Can't export audio only

Any ideas why “Audio Only” is greyed out when I try to export my project? I’ve tried both To QuickTime and to Soundtrack, no avail; could do it using QuickTime Conversion to AIFF, but why not these other ways? I just want to clean up the audio in STPro and bring it back...
Thanks!
dc

No, I’m using FCExpressHD. I already tried pulling out the FCE.plist from my Main Library; didn’t help. But I notice there’s also a FCE.plist in my User Library, along with even more FCE stuff in a folder called Final Cut Express User Data, either Final Cut Express Files or Final Cut Express Configuration Files... Should I trash both plists or any of this other stuff?
Aside: Decided not to upgrade to FCStudio, since I’d already bought and upgraded Motion and STPro before they were locked up inside Studio, and didn’t find FCP 5 compellingly better than FCP HD... Express seems to have what I need and is more usefully tied to iMovie which I have done a LOT of work in, but SoundtrackPro is an essential!
Thanks for your help, Tom (and your cool books!)

    Sure.
Choose Share>Export Using QuickTime.  Then select Sound to AIFF from the Export dropdown menu.
The resulting will be an audio only AIFF file.  The Sound to AU or Wave work in the same way and will create audio files of those file types.

  • I cannot export audio only as Roles, the render stops midway.

    I'm using FCPX 10.1.3
I try to export audio only using Roles. The render just stops midway, it never finishes. What's wrong??
I'm also using X2Pro to generate an AAF file using the same roles. The AAF file comes with errors in the ProTools session. I'm guessing that the same problem that I'm having to share audio using roles is the one messing up the AAF file.
    Help please!

    JCVela is right.
You don't want to export a master file with multitrack to then do another transcode in compressor. You have to be able to really disable and choose roles for sharing. And still, this doesn't solve the issue of exporting AUDIO ONLY as ROLES. Sometimes it works, most of the times it doesn't.
For me, it is essential to be able to really turn on and off the audio or video of clips using the roles window for any kind of sharing/export whether it is within FCPX or Compressor and that when you do, that the render actually finishes. As it is right now, the roles tool is only a way to mark your clips and to turn them on and off when you're editing. And this is ridiculous.
Another thing: can you select clips using roles? For example, I want to lower the volume of all my clips that have the role of Dialogue, in the same amount for all of them. So far, selecting the dialogue role in the role window the clips get highlighted but I still have to select each one of them individually and manually to do the volume change. So, is there a way to select them all by using roles?

  • Exporting Audio Only

I thought that you used to be able to export audio only from iMovie using share to quicktime with some advanced settings.  I don't see that as an option in the new Mavericks iMovie

Seriously ? There are no user selectable options for audio exports?
What the heck is wrong with giving people the ability to accomplish what they want to ITB?
Maybe this is just a marketing tactic to sell compressor to people who might not otherwise need it.
I sincerely hope Apple returns audio export options in the next update.
    Bj4mac,
For what it's worth, you should not have been using 44.1 audio in FCPX.
Use one of the apps that Tom mentioned to convert to 48. (or QT pro if you still have that from FCS).
If this is an audio-only task you're attempting, that's all the more reason to use another app.
    Good luck

  • Can QuickTime X Exporting Audio Only???

Can QuickTime X export audio like QuickTimePro did (.aiff, .aac, etc.) ?
QuickTime X has the same ability to record audio but seems to only alllow me to save it as a .mov or a .mp4 file. What gives!

Use the QuickTime Player Pro app (Utilities folder) for those conversions (exports).

  • Can't Export Audio

Hey all, so I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.0.3, I can export video no problem, but when it comes to exporting audio, FCP will export the whole track (approx. 35 min.) but there will only be about 1 min of the audio at the begining, after that its 34 min of blank track. I'm trying to export to .aiff. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks. JCV

The only thing i can think of is make sure you have no 'in' & 'out' points marked on the timeline... if you do, FCP will only export audio between those points...

  • How do I export audio only?

I have audio that needs cleaning up beyond what I know how to do and I want to send it off to a friend... the FCP Library is around 133GB so I'd like to just send the audio. How can I do that?
    Using version 10.1.4
    Thanks.

If you have Compressor, import a batch of your video files at a time into there and export as Audio only - something uncompressed like .aiff files.
    It's VERY quick.
If you don't have Compressor, you can create a project in FCP X, drop a load of files onto it, and then Share > Master File (choose Audio only again) .aiff (or similar uncompressed).
You'll need to re-import these files into your projects after they are returned - there are various ways to do that.

  • Can you export audio tracks as AIFF? I dont get it!

I recorded some audio narration tracks and I am trying to export just the tracks one by one into an audio editing program.
Can you only export audio files to iTunes??????
Is there a way to export the files as normal audio files?
    Thank you!

    Ok, will do. Thanks!!!
So they don't let you set your own sample rates and such. That is pretty darn lame. Very limited control.

  • Can't export audio from FCP to Soundtrack Pro

I'm running FCP 5.0.2 and have Soundtrack Pro 1.0. I'm trying to export audio tracks from a long FCP project I'm working on to ST Pro to clean them up. As shown in Apple's online demo videos, I want to export an audio track and then remove 'pops' and do noise reduction, etc. In FCP I right click the audio track I want and go down to 'Send To' but the option for "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" is grayed out and I can't click it.
If I unlink the tracks and then right click the audio track and 'Send To', the "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" isn't grayed out and looks like it would work. But that is only highlighting one audio track, not the other stereo track and not the video track. In the demo video all three were highlighted but when I relink all tracks and try to 'Send To' I get the grayed out "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" again.
Is there something I need to do or a step I'm missing.

