Can't even load software help needed!

Just got a 5G 30Gb video iPod - only problem is that I can't even get the software to load onto my laptop - it appears to load, but when I look for it, it simply doesnt exist.
Anyone any ideas please?

Interesting - I search for "ITunes" & find loads of files in C\Windows\Downloaded files...
These appear to be setup files - when I click on ITunessetup.exe, I enter the same setup process as from the CD - with the same result - at the end of the setup process the process just seems to stop (nothing on the screen, no new files added anywhere...).
One file entitled ITunes.exe seems to load just iTunes (not Quicktime), but when I try to activate ITunes, I get a message "associated files missing" - or something similar.
nother file Quicktime.exe tries to load Quicktime thru' a wizard - this seems to work until at the last moment there is a message "the wizard was interupted"
I have tried all the above with antivirus both on & disabled.
This is the 1st time I've had anything from Apple - is it normal to have problems which am beginning to suspect are due to non-compatibility with windows - I am on the point of returning the iPod.

You don't need Handbrake for that if it is your own DVD.
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle.
a DVD is in a compresed format called mpeg2, which is standard across all DVDs. This is what is known as a 'final delivery format' and is not suitable for editing. Because is is compressed, a 4.7GB DVD can hold a two hour movie (dual layer DVDs twice that), whereas the DV stream from a video camera, which runs at about 13GB per hour, is not compressed and IS intended for editing.
In other words you have to 'reverse engineer' the DVD back to an uncompressed format in ordfer to edit it. There is a penalty for doing this in terms of slight quality loss, but it is one you can live with.
When you have your DVD as an icon on your desktop, double-click it, and it will open to reveal a TS-Folder containing a number of various files, some called VOB. These are the constituent parts of any video DVD.
When you have downloaded and installed mpegStreamclip, and purchased and installed the Apple mpeg2 plugin, open mpegStreamclip and drag the entire TS Folder into its window. Then using the various menus available to you (just explore them and you will get the hang of it) ask it to convert to DV.
That DV file, which will be many times larger than the original TS Folder, and which can a while to create (be patient - make coffee or prune the roses!) is what you can now import into iMovie for editing etc.
When you have finished doing that, you then have to turn the project back into a DVD.

For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

Firefox crashes on start up how do I get help when I can't even load it

Please can someone help me I am running Mozilla Firefox 7 but have been unable to even get to start it up. Every time I try I get a crash report box pop up but it doesn't tell me anything, it doesn't even have a crash ID. I can't even get it to load in safe mode and I can't even get the Firefox location bar up to submit anything about my crash so I am at a loss at what to try next. I have uninstalled then re-installed but to no avail, please can somebody help me !!?. If you need me to tell you anything else please don't hesitate to ask.

Since a few days we have a lot of crashes with [http://www.trusteer.com/product/trusteer-rapport Trusteer Rapport]. If you have this program, try to disable it and see if that stops the crashing. 
You can stop Rapport using Start Menu > Programs > Trusteer Rapport > Stop Rapport 
You can ask their helpdesk when an updated version of their product will be made available or, if you don't need this software, uninstall it.

If you do not have Rapport, then we need to have a crash report ID. When you send Mozilla a crash report it just puts it in a giant database. We have no way of looking it up without the Report ID. I have no idea what is wrong without looking up the crash report. Please get the Report ID of your latest crash report.

Firefox running fine for a week and now can't even load google! Help please!

I downloaded the latest version of firefox about a week ago. Ran brilliantly and could keep up with my internet gaming habits. After one week, firefox won't even load google! Haven't done anything to upset it that i've noticed. Disabled my firewall and antivirus to see if that helps but no change. Help please!

We are NOT an EDI shop, but have a project to output data to Sales Force.com
Sales Force requests IDOC output - eg. 810 Outbound Invoice.
We will need to do a historical load of Orders/Quotes/Invoices from the past 2 years.
Is there a function module or series of FM's that are used to generate the E2EDKxxxxx type segments?
I have been testing using the IDOC_OUTPUT_INVOIC and IDOC_OUTPUT_ORDRSP FM's, but they generate segments begining with E1EDKxxxxx.
Basicall we have a report program that the user enteres in the date range of Order/Quotes/Invoices they wish to extract, the the program needs to output a flat file (.txt) on the server which is then picked up by Sales Force.com.
Also, is there a way to have in the Partner Profile a generic Partner under the "Type KU" that can be used for all orders/invoices so I don't have to create a KU Partner Type for each and every Sold-To customer we have?
I am very new to EDI so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's very tempting to use an interface for such loads if you anyhow have to create one. However, often the volume alone speaks against interface usage for such scenarios.

