Can't Export iCal Archive to iDisk

Why can't I export an iCal Archive to iDisk?
Please try this:
iCal  >  File  >  Export  >  iCal Archive     and select iDisk as a destination.
Such an export attempt just hangs for me in Snow Leopard and Lion.
The same type of export works with Address Book:
Address Book  >  File  >  Export  >  Address Book Archive    then select iDisk as a target.  This works.
Can anyone please explain why this doesn't work for iCal?

Well, since I use Earthlink through Time Warner, I am running on similar circuits. Do not have another option. That may be part of the problem.
Apple's interface is another. I consider it to be uninformative. The window appearing causes it to seem that the file transfer took place quickly however if you look more closely and think about it, the transfer rate for the display is too great to be true.
Oh, I wish I had a T-1 line but....
Part of the problem may be that my internet connection is through Airport. An Airport network is not that fast.
After a long period of frustration in transferring files between my computer and that of my wife using Airport, I decided to heck with it and connected us and our printer through an ethernet Gigabit LAN. The speed is great!!
One of these days I will get around to drilling holes in the wall to run the cables through closets, etc., rather than along the hall.

  • What's the difference between iCal Export and Archive?

    I want to back up my iCal on my Mac before converting to iCloud. I see via the File drop down menu, I can either;
    File > Export > Export
    or
File > Export > iCal Archive
Apple docs just addresses: iCal Archive for backing up which is fine.
But I was wondering what the Export > Export function is for. Is it a different file format than iCal Archive thus allowing you to import and Export > Export to perhaps another calendar program other than iCal?

Austin, your response doesn't fully satisfy the question. First, while you're right that "backup" would imply that it's a backup, the word "backup" doesn't actually appear in the menu options. Some time has gone by from the original post and the original product names, but the concept of two choices still remains. They now are given as "Export…" and "Calendar Archive…" (previously it was "Export…" and "iCal Archive…").
According to other sources, "Export…" is used to export a single file, to later import to another calendar program or perhaps another computer.
"Calendar Archive…", on the other hand, is supposedly used to export ALL your calendars, and subsequently to import to a new Calendar on a different Mac (or, of course, to reload the current one). It seems to me that someone wanting to take their whole calendar environment off their office computer and get it onto a laptop or a home computer would want to use Calendar Archive rather than Export.

  • Export versus Archive

I have recently upgraded to the New MobileMe Calendar which I synch with iCal on my MacBook and with the calendar app on my iPhone. I have always backedup iCal using Time Machine. With the new MM Calendar, Apple states, "Important: Do not rely on traditional methods for backing up calendar data, such as exporting the iCal database, Time Machine, MobileMe Backup, or iTunes backups of iOS devices." This can be found in the support article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4226
The backup process says to Choose File > Export > Export (versus File > Export > iCal Archive). My understanding is that when using Export > Export, you have to export each of your calendars separately, whereas with Archive you get everything with one export.
I guess I don't understand the difference between export and archive as far as the resulting file is concerned. And, the main question is, can I use Archive to backup and then, if necessary, restore my calendar data.
Also, if at some time in the future I decide not to use MobileMe any more, I would like to be able to restore all my old calendar data.
    Thanks.

Anyone has an answer to this question.
It's still a question mark for me too
    Cheers

  • Export iCal

Can I export iCal to a Word processing document like Word or Appleworks or Pages? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd be interested in this - so far I have thought of using grabber & cutting & pasting from .Mac, but neither are satisfactory really.

  • How can I get iCal not to show the same birthday dates from my iCloud

How can I get iCal not to show the same birthday dates from my iCloud?

You don't need them stored locally for a backup. You can manually export your contacts as archive for backup. Also, if you are backing up with Time Machine, you already have a backup. If your hard drive crashed, you would have to rely on your backup or iCloud anyway.
So, if you're comfortable with that, sign out of iCloud. Choose to delete contacts from the computer. When you sign back into iCloud, you should only have iCloud contacts listed in AB. When you open iCal, you should only have one listing for birthdays.
The other alternative is to disable the Birthday c.alendar and create one manually.

  • Can I Export to Text File?

    hi,
can i export my ical events to a text file?
    thanks.
    samantha

I have figured out a way to do this with free available programs:
    Download this program:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/faview.html
Faview will allow the bookmarks exported in html format to be saved as a text file. This text file is in a uniform state.
Open the text file with a spreadsheet program. I used the free program called spread32.exe that can be found anywhere on the internet.
Highlight all the columns and do a sort by Column A. The urls will now be in alphabetical order at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Cut and paste into a new text file.

  • HT204053 I somehow erased all my contacts from my IPHONE, how can i export them from icloud to my phone?

I somehow erased all my contacts from my iPhone, how can I export my contacts from my icloud account from my PC?

    joephilipose,
If the contacts are still in Address Book on your computer, but just not on the phone, you can tell iTunes to force replace the contacts on your phone with those from your computer. You can do this by going into the Info tab when your iPhone is connected, and checking the Contacts box under the Advanced section at the bottom of the page.
You may also want to backup your Address Book information as well. It's a good idea to make periodic backups of your contact and calendar information in case information accidentally gets deleted or changed. You can find out how to backup your Address Book data here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
To backup your iCal information, follow the steps in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iCal/3.0/en/9889.html
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • I can't export my project in Final Cut Pro X

Hey Troops. So after buying my new powerbook few months back finally have had a chance to use Final Cut Pro X. After completing my project, I went into 'FILE' clicked on 'SHARE' just see all my options greyed out. I checked to see if I needed an update and that doesn't appear to be the problem.
In past versions I would of thought I forgot to render, but with the auto render thats not the case.
    Could use some help.
    Cheers,
    Dallas

I don't think this has anything to do with updates/
Make sure that your timeline has focus.
Also, it may well be that some of your clips has not been completely imported and still references the camera card. In that case, you can't export.
Locate the clip or clips (they may be showing a little camera badge in the browser) and do File->Import->Reimport from Camera/Archive...

