Can't Erase Damaged SD Card

A Few months ago I bought an micro sd card with an adaptor and filmed a movie on it. About a month ago it became unreadable, presumable from removing it without ejecting it. Now the card doesnt seem to show up on card recovery software. it shows up on the disk utility and I tried erasing it so I could recover files later. during erasing, the disk utility gets stuck in the partitioning phase and ETA increases rather than decreases. Is it at at all possible to do anything with this? I will take it to a technician if need be

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I think my Macbook Pro has been acting strangely since the last update of Mac OS X.
I don't wanna use a micro sd card adapter if my computer ALREADY has a micro sd card reader!
Fix it, Apple!!

  • HT1338 HOW can I erase an SD card from my computer?

HOW CAN I erase an SD card when in my computer after uploading what I wanted  to save to computer?

Roger: That is a perfect description of how to properly and successfully eject or unmount an SD card, but I think the question is not that, but rather how to ERASE the files on the SD card, prior to ejection.
Freddied: I don't have a lot of experience with this, but I think it's possible to treat an SD card exactly as you would any other attached external drive. Thus, to erase what's on it, the steps I would take are this:
    1. Prior to putting the SD card in, make sure your computer's existing Trash is empty. If it isn't currently empty, then empty it.
    2. Put the SD card in.
    3. Double click its icon to see a window of its contents.
    4. Most likely (if the card is full of pictures from a camera) the files you want to erase are buried within various folders in a hierarchy created by the camera's OS. Burrow through the folders until you find the files you want to erase.
    5. Drag the unwanted files to the Trash icon on your Dock or desktop, or alternately highlight them and hit Command-Delete.
    6. Once you have found and thrown away all unwanted files, then choose "Empty Trash" from the Finder menu.
    7. THEN follow the ejection procedure described by Roger above.
NOTE: It's probably not a good idea to just Trash and Erase everything on the SD card, because the files and folders on it are part of the hierarchy put there by the camera's OS, and if you mess it up, you'll likely have to reformat the card in your camera again.
Also NOTE: It's actually preferable to erase pictures off an SD card within the camera, not on your computer. What I do in your situation is to NOT erase files from the SD card while it is plugged into my computer, but rather later when it's back in the camera, using the camera's menus and whatever method that model uses to erase photos.
If, however, you are storing non-image non-camera files on your SD card, then use the steps I outlined above.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1245 My phone has all my contacts. they were transfered at the sprint store from my old phones memory card. But some are doubled. how can i erase them. there are about 200 i need to erase

and i can then erase and add contancts?

I admit, I did screw up for not checking. I was just soo steamed with the customer support and going back and forth with phone and offices in Charleston, SC and here in VA, I was just getting frustrated with this phone that i had for 1 week, and couple with the craziness of the hustle trafflc of customers during the holidays.
Just a lot of crazy here, but my new phone is in, I had to get the service center to  reset things, as the backup synch wasn't right, and I will get a new card.
I just wanted a new phone that worked, and oversaw the issues.  This isn't the first time I had to return a phone, but last time, it was a slower pace, and no issues, and I  reminded myself to get the card out.
Got 99% of my contacts. Just wishing there was somehow to track the phone, and have hope, but it was nothing that was life critical.. And cost of new cars is cheap.
Chalk up to "pay attention"....  but oh, the frustration of 6 visits to the stores in 32 days I had that phone.  Ahh!
Happy New Year, and thanks for the replies....

You will need data recovery software. See this post:

And please send feedback to Apple: This is a bug. Only the imported photos should have been deleted, not all photos on the card. You can use this form: Apple - iPhoto - Feedback

    The whole issue is really mysterious. In my opinion there are two options;
Either your have used and tried to install a wrong graphic driver or there is something wrong with your GPU chip.
Are you 100% that you tired an right graphic driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
If yes, then I recommend contacting the ASP in your country because this could be really an hardware issue.
Furthermore I found you second posting in other thread

and I think more and more that this must be an graphic card issue.

