Can't export a video I created in Quicktime, help?

I just took several short clips from iPhoto and put them together using Quicktime into a short video of 4 minutes long.  I want to save it or export it and every time I try, I get an error message saying "Operation stopped.  The operation is not supported for this media."  I used the Share button to try to save it in Vimeo, iMovie, etc.  No matter where I try to put it, it won't work.  Ideas?

1) The first step would be to actually determine what you are really trying to do here. Do you want to "Save" or "Export the content? Saving the files would normally provide the bext quality since the data is not actually transcoded while would allow you to convert multiple data compression formats to a single, flattened video track and a single audio track.
2) Next, decide how the content is to be merged. For instance, are all of the clips of the same aspect ratio and/size. If the are, then you could use an app like QT 7 Pro or MPEG Streamclip to perform either a "Save" or "Export" operation. However, if they do not have the same aspect ratio and/or dimensions, then you may want to consider masking/compositing options only available in apps like QT 7 Pro...
a) For instance, you may want to create a fixed size background on which to overlay each unmodified clip to retain its original dimensions and aspect in a display position of your choice.
b) All clips can be scaled and/or prositioned withing the player window and then masked to create a common, shared display area for all clips.
3) Another consideration may be the number and type of file type/compression format combinations which may restict which app(s) can be used to merge your content, as well as, how the finished product is to be viewed or distributed which may affect merging/compositing requirements.
Basically you have many options here that can vary depending on what you are actually doing. For instance, if all clips have the same dimensions, I would normally give the clips alpha-numeric names representing their playback order, simply "drop import" all files simultaneously to the free MPEG Streamclip app, fix timecodes if needed, and then "Save" or "Export" the result as desired or required for further use. As I am not impressed by the consistency of QT X use or it reliability in its various current versions, I would normally use one of the editing apps bassed on "classic" QT here to avoid the idiosyncrasies you seem to be encountering.

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

  • After exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

after exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

If you were creating a DVD in Encore, you could put an "end action" on the video timeline to itself... so at the end of the DVD video it would go back to the beginning

Got the phone direct from the Apple website, so I assume it was unlocked, and it had been on giffgaff ever since but I don't see why that's a problem?
The carrier was automatically selected as Free and is up to date.
There seemed to be no problem that the SIM was being used in an iPhone 4 and my friends in exactly the same situation (e.g. arriving in France and moving over to the Free network with iPhone 4's) have had zero problems with their 3G network; it just seems to be me.
The Free Mobile Network is included on this list which I guess means that they are Apple-approved? iPhone: Wireless carrier support and features

Export with Current Settings if you are already working uncompressed. Otherwise, Send to Compressor, and choose the codec you want there.

You need to update the software. This is a very old version that will not work with the current OS. Did you purchase the software from the App Store? If do sign in with the Apple ID used to buy it. Go to the Purchases page and find the software.

HELP!! i have a ton of videos of my boys stored in iPhoto..They played fine on my old OSX system (leopard).  However, I just upgraded to snow leopard and then to mountain lion and now i can't open my videos at all anymore.  HELP!!

Can you tell us about one or more of the video files - what are they?  QuickTime?  MP4?  Something else?  How did you create the video files in the first place?
I do a lot of video and when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I discovered that many of the QT videos that I had created previously (via iMovie & Final Cut) would not play correctly in QuickTime X - the bizarre behavior was that QT X acted as if my video files were only audio files!  I reported this to Apple at the time but never heard anything back, and there hasn't been any change in later updates to QT X.
The solution was to (re)install QuickTime 7.  But first look in your Applications > Utilities folder.  When you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the installer normally moves the old QT 7 program to your Utilities folder.  If it's there, try using QT 7 to play one of your video files.    If QT 7 is not there, you can download and install it from here  Make sure you are running at least OS X 10.6.3 before you install QT 7.  It's even better if you make sure you are running 10.6.8 which was the last release of Snow Leopard.

