Can't enable Internet Sharing on my phone

Hello,
I have a Nokia Lumia 920 and every time I try to enable Internet Sharing I get the message: "internet sharing isn't currently available". I tried several things for a week now and I can't seem to find a solution. It's really frustrating.
Here's what I have done:
Took the SIM card off the phone and placed it on an Android phone.   Enabled HotSpot and tested it with NO problems.   This means my carrier supports tethering or sharing internet connections
Back on the Lumia 920 I tried lots of things, specially the trick explained in this forum, which is creating a new APN in the "access point" section, activating it, rebooting, and then re-activating the old APN.    Didn't work.
I have also searched for an APN inside the CELLULAR section (in order to delete it),  but I found only the Active network and no APNs over there
I have deleted all APNs inside the "access point" section, rebooted, and found the phone can still connect and navigate the internet even when there are NO APNs created at all!  In this particular scenario I tried to enable Internet Sharing and nothing.
Please any hint or lead will be greatly appreciated.  It's very frustrating.
Thanks.

McClausky, if your Wi-Fi is enabled and your are not in flight-mode: Please, give us the name of your network operator and that 7-letter code on the label on your phone (product-code). Perhaps it is the combination of both which creates this trouble. Are you connected to another Wi-Fi while starting the Internet sharing feature?

  • Unable to establish TCP connection when enabling internet sharing (Phone acting as hotspot)

    I have developed a small .NET Desktop application which hosts a TCP service. In addition, it sends UDP Multicasts to anounce that service.
    Service consumer is a Phone 8.1 app, which listens for these UDP multicasts and when it receives such a multicast, it creates a TCP connection to the service.
    The following snippet shows how the Phone 8.1 app listens for UDP packets and then connects via TCP
    const string UdpPort = "42";
    const string TcpPort = "43";
    const string MultiCastIp = "224.5.6.7";
    const int TimeoutForServerLookup = 10000;
    //-- listen for UDP multicasts
    HostName hostNameOfServer = null;
    var udp = new DatagramSocket();
    var clientFound = false;
    udp.MessageReceived += delegate(DatagramSocket sender, DatagramSocketMessageReceivedEventArgs args)
    try
    hostNameOfServer = args.RemoteAddress;
    catch (Exception ex)
    s_Log.Error("Error in handling UDP packet", ex);
    await udp.BindServiceNameAsync(UdpPort);
    udp.JoinMulticastGroup(new HostName(MultiCastIp));
    var waitedTimeInMs = 0;
    const int delayInMs = 250;
    while (waitedTimeInMs < TimeoutForServerLookup && hostNameOfServer == null)
    waitedTimeInMs += delayInMs;
    await Task.Delay(TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(delayInMs));
    udp.Dispose();
    //-- we now have the adress of the TCP server (hostNameOfServer)
    //-- connect now to the server. this works when being in a "normal" WLAN, does not work when the phone is the hotspot
    var socket = new StreamSocket();
    await socket.ConnectAsync(hostNameOfServer, TcpPort);
    This works well when the Desktop computer and the Windows Phone 8.1 are within the same WLAN. For some customers it is important that this also works when the Windows Phone 8.1 acts as hotspot (by enabling internet sharing on the phone) and the desktop computer
    (or Laptop) connects itself to this WLAN. In this scenario the Phone 8.1 still receives the UDP packets, but when trying to connect via TCP, the connection attempt fails.
    Any ideas how to get rid of this problem?

    Have you tracked down if the phone actually sends the TCP connection to the desktop? I'm feeling that this is a firewall issue that shows itself when the firewall zone changes (public/private/domain).

  • Cannot enable Internet Sharing on ATT Lumia 900 du...

    I have a Lumia 900 in the US.  It was only sold by ATT in the US.  I however am not with ATT, I'm with Straight Talk, an MVNO.  When I try to enable Internet Sharing on the phone it pops up a message saying I need to contact ATT.  I have no business relationship with ATT and they cannot help me.  I would like to remove this message so I can get Internet Sharing working on my phone.  The phone is unlocked, but that didn't seem to make the message go away.

    Ok after feeling very positive that this was now going to work I can report that my call 611 ATT notification is now back and the internet sharing does not seem to want to be available.
    Other observations that are worth noting.
    1) You need to configure the internet APN using Nokia Network Setup with the fast.t-mobile.com and the MMS with the epc.t-mobile.com or the internet connection cuts out every time you hit LTE speeds. So thats only three entries required in the config the last being the MMSC address available on the T-mobile site.
    I am enjoying my handset on T-mobile with the internet speeds, I would still like to use the internet sharing so I will continue to drill down and look or a way around the issue.

  • Trouble enabling internet sharing on my server

    I'm setting up my first server (10.4 on a mac pro).
    Under Sharing Prefs, I can't find the tab that I would normally use to enable internet sharing.
    I'd like our external internet line to go into Ethernet1 and our network switch to plug into Ethernet2.
    Thanks!

    Also setup DNS in the server and use that for LAN clients or you probably will have to change firewall settings to allow the use of a public DNS to-from LAN.

    I can't enable Home Sharing in both PC, iPhone 4S and IPad 2. i enabled them but my IPhone couldn't find my iTunes Library in my PC

    The iPhone 5 requirements are:
    Syncing with iTunes on a Mac:
    Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
    iTunes 10.7 or later
    So, upgrade your MacBook system to Snow Leopard OS 10.6.x Then you can sync both devices.

