Can't empty Trash due to error codes

I have begun getting error codes when I attempt to empty Trash. For example:
+"The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)."+
Of course, if I use SuperEmptyTrash, I can empty Trash. But, I should not have to do it that way.
I would appreciate any insight into what may be happening here.

Since these two external drives had been backed up previously, this process must have resulted in Time Machine deleting the previous backups of these two external drives.
I don't think so. When adding an item to the Exclude list, previous backups should not be deleted. And even when Time Machine does delete something, it's deleted immediately. TM never moves an item to the Trash.
So I suspect that something else is going on. Try disconnecting all of your external drives and unmount all disk images. Do you then still have the same problem emptying the Trash?

  • Help-can not empty trash due to localized.rsrc file

I have dumped all of the contents of my cloned backup hard drive to the trash. Usually I can empty it w/ no problem. However, it will now permit me to empty only part of the contents, and returns a message that it is stopped because the item "Localized.rsrc" is in use. When I use spotlight to find this glitch it shows me that Localized.rsrc is a Unix exe file in the following location: Library/Frameworks/Stuffit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/English.|proj'
I tried the suggestions from this forum at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2313873&#2313873 with no success. How can I empty the trash and get on with my life? Thank you!

If I were you I would put the Palm stuff back where it came from, that is drag it out of the trash and onto your backup drive, and then empty the trash. This would at least get everything else out of the trash. You could then try the Terminal remove command on the Palm folder:
sudo rm -R [drag the Palm folder here]
Hit return and enter your password. The command would look something like this:
    Tiger:~ francine$ sudo rm -R /Volumes/BackUpDrive/PalmWhatever/
    Password:
Does that return an error message?

  • HT201210 what is - can not restore ipad due to error code 2006

trying to figure out what error code 2006 is - it is not one listed and I can't restore my ipad to factory settings

It is listed, you just sort have to play around on the support site in order to find it.
    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

  • Can't empty trash because of a code

I recently came across my MacBP automatically deleting all my files upon sending it to the trash. It basically prompted me to delete everything without placing it to the trash.
As a solution, i came across a piece of code (in a discussion already archived in this community), supposedly giving me the solution to use the following instructions and code:
open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
    mkdir ~/.Trash
If you get a message stating that the folder exists, run the following:
    sudo chown $UID ~/.Trash
    chmod u+rwx ~/.Trash
It acutally solved the problem but ended up giving me another problem - which is that i now can't seem to delete anything placed in the trash. The trash makes an emptying sound but the items are still there.
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!! :-(
    Thanks in advance!

Usually rebooting clears it so you can empty the trash, otherwise:

  • -8003 Error "Can't Empty Trash" only with specific item

Tried to get rid of a folder for an applicaiton that I'd downloaded & installed on a trial basis, then decided not to buy.
Any time I trash this folder with the app and related files, I get the "Can't Empty Trash -8003" error.
If I remove that folder, I can empty the trash fine.
    Any ideas?

  • Disk full, can't empty trash, recovery disk utilities doesn't work

Ok I am having some real problems and hope someone here can help me out?!?  I am getting a start up drive full message, tried emptying my trash and getting " error code -36" , tried verifying disk in utilities and got that I needed to run recovery disk utilities due to corrupt files, but when trying "Command ker & R Restart" just getting a full disk message after Apple Emblem. And not able to run the utility...any suggestions? THANKS!

If you can get the machine to start you will need to move large libraries to an external HD. OS X likes to have 10-15% of the HD available at all times! What libraries I would recommend targeting are your photographs (iPhoto), music (iTunes) and movies (iMovie). Apple provides instructions for how to move those libraries, you can find the links by Googling
move iphoto library to external hard drive for example
Good luck! If you cannot boot the computer you will need to boot from to the recovery partition (hold down the Option key when you hear the startup tone) and use terminal to move the files.
