iMovie 11 9.0.4 (1634)
    Keith

I had the same problem and did all of the suggestions such as deleted certain files (com.apple.imove....and com.apple.iapps....) from the preferences folder...didn't really help my situation so I decided to view "rejected only" clips and saw that a clip that was in my project was in the list.  So I deleted the clip and everything is working fine.  You will just have to import that clip again.
    Hope that helps...

  • I can not get projects to open so that I can edit

    Hi,
I bought my new Macbook Air this month, and started to use the iMovie last week,

and when I quit iMovie and reopen it, I can't edit it anymore!!
The button edit project is no longer in white text.
My storage still have about 80GB free, so I think it is not about the storage problem(?)
I have searched a lot, but still can't come up with a solution.
Please help, I have to hand in my movie before this semester ends.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Can my imovie project be edited by someone else if I want them to?

I don't see any way to share an editable project with someone else.
Is this a deliberate structure Apple set up?
I'd like to be able to pass my file over to someone else to
work on technical stuff while I concentrate on content.
    How can I do that?
This application doesn't seem to have any means of
exporting a collect of all the elements off my root directory.
    thanks,

    yepp, it is..
'til vers 6 of iMovie, all content/elements as clips, music, narration, titles, were stored in some single 'solid' package file, you could easiely transfer onto other Macs..
since vers7 (aka iM08), Project and Events/'Clips' are located on diff. directories.. when copying those files, usually, the 'connection' between Project discription and related clips gets lost.
iM as any other iLife app isn't meant for 'multi user' usage..

  • IMovie 11 - can't edit an existing project

Mac mini, OS X 10.7.5, editing in iMovie 11
Two open projects, one completed, one in process. When I opened iMovie today the following occurred -
Project in process "edit project" button not highlighted, neither project will play in viewer, clips from completed project will play in viewer with sound, clips from project in process have no sound.
Tried repair disk permissions in disk utility but no change, have 97 GB avail on 500GB drive, can't figure out what happened - no recent power surges/outages, everything working normally yesterday.

Answered my own question - I had just imported 2 videos to add to the project in process before I shut down yesterday. After trying a bunch of other fixes, I deleted both those videos and everything is working again. Probably maxed out memory or space or something with the extra data so I will be careful to only add small clips to this project from now on.

I doubt this can be relocated or moved so you might want to just repost in the macbook pro area.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:

  • Can't open project after upgrade

    Hi
After upgrading from iMovie 9 to iMovie 11, i have a project that i can't open any more. When i choose it in the project library the preview window freezes and the "edit project" button fades out so that I can't open it.
Any one else got the same problem or know how to fix it.

  • Can't open project on External Harddrive

I'm using iMovie 5.0.2 and working on a project that is saved on an external hard drive.
After 6 hours of editing, the power cord came out of the hard drive. I connected everything and tried to save the project. I then got scared and stopped the saving. Now I can't open the project. I can't save it to another part of the hard drive and open it. Every time I try to open the movie it says :
    A project file is missing.
The file "_" couldn't be opened
and is being skipped. Click Ignore All
to skip any remaining missing file messages.
The iMovie quits. If I can find the files- all won't be lost. Plus, I have a high res quicktime file saved of the raw footage. But, I would like NOT to lose that 6 hours of work.
Can I open this file? Did I mess it up? Where are the video clips saved? I can't find them. I have iMovie on my laptop and the project saved on the hard drive.
Thanks for any help. This is why I'm so done with video Just a few more projects to do. After 15 years this type of crap drives me crazy.
    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't do anything more with your iMovie. Don't try another save, as that can write over your last good saves. You MAY be able to retrieve the prior save. Hopefully, you saved as you went along during these 6 hours so you can retrieve a very recent saved version.
(These types of accidents have made me realize the importance of backing up my movies-in-progress as I am editing them. I did not do this in the past, and now I try to do it at least at the end of each editing session so that not all would be lost. I had an external drive fail suddenly and all of my movies were gone. Fortunately, I was able to reimport the original footage, but frequent saves would have been best).
In iM6, you can access the project files by control or right-clicking on the star icon and selecting 'show package contents' to let you see the movie files. One or more of the icons will have a tilde ~ or several of them. Those are prior versions of the iMovie, and can be used to get back to a prior save.
In iM5, I think you can just directly open the project files and see the movie files as ~ files with the name as "yourmovie.mov" It might be in a Cache folder and might be called "Timeline Movie.mov." If you don't see anything like a Cache folder, try doing the process for iM6 above. If you see multiple .mov files with ~ and then more ~~ or even ~~~ those are more versions. You may have to try one or more of these to find the latest one possible.
Once you locate the .mov version of your movie, open a new iMovie project and drop in one of the .mov~ movies into it and see if it works. If so, continue editing with this one. This version will be all in one clip, so more editing is a bit more difficult, but not impossible and at least you will have some of your work back.
It's crucial you NOT save the messed-up project right now, for that will destroy the good QuickTime movie, replacing it with a bad "empty" movie.
(Thanks to Karl Peterson for the info re: retrieving prior saved movies).
    Good luck!