  • Enabling 'Internet Sharing' disables my internet connection

    Hi all, my desktop computer (iMac 27") is hooked up to the internet via ethernet cable/modem. Very simple configuration. I normally share the internet connection (password protected) that my other devices access via wifi.
    For months this has been working just fine. today I've been having connectivity issues. I worked with my cable company to determine the issue. what finally solved it was disabling wifi, shutting down the modem & computer. Then boot the modem, afterwards boot the computer.
    This worked great, I saw everything working in Network Diagnostics...
    Then, I re-enabled Internet Sharing, with the same settings I've used for months, and I saw the connection disappear immediately in Network Diagnostics (Ethernet & Network Settings were green, all else red).
    Rebooting the router didn't work. Restarting the computer with with wifi enabled didn't work. I had to disable wifi, turn off everything, boot modem, boot computer to get it to work again. Any time afterwards, where I enabled Internet Sharing the connection would break again.
    Please help! Thanks!

  • Difficulties enabling internet sharing

    For months I've been having problems enabling internet sharing from my ethernet sharing over airport. Everything appears to be configured correctly, and when I check the "Internet Sharing" box in System Preferences > Sharing, the green dot is displayed next to Internet Sharing: On, but system.log shows:
    Jul 2 09:41:42 Musa com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.InternetSharing[7708]): Exited with exit code: 1
    Jul 2 09:41:42 Musa com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.InternetSharing): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
    A workaround that worked in perhaps 50% of cases was to make sure that Airport was off, and then check Internet Sharing, enable Airport when asked to, and finally click "start" when asked "Are you sure you want to turn on internet sharing?"
    But this works less and less frequently.
    Any advice that could be offered would be appreciated.

    The fix was to erase my hard disk and restore a cloned backup.

  • Internet sharing to (Android) phone via Airport in my iMac

    Can I share my internet via Airport (wireless) thru my iMac so i can use it on my Android phone?
    Can it be done?
    I dont have a wireless modem, but i shared internet so far but i cant make it to work for ma Xperia X10
    Help...
    Anybody?

    Did you set up Internet Sharing to  share from WiFi to Bluetooth PAN?
    Does the phone use Bluetooth PAN?
    If you've done all that and can't get internet, try adding a Domain Name Server to your phone, such as OpenDNS or Google. The addresses are:
    OpenDNS:
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google:
    8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
    I don't have any other ideas.

  • Can I use internet sharing to give internet to my Apple TV through my Macbook and use Airplay on the same computer at the same time?

    So I am using internet sharing from my Macbook to my Apple TV. The router providing internet to my Macbook has an ip address that looks like 192.168.0.x. Since the internet sharing feature assigns an ip address that looks like 192.168.2.x to my Apple TV, the Macbook is unable to see the Apple TV ("different" networks). Is there a way around this so I can share internet and still be able to use Airplay between the two?
    BTW I am using a Macbook Pro Retina 15'' (late 2013) on Mavericks 10.9.1 and Apple TV 3.
    Thanks.

    Why are you tyring to spilt your connection though the MBP?  Why don't you just connect them both to the router as they are meant to be setup?

  • How can I use Internet Sharing with Firewall on ?

    Hi,
    My PowerMac G5 is connected to the internet via Ethernet. I share the connection to a Powerboog via Airport using internet sharing. Everything is working fine except when I turn the Firewall on. After reading http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107653 I tried opening port 443 but it still does'nt work. I'd like to be able to use internet sharing with the firewall on. Anyone can help me ? Thanks!

    Hmmm, how curious... I never had to do that in 10.4.7 or 10.4.8... the only ones I ever tried Internet Sharing with.
    I'm wondering if turning the Firewall on after the Internet sharing is what's doing it? Just for kicks you might try turning off Internet Sharing, then Firewall on, then turn on Internet Sharing.
    If that doesn't work, then I'd personally try trashing...
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    Then reboot and try the Firewall again.

  • How can I troubleshoot Internet Sharing (wifi to ethernet)?

    Hi hi everyone!
    Any idea how to troubleshoot wifi/ethernet Internet Sharing? I use to network a media player (like an AppleTV not made by Apple) and recently it stopped working. Luckily I have two macs in the house to shoot the troubles.
    I have an iMac running Leopard 10.5.5 and a Powerbook running Tiger.
    I have tried sharing both ways (imac wifi » powerbook ethernet and powerbook wiki » imac ethernet) but am only able to get an IP from the DHCP server (Airport Extreme N base station). I am not able to get on the web (google search, etc).
    Where can I look to see what's not working?

  • Can't do Internet Sharing via Airport, laptop PC to iMac

    Help! I'm trying to connect a Windows laptop to my Mac via AirPort to do Internet Sharing. I have Internet Sharing turned on and AirPort is on.
    The laptop PC can see the Mac, but it has a red X and the following message:
    "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network."

    I'm finding, after working at it for a while, that "Frank's Computer" shows up as an ad hoc network on the laptop PC and the wireless connection is solid, but Internet Sharing still isn't working. Is there a distinction between ad hoc networks and Internet Sharing? Could it not be working because an ad hoc setting has been made and Airport can't do two things at once?

  • Updated to 5.0.1 and now can't enable home sharing on 4S

    I just updated the OS yesterday and now I'm unable to on turn home sharing on my 4S.  It worked fine prior to the update.  I've checked all the network settings. Works fine from my computer to my apple TV, just can get it to activate on my phone?  Any suggestions?

    Perhaps quit and relaunch iTunes. Also, I've noticed many times even on iOS 4 versions, that if you're playing music that is not from the iTunes or Remote App, you need to load the Music program firs and play something from that to get the Airplay icon to appear. Once it appears, it's available for all the other apps.