It sounds like a runaway process is filling up your volume.
Boot in safe mode. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Use a tool such as the one linked below to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space:

  • My Droid Erased My SD Card

My Droid phone erased my entire SD card this evening. It was on the kitchen counter away from water, magnets, or anything else that I know aggravates this phone.
As background, I tried rebooting the phone three times and I took the SD card (and battery of course) out of the phone and reinstalled them. When the phone starts up it reads "preparing the SD card". Then, it reads "SD card is safe to remove". After that, it reads "blank SD card". After all of that I get a notification icon. When I open the notifications, it reads "Blank SD card. SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem." I cleared that and then went to the settings / SD card & phone storage. Total space is "unavailable", available space is "unavailable", and Mount SD card reads "mount SD card". When I click that it starts the whole process over again and I get the same result.
Can anybody help me as to why this happened and what I can do to prevent it from happening again?

Sounds like the sd card got corrupted somehow. I would suggest turning the phone off and taking the sd card out. Then with a card reader on a computer attempt to read the card. If you can read it, copy the contents of the card to a folder on your computer. When the copying is completed, format the sd card to a fat32 format. You can also run a error check on the card. Before or after the format shouldn't matter. Then when that's all done, copy the contents of the folder you stored the original sd card information back onto the card. Just to be on the safe side you can copy that information a couple of folders at a time.
If you can't read the sd card at first with a card reader, you will have to format the card. The only way to the information in that case is to recover the information using a recovery program.
    Hope that helps.

    Hello
I would like to ask I have a problem with the Iphone 3gs 32 g
I don install the ios 6.0 and now I can not activate the sim card .... I do not even know what's centenary advise me thank you

Did you already try the suggestions from this article?
    Symptoms
In certain situations, iPhone may present one of the following symptoms:
"Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently.
Status bar displays "No Service", "No SIM" or "Searching" in a location with good network coverage.
    Resolution
If you encounter any of the above symptoms on your iPhone, try these steps to attempt to resolve the issue:
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Check for a carrier settings update. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
Remove the SIM Card and verify that it is a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it is not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    Restore the iPhone.

  • How can I erase one sms from my Nokia 9300i?

I can not erase one sms from my inbox , I have to delete all the texts. Help me, what should I do?

Hi, olgadapolga. For the SMS that you do not want to lose, you can create a backup on your PC using this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ph/mobile/support/nokia-suite-compatibility/. Note that this link will work regardless of your location. About transferring SMS to another phone, see if there's an option on your Nokia 6303 to create a backup on an SD card. If so, you can proceed with backing up your SMS. Try inserting the SD card in your other phone and check for restoring option. However, if restore is not available there is a possibility that the other phone doesn't support the backed up messages file format. For added assistance, feel free to post it here.

  • Slightly damaged airport card, unstable connection, & malloc errors? Fixes?

