Can't export clip to 16/9

Hi guys,
so I have some questions that I'd like to ask. Here's the story: I shot some clips using 16:9 native camera. Everything looked fine in the viewer & canvas windows (it displayed my clip as widescreen/ 16:9 in Final Cut Pro).
However, when I exported it using QuickTime Movie, the result was very, very upsetting. It changed its aspect ratio by itself. It became 4:3.
Is it my final cut pro setting that is wrong, or is it me that don't know how to export widescreen in final cut pro OR is it my quicktime player (vers. 7.5.5) that created this problem? My FCP setting is DV-NTSC Anamorphic, btw.
So I'm just wondering if you guys could help me with this issue.
Thanks very much! Your help is greatly appreciated!
Joe

This is one of the most often mis-understood aspects of video editing. Standard Definition video (SD) is a 4:3 aspect ratio. When you shoot 16:9 standard definition on a camera, your 16:9 video is actually recorded in a 4:3 space by squeezing the image. This is the "anamorphic" part.
When you bring it in to FCP and place it in an anamorphic sequence, FCP "displays" the video in 16:9 despite the fact that the file itself is 720x480 or 4:3. When you export, it remains 720x480.
It has nothing to do with FCP which is simply exporting the file as it is. The reason it looks squished in QT is that QT doesn't recognize that it's an anamorphic file it's displaying, hence the reason you need to adjust it's display settings.
If you want to force it into 16:9 on the export, you can use QT conversion and in the settings adjust the frame to 854x480. That will give you a proper 16:9 QT file.
This can also be done in QT after the fact by hitting CMD+J and changing the frame size in the Visual Settings and then saving.

  • How can I export clip markers?

Is there any way to export clip markers? When I export to a QuickTime movie and select All Markers neither my timeline nor my clip markers are visible when I bring the exported clip into Final Cut or Compressor.

Both of my markers are chapter markers and I have selected "All Markers", but when I bring the exported clip into Final Cut I see no markers.

  • Can't export clips or sequences to Audition from Premiere Pro cc 2014.2

I can't get audio tracks or anything to export to audition. If I right click on them the option is grayed out and if I go to the clip menu and select "edit in adobe audition" the "clip" is grayed out and if I choose sequence it opens a dialog box that will not let me click the box "open in adobe audition".
I am watching a how to video but my program will not function as shown in video.

I uninstalled Audition and reinstalled it. I read that it should be installed after premier pro cc. That restored the grayed out links. good, but now other problem.
Now the new issue is the export to premiere from Audition is greyed out.
I will try and get this make sense...
I installed premiere cs6 two days ago to get Encore for dvd burning and menus. After the uninstall/reinstall of audition just now I ran a check on the link and got stuff from premiere cc 2014 to launch into audition, but when I checked how to send it back to premiere pro cc 2014 when I went to export to premiere (and was able to check the open in Premiere box) it launched cs6, but I want it to go to my premiere cc 2014
So I uninstalled cs6 only leaving encore, now the box to send it to premiere is unable to be checked.
I tried another fresh install of audition, but the box is still unable to be checked.
I need help - been up all night and having a rough time here.

  • Can I export clips with the poster frame already set?

Does anyone know how to do this? -
I want to set custom poster frames in FCP and have them remain as the set poster frames in the mov clips that I export so I don't have to open the individual clips in QuickTime and re-set the poster frames from there.
    Thanks for any input!

Apparently the low-resolution preview that InDesign creates on first placing the PDF does not store a transparent background. If I recall correctly, this is also visible in the UI.
If you don't have access to the original image, you don't have access to its transparent bits,  so you have to think of something else. Would it be enough to treat all white pixels as transparent?

  • How can I export movies containing Panasonic LX-5 AVCHD clips?

When I use AVCHD video clips that I've imported into iMovie in a project from my Panasonic Lumix LX-5, I can't export that project. I get this error message: "Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)"
Anybody else had this problem using AVCHD video recorded with the LX-5 or any other camera?

