Can´t enter bios setup/system does not boot

Hi,
I got a problem with my new KT6 Delta MS-6590 board.
Sometimes after a prog is crashed and its better to restart windows, my System doesn´t boot anymore. It hangs after searching RAID-Disks. The Broadcom Dialog does not appear and the System stands. When I try to reset and would like to get into the bios setup I can´t enter it. The Delete Key do not work. After clearing cmos and going on with default values the systems works correctly until the next crash.
The bracket says "Boot attempt"
Whats the problem please help  ?(

  • System does not boot during Hyper V installation

    Hi -
I was trying to install Hyper V on my Windows 8.1 professional edition, 64 bit OS. The installation was through ISO downloaded through MSDN. During installation I had to hard boot my system through switch off. Now my system does not boot correctly and during
boot it flashes a message "The last windows installation did not complete please install the setup". Does this mean that my existing 8.1 OS has crashed ? how can i come out of this and recover my data ?
    My hardware configuration is :
i7 processor, 16GB RAM, intel graphics Card, windows 8.1 professional 64 bit OS.

  • After installation of 10.6.5 system does not boot

After I updated my system with the latest release 10.6.5, the system does not boot up at all. It shuts down every time it restarts. All I can do is go into single user mode and then I cannot repair the disk as I always get the error that "The volume Macintosh HD cannot be repaired when it is in use"
    Any other suggestions?

It sounds like your friend's DVD is hardware specific to his Mac and will not work in your Mac.
Since you say a safe boot work that generally indicates that the problem is with third party software because the safe boot prevent any of that from starting.

That sounds like a failed logic board or display module on the logic board...either way you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it to see exactly what has failed.  The testing is free so give the techs a chance at diagnosing the problem.

  • System does not boot when PCIe express Card is inserted in system. Using Spartan-6 PCIe Integrated Endpoint Block 1.3

    Hi,
I am using Spartan-6 PCIe Endpoint Block core v1.3 and I am using ISE 12.1. I have used the PIO example design,
modified it according to our design.
The core is configured as below:
    BAR0 - 8KB, 32-bit, Memory Type
    Lanes - x1
Clock - 125 MHz (system clock)
The card is a custom board. When the card is pluged into the system the system does not boots, it hangs.
I have tried debugging using chipscope and monitored trn_lnk_up_n, trn_reset_n and trn_clk. trn_lnk_up_n stays
high (deasserted), trn_reset_n stays low (asserted), trn_clk is low (No clk).
    What might be the issue?
    Thanks & Regards.

    Thanks Gabor, for the response.
    I refered couple of answer records like AR# 34873 and AR# 34894, I monitored trn_reset_n, sys_reset_n, clock_locked, PLLLKDET and RESETDONE signals as suggested in AR# 34894.
    Status as follows:
    SYS_RESET_N = 1 (deasserted)
    TRN_RESET_N = 0 (asserted)
    CLOCK_LOCKED = 0 (deasserted)
    PLLLKDET = 0 (deasserted)
    RESETDONE = 0 (deasserted)
which means the transceiver PLL frequency is not within the predetermined tolerance. Is this problem related to the PCIe Jitter Attenuator I am using on the board to derive 125MHz from 100MHz system Clock.
    Thanks & Regards

  • SOLVED - BIOS UPDATE "SYSTEM DOES NOT CONTAIN the NECESSARY WMI SUPPORT for this VERSION of HPQflash

