Can't erase email on my POP account

Try as I might, I can not delete or trash emails  or see a list of  sent mail.  This is a POP account and I have the same issues on an iPhone 3gs.

When you have mail on your screen, before you try to open mail from your yahoo account, if you click window and connection doctor, for your yahoo accout, does it say 'connection and login to server successful' with a green status? Same for smtp outbound mail?

  • Can't send emails via my pop account.

My iPhone can receive emails from my pop account but not send them. It can send and receive gmail fine. Have checked the smpte and pop info. Wifi is working OK.

Many ISP mail servers are restricted and will not permit mail to be sent that originates from outside their network (which the cellular data network is).
Check with the mail provider to see if you need to use a different SMTP server when using a mobile device.

  • Can send but can't receive email through ATT POP account

My ISP is ATT. Email is through a POP account. I've verified all the settings through the ATT support page and been on the phone with an ATT Mac (dubious) tech. I'm able to send but not receive email. I get no errors when I check mail. It just appears that there's nothing new. I am able to receive through web mail. I deleted my cache as suggested by another user. Any thoughts? Thanks very much.

ISP tells me I will lose messages in all mailboxes - but does this mean all mailboxes that are stored "locally on my macintosh" or just the mail in the inbox, sent and trash associated with that account?
Yes, if it's a POP account all will be lost.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

  • I can't receive emails eith my pop account!!!!

The scree gives me a sign saying load next 25 messages. I hit it and it goes throguh the motions, after is done it says the account is updated but there is no emails in my inbox. My mac is set up the same way and i get all my emails every day, can't seem to do it in the iphone. Please help????
It happens on edge of wifi.
    Thanks!!!!

    Hi Zap...
I totally deleted this mail account and gave up and let the problem sit a week, and last night I was bored on the couch and decided to give it a go and believe i found the problem, at least on my end, and am wondering if it is yours as well...
In your POP account, go into it and check what the authentication settings (push the advanced button on the account's settings in settings) set it to whatever it needs to be on your end (on my end it is 'Password')...then go into the actual mail program and try receiving something...then I want you to go back into the mail account's settings again and check the authentication again - has it changed from what you set it as?

  • Synching emails with a POP account

I am able to receive email on the iPhone, but only if I have not opened it on my computer email. I selected (in iTunes) to sync with the correct email address, but those messages that I already opened do not sync over to the iPhone.
How do I move over all messages in my in-box so both computer and iPhone inbox are synced?

First, to clarify...email messages themselves *do not* sync through iTunes...only the email *account settings* sync. This only needs to be done the first time and then can be unchecked. Email messages are fetched by the phone just as they are from your computer - they don't sync through iTunes.
What's happening is that your computer is pulling the message off the server when you check it there, which makes it unavailable for the iPhone to access...which is in inherent problem with a POP account.
If you'd like to have an exact match between your emai on your computer and iPhone, you should look into an IMAP account. With IMAP, whatever happens on one device, happens on the others...in other words, if you read an email on your iPhone and leave it in your inbox, when you access that account on your computer, the message will be sitting in the inbox, marked as read. If you delete a message from your computer, it will be deleted from the account on the iPhone as well. Unfortunately, this behavior can't be duplicated with a POP account.
    Hope that helps.

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Mail can't send email from 123-reg accounts

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with Mac Mail can’t send email from 123-reg accounts.
I know there is a lot of articles on simular matters and some I have tried out with no luck, others are just speaking a whole other language.
Any help would be greatly recived, here's my situation below:
    Running a iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 on OS X 10.8.3
I’m using 3 accounts on Macs Mail client, one is my iCloud account that is working fine and the other two are my 123-reg accounts that I use for business purposes. I’ve been working like this for a couple of years now and about 6 months ago I upgrade my operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
2 or 3 months ago I randomly got a problem where I was unable to send any emails from my 123-reg account, I could only receive emails. I checked my settings and they were all correct and unchanged so I attempted to delete them and recreate the account but with no such luck.
I then decided to check if it was a problem at 123-regs end and attempted to log into web mail. This worked and was able to both send and receive emails so eliminated that possibility.
I also have these accounts set up on my iPhone, so checked if there was any issues and everything was working fine. I then checked my iphone details and made sure the same was on my desktop and still no such luck.
I’ve tried out some of the articles I’ve found on here (the ones written in plain English) still no results. I’m not very IT illiterate and just wondered if anyone else has got any ideas, whether there is something specific with 123-reg accounts and Mac Mail?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks
I just had another hunt around looking at posts and discovered that it was because I recently changed to BT Infinity and they had a block on.
I didn't even think to question the ISP.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • My new iphone 5 email is synched with my home office computer Outlook email using a POP account, but deleting an email on my computer does not delete it on my phone and vice versa.  Is there any way to get a true synch?.

