Can't Even Restore

After major problems with my i-pod, I decided to restore it and re-install i-tunes. Well, I can't even restore it because I get "Firmware update failure. Disk write error."
Please help.

Also, the i-pod started displaying a picture to plug into an electrical outlet. I don't have such a cable, it used to recharge via the computer.
It wants you to plug it into AC power so that it can update itself. Clearly the restore or update you did must have worked, because now it wants power in order to reflash. Power from a computer isn't good enough, it needs you to plug the cable into the AC adapter that came with the iPod.
The same cable you use to connect it to the computer will work, just disconnect it from the computer and plug it into the AC adapter instead.

    Hi.
I am having trouble with my iPad 1. It doesn't switch on, can't restart it, can't reset it, and can't even restore it with iTunes, as it's just no visible with iTunes at all. And yes, I have charged the battery for several hours just before doing all of this. All I see on the screen is the iTunes logo and an arrow with the picture of the cable, which suggests to connect to iTunes.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks,
    Dimitri

Don't worry, just follow these steps to fix iPhone stuck on Apple logo
=> First of all Start your Computer and then connect with Internet connection, now Download the latest version of the iTunes application
=> Now install the iTunes application in your System and connect your Device with computer via Data cable
=> Now connect your Device with iTunes application and then Tab on summary option, see in the left side bar of iTunes
=> Now Select restore option from iTunes and then confirm the Restore Message for better results. After this unplug your Device and Restart it
    I hope that will surely
    Thank you...

  • I have an old iPod classic that iTunes cannot find, I can't even restore it!?

I have an old iPod Classic that iTunes cannot "find" even though it shows it. I can't even restore it. Works fine except can't synch with iTunes to add new music!?

We (Appple techs) tried disk mode and that didn't work. At times the iPod would even "show" itself in iTunes and iTunes would say it was synching but when you looked at the iPod you could tell it wasn't ( it just said do not disconnect) and after 10 to 40 minutes later iTunes would say can't find iPod. We would then have to force quit iTunes because it was hung up and then just disconnect the iPod. The iPod works fine with headphones or a docking station, just can't add (or subtract) anything to it. It completely mystified all the techs in the store and all "senior" advisors on the phone- and that was about 4.5 hours getting tossed to one "expert" or another! Ah well, indeed stranger than life.

  • My iPhone's "Other" capacity has suddenly jumped to 56G out of 64G. Yes, you read that right. Every time I try to sync to recalculate, it gets worse! Please help! Can't even restore from backup now, since my backup is all "other"!

I have fully up-to-date everything on my iPhone and computer and iTunes. I have an iPhone5 and MacBook Pro. I synced my iPhone this morning and it has 12 or so gigs of free space (even with my music and some photos on it). Then I deleted some voice memos in iTunes, and wanted to sync again to reclaim the space. When I tried, it said I had 29G of "other" data and that my phone was way over capacity and can't sync. I tried a few online solutions to force it to recalculate, but now it says it is about 90% "other"!! Only 8G of 64G free, and "other" is the ONLY thing in the summary bar.
I un-checked music for syncing, thinking that must be the problem. It did not help.  Now there is nothing on my phone except "other", according to iTunes (not even photos).
I cannot restore from backup now, since the backup includes the giant "other". I don't want to delete my info on my phone knowing a corrupted backup is my only alternative.
    Help!

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac.  As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
    Any thoughts on this?

Once I turned it on again, ALL my apps were swiped clean... even the default apps like Settings or App Store were nowhere to be found ! I tried doing the search thing on the right on web or wikipedia, but it kept giving me errors. I finally tried restoring it with my laptop but it kept giving me an error.. I tried all the solutions they suggested from the help page.. and still NOTHING! I dont know what else I can do! Please help?
P.S: My photos are still on it, I could locate them from the drive when I plugged it to my laptop.

  • My iPhone4 keeps restarting and now I can't even restore it. HELP!

My 2 month old iPhone4 keeps restarting and after trying to restore it its absolutely useless becauseit wont stay on long enough to restore. My entire business is on this phone and I would really prefer to not have to send it back to Apple.

