Hi,
By default, write caching is disabled on a disk that contains the Active Directory database (Ntds.dit). Also, write caching is disabled on a disk that contains the Active Directory log files. By doing this, you enhance the reliability of the Active
Directory files.
Thus if it is a DC, try to move the Active Directory database and the Active Directory log files off of a disk in which you need to enable write caching.

  • Can't Zap the P-RAM , Can't start from an installer disk with the C-Key...

Can't Zap the P-RAM , Can't start from an installer disk with the C-Key... or The D-Key for Apple Hardware test or run with the shift Key in Safe Mode!!!
About a week ago I started to have problems with the Mac after 10.5.6! First the Mac after shut down would restart on its own in 10 to 15 minutes. I read in various forums about some of the 10.5.6 problems. I did a clean reinstall where the Mac created a previous system folder. After this suddenly mail, I-Chat as well as some other programs would open, then close immediately! Since I did not have things backed up because I didn't have a large drive, I dragged my files and apps to another drive and reformatted the drive zeroing out all data and did a fresh new install then brought in the combo 10.5.6 update. The Mac is running correctly but I can't Zap the P-Ram, startup from the Mac OS X installer Dvd with the C key or run Apple Hardware Test with the D key or boot in safe mode with the shift key. I can boot any of the Bootable disks from the start-up Disk in Preferences.
I went over this with Apple and they suggested I run the Apple Hardware test. It won't run on this machine because I can't boot it with the D- Key. I ran tech Tools and every single thing checks out OK! This Mac has worked great since I got it in I believe Feb or March of 2007.

Make sure that you don't have firmware password protection enabled. It will prevent some boot key shortcuts from working, like clearing NVRAM, etc. You can disable firmware password protection by booting off the OSX DVD and loading the utility.

  • Can Time Machine write to a Disk Image on a Time Capsule?

I just inherited a Gen 1 Time Machine (500gb).  I have three Macs on my network.  In my current set up I have an external 500gb drive split into three equal partitions, one for each Mac.
I know I cannot partition the TC HD, but I also know I can create one or more Disk Images.
Question:  Can Time Machine write to a Disk Image on a Time Capsule?
    Thanks.
    MotionMan

I know the backups will not mix.
One of the Macs is a MacBook that only hooks up to the network every couple weeks.  Before I partitioned my existing TM backup disk, the TM backups of the other two Macs were filling the disk.  When the MacBook then tried to make a backup, the oldest backups of the MacBook would drop off.
So, the other two Macs had backps for months, but the MacBook ended up with much less.  That is what lead me to the 3 partitions, so each Mac had an equal space for their backups.
Odd that there there is no good solution for this.

  • Solaris Volume Manager - Unable to write to root disk with RAID1

I setup my mirror, sub-mirror, and meta database to enable SVM to use raid1. When I change my vfstab to the meta locations I am able to boot, but are unable to write on the disk. Does anyone know why this might be happening that may cause my root disk to act like this? Thanks in advance!

Generally you set up the meta device with only one child initially so its not mirrored.
Then change to mount the meta device then add the mirror device.
You can't mirror while mounting one disk since writes arent going to both disks and the mirrror isnt consistent..

  • Can I use macbook pro install Disk with macbook?

    Hi everyone,
I have a macbook and macbook pro, I had to reinstall system after harddrive went on the macbook. I can't find my macbook restore disks/installation disks. Would I be able to use the macbook pro install disks with macbook?
    Much appreciate your help.
    Mo

It might work but it's risky. The MBP installation disks may well not contain the right drivers for the MacBook. It would be better, if at all possible, if you contacted Apple tech support and asked for a new set of disks for your MacBook. They'll send you a set for a reasonable fee. If you can't wait, perhaps there's an Apple Store or other Apple dealer near you that would have a set you could borrow in-store to do the reinstallation.

  • Is it possible to enable Web Cache gzip compression with 9iAS Disco Viewer?

    Hi,
Sorry for repeating this question. But it's very urgent and we don't have any idea yet how to solve / work around it:
To keep it short: Is it possible to use Web Cache gzip compression for pages rendered by 9iAS Discoverer Viewer???
Our scenario: We have some Discoverer Worksheets which we want to access by ISDN dial in (64 kbit/sec). An average page needs 2 minutes only for sending the html/javascript output rendered by Disco Viewer to the client browser.
To speed up the response time when users use this slow connection, we want to activate Web Cache gzip compression.
The problem: But even when we enable Web Cache for Discoverer (configuration.xml and Web Cache rules), Web Cache doesn't compress pages generated by Discoverer Viewer. We found out that the generated responses contain the "content-disposition" HTTP-Header entry. Are we correct that this is the reason why there is no gzip compression? AND DOES ANYONE KNOW A WORKAROUND (p.e. configure Disco not to add the content-disposition http header)???
    Best regards,
    Matthias Scherer

When you set the caching rules, you can also specify whether or not you want the pages to be compressed. Web Cache compresses html pages and relies on the accept-encoding: gzip from the client header to determine whether or not to send the content compressed.

  • Enabling ipod as hard disk with no computer

    Hi,
I am currently away from home for 4 months and have no access to my mac or any other at present. I wanted to put all the pics and videos from my digital camera onto my ipod in their raw form (tiff, raw, but not jpeg) but I believe this is not possible unless the ipod has been enabled to use as a hard disk, I didn't know this before I left home.
Is there any way I can do this without a computer? Or would it be possible to go into an Apple shop (perhaps in Sydney as I will be passing through) and have it done there?
I apologise in advance as I will be slow to get back to any replies as I am having to use internet cafes often with dial up connection.
    Thanks for any help.