    9 hours??!
Twice the length of a cinema epic?
How are you expecting to distribute it?
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Can't export older videos from iPhoto

Hiya, I hope someone can help me out here.
My wife and I have a few years worth of videos that were taken on digital cameras and were imported into iPhoto. The videos from the past few years were taken on our iPhones, but the older videos were imported from our old digital camera. All of our videos play correctly within iPhoto. But I recently tried to export my videos from iPhoto, and the older videos do not play. They are very short - usually about 10K to 500K, and they are zero length. When you press play they just immediately skip to the end. It's almost like they are a photo. This happens in iMovie and when I try to play the video directly out of the finder.
Now, I did my homework on exporting and made sure to chose 'Original'. And all of the exported videos from the past three years (the iPhone videos) or so work just fine. So I don't think I messed up my iPhoto export somehow. Another interesting wrinkle is that I can choose 'locate in finder' for the older videos and find the movie that way and it plays just fine. These videos in the iPhoto library are also the correct size - 10M or so. So I suppose that if worst comes to worst I can just manually copy every single video. But I'd like for the export process to work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Justin

If you want to find all videos/movies very quickly in iPhoto create a Smart Album with the criteria:  Photo is Movie.

  • How can I export a video and keep the date?

When I export the video and import it again, it changes the date to the date of today. It doesn't happen with the photos, only with videos.
I changed the dates of a lot of videos and then re-imported them again, I realised I lost all my work of editing.
    Thanks,

You can only modify the File Created date with a 3rd party application after you export it to the Desktop.  Video files do not have EXIF field that image files do so can't be modified by iPhoto or Photos.  What I do is rename the file with the date created and a brief description like:  2005-01-08-LaHanbraSpain.mov
You can do that with one of the Automator/Applescripits that léonie has posted in the User Tips section:Photos for Mac
Photos for Mac: Batch Change the Descriptions
Then export the original out with the option File Name = Title

  • How can I export 1080p video through iMovie 10.0.5?

    Hi,
I know this question has been asked many times, but I just cannot find a solution. I need help please.
I have searched for tutorials and questions and they all say to export the video through quicktime. It could be done by clicking share, then choosing quicktime. But the thing is I do not have that option on my iMovie app on my MacbookPro.
Once I press share i have the options to share on Theater, Email, iTunes, Youtube, Facebook, Vimeo, CNN ireport, and saving it as a file.
It shows that 1080p could be an option, but I am not able to pick 1080p as an export on any of the options to share shown above.

I was in the same boat at kiril. I wanted to export a .mov file. What you can also do is select the clip, then select "share" it will bring up a separate menu. If you select to email the clip it will create a file on your email application. With the email open you can then right click on the file within the email and select "save to downloads folder".
Within the downloads folder your file will be listed as a .mov file. Move the .mov where ever you want it to go.
OR you can select within the email when you right click "save attachment" and select where you want to save the .mov file.
    Hope this helps.

  • I can't export my video in 720p or 1080p.

It only allows for 480p. I used a Canon 60D camera and Sony HD Camcorder.. It allows me to export my videos in iMovie ok. If I were to export a part of my video in the event library it works. When I try and export the entire project, it doesn't. See the pictures. In this picture I have a part of the movie slected in the "EVENT LIBRARY"
I go to "SHARE" it and it does indeed allow for 1080p. (1920x1080)
But when I click on my project I edited, and only allows it to be "SHARED" at 480p (960x540)

And I cant "SHARE" in 720p nor 1080p. I can't even click on it.

  • I can't export uncompressed videos

I'm trying to export my videos as uncompressed AVIs so I can compress them on a seperate encoder, H.264, so I can put them on youtube and retain high quality videos.  However, every time I try to do this, once it's finished exporting, I click the video to test it and I only get the audio.  I doesn't matter how big or small the video is or what's on it, whenever I try to export an uncompressed video, I lose the actual video in the process.
So is there a way to fix this? Or if not, is there a way I can export the video without the enormous loss in quality I get whenever I do an AVI export? Thanks

sorry I wasn't being very specific.  When I said uncompressed AVI, I mean the videos were orignially AVIs and I simply wanted them to be returned as the raw footage but in the reorganized, edited form I put them in.  Like rearanging the videos without having to encode them again and deal with the loss of quality.  Virtual Dub does this but it's harder to work with and more limited than premiere pro.
Still not specific enough. There are two ways of exporting an uncompressed AVI from Premiere Pro: you can set the Format as Uncompressed Microsoft AVI (which you shouldn't; that's only for AJA hardware), or you can set the Format to Microsoft AVI, and then select "None" from the codec dropdown. It's the latter than you want to do.
You might want to look into the Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or the Ut Video Codec Suite; both are free visually lossless codecs that will be smaller than uncompressed. They'll appear as codec options under Microsoft AVI. Lagarith installs both x86 and x64 (required for CS5) versions; for Ut, you need to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit packages.
