Can't enable shared libraries in Parental - grey checkbox

Hi to all.
After the reinstallation of Leopard, I've found out that I'm unable to use shared library feature in iTunes. The checkbox in the Parental, saying Disable Shared libraries is checked and inactive (grey). Just as long as the Radio one. There is no way I can uncheck it (lock is opened, tried everything). What could that be? I reinstalled again and noticed that Shared libraries works OK on a brand new-installed system. After the installation of any update (Airport, iTunes, QT) the situation in the iTunes Preferences becomes just as i've described above.
I'll appreciate any suggestions. Googling for several hours gave me nothing.

Hi,
This does not answer your question.
I have updated to the newest OS 10.6.5, I want my daughter to be able to have her music on her iTune set up using Parental controls. I don't have a check box for shard libraries. There must be a way to port her music to her iTunes site. Any answers out there?

You could either remove the iCloud account altogether and have him create his own or go into settings->store-> and switch automatically download Apps off.  And go into icloud and turn off photostream.  Depends on what you prefer.

How do I import music using homeshare with iTunes 11...I can see the shared libraries but I can't drag and drop and there is no import button.  Thanks!

Yes, that appears how Mavericks works right now. However, you can open the Address Panel, select all your contacts, then click the To (or CC, or Bcc) buttons to move the selection to the address field.
If it is not already in the Toolbar, right-click on the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar…
Then, drag the address panel up to wherever you want it.
You may also want to add it to the New Message window in the same way.

  • TS2972 Home sharing is enabled but can not see shared libraries on any devices

Also see an entry for udp port 5353.
I can open a connection to the tcp port 3689 via a java api program and telnet.
I also used TS2972 to help with thiss
the only thing I did not do is reset the router but since I can open the ports I don't beleieve it is a router issue
All devices ere connected to the same router
All devices are using the same apple id
Need this to work to get the most out of the iphone and apple tv
    any ideas are appreciated

I have set the apple ID in the Home sharing setting on windows. Also set it on the iPhone and Apple TV and also shared another library on another windows iTunes application. I don't see any shared libraries on any device. Both the pcs only show the local  libray.

  • Can't find shared libraries

I do not have the option to look for shared libraries in the preferences under sharing.  How can I find my library on my other computer?

I don't have this option either!

  • Can't see shared libraries any more...?

I used to be able to see shared libraries on the left hand bar, but now that tab is gone. I've already gone under preferences to make sure the Look for shared libraries preference is checked. I've tried unchecking and checking this repeatedly. I don't know what else to do, because I used to be able to see them completely fine but I can no longer.

Well the first thought is, are the shared libraries you used to see actually currently online?
In other words, if you used that to see the library from the computer upstairs while on the downstairs computer, is the upstairs computer currently running iTunes? Because you can not see the library if iTunes isn't running or if the computer is off or if the computer is disconnected from the network.

  • Panda3d 1.6.2-3 binary programs can't find shared libraries

This was a bit of an issue for me, and I wanted to see if this was an issue for anyone else.
Initially after installing panda3d 1.6.2-3 I had issues running the binary programs it provided, in particular punzip. punzip would complain about not finding the required shared libraries (such as libpanda.so), and adding symbolic links to the libraries in /opt/panda3d/lib tended to solve these issues. Adding /opt/panda3d/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and running ldconfig solve this issue completely.
I checked the PKGBUILD and noticed that a profile file (panda3d.profile) is installed into /etc/profile.d as panda3d.sh which exports /opt/panda3d/bin and /opt/panda3d/lib to the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH environmental variables, respectively. When I run `echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH ` I do get ':/opt/panda3d/lib' as the output so the path is getting exported correctly. However, I've confirmed that removing the /opt/panda3d/lib entry in /etc/ld.so.conf causes many (if not all) of the binary programs panda3d installs to loose track of their shared libraries even when /opt/panda3d/lib is clearly in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable.
Am I the only one experiencing these issues? I'd be interested to know why my system isn't working as intended Obviously if this is a common issue adding a line to the PKGBUILD to add the entry to /etc/ld.so.conf might be a good solution.

report this issue on bugtracker. seems to me that is a bug.

  • Can't see Shared Libraries with iTunes 7

I can no longer see shared music/libraries since I updated to iTunes 7. My roommate can but she can only see her own music. She has a Windows XP computer, I have a Mac Powerbook running OS X 10.4.7. Also, when I quit sometimes, it says people are connected to me. But I can't see that. Anyone know how to fix this?

hmm - this really sounds like your network is screwy - but that should affect iTunes 6 as well as iTunes 7. Let's do this quick test.
    Download this software:
    http://www.tildesoft.com/Files/BonjourBrowser.dmg
And double click on the application it puts on your desktop (Bonjour Browser).
It will put up a list of all the network services it can see. Look for the one called: "iTunes Music Sharing" & click on the little grey triangle beside it.
It should then expand into a list of all the iTunes Music shares it can see.
What is in the list? Anything? Do you see your roommate's computer? I assume you are in a dorm. Do you see other iTunes shares?

  • Shared Libraries Won't Play

I can see the shared libraries on the other 2 Macs on my home WiFi network, but the songs won't play.
Also - one of the Mac's libraries won't show on the others, even though library sharing is turned on.
    Any help?

It has to do with how I was transscoding the videos. Handbrake tags the videos in a way that makes it impossible to play in Windows. Retagging with a program like MetaX will solve the issue.