If you get infamous error when updating HP Portables (laptops/notebooks/ netbooks) BIOS within Windows:
"SYSTEM DOES NOT CONTAIN THE NECESSARY WMI SUPPORT FOR THIS VERSION OF HPQFLASH":
I am posting a solution found for own business laptop (HP 8540W & 8760W) so WebSearch engines index/register it in a few days - future sufferers come here and get a SOLUTION, finally.  Disreagrd previous "experts" advises, they don't work 100% & pity on TechSupport folks who get HP paychecks yet don't know products their co. designs/manufactures (on deep Technical level):
Below is a SOLUTION (WORKING) !
Go into Services (Run "services.msc" or get there thru ControlPanel-->AdminTools-->), find following 2 services ==> make sure they're running, chances are they're NOT (as in my case I keep them disabled unless need running):
    1) "HP Software Framework"
    2) "HP Service" [no typo - a real plain name]
If not running, set Properties-->Manual and click "Start", make sure both are running.
Rerun BIOS updater, choose option for "Within Windows" or something to that effect (using HPQ/ROMpaq updater), rather than "create USB BootDisk on Key", this time it should work without the hassle of a BootDisk creation.
Should work from within Windows environment.
    Notes:
    a) Likely only one (1) service is responsible - namely "HP Software Framework" for HPQ Updater to fail, but doesn't hurt to reenable/restart both services.
I in fact am responding to other customers who elect to Update BIOS within Windows, perhaps oldfashioned but to me Boot Updater is more natural & always works regardless of WMI Support.
    b) After done, don't forget:
*) Recheck BIOS settings - update may've added new and/or changed old, so rescan tobe sure.
**) Go BACK into Windows-->Services.msc & redisable both aforementioned Services if were originally disabled; or you're a computer Pro, you know what you're doing & like me keep all HP services disabled.  The ones we got on EliteBook 8760W are pests consuming system resources, you just enable "Software Framework" when occasional issues emerge with HP softupdate (typically no issues) & redisable after use, rest of services are bloatware - some attempt to overrun Windows Wireless console, some seekout HP Networked printers (Ethernet, Wireless, but not USB), some do this & that - I study/know which one does what and decided to disable all. This is called a "minimalist" philosophy & turns your machine into a fast beast, I recently sold a very obsolete 4-year laptop which however handles 3DMCAD & complex designs/simulations, better new machines out fo a store, as new machines are loaded w/bloatware chocking down resources.
BUT nobody is requiring you to disable anything though.
The solution merely states the fact:
These 2 (or 1) services when not running halt BIOS Update "within Windows" (you can still run "BootDisk option", however, if preferred).
Simply restartung them solves your problem.  Usually
Ya'll have a good day and enjoy!
    ===========
    BELOW ARE IMPORTANT WARNINGS:
    1) IF YOUR BIOS UPDATE STILL FAILS, SOME OTHER PIECE IN WMI SUPPORT IS MISSING - IN MY CASE WAS THESE 2 SERVICES, BUT THERE'S REMOTE POSSIBILITY SOMETHING ELSE MIGHT BLOCK UPDATER.  DON'T WASTE TIME & CHOOSE "USB/BootDisk" options instead
    2) Once BIOS updater does its job, will ask to auto-restart - let it go on & complete, it will self-shutdown (click "Next" to skip 60-second timer), then do NOT turn it on manually!, wait - it'll turn on by itself in 15 seconds, let it boot into Windows, you're done!
    3) WARNING: close other apps before proceeding, be 100% sure your ACpower won't be interrupted or better yet - make sure battery is in/charged (so if ACpower accidentally disconnects, you're autoswitched onto battery) b/c power loss may result in severe damage to internal hardware.  In the old days it'd result in fatal damage, these days powerloss would still result in a major repair (ROM chip corruption).
So to summarize: those 2 services I specified, are often responsible for whether HPQ/ROMpaq will or won't run.
Other causes possible, but I've not witnessed; and if so - choose BootDisk option.

  • 990FXA-GD80 V2 - can't enter BIOS setup

This board has mostly been working fine. I have a FX-8150 in it, and I switched out the fan for a Coolermaster. Now, it boots, but when I try to enter BIOS setup, it hangs on "Starting setup..." (or something like that) at the bottom of the screen.
I have tried clearing the CMOS (including unplugging) a couple times. Not sure what else to try...

Quote from: flobelix on 21-June-13, 03:30:41
Try with the board outside case on a non conductive surface and basic setup (one mem stick, cpu/cooler, psu, vga). Remove all drives and USB devices.
That worked. Thank you. I am able to enter the BIOS setup. But will it still work in the case?
EDIT: I did some searching and this is probably a case shorting. I noticed that one of the brass standoffs had come loose and was still attached to the screw when I took it out. I'm guessing that's what caused the short. I'll be more careful with the standoffs and see if that helps. Thanks for your help.

