Can't enter password after sleep

When I put my powerbook to sleep by closing the lid while playing a game (eg Civ 3) and then wake it (open the lid/ press space) I can't enter a password in the password field as it doesn't accept any key presses (even after clicking on the field). I was going to telnet in but the machine goes back to sleep too quickly. Is this a known issue with a workaround (I don't want to turn off the password as I take it on the train and I have bank details on it).
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the same problem, but as nobody else has replied to your post I am assuming that it is not very common. For me, it has only just started and after a bit of investigation I have found that this problem only arises when running my Powerbook G4 on mains power without the battery installed. Once the battery is fitted (still running on mains power) I can then enter the password as usual. I had been running the G4 without the battery since the latest battery recall.
When the problem arose I find that by clicking the mouse within the User Name field (at the end of my name) and then pressing the tab key, to move the cursor into the password field, allowed the password to be entered. Sometimes I had to do this several times before the key presses were accepted and the password could be entered.

  • Must re-enter password after sleeping; but then works okay; what can I do?r

I see a lot of stuff on the boards about the signal dropping. Ours doesn't do that but we find that we regualarly must re-enter the password, or sometimes just re-connect manually even though the password is there.
I've deleted some of the "preferences" files to start over. I've also deleted the keychain files to make sure there are no duplicates. Maybe I'm overlooking something. I've also changed channels on our time machine to give that a shot. No fix with any of these options.
This is a brand new macbook so I would hope everything is working as intended. I'm running out of options...and my wife is frustrated! Ha.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

Try opening Network preferences, click Airport in the pane on the left. Click the Advanced button. Highlight your network name if it isn't already by clicking it. Click the "pencil" button. Enter your password there and click Add.
See if that corrects your problem. Not having a search function right now on the forums is a little frustrating because you can almost always find answers that way. I've never had your specific problem before so I'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants here. If this doesn't help you might try posting the same question in the Airport or Time Capsule forums.

  • How can I require a password to change the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting

My son has a habit of disabling the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting whenever my wife lets him play a game on her account.  I notice every other setting on the "Security & Privacy -> General" tab is protected by the lock on the lower left corner.  I've never understood why this one is not.  Is there any way that I can get that setting to also be controlled by the lock?

Because that setting is specific to the account currently logged in and doesn't potentially affect any others or the system itself, which is the level in general at which administrator or root access is required.

  • Yosemite server Profile manager how setup time for password after sleep

    Hi,
In Profile Manager in Setup & Privacy is possibility setup password after sleep, but I need setup time period. Is it possible? Because when I push this profile it prevent users to setup this period and when i remove this profile (whole payload for Security & Privacy) it still prevent users to change this two setting.

    Hi CodyCodes,
Just discovered the same issue today as well.  Further complicating things, the screensaver timeout setting in Login Window doesn't apply to Profile Manager clients no matter what the setting.  This was reproduced and confirmed by the Apple Tech I was working with.  He's submitted the bug to their engineering staff.  I requested that he ask them why there is no setting for password on sleep or screensaver.  Hopefully this is resolved soon, as this feature is 99% of the reason we're implementing Profile Manager to begin with.
    Cheers

  • Why do I get sent to the User Login screen to enter my password after sleep?

    Hi,
On OSX Lion, 10.7.4. I recently had to reinstall the OS on a new hard drive in my iMac and now have an issue with it that I never had before.
After prolonged periods of sleep (I haven't determined what the minimum length is before this will happen), when I come to wake the computer it shows me the User Login screen. Under my user icon is an orange checkmark, presumably to show that I am the user logged in. Otherwise it is exactly the same as the User Login screen one gets when the computer boots up. I select my user icon and enter my password and the computer unlocks.
I haven't got this set up anywhere, that I know of. I don't have the 'Security & Privacy - Require password for sleep and screen saver' option checked, never have. If I do turn that on just to check, it's a very different password screen, a little popup window in the centre of the dimmed screen.
How do I turn this feature off?
    Thanks,
    Owen

Sounds like you may have deleted something you shouldn't have. Boot to an OS X DVD or a bootable backup, and using Disk Utility, do a repair disk, and while there repair permissions. Disconnect any peripherals, and reboot. If you get the same startup behavior, do a safe boot, by holding the shift key down when booting. If that works, try a normal boot. If neither step helps, you may need to relaod your operating system.

  • Slow to allow password after sleep

Ever since the Power Nap update, my MBA lights up instantly after sleep and the password box is already on screen, but then it takes about 30s before I can enter my password. I can't enter my password beforehand, the keystrokes won't be buffered.
Before, it used to take a while before the password box showed and it accepted input, but I could already type my password and most of the time it would buffer it.
    Is anybody else experiencing this?

I have noticed that when I wake the MBA from sleep with power adapter, it's wonderfully fast, and when I wake it from sleep with battery, it's actually turning out to be about the same speed as before, but I have the enticing login dialog not taking my keystrokes .
Before it could take 5-10s but also sometimes 30s. Perhaps I was unlucky the last few times.
I will turn on Power Nap on battery and see if that improves things.

  • Password after sleep but not when starting?

I have set the option to require a password immediately after sleep or screen saver begins, and that works fine. Waking from sleep requires a password. However, if I shut down the computer and then start up again, I'm not required to enter a password. Can't seem to locate the settings to require a password in that situation.Any suggestions?