Save the clips as Quicktime files (full quality), then you can import them into later versions of iMovie. An iMovie 6 project would not be compatible with recent versions of iMovie.

  • How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

  • Why can't merged clips be exported to XML?

I merged my files from a double system shoot (with a Red camera and separate audio) - only to find that you can't then color correct outside of Premiere. I will grant I should have read the bottom of the merged file page which clearly states that you can't export an XML file with merged files but WHY?????????????? How do merged files benefit you if in the end you can't export to DaVinci for color correction? And from what I have found there are no work arounds. I tried to replace with original source video but the timecode of the merged file no longer matches that of the original source audio so I can't without resyncing and re-editing the whole thing - and our sound mixer has already done a significant amount of work on an OMF of the current project. And of course once I import that OMF and sync it to the video - I can't change the video because then I could have significant issues with the audio. I currently work in CS5.5 and would happily pay for an upgrade to Cloud if it solved this problem but from everything I have read it does not... it seems like a huge issue. I would rather not have the merged files function than have it lead me astray in this fashion.
If anyone has found a solution let me know. Otherwise I was going to have the original source files color corrected by our colorist and link those to the project (luckily there aren't really internal clip issues and it's a short so it's only 28 clips total)?
    Any solutions greatly appreciated

Title changed by moderator to make it descriptive of the issue/question--but mostly eliminate the all-caps. Shouting doesn't help

Ah yes -- well very holistic approach I suppose... but considering my question "how to export a project with merged clips to an XML file?" - this doesn't actually answer that question. It is a work around. But one that requires me to find and hire another colorist (and let's be honest a large portion of the post-production community works with Resolve) and I don't think I am being unreasonable for expecting Adobe to have considered the possibility of this work flow (editing a project in Premiere and then moving to a commonly used platform such as Davinci Resolve to color correct). Or yes I could learn SpeedGrade but if I had the time to color correct the project myself we wouldn't be hiring someone else to get the project completed in a timely manner... so yeah it's a work around that doesn't really work. I am hoping having the original source video color corrected will make it all work - and I will NEVER used the Merged Clip feature in Premiere ever again. And wish there was some way for me to warn others against falling victim to its charms as well.

  • How can i export video clips in iPhoto into iMovie?

how can i export video clips in iphoto into imovie?

    Hello andrewmarkp,
As long as the videos are in a format that can be used by iMovie, they will appear in your Event Browser, under 'iPhoto Videos.'
iMovie '11: Use video from your iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2196
If you’ve imported video from your digital camera into iPhoto, it appears automatically in your iMovie Event Library (as long as the video is in a compatible format).
To use iPhoto video in iMovie:
Click iPhoto Videos in the Event Library.
The videos appear in the Event browser on the right. You can select and use the video just as you would any other footage.
To learn about importing video into iPhoto, open iPhoto and choose Help > iPhoto Help.
    Cheers,

  • Can I export to a 4 audio channels clip?

Hi everyone, that is my question: can I export a four tracks videoclip from Premiere?
The 4 channels should be stereo + stereo
The purpouse is having a clip with two separate languages, both in stereo
    Thanks for you help!

Yes. The best would be to Export as elemental streams for use by your authoring app. You can Mute one set of Audio Tracks with either the Audio Mixer, or from the Audio Track Header. Export as normal to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit. Now, un-Mute those, and Mute the others. Export your Video as DV-AVI Type II, Video-only (no Audio, no muxing).
Once in your authoring app (Encore?), Import your DV-AVI Video-only file as a Timeline, and your two Audio-only files as Assets. Decide which of your Audio files you want as the primary and drag it to that Timeline. Then drag your secondary Audio file to Track 2 on that same Timeline.
I would do a "language" sub-Menu, and link the two (or more if you had more) Buttons to the respective Timeline, making sure to choose the appropriate Audio Track. The user can then select the Audio for the DVD. Some players also have an Audio button on the remote, and this should allow selection of language.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How can i export a separate FCP 10 project to a new hard drive

