Can't erase photos or events

I was trying to erase a large number of photos and now have several problems: I have three events that I can't delete and that have blank spots inside where the photos should be; they just have dotted lines around them. The thumbnails can still be seen but not the original photos. I tried to rebuild the library with the internal rebuild tools, but no luck. Now when I try to delete these blanks or any other photos either nothing happens or iphoto crashes. Ideas?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Can't Drag Photos Between Events

Having just upgraded to iPhoto 11, I find I can't drag photos between events. The help info seems to be the same as the prior version, but when I select two events, then select a photo and drag it, the photo springs back to it's current location.
Any preferences or techniques I'm missing? Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestions and sorry for the confusion; I misspoke in the sentence you quoted from my last post.
I don't want to drag photos internally within an event, I want to drag them from one event to another.
In prior versions of iPhoto I could do this in Events mode (perhaps Photos mode as well, but I never tried). I opened two or more Events simultaneously, highlighted the photos in one event and dragged and dropped them anywhere inside another. Now, I can only do this by dropping on the event title.
iPhoto 11 help topic "Move photos between events" steps it out. The pertinent points are:
Select two Events: the one you want to move photos from and the one you want to move those photos to.
TIP: Drag your pointer to enclose two Events that are next to one another. To select two Events that aren’t adjacent, click the first Event to select it, and then hold down the Command key as you click the second Event.
Double-click one of the Events.
Both Events open. The photos they contain appear in the window below their Event titles.
Select the photos you want to move, and drag them to the Event you want to add them to.
It doesn't work for me, and I'm wondering what's changed in iPhoto 11, or does my software have a bug? Thanks.

How can you erase a certain event from the iPad2 but keep it in iPhoto?

I have two events that were split up by iPhoto when it synced to my iPad2. Collectively there re about 400 photos in the two events and they were split into over 50 separate events some labeled sequentially as 102IMPRT 103IMPRT....and so on, and otehrs labeled with the original event label. I have not been able to regroup the events. they are still OK as two Events in iPhoto. My latest idea is to try to export the files from iPhoto without the geo and file name to a folder. Erase the events in iPhoto and then reimport them into new events in iPhoto. Then sync to iPad.
Before I did all that I wanted to remove the split events from my iPad. I tried to remove them from the iPad by unchecking the source events but checking all others in iTunes before syncing but that doesn't work probably because the pieces all have different names in the iPad. Maybe unchecking the events just doesn't sync them or make any changes..I thought that if you unchecke the events it would remove them. The real problem probably is that the spit events don't exist in iPhoto.
I did remove them from the iPad once by checking sync with nothing by unchecking iPhoto in iTunes. But that removes the whole library of 10000+ photos. I did that and restored an old library from before the time the events were split (from Time Machine) then resynced with the newest iPhoto and it split the same two events again in pretty much the same way. I got nowhere and it took 4-5 hours to delete and reload the10,000 photos.
Is there any way to remove events from the iPad that the crazy sync is creating, and don' t exist in your iPhoto library or on your iMac and iTunes without destroying the rest of the library of photos on the iPad??

I tried syncing with the sources unchecked so no photos would sync. When it got done it erased all the library photos except the messed up events, they remain on the iPad. The Vacation photos are in two albums, one is called camera roll, and the other improted photos. None of the photos were taken with the iPad camera and should not show up in camera roll.
At this point I am going to restore iPad2 to factory settings and sync from computer not backups and see what happens!

Can't open photos in event

I recently upgraded to mountain lion. Now all my events are visible, but if click on it they say "no photo". All the photos are merged together under "photos" and not in order. How can I get the photos visible back in the events? This coincided with downloading some of my friend's photos from photostream, so maybe that caused the problem?

