Can't export because movie is too long (9:42 minutes).

Hello, I have a series of 12 hour long MP4s.  I wanted to merge them all into one movie that I could store under one album cover on my iPad.  I figured I would use iMovie so I put them all in one project.  Then tried to export.  After three or so hours of "preparing the project" an error popped up saying that the file is too long.  I have over 600GB of free space on my harddrive so it isn't that.
What should I do without shortening the video?
Thanks!

Are you using version 8 or version 9? It's hard to tell because you reference both.
In version 9, if you go to the Share tab and select the Computer option, you'll be taken to a screen with seven output options.
Audio wil be listed as your last option. (You do have to click on the Audio listing to select it.) and MP3s are certainly among the options listed on the Preset menu.
If you can't see it, you need to scroll down or resize your panels -- or your computer monitor may not be large enough. But it's there.

How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • Can't export any movie

    Hi,
I've had Premiere Elements 10 (Education edition) for a while now, however, it's been a while since I've made a movie.  I tried to create a short movie using a range of photos or a couple of videos.  Either way, I can't export the movie.  The "Export"option is greyed out.  I'm on a Mac using 10.8.2.
I'm a novice with this software.  So a clear explanation on what I can do to fix this would help greatly.
    Thanks heaps.

  • HT4623 I tried to download the ios 6.1.1 and I keep being told it can't download because I'm no longer connected to the internet

When trying to install the ios 6.1.1 update, I get a message saying I can't install because I'm no longer connected to the internet.  Every other app that requires internet connection work fine.

    METHODS:
    A :
Go to settings, then iTunes and apps, click on your Apple ID and then sign out. Sign back in and see if it works.
    B :
Double-tap the Home button to bring about the multitasking screen
Navigate to “Settings” then swipe up on the Settings app to send it off the screen, thereby quitting
Go back to the home screen, relaunch Settings, and try to download the update again.
    C :
Open Settings and go to “General” followed by “Reset”
Choose “Reset Network Settings” and tap the red text to confirm the reset – this will trash the network configuration and restart iOS
When booted back to the home screen, reconnect to a Wi-Fi network through settings
Install the iOS update as usual

  • Trying to restore a lost Thunderbird profile, but can't "move profile" because filenames are too long

I'm having a problem with Thunderbird that is addressed in several postings here and on "mozillaZine," but in trying to follow the instructions given for fixing it, I have run into a new problem that I don't see addressed. The original problem is the one described in this thread, where my folders and everything have just vanished, and I'm prompted on startup to create a whole new profile:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1040003
Following the links in that thread, I get to this -- and since my address book has also apparently disappeared, I click the internal link to the section headed "Lost Profile":
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared
Step 1 then sends me here:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
Step 2 on that page says, "Copy the profile folder to where you want to store it." When I try to do that, though (using Windows Explorer on Windows 7), it gets partway through the copying and then hangs up because it runs into a filename that is too long to copy. And according to the prompt that tells me this, there are many more such long filenames still to come.
Do I ignore this error and just skip those files? That means the profile copy won't be complete, which I would think would be dangerous and/or would just cause further errors. Or is there some simpler way altogether to do what I originally set out to do, which is recover the profile that just mysteriously disappeared?
Again, I'm running Thunderbird on Windows 7, and had been using it for years without ever before encountering this extremely irritating glitch. I'll be grateful for any help.

I very much appreciate both these answers and will save them for future reference if needed. The problem seems to be resolved, although not for any reason I can explain. What happened was that I suddenly had three problems all in the same 24 hours or so: a very slow, almost unusable internet (I thought connected with my "IPv6 Connectivity"), then the Thunderbird crash, then Google Chrome not starting. Whether and how these are all related, I don't know. Anyway, while I was sitting here unable to get e-mail or get back into this forum, I decided to try a System Restore just for the heck of it, even though someone else had reported this not working. And it too seemed to fail, at first, giving me an error message that said the system couldn't be restored due to an "unknown error." But clearly at least part of it worked, because I am seeing some earlier settings, and Thunderbird then started -- almost normally, except for needing my passwords entered again.
So I'm running "MozBackup" now in hopes of having the profile readily available next time this problem comes up. Also, Chrome is now working again after I did something or other with the security settings, and the internet seems normal even though my IPv6 status still shows "No network access." I really don't know what's been going on, but for whatever reason everything seems fixed. For now. :-S
Again, I'm sincerely grateful for your efforts to help me. Now that I'm a member of the forum I'll try to do the same for someone else.

  • I can't export my movie because a file is missing, how can I find it?

I've spent ages making a movie and now it says cannot export because a movie file cannot be found. I have no idea what file this is! It says it is called 'Trim 1' but this doesn't appear to be any of my movie files. I did have some problems importing some movie files which then wouldn't show up - could this be the problem? And it says that without this file, the movie cannot play properly! How can I identify this file and delete it?

    many thanks, that's perfect.
it tells me that the feature i am trying to us is on a network resource that is unavaiable. click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package. 'iTunes64msi' in the box below.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Imovie can't export my movie because it "lost it"

so thanks very much iMovie for telling me the export of a 1 hour movie at the original size was going to take 6 hours. I left you on overnight so you could do this. I checked at about 4 hours and you were happily processing away. And this morning where's my effing movie? Oh, you lost it. I'll just check the system log. "Job appears to have crashed: Abort trap". What kind of error message gives details like that?

