Can't eject leopard disk

So my intel imac died during the middle of an install. I need to get the disk out. WHen I reboot, I have tried:
- holding down eject on keyboard. nope, insists on booting from CD.
- holding down option to get a list of boot options. Nope.
- holding down the mouse button. nope.
How can I get that disk out of there?

To eject a disc using firmware:
Restart the computer.
When you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Command-Option-O-F keys. (The Command key has an Apple on it.)
Release the keys when you see a white welcome screen.
At the prompt, type:
eject cd
Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject the disc, and "ok" appears on the screen when the action is complete.
Type:
mac-boot
Press Return.
Your computer starts up normally and you see the familiar Mac OS X desktop.

  • Macbook Pro ejects Leopard disk

I just went down to my local Apple store and bought Leopard. But when I put the DVD in the drive, it spins it for a few minutes and then ejects it. The DVD never mounts. I have a DVD-R with Unbuntu Fiesty Fawn that I then tried to mount. No problem. It mounts and I can open files from the drive.
So I started up the Ubuntu desktop. It mounts the Leopard disk just fine. So it seems that the drive works (and it reads DVDs, since I've seen other posts where a superdrive reads either CDs or DVDs, but not both). And the install DVD can mount on another computer.
    Any ideas?

Same issues with Leopard disc my macbook pro was repeatedly ejecting the disc-- very frustrating and weird... I read some stuff here and elsewhere, tried turning the laptop on it's side and upside down with no results. As I explored more I found that it was ejecting ANY install dvd-- CS3 and my EyeTv install disc ejected as well. Long Story Short I found something called Disctop Pro a freeware widgety type thing that installs a preference panel -- all it really does in reality is create a large image of a dvd on your screen when you load a disc... OK I'm not sure WHY or HOW>> but it fixed my issue- Installing Leopard now as i type this... CS3 disc loaded normally and hopefully I will have none of these issues with Leopard upgrade HOPE this helps someone out... and thanks to developers of disctop pro that they accidently fixed my problem.

  • How can I eject a disk that won't eject from my iBook G4?

What can I do to eject a disk, that won't eject. from my iBook G4?

If it is trying to eject and won't it may be that the slot opening
is blocked by the protective cover. Mine was torn and after a couple of attempts
to repair it I ended up removing it.
If jocho's suggestion doesn't help try:

  • I can't eject a disk

I was trying to boot my mini off a Disk Warrior DVD. It only boots to a startup screen but doesn't go any further. Now I just want to eject the disk and I can't. If I shut it off it just tries to boot off the disk but it never gets to the point where I can use the keyboard eject. I currently have the case cracked open but I don't see anywhere that I can use the old paper clip trick. Is there any way I can get this disk out of the drive?

I can tell you how to do it, but be VERY careful and don't sue me if it makes it worse....
if you carefully put something in the disk opening like a credit card...something non metalic...you are going to attempt to just softly nudge the dvd...this should cause the mini to sense a "severe tracking error" and auto eject the dvd.
just noticed the new mini i have added a "eject" button on the unit...thats awesome.

  • Mac Book Pro ejecting Leopard Disk!

I'm not sure whats going on. I have a Mac Book Pro Core Duo 2. When I put the leopard disk in, after about 1 minute, it ejects and does nothing. My other mac book pro installed fine. My friends iBook also recognizes it. What's up?

You're not going to believe this, but I had the same problem this weekend on my MB 2GHz (white), and found this answer on another board: insert disk and turn the machine upside down. Hold it that way until the familiar sound of the disk read completing is heard, then set it down back upright. I know it sounds bizarre, but it worked for me, after I had run disk util and every other goddam geeky thing on the disk to try and fix it.

  • I can't eject a disk from my MAC

I was trying to download a disk to iTunes last night and it locked up.  Not just the disk, but iTunes has locked me out completely as well.  I went to the finder and saw the disk listed and clicked for it to Force Eject, but nothing happened.  I also went to System Preferences and clicked on CD/DVD and now it too is locked. What now?
    TIA for the help!

Yes tbirdvet, it's plugged directly into my Mac Mini.
Thanks IIIaass, I couldn't find the link to the Super Drive troubleshooting.  I'll give it a try.
By the way, I did another restart in an effort to eject the disk and on start-up the disk did NOT eject but is now displayed on my desktop.  Hopefully it was just a minor glitch.

  • I can't eject a disk from my external super drive.

I have an Apple Super Drive connected to my Mac Mini.  I've inserted a DVD and it doesn't appear on my desktop, doesn't show in the Disk Utility, isn't recognized by DVD Player, and will not eject via the keyboard nor DVD Player key.  I used this same disk yesterday with no problems so I turned off the Mac Mini and did a Restart.  This caused the disk to eject.  In an attempt to discover if it was the fault of the DVD, I inserted a different disk and have the same results.  Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Can't eject install disk

I used the install disk to reboot my computer. When I tried to eject I get an "applications or files still in use." I can't figure which ones they would be. Tried restarting several times. No success. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Maybe it is still starting up from the disc? Try holding the option key down next time you restart and choose the hard drive as the as the startup disk.