Well, the E2* segments basically reflect the external name of the IDoc segment, whereas the function modules you're referring to basically just create an internal version of the IDoc. Once the IDoc framework then passes the IDocs to the partner, the segment names usually (depends on how the IDocs are passed on) get converted to their external name. If there are multiple versions of a segment, then the version number will be appended to the segment name.
Note that IDoc segment definitions are only partially stored in the data dictionary. If you want to see all versions you should always use transaction WE31 to look at segments. There you can also see for example for E1EDK01 the several versions and when you then use in SE37 function module SEGMENT_EXTERNAL_NAME_GET you will see what SAP produces as the external name for segment E1EDK01. This function module is basically the one that handles the segment name translations.
Ignore the comments for subsystem, this is basically an option in SAP to possibly trigger further external tools (e.g. mapping etc.) for handling the outbound IDocs.
Again, the funny thing is that via the WE30 transaction, if i put in INVOIC02 as the Obj. name and see the segments, i can see that E2EDK01 there is a version 005, but if i go to SE11 and put in E2EDK01005 structure line and i get a "not found". We just have up to E2EDK01002.
In the old days SAP used to generate E1, E2 and E3* structures in the data dictionary (SE11). The E1* structure reflected the character type representation of an IDoc segment, whereas the other two (definition and documentation) contained actual references to data elements (e.g. if you used a quantity field). However, in newer releases those dictionary structures (E2* & E3*) are no longer generated, because they're superfluous (meta data defined via WE31 is sufficient).

Most USB features broken after 10.3 update. I can't even reload software.

I just updated to 10.3.2.2226 (from 10.2.1) and now I can't restore my phone, which was wiped in the update process. I've tried both with the Blackberry link and Sachesi, it won't work in either. I've tried 2 different computers too. But not just when trying to restore, I can't side load anything, I can't reload device software... anything other than use the flash drive feature, basically. It is always the same thing, both Blackberry Link and Sachesi. It starts like it is going to work, gets to the 0% loaded screen, then the phone reboots and it disconnects from the computer. I get the "Cannot change name" error when trying to restore, and just a disconnection error for everything else. I even tried to use an autoloader to downgrade back to 10.2.1. That doesn't work either, same thing, it connects to the phone, starts loading, then gives a "This software can't be used on this phone" error and reboots. I'm definitely getting the right autoloader, my phone is an STL100-3. Without any of my contacts or Snap, the phone almost might as well be bricked for me. I don't know what to do. I'd gladly go back to 10.2 if that's what it takes, but I can't even do that.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
So, the one thing you don't say you tried is to use AutoLoader to reload your current OS version. This actually is very important...with 10.3.2, you cannot fall back to 10.3.1 or earlier...you must stay on 10.3.2. This is due to the governmental requirement for a "kill switch", and this exists in 10.3.2 only and not prior versions, and falling back would put BB out of compliance with those regulations...so falling back to earlier is blocked.
So, I suggest you obtain an AutoLoader for your current OS version, and use that to cleanly reload the current OS onto your device. If it still doesn't work, try other 10.3.2 OS AutoLoaders...maybe there is something in the version you installed that is a problem.

Ok I got the Jan software update and well I just know really how to just install it. I red someone's post here but it's just not clear on how to do it. Is there someone that can tell me in a clear way the steps to do it please. I know he said to do a folder called "Mobile Applications" and to put the downloaded file (iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa) in it, so I did it and I put it in the iTunes folder in my "Music" folder, I pressed Sync and no software appear. So I just need help with this please!!!!!!

Cron won't run ioreg, even though I can by hand - ADVANCED UNIX HELP NEEDED

This is driving me crazy. Cron will not run the ioreg command.
I have a script that does the following:

If I run it from the command line I get what I expect: a bunch of data dumped to this log file. If I stick it into cron, however, I only get my login, the first argument to the script and the date. No output from the ioreg command.
I know that cron is really just a wrapper for launchd or something like that and that the issues I am having have to do with the fact that the "user" under which the cron job is running is not the console user. Or something like that. It is all just a bit over my head. But it is certainly driving me completely insane!
Does anyone have any ideas how to make cron actually do something useful? (this is the second time that I have tried to use cron for a script and the second time it refuses to run for what I am guessing are similar reasons).
Any help is (or even just clues are) greatly appreciated.

My machine has been acting really really flaky with the battery and this script will hopefully help me either get a new one or find out if the PMU is the problem.

Macbook Pro not booting after update. ''Disk Utility can't repair disk''. Help needed!

I have recently updated my macbook pro as I had some pending software updates. I left it to do the job over night and the next day I noticed it was not letting me sign in to my account session as usual.
I restarted the computer and ever since then when I boot it, it just shows the apple grey screen with a bar that loads to about a 3rd and then it turns off again. I have contacted apple but they were unable to help me with this.
So far I have tried to:
1. Re-install OS X 10.8 - but it says the disk is locked or OS X cannot be installed on Recovery HD.
2. Verify and Repair the disk and I errors but it cannot fix them. Some are:
               'invalid leaf count''
               ''missing thread record''
               ''incorrect number of file hard links''
               ''overlapped extent allocation''
          and it finally says ''the volume Macintosh HD cannot be repaired'' Error: ''Disk Utility can't repair this disk.. disk, and restore your backed up files.
I would like to know a way to back up my files so that i can completely restore the disk without any data loss as I havent backed up for a while!
If anyone has any solution to this issue it would be much appreciated!