    2 hours = 120 minutes
iDVD limits in time not in amount of Gbs - and this limit includes MENU. By using a very very simple one with NO animation or audio then this need of time can be reduced to about 1 minute - leaving 119 minutes to movies.
I use "Brushed Metal" from old themes and NO animation or audio to do this on SL-DVDs
If You use DL-DVDs You can put in about x2 on a single DVD
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.2) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
But if You need more then You can use Roxio Toast™ and here squees in about 10 hours onto a SL-DVD
BUT THE QUALITY WILL BE POOOOOR - VHS tapes recorded in LP or EP-mode will look stunning when compared - so to me this is no real option - I use Toast™ to do other things.
    Yours Bengt W

  • The size of my exported FCP movie is too big for DVD studio pro

    Hey,
I have been editing for 4-5 years now and have never had a problem with size of a project to put into DVD Studio Pro to burn. However, I just finished a 2 hour project in which exported as a FCP movie it is 23.97 gb in size. When i put this into DVD Studio Pro it makes it 4.8gb in size which just makes it too big for it to burn. I have tried changing the compression to no avail and just now decided to clean up the timeline so everything is on one track with nothing overlapping. (The problem was it was a 2 camera shoot so the first camera i had on the bottom track constant with the second camera on the top track when i needed it but still with the first camera underneath.) Do you think this could be the solution to my problem? If you guys could help me out it would be most appreciated!

some things don't make sense here. please clarify.
Standard DV is roughly 5 minutes per gig, so that means that you have just about 2 hours of video, ok, got that. Now it's the two track thing that gets me.
Are you saying you have 4 hours of footage, the same thing from two cameras, and you're trying to set up a multi-angle DVD?
If it's just that you used two video tracks to edit, then NO, it is not your problem. It's still only 2 hours, the video will be mixed down to one track upon export from FCP to quicktime.
My suggestion is, instead of bringing a quicktime file directly into DVDSP, use compressor. I believe they have a preset in compressor 2 for a standard 120 minute DVD. IF you're project is truly less than 120 minutes, than that should be fine. If not, then you may have to manually make your own setting and lower the bitrate.
    So the workflow is:
    -open sequence in fcp
-file>export>quicktime movie... (you can uncheck "make movie self-contained" if you want it to export faster and you plan on keeping your original capture footage around)
-export your movie to a directory of your choice with a name of your choice.
    -open compressor (in applications)
-drag the quicktime file you created into compressors main window, this will set it up. Now specify the export setting (120 minute HQ all files either 16x9 or 4x3 dep. on project) and specify a location for the files to be created. I strongly suggest that you use the HQ (High quality) settings in compressor. It's much slower to process, but much better quality.
-with a 2 hour movie it should take a really REALLY long time to compress, so I'de say do it over night.
-when compressor is done, you should have 2 or three files. a .m2v file a .aif file, and a .ac3 file. The .aif is your PCM audio, much better quality than the .ac3, which is dolby 2 channel. However, the .ac3 is a much smaller file with a lower bit rate, so if the .aif makes the DVD file size too big, you can switch it out for the .ac3
-Finally, open up your DVDSP project, drag the .m2v, .aif, and .ac3 into DVDSP and use the .m2v for the video track and either the .aif or .ac3 as the audio (as mentioned above)
-the good news is, your DVD media is already rendered, so when you go to build your DVD it will go much, much faster!
By the way, I recommend you go to file>advanced>build do not do a burn and build.
I find it best to build the VIDEO_TS folder on a hard drive and then use a program like toast to create a DVD (using toasts from VIDEO_TS option). This method also allows you to go back into DVDSP, make tweaks, and reuse your VIDEO_TS folder, not having to rebuild the whole thing each time.
Remember, 120 minutes on a single layer DVD is going to render fairly low quality no matter what.
If you have a newer mac and a dual layer drive, you may want to cough up a few bucks and get a dual layer DVD-R, then you have over 8 gigs of space to work with, perfect for HQ 2 hour footage.

  • Export iMovie to Quicktime - too long?

I have an iMovie project that is pretty long and detailed with titles, music, etc. (length: 1:00:26:17). It is currently very choppy, the audio is clear, but the visual lags behind. I think this is simply because iMovie is just not built to handle this length and complexity. I would like to export this project as it is, with no further editing, to Quicktime. I plan to create a second iMovie project, then export that to Quicktime. Then I will take both Quicktime files and import them back into a 3rd iMovie project so I can combine the two movies into one bigger one and eventually move over to iDVD. My question is: Since my current iMovie project is choppy and does not play with fluidity, is there going to be a problem exporting to Quicktime?

The playback issue could be hard drive space. Do you have lots, at least 25GB free? Why not just go ahead and try the export and see how it comes out?

  • How do I split a project in IMovie into two projects?  When I try to burn a DVD RDL in IDVD, it tells me the movie is too long.

I am running  IMovie 8.0.6.  (OS X Mavericks 10.9.5) How do I split a project into two projects?  When I share it in Media Browser to IDVD, and try to burn a DVD- RDL, it keeps telling me the project is too long.  Do I split it in IDVD and how do I do that?

AppleMan  Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents"  but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb.  Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong.  Babowa  It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

  • Incbuilddim failing because formula is too long

    Hi all:
I have migrated from version 6 to 9. Its rejecting some records within incbulddim statements because the formula of the member being added seems to be too long. That didnt happen in version 6.
The record itself is not even close to the length limit the documentation gives to a formula (64kb). It only has 1600 bytes.
How can i get rid of this restriction? is there anything i can configure, or some kind of workaraound?
    Thanks in advance!

It would seem logical to expect you to include information on the length of the film!
Export to where/what? Using what codec?
Also the version of iMovie you are using.