You might be onto something Randy. I noticed in the Timeline if I tried to send an imported .AIF music clip to 'Soundtrack Pro Audio Project' it would allow it and the option wasn't grayed out. So I looked in my Browser window and checked out the file attributes to every clip which are listed to the right of the names. Sure enough, under the AUDIO column the .AIF music files are listed as '1 Stereo' and the rest of my captured video clips are listed in the AUDIO column as '2 Mono'.
So was there a setting for me to choose during Log and Capture that would have made them '1 Stereo' as opposed to '2 Mono'? Or is this a preference setting somewhere to change that for next time? They were recorded on my camera in stereo I'm pretty sure.
Now in terms of the massive project I've already captured and edited, should I be able to export these mono tracks individualy and fix them as needed? When I click the 'Send to' 'Soundtrack Pro Audio Project File' for these single mono tracks it asks me to 'Save' the file somewhere, is there a proper place to do this or just anywhere on the HD?
    Thanks

  • Can't share audio only

    I'm running an iMac 27' 3,4 GHz i7 32GB, FCP X 10.0.9 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB.
    OS: 10.8.5
I've already trashed the preferences and re instaled FCP X.
I've tried to share audio only in AIFF, WAVE and I always get the same error:
"The share operation Export File has failed
Can't set floating point format and sample-size > 32 bits"
If I try to share audio in ACC FCP X simply crashes.
When I try to share video In any way but exporting a master file FCP X crashes as well.
I've tried sharing audio of the same project in another machine and theres no problem what so ever.
    Can anybody help me please?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for the response.
1 - As I mentioned before I've already trashed the preferences, will the Preference Manager make anything different?
2 - Desabled auto-render and deleted render files but didn't work
It's not project specific. Old and new projects all show the same error

  • New to Soundbooth....How can I export audio from a .flv file?

    Hi,
I am sorta new to SB.  My girlfriend has purchased a study program that has numerous .flv files on a DVD.  She has asked if I can take the audio and convert each movie to an .mp3, (so that she can listen to the videos on her Iphone).  I figured I could open them in SB and then export as an .mp3, which would work fine on her Iphone.
The problem I run into is that when I open the .flv files in SB, the video appears, but the audio doesnot.  The .flv videos play fine in every other program.  Am I doing something wrong?  I figure since she purchased the DVDs (and owns the study program), that I am not doing anything illegal by removing the audio.  Are they encrypted?
Any other way to do this?
    Thanks,
    G

Use the Share menu. Choose Export Using QuickTime.
    Choose Sound to AIFF.

  • Quicktime X Exporting Audio only - No Video

    Hello,
Any MOV file I brought into Quicktime X I used to able to export to 720p, 1080p or 420p to
a nicely encoded, universal H.264 Quicktime file.
Now, when I try and export, it makes a small audio file and no video. The codec I'm encoding from is 'Animation'...should be easy..?
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Dan

I'm having the same problem. Exporting as a 720 or a 480 from a 1080 only makes audio files. It used to work great under Snow Leopard.
Even the Export for the Web/Broadband only ends up making audio-only .mov file
I rolled back to my old copy of QuickTime 7 pro and was able to export a 720 and a 480, though you have to wade through a lot more codec options...

  • Trying to export "Audio only"

    I'm running FCE 3.51.
    I'm trying to export two audio tracks independently. I disable v1, get the pop-up warning about possibly losing render files. I choose to continue, then repeat for v2, then a1 & a2, a3 & a4. I highlight a5 & a6, then disable a7 & a8.
From the Export sub-menu I choose "For Soundtrack". However, the "Audio Only" in the Include: pull-down is disabled. When I leave the default item "Audio & Video" I end up with a file equal in size to the entire film, but with black screen and no audio.
My goal is an exported file with a5 & a6, then I'll repeat the procedure to generate a different file with a7 & a8, each with a .wav extension.
    What am I doing wrong?

False alarm. I got it. Found the detailed instructions in the User's Manual. I should have been using Export for QuickTime Conversion rather than "For Soundtrack".

  • Can't export audio to movie

    Hi
I am trying to add music to some video footage taken with a digital camera. I was unable to extract the audio from the footage onto my arrange window using import audio from movie. I received a message saying "no active extrac
table audio to be found" (though there is audio in the footage). Then when I exported audio to movie I found that the movie was unchanged, the soundtrack I had created did not play and the original audio remained as well.
    Any help would be appreciated.

H,thanks for the advice, I'll try it out tonight. Yeah I bought quick time pro especially to work with film in logic. I am soon to start working on a project with a film student friend of mine. I was literally tearing my hair out for two days figuring I had done something wrong and it turns out that this problem seems to be part of an apple conspiracy to hush up this flaw. That and the fact apple seem barely contactable when there is an issue with one of their problems only adds to the frustration. I expected more I have to say.

  • How can I capture Audio Only?

    Hello,
I have FCEHD 3.0 and would like to capture audio tracks only with Capture Now (from a non-controllable device via Canopus). There is no "Audio Only" option in the capture window. Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    C.J

    Hi(Bonjour)!
No way to capture audio only with capture command.
Simply delete the video track in the timeline.
    Or:
Plug your camcorder audio output in your in-line socket on your mac with an audio 1/8" wire, do a voice over record.
The resulting audio file will be a "analog" one.
You can also use a sound editing programm like Sound studio or audacity to capture your audio-in content, and import the resulting file in FCE.
