Can't edit video information in iTunes

Title says it all .... The file is NOT locked however it doesn't say I am the owner of it which is puzzling. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Can't edit track information in iTunes

I imported an audiobook CD into iTunes and then tried to edit it by changing "Music" to "Audiobook" under "options". But that option (and everything else) is greyed out so that the audiobooks are stuck in my music library. It doesn't seem to be a permissions issue - I opened Disk utlities and repaired permissions. I also opened the actual files in Finder and I already have permission to "read and write" - neither of these options worked. Any ideas?

I have been unable to change the media kind of items in my Music library until I go to the Store menu and turn off iTunes Match.  Movies, books, tv shows are not affected.  When finished editing, I turn on iTunes Match.  It takes about 5 minutes to match my 6000+ library again

  • Can't edit song information in ITunes library

I've imported a CD as MP3's and am unable to edit the track information. When I right click a song and open "Get Info" the song information is visible but not editable. This is the first time something like this has happened and I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Since you say this is the first time it has happened, I assume you are going to the "Info" tab and not the "Summary" tab in the "Get Info" window? (That has confused me at times.)

  • I can't edit song information the problem is not in all the items

I can't edit the information of my songs like gnre, artist, etc... when I start to use itunes I had another computer, when I change of computer I decide to copy my library to a external hard disk, I don't know if this is creating the problem, will be great to receive help.

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows Vista/7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges.

A new calendar showed up on my phone and I can't edit the information. Where did it come from

Are you using a Gmail account? If so, are you syncing your Google calendars? Did you recently subscribe to a new calendar? I have a couple of calendars (moon phases, U.S. Holidays) that I subscribe to through Google Calendar. They are not editable.

  • Can't drag files or edit file information in iTunes.

I just bought a new computer a month ago, and when I downloaded iTunes on it, it worked perfectly fine. Recently, it hasn't been allowing me to drag files anywhere. Not at all. I also can't edit song info because it's all greyed out. I really need help because I want to put more songs on my iPhone and edit playlists on my iPhone and it won't let me even add a playlist on my iPhone. I have complete control over all files on my hardrive. I haven't moved any songs that I imported into iTunes. I really don't know what to do, and it's really frustrating. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Does the DVD-R have a very long name? If so, see:
*Unable to copy or move files from volume that has a long name*
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2053
If this seems to be the problem you'd probably have to try burning a new DVD with a shorter name, since you can't rename the present DVD.

  • Can't Edit Video Property Tags - e.g. .avi, .mpg, etc

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and I wanted to organize my videos by adding tags such as title, genre, etc.
I have read other posts on this and nothing has been helpful. It seems that the moderators keep making the same suggestion to go to Properties>Details, but once they are told
it doesn't work, they do not respond again.
I have tried right clicking on a video and going to Properties> Details and while I can see any information that is there, it is not editable.
I have tried editing it through Windows Media Player. I can edit it there, but when I try to update the file by going to Organize> Apply Media Information Changes (as suggested
in these forums) the files still do not update (i.e. if I go to properties>details, I will not see the information updated there).
I can edit the sample video (.wmv) but as I said I cannot edit properties of my own videos (.avi, .mpg). I have windows 7 at work as well and I seem to be able to edit the properties
of a couple of M4V and Quicktime Movie Files, can’t find any .avi files to test.
I am getting really frustrated with this issue. It seems like it should be an extremely simple thing, and yet it doesn't work. I don't understand why it works for some video files
    and not others.
Are there specific video file formats for which you can't edit the properties?
Is there a way these files could have become "locked"? We have tried to make sure that we have full permissions set, and it appears that we do, but are there particular permissions
    we could be missing?
The files in question are stored on an External Drive and accessed through the Video Library in Windows Explorer, although copying them to any other location doesn't make the properties
    editable.
The only way I have been able to edit these properties and see the changes in window explorer (see them by going back to properties>details) is by using a 3rd party program called
abcavi but while it works sometimes, it corrupts the files other times, so it's not a good solution.
Basically, I know HOW it's supposed to work, but it DOESN'T, so please give me some advice on how to make it work or explain why it doesn't. This is VERY frustrating.

Windows Explorer and WMP probably don't write tags to files in AVI and MPEG format, because these formats don't properly support tagging. I think that it's advisable to instead use new formats, that have proper tagging support, like WMV or MPEG-4.
To edit the tags of AVI and MPEG files,
you could also give ExifTool a try. ExifTool is a command-line application, but you can download
ExifTool GUI to get a nice interface. I haven't tried these programs myself, but it looks like they will do the job.

  • Can't edit tracks after transferring iTunes library.

    Hi,
I've just bought a new MacBook Pro, and wanted to transfer all of my music and photos to it from my current iMac. I went about this by copying the "iTunes Music" folder in the "Music" section of my user, along with the extra files like "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Library Extra". I did this over a wireless network and it took an age since my library is about 35GB.
I put the folders and files in the same place they were on my iMac on my MacBook Pro. I booted up iTunes and it worked fine, my library looks exactly the same as it did on my iMac. However, I can't edit any of the track information or even add new album art to existing tracks. I thought I might need to change the permissions of the new tracks as they said 'Read only'. But after changing a few to 'Read & Write' (a long process), there has been no change.
Can anybody offer any insight into this problem? My iTunes Library is very important to me!!
    Thanks.