  • New system does not boot properly

I just set up a new system with:
     a MS-6728 Neo2 FIS2R Mobo,
    1gb Geil PC-3500 RAM (2x512),
    2.6C proc.
2 Maxtor 120gb IDE drives RAID 0 with the onboard promise controller.
    Lite-On DVD burner
    ATI radeon 9800 video card
Enermax 300 watt power supply with:
    3.3v - 28amp
    5v - 30amp
    12v 22amp
    170watt total 3.3/5 combined
My problem is that my system NEVER boots up normally.  It always freezes in the bios startup.  The D-bracket stops at almost every possible combination of led's, which according to the manual the problems were:  Testing RTC, Initialize Video interface, Testing memory, Initializing floppy controller, Memory detection, Decompressing bios to ram, possibly more.  Sometimes I also just get beeping, either a continuous beep or 8 beeps.  A few times it would display the bios startup screen, but halfway down would be gibberish characters and would be locked up.  When I then turn the computer off then on again, the bios is reset at least somewhat(i know because I usually disable the full screen image on startup) and says memory timings are too tight, and I have the choice to enter bios or hit any key to automatically fix things.  If I hit any key it will boot up ok.  However when I restart/turn off the computer, the next time it again does not boot.  I tried upping the ram voltages from 2.5-2.9v, and that seems to stay that way in the bios, even when it resets itself.  Everything else is set to auto/slow.  If I try to manually adjust the memory timings, even to the slowest possible settings, it does not boot, and I must turn it on/off a few times till the bios resets again, with the boot process stopping at one of the possiblilitys mentioned above.    Using the info tab on speedfan, I got the memory info, and it displayed the voltage at 2.5v, not sure what that means but it is strange.
    What I have already attempted:
I sent back the ram and got a new set, which hasn't changed anything.  The first time the other ram failed memtest, this time it passed(for about 2 hrs).  So I don't think its the ram.
I borrowed an antec truepower 430w powersupply, which had no effect.
I went back to bios version 1.3 from 1.9, which also seems to have no effect.
I was hoping to overclock the system a bit and enable performance mode etc etc, but now I'll be happy to just not have to go through a song and dance everytime I restart the computer.  This is only the second computer I have built from scratch, and the first with raid, but that seemed to all go ok.  Please help me diagnose the problem!

I too am having problems with my system.
    865PE Neo2-FIS2R
    2 Maxtor 120GB S-ATA drives, RAID 0, Promise
    2 512MB Geil Ultra CL2-3-3-6
    HP CD-RW
What IDE settings are you using?
    E.g...Native? P-ATA Only...all of those settings
For me...sometimes XP will install and boot...but eventually system is unstable and XP crashes and corrupts itself...Event Manager errors different each time
Someone mentioned problems with Maxtor and AMI BIOS...anything I should keep in mind?
Sorry about all the different questions.  I'm sure exactly where my problem lies.  MSI thinks it may be my memory AND/OR on-board IDE controller since I can't get the on-board Intel RAID setup to consistently "see" and setup my RAID drives...even when it has worked...XP doesn't like the Intel configured RAID drives.  Also tried just one S-ATA drive through on-board Intel and Promise.  Next I will try a plain old IDE Hard Drive...no S-ATA...and make sure my memory passes memtest86+ testing.
Any other gems you can offer for this config???  Thanks.