I cannot sync from old G5 so if I backup that iCal, can I merge it with new iCal on my new Mac without losing new Mac calenday details?
    Thanks.

    Jeff,
First, iCloud: How to back up iCloud data.
Next, use iCal>File>Export>Export...for the calendar that you want to use for the export. Move the .ics file to your new computer, and double click the file. You will be offered a choice of creating a new calendar in iCloud, or importing to an existing calendar. Make the appropriate choice for your circumstances.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Can I export Bins/folders created in Premiere Pro CS6 to desktop?

Recently I've started a slideshow project in Premire Pro. I organized all the images in Premiere by bins and started the project, although another software (ProShow Producer 5) have come to my attention, and I would like to continue the project in ProShow. Though my bins are organized inside Premiere and it would take me hours to go into the folders and pick out the correct photos again for the new project. My question is, can I export Bins/folders created in Premire to my computer? I know that the folders created in Premire are not real, though is there any pissiblity to duplicate the photos and place them into the bins/folders indicated in Premire? That way I can have all the folders ogranized and ready without the need to do it all again.
Are there any plugins that convert Premire bins into physical files?
    Any help would be appriciated.
    Thank you.

Sorry, but as Ann says, they are but mere links.
Which is why I generally arrange my clips and other assets into folders on my hard drive before I import them into Premiere Pro. First of all it is faster to import them and second it is faster to archive them.

  • Can you export as AVCHD if you use "Matched sequence"?

As far as I know, "Matched sequence" means that you will export the file exactly the same as your sequence settings. Adobe says that you can't export to AVCHD, you can only import AVCHD but you have to export to something like MPEG 2.
So what if I export a AVCHD sequence as "Matched sequence"? Will the final export be a AVCHD file or something different?
How do I check if the exported file is a AVCHD file?

Where it says "Format" that would be the exporter you'd want to use from Premiere Pro or AME.
    1.Youtube.
Format: H.264. There is a preset for YouTube 720p that you can use as a baseline; increase the dimensions to 1080p, change the frame rate, and I set the bit rate to 8mbps target/10mbps maximum for my YouTube 1080p uploads. Save this as a preset so you can reuse it later.
    2.Delivery for TV broadcast.
That's hard to answer; every broadcaster will want different deliverables. You'll need to check with their requirements. I deliver everything from H.264 MP4s, Avid MOVs, DV AVIs, and HD MPEG2 files--it's sort of a mish-mash so it's not really possible or practical to give you a set number of parameters for this one.
    3.Archival use on my computer.
You could use an uncompressed AVI or MOV (Format: Microsoft AVI/QuickTime, Codec: None), but they will be very large files. Why not just keep the footage and the project file? You could also try a lossless codec like the Ut Video Codec Suite or (my preference) Lagarith Lossless Video Codec. Both are free, Windows-only, and appear as codecs under Microsoft AVI. They're both good; they'll be big files as well, but not quite as big as uncompressed.
    4.To burn to DVD.
    5.To burn to blue ray.
Premiere Pro has specific exporters for both of these; check out Format: MPEG2-DVD for DVD and Format: MPEG2 Blu-ray or H.264 Blu-ray for BD. You can also just send your sequence to Encore and let it pick the best settings based on your desired output format; select your sequence and go to File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore.
6.To upload and sell the footage on a website like shutterstock.
Just like #2 above, you'll need to check with the specific stock service what their requirements are. They should be pretty simply spelled out, and then you can choose the format and codec based on those requirements. Googling for the particular service and other users' experiences would help, too.

  • Export failed, archive corrupt error

    Hi -
I am getting an Export failed, archive may be corrupt error when I try to export my EAR from Workshop 9.2 MP1. (Oddly enough, if I build my EAR with the exported Ant scripts, that works. I can deploy and run this EAR). An the EAR is truly corrupt - when I deploy and try to run it WLS complains about the web services' PortType files ClassNotFound.
The error I believe is a result of the web services' PortType file being inserted into the EAR as a .java file vs. a .class file. For example, if I have a web service called MyWebService, in the exported EAR I see MyWebServicePortType.java rather than the expected MyWebServicePortType.class file.
The Workshop .metadata/.log file contains the stack trace below for the export archive error. Looks like it complains about not being able to move resources around (what ever this means).
Can anyone give me some ideas on what might be wrong?
    Thanks!
    Hugh

    Hi
We have seen the same error when there are specific annotations. One instance was that a service control was using a handler annotation and that caused the export error.
    @ServiceControl.Handler(file="soap-handler.xml",operation={"ServiceControlSoapHandler"})
In the project "CommonControlServices", do you use any Soap Handlers in service control or jws?
If so, can you remove the annotation and try doing the build and export and see if it works.
Let me know if this is the case in your app.
    Vimala-