What does happen?
We really need some details since we can not see your computer - we ONLY have what you tell us to go on

Can't drag photos an event

iPhoto 08 has been loaded and all seems well except for the following
When I try to drag photos around in an event they spring back to their original location. While dragging the number of photos to be draqged (usually 1) is displayed in a red circle.
I have reset each of the three Helvetica fonts as suggested on this forum.
Furthermore when I select View/Sort/Photos, "Manual Drag" and Reset Manual Drag" are dimmed and can't be accessed.
Anyy suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you've opened an event from the Events window then, yes you can't manually sort as in that mode. To sort manually open that particular event while in the Photo mode with Events titles displayed.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Can't find photos in events

Hi! I've tried searching this topic in previous posts, but can't seem to find any information about it.
I use flags on my photos when I want to upload them to online albums b/c it's visually easier for me to see which ones I want to use. I accidentally "created an event from flagged photos" and iPhoto took ALL of my flagged pics form every album and threw them into a separate event. I wasn't able to undo this action to put the pics back into their rightful event albums.
Then I tried to unflag them all thinking they would automatically go back into their original event albums, but no luck there either. I see that they are all still under my Images folder, but how can I restore them back into their events??
I hope someone understands this issue and can help me out. I'm so frustrated!

Well I don't think you can complain about iPhoto taking all your flagged photos and putting them into a nw Event when that's exactly what you told it to do
Apart from manually restoring them, your only other option is to revert to a state prior to your error by using a Time Machine or other back up.

Can I transfer photos in 'Events from my Mac' back to my iMac?

I lost my entire iphoto library and I am not entirely sure how. I have run a few searches on my imac and cannot seem to find the hidden library anywhere. Luckily my library is still appearing on my iPad within a folder called Events from my Mac - any tips as to how I can move these pictures from my ipad back to my Mac please? When I open iPhoto on my Mac I am unable to see these, I can only see these photos on my iPad. Thanks.

I can't export photos from events or library to a memory key

In the past i have been able to select photos and drag them to the memory stick icon but for some reason now, when i try to do this a little white circle with a line through it appears and nothing gets onto the memory stick (this stick has lots of space and wont even take one photo )
any ideas ?

Are you able to drag to a folder on the Desktop? If you can't drag a photo to the desktop open Font Book, locate the Helvetica Neue font. If you find it deactivate and then reactivate it. Now launch iPhoto and try again.
I get that sometimes and it takes closing and relaunching iPhoto to get the photo in question able to be dragged. If a simple relaunching doesn't help do a reboot of the computer.

How can I sync photos from events in iphone 4s to macbook pro?

The hard drive in my macbook pro crashed so I had to get a new hard drive. Unfortunately, all the data in the hard drive, including photos, music, and movies are all gone . All of my files are in my iphone 4s. When I try to sync some of the photos to my new hard drive, it won't sync the photos that I have in the events in my iphone, only in the photo stream. Is there a way I could extract the phots in events? Gladly appreciate the help .

You'll have to purchase 3rd party software if you want to extract them directly from the phone. That or e-mail them to yourself, or set up a new shared photo stream and put the photos you want in that.
The phone is not a backup device. Since the photos came from your computer to begin with, you should have a backup of them in your backup of the computer.
You may want to seriously think about investing in an internal hard drive and turning on Time Machine.

Can I erase photos from my iPhone via iCloud and have them erased on all my connected devices?

I took photos at work, completely forgetting about my iCloud setting, I erased them off of my phone/iCloud this morning. But they may have uploaded to iCloud last night. These are not photos my children need to see

Once they are deleted from iCloud they will be deleted from all devices accessing the photos from iCloud. The exceptions here are a computer (you will need to delete it manually) and the device that took the photo, I am assuming your iPhone 5. There you will need to delete it from your camera roll too.

I can't move photos to events by flagging them

The simplest way to move photos from one event to another is by flagging them, then going to the target event, selecting it, and then going to the menu item 'Move flagged photos to selected event'
But when I do that, nothing at all happens. The photos remain flagged, but don't move.
I have found other ways to move them, but this would be the best, and I am wondering why it doesn't work

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

How can I erase photos from the photo stream album in my iphone?

You cannot delete individual photos from PhotoStream, though you can reset it, effectively deleting all the photos from the server.
PhotoStream is purely a conduit for sending photos taken on one device to all the others automatically. Photos there are deleted after 30 days on the assumption that by then they will have been synced to all devices. There is no access to the photos on the server.