  • Reset Password - System does not boot from DVD

    My System: Macbook Pro - 2Ghz Intel Core Duo - OS X - 10.6.8
    Hi everyone,
i forgot my password. So i want to boot from install DVD to reset the password. Unfortunately my macbook pro does not boot from DVD (10.6.3).
I press c all the time...but sometimes the macbook pro throws the DVD out...and sometimes nothing happens.
The DVD drive is working fine...
    Any other idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    Fabian

So when you boot holding option it shows a padlock with a password field? Is that correct?
In that case we're talking about the firmware password, which you can't reset via the install disk. There is only one way to do this, I'm not certain if one is allowed to divulge that information publicly - might want to try googling "reset firmware password"

  • Z87-G43, can't enter the BIOS Setup, system is not running

    Hi everyone,
I was working with my pc for about 2 months. Since the very first day i had few problems with mobo but now i can't even run the system and enter the bios. First of all, i had problem with running the system after disabled the MSI logo. I had to enebled it again, because it was the only way to turn on PC (bios stopped at the screen with black screen and a2 code) but it was about 1 month ago. I also remember that from the very beginning option "Hardware Monitor" wasn't working, i mean bios was freezing too and i had to restart PC. Furthermore i have noticed that after choosing language to Polish, few more options in "Settings" appeared, but after switching language back to english they were gone. Unfortunately i can't say now, which one it was because now i got the biggest problem...
BIOS is not running at all. I mean, it all stops with A2 code in right bottom corner of the screen. I can't even enter the bios setup. It shows "Setup is preparing to start" or something like that, but it doesn't run... Can't do nothing atm. BIOS version was the latest - 1.6 . It all started to happening when i had entered to option in bios with disabling or enabling MSI logo, i didn't choose nothing, it freezed, i have resterted PC, and now i nothing is running...  Btw sometimes, i coudn't run the system and bios was freezeing also, if my TL-WN722N wasn't connected to USB port in front case's panel. But now, whenever Tp-LINK is connected or not, it's not running...

A2 is IDE detect <--- that is a HDD/SSD problem or its cable (try a different one)
if the above doesn't work try to foll0w >>Clear CMOS Guide<< do that to reset the BIOS to defaults with power cord removed from your PSU!
after performing the above steps make sure you enter BIOS and reset the SATA mode (AHCI/IDE/RAID to what you installed your os at) and boot order to your SSD first!
Ye that's the reason, I have a new brand 1tb sata 3 where I installed the windows, but the old 320gb sata 2 is causing the same error, so I have to remove the cables from the sata 2 hdd, than the pc boots ok. I shutdown & reatach the old drive & evrething works untill the PC enters stand by again.

  • Bios update hung up, now system does not boot

    Hi,
I just got my new system 2 says ago and installed a win 8.1 on it. My pc froze at random so I checked the website and saw that there was a bios update saying windows 8 users should update.
I downloaded the file, ran it and it hung up in the middle, I left it for about an hour and it was still stuck there...I reset the pc and boom, it wont boot up. It just gives 2 consecutive beeps every 5-10 seconds or so. Is my mobo dead?  Please help! I JUST bought this case...
    EDIT:
Sorry I was so upset that I even forgot to mention my mobo model:
    Mobo: 990FXA-GD80
    Bios version: I don't know!
    CPU: AMD 8350
    PSU: 630 thermaltake
    HDD: 1 TB seagate
    RAM: 8 gb kingstone
    VGA: Sapphire 280X

msi have been told about Live update BIOS Updates being bad many times but they keep it in  !
    you have 3 options!
1: have a shop that can do SPI BIOS flashes to direct flash the BIOS chip to revive the board!
2: RMA it to MSI for them to re-flash the board!
    3: get a new board!
1+2 or the cheapest routes to take! 3 is more expensive!
(DO NOT USE LIVE UPDATE its dangerous as it does BIOS flashes in a uncontrolled environment (Windows) as there is other data and processes active) <-- if you do use live update just use the download function only and perform BIOS flashes in M-Flash, DOS or using the forum flasher as there much safer!