Every file in the massive "iTunes Music" folder was set to 'Read only'. I went and changed a few to 'Read & Write', but when I found those songs in the library, they still couldn't be edited. To go through the entire folder and change each file to 'Read & Write' will take forever! And I'm not convinced that will fix the problem since it hasn't worked for individual tracks.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Can't edit Media Kind in iTunes 9?

After updating to iTunes 9 I have found that I can't edit the "media kind" label on any of my tracks. This is particularly annoying as I use audiobooks a lot, and now I have to store them as music. In fact, it seems that I can't edit anything under Options at all, such as "skip when shuffling" etc. Any ideas? I have never had a problem with this before and any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Just a couple of general points that may help in future.
Unless a file has the Podcast flag set, audio files imported into iTunes will be treated as Music (apart from m4b audiobooks) and video files as Movies. You need to manually change the Media Kind after import.
As well as "Media Kind" there is another property inside iTunes called "Video Kind" which indicates if a file is a Movie, TV Show or Music Video. Current builds of iTunes *do not* alter this value in tandem with a change in Media Kind. This could potentially cause problems with smart playlists and perhaps even remote access to the library. The Video Kind property can be set from script.
Given that Media Kind is an internal property of the iTunes database there is no good reason that it can't be applied to any file whether locked or not, but I suspect iTunes first checks for write permissions before making changes so permissions may be an issue whenever you are unable to change the Media Kind.
Unless your selected audiobook files are all in .m4b format iTunes will report any selection of two or more audiobook files as being Music. Ignore it. It can't handle mixed property values either, e.g. a mix of compilation and non-compilation tracks will always show as *Part of a compilation: No.*
When working with single audiobook files you cannot change the status of the *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling* flags. Simply select more than one file to adjust.

  • Can't edit song info in iTunes 8

I just updated to iTunes 8. Everything was working fine in iTunes 7. Now, I can't edit some songs in my library. When I select 'Get Info', the information is grayed-out and not available for edit. Some songs that I recently added to my library using iTunes 7 can be edited, as well as songs that I added to the library in iTunes 8. I was thinking of trying to uninstall iTunes 8 and then re-install, but I didn't want to waste time if this was a known problem. I have fully administrator rights on my computer and I did not move the library location for the upgrade to version 8.

    My 'gat info problem: I
    Since updating to version 8:
right click to 'get info' on single file is fine.
But if I try to right click on a selection of files, I get a blank grey window, and a sort of weird truncated layout of SOME of the options normally available in those tabs down the right-hand corner of the big grey box. and they appear to be moving out of the frame of the window so some of them are only half visible. You can't get to them. Also if you move your mouse over it, I get a sort of "floating" OK button, - the only way to get out of the thing. Seems to be a serious graphical mess there. (hard to describe-I wish I could attach image file)
Anybody else out there have anything like this?
    Geoffrey in Melbourne Australia
PS: Just a thought: not sure if this is OK with Forum rules, (my apologies if it aint) but here is a link to images of the problem:

  • Help - I can't edit my music in iTunes!

In the whole of my iTunes library I can't edit my music, podcasts, videos etc.
I select any item and click 'CTRL + I' and all the details on the tab in the box that comes up are locked for editing (Everything is grey in colour rather than black and nothing can be selected).
This has just recently happened as I could edit before, I have checked my settings but can't see anything wrong.
Strangely though an album and a couple of podcasts that have just been downloaded but not played can be edited.
If anyone can help I would be so grateful.

If you want help with iTunes for Windows, maybe you should post there for more specific help.

  • I can't get video purchased from iTunes to play on iTunes

So, I upgraded to iTunes 6 and I installed the upgrade Quicktime 7.0.3 that came with the upgraded iTunes. I have all the current XP Pro updates installed, I have all the memory, videocards, etc etc that are in the system requirements for iTunes 6.
I go to the music store to see how this new and snazzy video purchasing works and I bought a music video of a band I like. iTunes Music Store takes my money, iTunes downloads the video and it's in my library. Cool.
I then select the video and a picture shows up in the bottom left hand corner and I click play and sit back to enjoy this new feature.
Nothing happens. nada, zip, zero. It just doesn't play. New sound, no video, nothing. I try it again. I go to the help menu the only thing they say about problems is to give me a link to a systems requirement list.
I open up Quicktime since the help file also says I can play my purchased video on either iTunes or Quicktime. I try to open the file and I get:
    Error - 36: an I/O error occured
I check everything I can think of and still nothing.
I drop iTunes Support and they send me an email back 4 days later that says, sorry, we can't help with technical problems so deal with it (but I can't find a single article about this problem on the website) or call our help line and probably pay a fee.
I'm at a real loss as to what to do. I bought this video (granted it was only a couple of dollars, but still) and can't play it. Do any of the wonderful people out there have any ideas? I'm just glad I didn't buy more than this one video.
Thanks so very much in advance,
    Shalva del Castillo

I know exactly how you feel. I bought a video and haven't been able to watch it either. Imagine all the "couple of bucks" here and there that Apple gets to keep.
Especially when they is no one here to answer questions and we need to trackdown someone. The FAQ's are useless, like every other companies FAQ. Nothing has anything to do with real problems.