I have a similar issue with my iPhone 4.  Tell me:  Have you been able to solve your problem yet?
If yes, then please share!  I have a short term solution and a long-term one for you if not, and I am at the point of going to my long-term solution.  So I, too, am all ears.  If you haven't resolved the problem yet, then here is...
The short term solution:  Force your iPhone into Recovery Mode (also known as DFU mode) by following Apple's instructions here, in the case that you are "unable to update or restore the iPhone's iOS".  Following the instructions on that page may fix your problem right then and there.  However, if you continue to have problems (like getting it out of DFU mode, as I have had with this fast-auto-restart problem), then it may not fix the problem.  In which case, here's what to do:  Download a free program called RecBoot for Windows or Mac.  Once installed, follow the directions for its use on that page.  If the phone is in Recovery Mode (DFU mode), Recboot will tell you, and pressing one of RecBoot's two buttons will take it out of DFU mode.  If the phone is NOT in DFU Mode, RecBoot will likewise tell you -- and the other button will place it IN DFU mode.  I recall bouncing it between in and out of DFU mode (as a last resort) when I tried a complete factory restore and the phone kept restarting itself mid-restore.  RecBoot was the one thing that finally got the phone's attention, and enabled the thing to accept a restore.  I've needed RecBoot ever since -- upgrading to iOS 5, then 5.0.1, then 5.0.2...
A few things I've noticed about my issue:  I still have the auto-restart problem, but for a while it started following a rule:  It would only auto-restart repeatedly (and relentlessly) when the phone was charging and turned off (i.e. asleep -- not powered completely down).  After a few months, the problem has evolved: The phone behaves itself when it is turned on, charging or not -- but turned off, the phone manically enters the restarting-every-few-minutes loop.  Whether it's on a charging cable or not:  If it's off, it puts itself back in the loop.  Then, the other day, the problem showed signs of morphing again: restarting in the middle of listening to a podcast -- not every 3-5 minutes, but sporadically -- and the phone was turned on.  That was indeed the last straw for me.  Which leads me to...
The long-term solution: I am led to believe that the problem may involve a faulty battery, or an element on the Logic Board.  I recently had a battery replaced in my phone, and I am questioning the replacement.  However, I am taking my phone in to an Apple Store.  Last time I took my iPhone in (with a warranty issue under the AppleCare Plan I ALWAYS get), they replaced the phone on the spot.  So if you can make your way to an Apple Store, the chances are good that at least you shouldn't have to wait for days to get a replacement.

  • HT201210 After a failed iOS6 update, I can't even restore my iPhone4! Help!

After 'extracting software' stage of the restore, iTunes shows error message "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." Can anyone help, please??
I called Apple (at great expense, as I'm in Belgium, where there don't appear to be any Apple stores...) and spoke to a guy at length who had me check there was nothing in my security settings or the wifi I was using that was preventing my iTunes from communicating properly with Apple. He suggested I try a different internet account, which I've done with exactly the same result. I won't be returning to the UK for months - my phone is useless now, thanks to attempting the unnecessary update!
    Can anyone advice me...?
    Many thanks, in advance.

No.... I haven't altered it in any way. Are you familiar with that error message?

  • Error 2003 while updating my iPod 4g to iOs 5. Can't even restore

Decided to update my iPod 4 gen to iOs 5 from 4.1
During the updating iTunes (10.5 versions) gave me somekind of error. Somekind of: Updating failure-blah-blah-blah. So, I decided to restore my iPod. Opened iTunes, clicked restore (or smth like that, i have a russian iTunes, so i don't know how this button is in English), iTunes began to restore...but then an error 2003 appeared. I don't know what's that, there is no information in guides on apple. com, so I decided to ask u for help.
p/s I did it all from Admin profile.
    Windows Xp x32.

2003 is not listed there.  I also searched Apple support for 2003 and found nothing.

  • ITunes 8/Update 2.1 wiped out my iPod Touch - Can't even restore

I've been running iTunes 8 for a couple of days and when the 2.1 update popped up I automatically clicked OK - Apparently that was a mistake. 20 minutes later I was informed that the update failed due to an unknown error. It also locked up the iPod to the point that I had to do a complete reset, but then when trying to restore the iPod the same issue happens again. Does anyone know if there is an issue with iTunes 8 (Mac)/update 2.1 that's causing this?
Luckily, I also have a PC, where I know there's an issue with iTunes 8, so I declined the update and was able to restore my iPod using iTuens 7.7.1.11 for PC. However, most of my media and apps are on my Mac, so this is only a temporary solution.

64-bit XP is the clue, Katrina. A bunch of the 64-bit XP Orca-based workarounds out on the web don't work for 9.0.x, because of the way the iPod Service and AMDS have gone 64-bit in the 9.0.x versions. So those folks will often try installing an 8.x instead.
(It's been weeks since I last checked ... so I'm not sure if there are any newer versions of the workarounds available.)

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Did this happen or of the blue of did you do something?
    - Have you tied placing it is recovery mode and then restoring?  For recovery mode see:

Error 1015 means that your iPhone is jailbroken or hacked. There is no solution that you can get in an Apple hosted forum.

  • Version Shows 4.2.1:Can't Update, Restore, or trnsfr photos or prchsd music

I have an ipod photo 20GB and after upgrading to itunes 7.0.1(7) the summary tab shows:
    - 4.2.1 shows as software version (instead of 1.2.1)
    - older ipod icon is pictured
    - the version states"ipod is up to date" and the 'update' button is grayed out
....the 'restore' button is grayed out as well so I can't even restore from my
    machine
    - I'm missing the 'photos' tab
I can transfer all my non-itunes store purchased songs fine, but when I try to transfer the purchased ones, it says the software on my ipod is too old and that I need to go to use the 'update' button in the summary tab...which tells me I have the latest version! I'm caught in a loop and am beyond frustrated! I tried using my ipod on my husband's powerbook and it's fine on HIS computer! Correct version 1.2.1 comes up and itunes store music transfers...I restored the pod from his itunes, but even after doing that I still get the same result on mine. What is going on??? Help!

with those symptoms, it's probably worth checking on the following possibilities:
iPod Updater reports iPod nano or Fifth Generation iPod must be connected using FireWire
iTunes: No Photos or Videos tab in the iPod preferences pane in Mac OS X
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X