  • I can't eject a disk--what to do? URGENT help needed :-)

Hey everyone, I put a CD with photos in my Macbook, of the sort you get if you ask the photo developers' lab to put your images on a CD. I'm trying to eject it but it won't let me. I have tried dragging and dropping the desk top icon to the trash, going to Finder and ejecting via the command on the menu bar, and via the symbol next to the disk name in the finder window, and none worked. I get a message saying 'the disk QSS_CD is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting applications and try again'
What is this, what am I supposed to do? The worse is I need to go out with my macbook in a few hours and I need to shut it down, and I'm not sure I should even do that with the bloomin' CD inside. any help will be VERY much appreciated, especially if it comes quickly; I've been up the better part of the night trying to finish something, and I need to hit the sack like soon!!
Thanks, sorry for the erratic writing. darn tired yawn

Well it sounds to me like one of the applications you're running is using the CD to import or view the photos on the CD. If you were trying to import all of the photos into your iPhoto library, make sure that the pictures themselves were copied into iPhoto's folder on your macbook, and iPhoto isn't just allowing you to view the photos that are still on the cd.
When all else fails, you can go into applications, utilities, and then activity monitor and select any application you think might be using the cd. I'd start with iPhoto or Preview. And then try to eject the cd, by either pushing eject in any finder window or just pushing the eject button on your keyboard in the upper right hand. Good luck.

Deauthorizing the computer will only cause you to have to enter a password to play iTunes Store purchases on that computer. It doesn't have anything to do with media thats synced to the iPod, other than the account user name is synced too.
Check this Apple document out -> Using iPad or iPod with multiple computers
If you want to delete the music library on your device and make the new computer its "home" computer, choose Erase and Sync. iTunes will delete all songs and playlists on your device, and then will copy the music library and playlists from the new home computer to your device.
If you want to move the iTunes Store purchases on your device to the new computer, choose "Transfer Purchases." The new computer must be set up with your iTunes Store account and authorized to play your iTunes Store purchases in order to transfer your iTunes Store purchases.
    Notes:
Synchronization generally occurs only in one direction, from your computer to your device. However, if you are legally allowed to transfer song files, you can use your iPod as a hard disk3. An exception is the transfer purchases feature, which allows you to restore purchased iTunes content to an authorized computer from your device.

  • Reinstalling Adobe Apps to a Leopard Disk

I have just updated to Leopard and did what I usually do which is to do a clean install to a new hard disk and then migrate my personal files. I don't migrate the apps as I know there are problems doing this, and it gives me the opportunity to do a bit of house cleaning. I then reinstall the applications and update them to the latest versions as I go along.
However with the new Adobe activation system I have run into a problem. As a test I tried to reinstall Illustrator on the Leopard disk, but it came back with an error saying I have to uninstall the application even though it isn't on the disk. It must be seeing some files I don't know about, files that must have been transferred when I did the migration of my personal stuff. How do I find these files if there are any?
Apart from the inconvenience this is causing in wasted time, I'd like to be able to keep a Tiger 10.4.11 disk with Illustrator and my other Adobe apps, on the same machine as my Leopard disk. I have a mac pro and I can boot it from either the Leopard disk or the Tiger one. I want to do this so I can test the Leopard disk before I commit to it. I switch back and forth until I am happy with the new system. If I uninstall the apps on the old disk I lose this functionality.
Would it have been better if I transferred the apps as well in the first place
    All the best
    richard

I think it's more complicated than that. Because it's a second disc effectively this could be seen by Adobe's activation system as a third install which of course is not allowed. Which means I have to either migrate my apps at the same time I do my prefs, or uninstall on the old disc and re install to the new Leopard.
Whatever it's a right royal pain and I hate Adobe because of it. Why punish paying customers with this draconian system. Give us a little respect I say.

  • My CD doesn't appear on my desktop, and I can't eject it

    Dear All,
I have inserted a CD which doesn't appear on my computer at all. I have used the advice given in the section 'Ejecting a disc when all else fails' of my help manual, and I CAN NOT eject this disk, what should I do?? Does anyone at all have any ideas please?
    Thank you!

Hi i also had a recent problem with a stuck cd in my 12" powerbook slot loading drive. I would suggest attempting all the operating system problem solvers first that are covered in other discussions on this site, such as holding down alt + command(apple logo thingy) + F + O straight away when starting up your computer. This brings you to the open firmware where you type "eject cd."
My problem seemed more physical than a glitch in the operating system The CD would try to eject several times each time failing with a horrid grinding unhealthy sound as if something was blocking it. After a while the computer seemed to disable the act of even trying to eject the disc and the cd would not be recognize on my desktop or anywhere else.
After days of suffering and failed attempts I managed to get the disc out by getting another cd that was not important, and placing it in the mouth of the slot loading drive and carefully bending the cd gently in a wrist swiveling manor so that the slot got pushed wider. This sounds foolish behavior I know, but cds have a nice flex to them which softens contact with the soft aluminum metal. After a slight widening I tried ejecting once more and it thankfully worked. The disc that came out was incredibly scratched so I came to conclusion that the drive had been squashed a little bit down the line.
Any way hope this works and sorry about the essay.

  • Can't eject HDD using time machine

    Greetings folks,
I have 2 TB Lacie external HDD that I use for Time machine backups. When I try to eject it, finder says it is still in use, although Time machine is switched off. Also, I added the volume to be excluded from Spotlight, but the message "spotlight will keep on searching backup files" apears when I add the volume to the privacy tab. Any suggestions?

    Hello Nexus6generation,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your external hard drive.  I recommend these steps when you are unable to eject the disk:
If you can’t eject an external disk
Choose Apple menu > Log Out, and then log in again. Try to eject the disk again.
If you still can’t eject the disk, choose Apple menu > Shut Down. Disconnect the disk from your computer, and then start up your computer again.

Try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
and PRAM How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If those don't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of compressed air. Chances are that your drive has failed, join the club it's not all that uncommon. You can either have it replaced or purchase an inexpensive external drive. Don't buy the cute little Apple USB Superdrive, it won't work on macs with internal drives working or not.