That's under users in system preferences. Unlock if necessary and look under Login Options -> Automatic Login.

  • Ask for password after sleep but not after screen saver

Hi guys!! I have been using a mid 2009 Macbook pro since mid 2009 and obviously am thoroughly satisfied!! I have OS 10.7.4 Lion.
A small glitch that has been nagging me lately is that I have my screensaver set to on before my book goes to sleep. But I don't want it to ask for a password after it comes back from the screensaver. I want it to ask for password only when it comes back from sleep coz I don't shut the system down more than once a month, so only flip the screen shut when my day ends.
So essentially is there a way I can make it as for a password ONLY after it wakes from sleep and NOT after screensaver?

I'm not entirely in love w/ the idea of having to move all my data over to the other account. I might just deal w/ not having the screen saver ask for the pass. One other bit of info that may be helpful: This is the second time having this problem. The first time, it got fixed after the most recent intel osx update. I figured that apple had found a bug and fixed it. Then, w/o shuting down my comp, it failed to ask again. Is there any applications that could be messing this up? Any widgets that might do it?? If not, is there any apps that can switch all my pics/movies, etc over to the other account?

  • ITouch stuck in "iPod is Disabled" mode and I can not enter password, How do I correct this?

    Hello and good day,
To who ever can assist me...
My little sister recently experienced the feeling of having her iTouch stolen from her @ school. Since the incident occured, two of her best friends located her iTouch and returned it back to my sister. When my sister attempted to turn the device on, she noticed that the screen that appeared showed her wallpaper, (which was a picture of herself) and the red box message at the top of the screen that indicated "iPod is Disabled"(below that statement states) "connect to iTunes"
So in seeing this message she connected the device to the family laptop. She proceed to open the iTunes program. Once the program was opened, she waited for the iTunes to read her iTouch. Once iTunes attempted to read the device the following error message appeared within iTunes stating:
"iTunes could not connect to the iPod "Delilah's iPod"because it is locked with a password. You must enteryour passcodeon the iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
With that error message coming up, the question then came to be, how do I enter my password if the Touch does not provide me that option to do so? The Touch is stuck in this "Disabled" mode and the screen that appears does not present option of entering password or anythihng for that matter.
With this issue, is there anyone out there that has experience this touble? Is there a solution, and if yes, could you please guide and advise us on what action to take? Unfortunatley, my sisters warrenty has expired. So i know that if the issue requires for us to take it in for repair that we may have to pay for the repairs services, but it would be worth it if I can see that there is or is not an answer for this problem.
Thank you very much for you time! =)
    Sincerely,
    Jefferson K. Tover

  • Can't enter password for 5 million minutes (malfunction)

I have an ipod touch I have had for over 2 years. One day it just pops up that I have to wait over 4 million minutes before I can even enter my password to open it. I realize that it is a security thing, but it is a malfunction in my ipod. Since Apple doesnt give a crap because their warranties are so short, they say that the only thing I can do is restore it, which will erase pictures along with tons of songs I have downloaded that I will have to repay for since you can only download once. The computer it is backed up on is 2000 miles away. I know what my password is... Is there a way to get this bypassed so that I can enter my password before waiting 5 million minutes to use it again?

    Welcome to the discussions,
according to this article, the only thing you could try is this:
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced to the iPhone or iPod touch, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode but your data will not be present.

  • IPhone Crashed-Says Restore Needed-Can't Enter Password to Restore!

Earlier today while using my iPhone with Telenav, it suddenly just quit working! It felt hot and wouldn't come back on for a few mins. When it did come back on, it said Restore needed. However, when I connect iPhone to computer, iTunes cannot connect because of password!!! iPhone will NOT allow me to enter password! Shows iTunes or iPod Screen on phone and will only allow me to make emergency call! This phone is my life!!! My whole life is INSIDE this one! Calendar, numbers, documents etc!!!! I feel lost! How can I restore when I cannot enter password to connect?? HELP PLEASE!! It is the first of the 3GS phones and have NEVER had a minutes problem until now and it is nearl 4 years old I think! Has 32GB.

Thanks - I tried that just now. Didn't work. The passcode prevents the phone from being accessed. I have no idea what the guy used when he did it before but it was like magic.. there was a green button, he clicked it, the password screen went away and the iPhone home screen just popped up like nothing - I wish I could figure this out. If this program could override the password it would be absolutely perfect. Any other suggestions?

  • Iphone is disabled and old will allow emergency phone calls, how can I enter password

iphone is disables and will only allow emergency phone calls, how can I enter a password to unlock it?

Just restore it by putting the phone into DFU mode. You will loose every thing but it will be back to normal pal
Press and hold power and home button together for 10 seconds by connecting it to cable, leave the power button but keep holding the home button for 30 seconds and it will go into DFU mode. Open Itunes and just perform a restore or update

  • Can't enter password?

Okay, so my password is one of the accents. To enter it, you hold down a letter and the letters with accents pop up. I know, stupid idea, but no one ever guesses it. Yesterday, my friend disabled it for a joke, and so I waited for it to recover the full minute, and now I can't enter my password. I kept trying and now I've just stopped because the last time it disabled it was for an hour. How do I fix this?  Now I can"t even access my alarm clock or anything. It's the iPod 5.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