  • HT1904 parental controls and shared libraries

We're slowly migrating towards having all our music and movies in iTunes.
One item that's crutial to this migration is proper parental controls, especially with shared libraries. They seem to work well on the kids iTouch devices and hide the content that's higher than their allowed rating level.
However, on my daughter's computer (Vista SP2 with iTunes 11.0.2), the shared libraries with content higher than her allowed rating are visible and can be started, even when the parental controls are enabled.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Eric

It seems that the parental controls only apply to iTunes store, not the iTunes library?
Correct; parental controls do indeed only apply to iTunes Store purchases.
The only reasonable workaround I can think of that the kids can't easily get around to have separate iTunes libraries, one for the adults in the house and one from the kids.

  • Can client dynamically link to shared libraries for different versions ?

Can Oracle client dynamically link to Oracle shared libraries if the versions are different ?
    Hi:
I apologize for this newbie question:
We are using PRO C to generate the client C code.
We can compile both dynamic and static versions of our Oracle client.
    Our question is:
is it possible to compile a dynamically linked Oracle client in say version 10.1.0.2 and actually run the application against say version 8.1.7.0 environment ?
That is, can an Oracle client dynamically link to the Oracle shared libraries if the versions are different ?
If it is possible, then how to modify the makefile
to enable Oracle client to reference different versions
    of shared libraries ?
    Thanks
    JL

What you describe is not supported.

  • Can't enable Dictation (Greyed out)

System Preferences -> Dictation & Speech -> Dictation tab
All the settings are greyed out:
On/Off, Shortcut, Language, About Dictation and Privacy...
    ...so I can't enable dictation.
    Anyone else have this?
Input is set to Internal microphone -- the mic is working fine as the icon indicates the input level changing when there's noise.
    Odd...

I think it's related to Profile Management -- or actually 'Parental Controls' -- as I see an option in there to disable Dictation (disabled by default for new Parental Control accounts).
Since my account is an Adminstrator account, by design I can't have Parental Control enabled on it, but the Users preferance pane would suggest it is 'Managed'.
This is understandable to some degree, as my account WAS managed from Lion server when I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Maybe that's why it applied default parental control to my admin account during the upgrade!! Holy moly..
I've since removed the management profiles deployed via OS X server but to no avail.  My account is still 'Managed', Shows 'Enable Parental Controls' as ticked. If i try to untick it it says 'You cannot enable parental controls on for an administator account'... lol.
    BUG!

  • I can't access my Home Sharing libraries

I have tried so many times to find the shared libraries, and looked at all the advice so far. I have a windows, with the newest iTunes, 10.5, and am trying to connect my new mac to it, same iTunes 10.5. The boxes are ticked, the network is fine, there is no blocking firewall, both computers are authorised. I have also re-installed and re-started my computers numerous times. My old windows computer has connected to other computers before. After I sign in to home sharing and click done, it disappears. Where you go to tick the boxes, under preferences/sharing, it says "On, no users connected". its the same on both machines but they are on the same account. How come? and how can I get to share my libraries across computers? If i cant then i bought this very expensive new laptop for nothing.

Let me explain the two different ways of sharing media libraries in iTunes and hopefully that may shed some light on how things work for you and others and lead to a solution to your problem. This will also allow me to correct something in my previous post.
I use Home Sharing exclusively and don't always remember about Library Sharing but iTunes also has another sharing feature called Library Sharing that is a little different and slightly more restrictive.
Home Sharing is enabled by selecting Home Sharing from the 'Advanced' menu (see screen shot below) and entering your Apple ID and password. Home Sharing allows unrestricted access to the shared iTunes library from computers on the network as well as from iOS devices. Home Sharing is required for access by iOS devices, they do not work with Library Sharing. Home sharing also allows you to copy media from one computer to another, something you can't do with Library Sharing. Home Sharing overrides Library Sharing if both are enabled.
Library Sharing is enable by selecting 'Share my library on my local network' in iTunes Preference (see screen shot below.) Library Sharing does not work with iOS devices. Library Sharing only allows for the playback of media from shared libraries. You cannot copy media from one computer to another using Library Sharing. The 'Status:' indicator will display a count of the number of computers that are connected to your library using Library Sharing. Home Sharing connections will not be indicated here. You can also restrict who can connect to your library using a password. This password restriction has no affect on Home Sharing connections. They are authorized and controlled by the use of Apple IDs.
How to tell if you are connecting to a library shared by Home Sharing or Library Sharing (see screen shot below.) A Home Sharing library icon looks like a house with a musical note on the side. A Library Sharing icon looks like a stack of CDs with a musical note on top. They are both labeled by the name of the shared library as configured in iTunes Preferences.
I think I've covered everything and hope this helps people understand the difference between the two types of shared libraries and how to configure each.

  • Can't find "Look for shared libraries" in the Sharing pane of iTunes preferences. How can I find it?

I am trying to set up Home Sharing between my computer and my wife's. Sharing keeps disappearing from the side bar although Home Sharing is turned on for both computers. Using the Help tab it says to check the "Look for shared libraries" in the preferences/shared box. The problem is that "Look for shared libraries is not there to select. Any ideas how I can sort this out?

I'm having a similar issue even after the "Shared Libraries" box is checked in General preferences on iTunes...
On early verisons of iTunes i had no problem with sharing or remote access via iPad.  I really need to figure out how to get this working.