I am using  FCPX 10.1.1 - My current EXT harddrive is getting full and I have a Grocery store client that I do weekly edits for. The project is a 30 second commercial and I always have to make price changes. Prior to the latest update I was able to copy the FC events and Projects to a new hard drive. WIth this new version all the files seem to be in one file when i look at the external hard drive.
Is there a way to export seperate projects? do or can i export from Final cut or is there a way to get those files from the hard drive finder window?
    THanks
    TIM

A library contains events, which contain your clips and projects.
This is seen by the Finder as a single document, and can copy or move it just like any other file. It is recognizable by the icon with the four stars in it.
You can control-click on a library in FCP X and use the "Reveal in Finder" command to locate it.
I recommend you follow some of the great tutorials explaining the new library model, and media management in 10.1. I can assure it is vastly superior to the old ways. I can't imagine going back.

  • (How can we) Export FXG from Flash Professional using JSFL

How can we export a selection from Flash Professional as .FXG using JSFL? It appears that this is not possible... just yet! I have added this as a feature request within the Adobe Labs site for Flash Professional. Someone at Adobe suggested that I also explore the forums, so here we are. If you would also like to have this feature added, please let Adobe know by promoting the idea.
Our use case is this: we have a large Flash file with a library of over one thousand skins and assets that were built in Flash with Adobe's Flex Skins Templates. These stateful, graphical skins were used within a custom theme by several Flex 3 projects. Our ultimate goal is to bring these through Catalyst, maintaining their vectors, and use them to create Spark skins.
We've got a JSFL that can export each linked library asset, as well as any frame-labeled 'state' within these clips. However, currently we are using exportPNG, which is not ideal as it flattens our vector art into raster images. We are about to try the exportSWF option, and see what Flash Catalyst does with this. Our early attemps with importing swf's haven't been too amazing.
I'm starting to imagine some cross-product scripting in which we export symbols at a state-by-state level as .swf from Flash, then rebuild these onto layers in Illustrator, and THEN import these into Catalyst...yikes!
    Anyone have a better solution?

    Follow-up:
Out of pure wishful thinking I decided I would just see what happened if I pretended 'exportFXG' was already a part of JSFL. Based on the signature of 'exportPNG', i tried the following lines:
      var success = fl.getDocumentDOM().exportFXG("file:///C:/mySymbol.fxg");
      fl.trace("success:"+success); // output: success:true
It worked! Fantastic! I'm not sure if exportFXG is considered still in "beta" and therefore intentionally excluded from the docs, or if it was just an oversight. But at least it gives us something to experiment with.

  • Can you render clips / transitions

I have a new Mac that is very very fast. However, even still some video transitions don't play smoothly.
I can export the whole project into a quicktime movie or .m4v file and see them smoothly, but I cannot see them play smoothly in iMovie.
Is there a way for iMovie to pre-render effects and transitions so that they don't have to be generated in real time (that is too slow for real time)...?
(Many of the source files I'm working with are .m4v files, which could be why the transitions are playing back poorly.)

You can convert the m4v files to Apple Intermediate Codec. That would convert the highly compressed h.264 into full i-frames. You can optimize the clips from within iMovie, or you can do this in MPEG Streamclip or QuickTime Pro.

  • Can I export mutiple stills at a time?

i can export one still image at a time. but can i export multiple still images at a time? how can i do that?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   Power Mac 5, 2.3 G Duel, 2 G Ram, Kona LS

What Marcel is suggesting does in fact give you several pictures. If you choose a clip that is one second long, and export it as an image sequence, you's get 30 still images. A 4 second clip, you'd get 120 images...all in sequential order.
Do you mean is it possible to export still images from several different clips at the same time? No, you need to tell FCP what frame in what clip to export.