My new iPhone 5 email is synched with my home office computer Outlook email using a POP account, but deleting an email on my computer does not delete the email on my phone and vice versa.  Is there any way to get a true synch?.

POP does not support synchronization between the server and clients. You will need to use IMAP or Exchange Active Sync if your email provider supports it.

  • I can't forward emails from my hotmail account on my iPad.

Hi there. I'm hoping someone can help me. I can't forward emails from my hotmail account on my iPad. When I try to click on more it won't open up. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

  • I just started using my iphone 5s. I have a problem with new incoming emails from my POP account. Why are they marked as read automatically even though I have not even opened them yet.

I just started using my iphone 5s. I have a problem with new incoming emails from my POP account. Why are they marked as read automatically even though I have not even opened them yet.
At first I thought it might be because I was using simultaneously my old iPhone 4S so it somehow realized the emails where being pushed to another device and the it marked as read, this has nothing to do since I have deleted the email account from the iPhone 4S

Contact the email provider for assistance with their service.

  • Mail 3.6 downloads multiple copies of emails from my pop account

Since I auto-upgraded to Mail 3.6, Mail is downloading multiple copies of email from my pop mail account. This did not happen before and I haven't changed any of the mail settings. I have read discussions about a similar problem with an earlier version of Mail and the solution seemed to be deleting some file linked to Mail so it could be rebuilt, but I can't find such a file on my system that I could try deleting.
It may matter that I am not 'strictly' supposed to be using os x 10.5.8 on my powerbook G4 (according to what is said on the packet).
    Help please!

    @ Tokyodj
Thanks very much for posting this. I was having slightly different issues than the people above - only one of my two POP accounts was being constantly picked up, and I had hundreds of versions of each email... strangely, even after I went to the (Yahoo) account and deleted all the emails out of there. Your solution worked perfectly.
    Thanks again!

  • My Mac Outlook 2011 Stopped Sending Emails for all POP Accounts from Different Providers

I've had this problem before, but this time I am truly dumbfounded. My Outlook 2011 has randomly stopped sending emails, but I can still receive them. This has happened a few times and I normally change the ports/SSL and I can get it to work. But now I am at a loss. I have several email accounts that I manage. One of which is GMAIL, using IMAP, and this is the only account that currently works find receiving and sending. My POP accounts, four of them, all cannot send emails. They can only receive. One of them is with GoDaddy, and the other three are with an Asian company. I can't find any help on this. I've upgraded Office to the latest version. I've even deleted the accounts and added them back in, and I still can't send email. I'm frankly getting exhausted and sick of this type of problem happening. I honestly use this program and my MacBook Air to send clients information...only to find out hours later that a mail never sent because it's been stuck in my <hidden> Outbox in Outlook 2011. This has hurt me now badly on several occassions. Please HELP!

All SMTP servers are set correctly as far as I can tell, the connection doctor says everything is fine, and I removed all my accounts to re-add them.  I added one and tried to send a message--stuck in the outbox--failed.  I added another account and deleted the first one and tried to send a message--stuck in the outbox--failed.  I'm pretty convinced the problem is with Mac's Mail client...I can send email from anywhere I've tried except for Mac's Mail client.  Thanks for the help.

  • Mail hang when getting email from multiple POP accounts

    I'm posting this issue again.
Mail hangs while getting new mail from multiple POP accounts almost every time. When it does, only Force Quit can quit it.
The following DID NOT fix the hang:
    - Reconstructing all mail boxes
    - Exporting, deleting and reimporting all mail boxes
    - Disabling all rules
    - Deleting anti-spam history
    - Deleting all emails from all mail boxes
Testing each POP account individually while putty the other two offline works fine.
I also noticed that sometimes the new mail counter in Inbox displays 2-4 new messages while there is no new ones. Switching boxes/folders and back to Inbox fixes it.
    The POP accounts are:
    One plain text POP
    One secure POP
    One GMail POP
    Can anyone help?

    You’re welcome.
I did try to clear the junk mail preferences
The Junk Mail preferences cannot be “cleared”. What do you mean?
it crashes almost every single time.
It doesn’t crash (i.e. quit unexpectedly). It freezes (i.e. becomes unresponsive), right?
I transfered my data to a Mac Mini. I had the same exact problem on it too!
so it seems it has nothing to do with the OS plugins or the setup I have.
Well, that would depend on what exactly does “I transfered my data” mean...
Try first disabling all the rules in Preferences > Rules AND the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail. If the problem persists, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