    Hello!
I've got a 500 mhz iMac G3, running 10.3.9 with 256 MB of ram - and may add more soon. It has an original Airport card installed, via the Airport adapter. This card has a dent in one of the sides, but seems to power on fine.
Here's the problem: if I click on the Airport symbol in the menu bar, the iMac can see our home network with the Airport card installed - so I know the card is at least working in this regard. If I select the network and enter the WEP key, it sits there for a moment before giving a "There was an error connecting to the AirPort network * SSID *." box. Clicking "Try again" hasn't helped. Interestingly, the "Console.log" log shows a list of malloc errors:
"* malloc[@@@]: error for object 0x3----0: Double free", where the dashes are various hex values, and the @@@ differs by application: Attempting to connect via Internet Connect gives a @@@ of 385, while attempting to connect via Network Setup Assistant gives a @@@ of 329, and attempting to connect via the airport menu bar icon gives a @@@ of 208. These errors seem to appear when I type the WEP key in.
To see if the airport card was broadcasting, I tried to setup a computer-to-computer network from the iMac, then connect to it from my G4 (400mhz, Tiger, 1.5 GB RAM, Original Airport card). The network initialized OK, but the G4 could not see it. Entering the SSID manually into the Internet Connect application still gave a "There was an error connecting to SSID" box. I then noticed that the iMac kept "disconnecting" and "reconnecting" to its own network every 10 seconds or so, as if the Airport card kept resetting. I also tried creating a network on the G4, then connecting to it from the iMac to see if it could join and if the malloc errors kept showing up - it coudn't join or see the network, but there were no malloc errors in the console!
This is the same problem that occurred when I put the card into another old iMac. Therefore, I believe that it's a problem with the individual card, not the system. At the same time, the fact that the memory allocation errors occur when I enter the WEP key - and not at other times - is a little odd. I've assumed that the dent in the card was the problem before, but now I'm beginning to suspect a firmware issue with the card itself.
    So, the questions:
    A. Is there a firmware update for the card?
    B. Is there anything else I can try? I will try to setup an open network to test the card then.
    C. If the damage to the card is the culprit, then the card is useless and must be replaced, correct?
    D. Is there somewhere I can find an original airport card for (well) under the $150 or so you usually find it online? I am aware that they are old and hard to find.
    Thanks a bunch,
    -Dan

See my post about using the WaveLan card out of an old graphite "flying saucer" Airport Base Station. My iMac accepted one as an Airport card. The old ABSes are cheap since they don't work with new releases of OS X any more.

  • HT204384 my iMAC can't read the SD card. Any ideas?

My iMAC can't read the SD card of my Canon camera. I've tried reinserting slowly and quickly and dusting it. My camera can see the pictures on the SD card, which is only two months old. The same thing happened a few months ago. I figured it was an old card and probably damaged so bought a new one but this one has the same problem. my port was checked in store a  couple of months ago too. I am running out of ideas....

How long has it been since you fully formatted the SD in the camera?  I ask because some cameras are very good at messing up the card just enough that while they can read/write to it fine other systems may be confused.  All it takes is a minor firmware glitch.
If you haven't hard formatted the SD in the camera for a while try downloading your pictures by connecting the camera to the iMac via USB.  After the download is complete--and you have verified that it is full and complete--format the SD in the camera, snap a photo, then try connecting the SD directly to the iMac.
Might not work, but worth a try as it's free to do.
Another thing is to make sure that the firmware in your camera is up to date.

  • Can I use the SIM card from an Iphone 4s in a new Iphone 5?

Can I use the SIM card from an Iphone 4s in a new Iphone 5?

Yes you can install your current sim into the mini iPad. You have to cut the current sim to the nano sim. There are cutter available on eBay and amazon. You go to your local best-buy. They have it for sale. Just be carefully to align properly or else you will end damaging your current sim. Any little damage to the current sim will render it unusable.

I have looked thru the Maintenance and Service Guide and cannot find any info regarding the SD card reader specs.
My Camcorder uses an SDXC  64 Gb card. I don't want to put the card into the 17T reader if it can't read the SDXC card since there is a potential for the SDXC card to be damaged by a reader which can't properly access an SDXC card.

    Good Morning mykejb,
As I stated your specifications do not state the exact cards it supports.  I regret that  I am unable to give you a yes or no answer.
If you check around the card reader itself, sometimes on the bottom of the notebook, it will list the supported card types.  If not all I can suggest is try and see.   If it seems if the card is too small for the slot, you may need an adapter for an SDXC card.
Here is a link to SD/SDHC/SDXC Specifications and Compatibility( from scan disk support).  Please note this quote"NOTE: Internal card readers on laptops from 2008 and prior may NOT support SDXC cards. SDXC cards will work in SDHC compatible readers (not SD readers) if the computer OS supports exFAT. For more information on exFat see: Operating Systems that support the exFAT File System"