I just ran the Disk Utility, and cannot very disk. It gives me an error message;
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
and when I run the repair, this is the message:
The volume GERRARD could not be repaired.

1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
Repair attempted on 1 volume
1 volume could not be repaired
Prior to running Disk Utility, I have already tried DiskWarrior, and could not repair my disk. Anyway I can fix this problem??? Formatting the disk would be my last option (though I am unsure if it will fix the problem). Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Meanwhile, I will continue to back up my file, and delete unused data and try to run it again.

10.4.3 caused problems, now can't even load 10.4.0

Machine is a 1.67Ghz PowerBook with 1GB memory. (extra ram is apple dealer supplied and is supposed to be apple)
Initial Problem.
This is my wife's PB. After loading the 10.4.3 update through the autoupdate software, system became unstable. i.e. after varying amounts of time from boot, apps would not start. Cursor would still move, dock would pop still pop up etc, but only a reboot would get apps responding again. Occasionally, the "black screen of death" would appear asking for the power buttion to be held down.
She has a backup image so I tried reloading it, but everytime the system would hang.
I have fixed permissions through disk utilities and also ran verify. Verify found a problem "invalid extent entry" and disk utilities was unable to fix it. At this stage I didn't have disk warrior so I decided to format with 0's and reinstall from the disks which came with the machine.
Went through the install process which was buggy to say the least with multiple black reboot screens but after a couple of hours I had the machine back at 10.4.0.
Repaired permissions and verified disk and all was ok. I then updated to 10.4.3 again and all looked ok. After about 30 minutes of moving user files back to the machine, the apps started to not repond.
I booted up and ran DU and again I had the "invalid extent entry" issue.
At this point i decided to do another format and reinstall.
I formatted with 0's again and when complete checked the volume and all was ok.
started the install and kept getting continual black restart screens and varying times within the installation process.
At this point I decided to reformat again and try another set of disks. I have a retail version for my 17" which i haven't installed yet so thought I'd give it a go. Again, i've had crashes at various times from the initial load to after all the user data has been entered, but never have been able to get the machine to a full install of 10.4.0.
I've also tried these things as well:
the whole process with the additional ram removed
running disk warrior on the drive
trying to load my old Panther disks because I've just about had enough of Tiger but when I try and boot them, the machine goes into some kind of weird dump that we're hanging or something to that affect. It also won't boot from my diskwarrior disk and gets the same dump and error message.
Next I might try starting it up in target mode, putting my Panther disk in my 17" and trying to load panther on it that way. Not sure if it will work, but hey, you gotta try something.
Does anyone have any ideas on what i can try next?
So far I have about 18 hours on this and I must say it is getting annoying.

Terry,
You may erase a drive with zero option, it's not required, but can make writes more reliable as it rewrites the bad sector map on the drive.
Once it's done one time it's not needed generally anymore really for that drive.
So that should save you some time and effort with all these attempted installs.
I think either your Tiger install disk is funky or your hard drive is failing.

IPod Won't Even Load - Please Help

The other day I plugged my iPod up and loaded iTunes, to find I needed an update. I proceeded to update my iPod only to be told [By iTunes] for some odd reason it needed to be restarted. For some reason it won't restart and everytime I go to start my iPod up, it loads the Apple logo and just stays there. I've manually tried to restart it numerous times, and it won't do so. I plugged it into my computer to have a message appear reading 'very low battery, please wait'. I've been waiting for almost 2 hours now. It goes from the 'very low batter, please wait' screen to the glowing Apple logo. It's been going back in forth every minute or so for the past 2 hours. Please, please help!

Although this resolution seems ingenious I must let you know that exposing your iPod to freezing temperatures can cause serious harm and it will void your warranty. Please see the following excerpt from the iPod Safety Guide available at Apple.com.
Keeping iPod within acceptable temperatures
Operate iPod in a place where the temperature is always between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). iPod play time might temporarily shorten in low-temperature conditions.
Store iPod in a place where the temperature is always between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave iPod in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
When you’re using iPod or charging the battery, it is normal for iPod to get warm. The exterior of iPod functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the unit to the cooler air outside.

I recently purchased a ipod for my son's birthday, but the mac we have has only mac os x 10.1.5 and we only have itunes 2 (cash is a bit tight now)so the software that was with the ipod will not work, does anyone know if I can get any that will work and where from

You need to go to at least OS X 10.3 Panther, once it's installed you just upgrade it to 10.3.9 though the Apple downloads page. Try eBay or some of the online Mac stores and see if you can pick up a cheap set of discs from someone who has upgraded or is holding old stock. Remember too that iTunes is free and you can download the latest version when you upgrade OS X