    Yes.
Hold the MENU and SELECT (Center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset the iPod. THen, while the Apple logo is displayed, press and hold the PLAY and SELECT buttons to enter Disk Mode.
Reset the iPod again to exit Disk Mode.
    Cheers!

  • Mirro Raid can you use a single 4TB disk with 2 partitions for mirrored raid ?

    Hello,
    I have a new 4TB hardrive.
After lots of reading, i was thinking that i could partician the drive to 2 (2TB) Then create mirror raid.
Essentially thinking that i would have photos on one of the (2TB particions) and they would mirror on the other  ?? as a double copy storage.
I can partician okay and the try to drag the two particians onto the "mirror raid set" and ithe following message displays :
"Can't add Seagate expansion disk" to the raid set because another volume from this disk is already part of the RAID set"
I'm now thinking i need to purchase another 4tb hardrive for this to work ?
Or if you "mirror raid set" is it actually particioning the drive and creating a copy ?
Forgive me... i'm not really very up skilled with disk utility, and basically just don't understand.
Looking forward to some help and advise
    warm regards Tracy Gr

It doesn't make any sense to mirror on the same drive. The idea behind mirroring is that should one disk in the raid set fail your data is safe on the other disk. Mirroring to partitions, if it's even possible, would only bring you disaster when the drive fails because you would lose the complete raid set and all of your data. If you insist on mirroring buy another drive.

  • Can we enable write back option , for excel as source?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to updated an excel using write back , if so please help me how do i need to proceed with.
    Regards,
    Som

Assume that you have an excel workbook with one sheet called for instance "MySheet" that you want to insert/update on one column called "MyValue".
If you want to insert then the sql is :
INSERT INTO [MySheet$] (MyValue) VALUES (@{c0})but you can't DELETE or UPDATE. See this microsoft article :

  • Can't enable recording for Audio tracks with H2 Zoom

I'm running Logic Express 7 on a Macbook Pro Intel.
I used to record vocals with the H2 Zoom as an external mic. But since I ran an update on Logic, I can no longer enable recording for Audio tracks for recording as soon as I connect the H2.
Interestingly, it let's me only choose an H2 output driver.
Connecting the same device to Garageband I can choose both, H2 output driver and H2 input driver.
Anyone else facing this problem? Advice is greatly appreciated.

You have to set it up using the aggregate device editor (utilities folder). In the utilities folder open AUDIO MIDI setup. From the menu select Audio>Open Aggregate device editor. Add a new aggregate device and name it zoom. Selelct H2 auidio in and H2 Audio out. Check the clock next to H2 Audio out only. Make the Zoom aggregate device you just created your default input in the systems setting area of the audio midi setup form. Close Audio Midi Setup and return to Logic. You may need to restart logic. You should now see "Zoom" in Preferences>Audio> Core audio> Device and you should be able to record using the H2.
    Hope this helps

  • How can I enable 16 outs from Logic with Intel Mac Pro?

    Hi everyone,
I am a bit new to the digital output world! I have a Digi002 with Logic 7 and I have a Behringer A/D converter box to recieve digital output using optical cable. My question is this: I can only see 8 normal stereo outputs plus additional 9-10 output. Is there a command in Logic (as per the old "enable 16 in/outs in 5.5)to allow the greyed out extra outputs to work? or I am being very stupid and not enabling some command on the Mac?
I thank you all in advance for any kind responses!

I see you're using a Behringer A/D converter. I had one of these once. It made a lot of noise: crackling, pops etc. I know that was the cause as they only happened on those 8 tracks.
I may have had a lemon, but if you get similar problems, (and I hope you don't) I have changed to the Alesis AI3 and now have no problems, it might be worth you making a mental note.

  • Can I use Windows 7 upgrade disk with my empty bootcamp partition?

In upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, I had to get rid of my Bootcamp partition running Windows XP in order for the Lion install to work successfully. I can run bootcamp and put in a new partition now.
I originaly backed up my Bootcamp partition with Winclone. It turns out that it's not really possible to restore a Windows XP partition under Lion.
No big loss. I don't have any real data of importance on that saved XP data.
However, I really need to install Windows 7.
The UPGRADE version is lower in cost.
But with NO WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM  residing in my Bootcamp partition, can I use the "UPGRADE" version of Windows 7? I do have a numeric product key for Windows XP.
Alternatively, for $199 I can buy the full install version.
    Thanks

    Stef,
Here's a way to use Winclone. Run Snow Leopard and Lion both, on your machine. Install Winclone to the Snow leopard partition. It will work. I've done this same thing on my MBP. Lion will run well if installed clean on a separate partition. Once SL is up and Winclone is installed, you can image the Boot Camp drive easily, just as before. You can do the Windows restore via Winclone before or after the install of Lion - as long as the Boot Camp partition is set up. You can also restore it the same way. So, you have SL installed as a way to run old PPC programs and Winclone, etc. I don't know if it matters, but this is the order I installed (I tested this out on a new hard drive before touching my existing drive):
    1) Snow Leopard
    2) Boot Camp
    3) Lion
I ope this helps you as well as it did me.