  • Single-User Mode Copying Files/System Does not Boot Past Apple Logo Screen

I have a Macbook 2.0GHZ, 2GB RAM, that recently tried to download a secuirty and keynot update. Following the download the system will no longer boot past the Apple Logo Screen with the spinning wheel. I do not have access to a OS disk yet or to a firewire cable either. I've have seen posts from others that describe how to use traget disk mode to reinstall the secuirty update manually and then they can boot their computer. Safe mode will not work. I did boot into single-user mode and run the disk utility there and it says my HD is OK. Since I do not have a firewire or an OS Disk, I am wondering if there is a way to copy those files i need to a USB pen stick then install them onto the computer via single-user mode, considering this is the only way I can boot and manipulate the machine at this time. If this is not possible please let me know so I can find a way to scrounge up a firewire cable or disk. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
    Ted K

Thanks to Limnos and BDAqua I know you guys have helped others with these kind of problems from the other posts I read. I just want to list what I did exactly in case anyone wants to try to do this with a usb drive or does not have access to a boot disk or firewire cable.
1: Install security update on a pen drive
2: Boot in single user mode, CMD-S on startup
    3: /sbin/mount -uw /
4: mkdir /Volumes/usb (usb can be any name, name of usb drive or anything you want)
5: ls /dev (you need to get the drive listing for the usb drive to mount it appropriately, it should be disk#s# but this is close to what the HD and Cd drives are listed as so you may need to list once before you put the usb stick in and once ater. I had issues inserting the usb drive in single-user mode and it would freeze up the root drive)
6: /sbin/mount_msdos /dev/disk1s1 /Volumes/usb (this mounts the usb drive, i had to use msdos because of how my usb drive was formatted, you may need to check your usb drive format, hfs is the apple format for usb drives but it did not work for me)
7: cp /Volumes/usb/SecUpd2009-001Intel.dmg (this copies the files from the usb drive to the root drivel, at this point you no longer need the usb drive)
8: hdiutil mount /SecUpd2009-001Intel.dmg (this mounts the disk image)
9: cd /Volumes/"Security Update 2009-001" (after i mounted the image this is how it appeared in the Volumes directory, you might need to do ls /Volumes to get the name, the quotes are important to get the whole file directory changed)
10: installer -pkg SecUpd2009-001Intel.pkg -target / (this installs the acutal update, i used the SecUpd2009-001Intel.pkg and it worked though I think you might be able to use "Security Update 2009-001" with quotes as well.)
    11: reboot
i hope this helps anyone looking to do this. Thanks again to those who helpes and all the other posts that had information that helped me identify and then fix my issue! I still love my mac.

    Hi all,
i was hoping someone may be able to help me out with a problem i have with my Satellite P100-160.
I was using it the other night without power connected when my battery ran out and it shut down.
When i re-connected the power and switched it on i got the usual message asking if i wanted to re-start as normal which i did.
Upon doing this i got the icon in the bottom right corner telling me the system was looking to install a new driver for mass storage device.
It could not find it and i have not added or taken anything away from my system.
When i shut it down and went to re-start it next time i got a message on boot screen along the lines of:

i can get into setup but when i resume the system just hangs and all hard drive activity stops. i have managed to get it to boot successfully once but no more, cant get into safe mode or anything. when i took it to my local computer shop the guy there looked at the error and said it is broken, the motherboard has gone and there is nothing i can do with it. im quite disappointed as the laptop is only 2 years old and i would have thought it would last longer than that.
So my question s are is the guy right, is it broken or is there something that can be done with it? if it is broken can i access the contents of my hard drive with another laptop (the shop guy said something about using a hard drive caddy and using it as an external hard drive??
thanks in advance for any advice

Well it would certainly seem my laptop is a gonna, plenty of views but no solution. Must say from
browsing this forum Toshiba laptops definitely have their fair share of problems, mine suffered from
the broken cover mentioned in another thread but i did not think it was such a widespread problem. It has certainly put me off opting for a Toshiba as my replacement.

  • After updating the system does not boot anymore!

I made an usual update with 'pacman -Syu' and since I saw a kernel update I rebooted...
After reboot the lilo menu appears, it autoselects arch after 2 seconds, it appears
    boot:
    loading arch........................... .................................
nothing more. No errors, no messages at all!
It is the same also using the fallback.
What happened? Can I do something or I have to reinstall arch from zero?
    edit: typo
edit2: it can be related to the fact the I have /boot partition and lilo in different disks?

I see, so now I have to start the machine with the arch CD. Mount the drives, chroot the directory where I mounted and starting lilo should solve.
    Thanks everyone.
    edit: it worked! Thanks everyone.
