Can't export in imovie...

I am having problems here. Not only can't I export -- the menu for "share" rests dark on every line -- but imovie keeps my clips, and I can't recuperate them. Also, all the editing functions -- cut, paste, etc. -- rest dark. Why is this software dead on me?

Thank you again. I followed your suggestions. Here's what I did:
Created a new project.
Imported all events from the relevant event file on my HD, into the project.
Then I looked at the video. I used the "Youtube" tutorial as a reference, it's the closest to what I'm doing. I opened imovie and clicked on the project file.
And we're back to step one. The share menu is dark on every line.
Why?

  • How can I export an imovie in a pc format?

How can I export an iMovie to a format that will work on a PC?

Easiest was is to install QuickTime for Windows (which is free from Apple) on the PC. Then any iMovie-created file will work.
If you do not have permission to install QuickTime for Windows on your PC (this could be the case for a corporate PC, for example), then I would suggest using SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to MP4. Choose h.264 for the video codec.

  • Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Hi, Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Absolutely.  Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion).  Make sure you check the Self-Contained box.  The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added.  Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

  • I can't export in iMovie '13

I cannot export my project from iMovie '13! I spent a lot of time on this project and can' just start over in iMovie'11. Is there a way to either fix this and export from iMovie '13, or can I somehow get the project into iMovie '11 and export from there? Whenever I press Command+E, it makers that sound that means you can'tdo it, and all the share options are greyed out.
Also, I don't know if this has to do with it, but when I take out my video card, some of the videos can't play, even though it says it is done importing....

The resolution of a project is set by the first video clip added and can't be changed manually.  Since you have no video clips it may be setting the resolution to 720p which seems to be the default.    Is this what you see?
The only solution I am aware of is to start a new project and add any 1080p video clip.  Then copy everything from your present project to the new one.  You should then be ablt to delete the video clip and the new project should stay set to 1080p.

  • Can't export finished iMovie - am I stuck?

I've just completed a mammoth edit, resulting in a 3 hour 20 minute film including titles and transitions. I've bought some dual layer DVDs to put it on.
My problem is that it won't export from iMovie so I can burn it on the discs. It takes about eight hours trying, and looks good until the last moment when it gives this message:
Unable to prepare project for publishing.
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred.
    (Error code = -2125)
It then gives me a button to click, saying 'OK'. It's not OK at all, of course. This edit has taken me days to edit and I've twice used most of London's electricity supply waiting eight hours for it to 'share'. I've tried basic sharing, using iMovie's Media Browser, and Exporting to a Finder file. Both resulted in the same error message, after making their sedate way along a very lengthy progress bar.
What can I do now? Somehow I've got to get the edit out of iMovie!
I'm using iMovie 08 7.1.4 (585) on Mac OSX 10.5.5 and I've previously completed two shorter edits with no problems, using the same equipment. My rushes are on an external FireWire hard drive for reasons of space.

    Hi Rob,
I couldn't work out any quick/easy way to do it, so I just had to hack out the clips manually. Here are the steps:
    1. In iMovie, duplicate your film twice, so you can leave the original untouched and work on turning the two duplicates into the halves you need.
    2. Take one duplicate and move the slider for the clip viewer so that it shows just one thumbnail for every clip.
    3. Click on any clip, and then hit Cmd A so that all clips are highlighted.
    4. Hold down the Cmd (Apple) button and unclick half the clips, starting at the beginning.
    5. Hit the delete button. The latter half of your film will disappear. It feels bad deleting your hard work, but remember it's just a duplicate, and anyway you can always undo the last move you made.
    6. Do the same to the other duplicate, starting at the other end. Make sure you don't end up with two copies or no copies of the middle shot!
    7. That's it - export each half separately and you should be fine.
    Hope that helps,
    Nick.

  • How can I export an iMove Project if the Event file was deleted?  (Missing Media error message)

    Deep iMovie question:
I accidentally deleted various EVENT files from my iMove EVENTS folder.  Yes, they are really gone ... this is NOT a matter of restoring them from the trash.
The projects are still there ... I can still watch the projects as long as I am in iMovie ... but if I try to export the Project I get the MISSING MEDIA error message.
Logic tells me that if I can view the project ... the  file has to be SOMEWHERE inside my computer ... else I couldn't be watching it ... right?  I mean what am I watching if not some file somewhere which has moving pictures stored in it?
So HOW do I get to something I can export?  What am I watching when I watch the project?
I have iMove 08 on iMac with OS 10.6.8
Normally works great for my simple needs ... except if you move or delete an event file ...
    Can anyone out there help?
    thank you,
    Natasya

If you don't have the original files then I'm afriad you don't have anything to work with.
    Regards

  • How can I export my Imovie events?

So I upgraded to 10 and I really hate that they moved everything into the Imovie Library package: it's like they don't trust us to see the raw files. I would like to export events to another operating system. Has anyone had any luck switching from AIC to another codec? Are we all stuck with Imovie forever?

The library package is one of the big improvements - it's much easier to manage and more portable than the old separate Projects and Events folders.  You can see what is in a library by right clicking on it and choosing "show package contents"  The package includes "Original media" which is what you would have to start from if you want to transcode your event clips differently.
I think you will find that iMovie 10 no longer uses AIC but has switched to ProRes, the same intermediate codec as is used by FinalCutPro.

  • Can't export my iMovie to Quicktime in the right size.

When I share my file to a quicktime format,"CD-Rom" I get a 20Mb file and when I share it to "Full-Quality" I get a 1,3Gb file. I need to export a file that would weight about 700Mb. Should I use "Expert- Setting", if yes, what settings in it because I have tried but the estimated time had gone over 250mns.
Ps: The imovie project is 2mns 40s.
    Thanks alot

  • I can't export my iMovies to my desktop, youtube, vimeo... anywhere.. HELP!

I created a video that was 19 minutes long and just tired to "share" it to multiple different places (youtube, desktop, vimeo) and everytime it says it failed. I thought maybe it was too long of a video so I created another one that was only 5 minutes and got the same thing... Do I need to do something else before i press the "Share" button at the top and decide where I want to export it to?
Some other discussion groups said to just save it to your desktop and then import it to YouTube, but it won't even save to my computer. It starts to try to export after I click "share" and then it says it failed.

iBooks is available for OS X Mavericks via the Mac App Store and up as well as iOS. If you don't use a compatible OS X, then the broken icon is proof of that.
As for iTunes, just drag the .ibooks file onto the iTunes icon in the dock, then select your iPad, choose the 'books' tab, confirm your book is selected for sycn, and then sync your iPad. It should then show up in iBooks/Library there.

  • Can't export iMovie to camera roll on iPad Air

I can not export an iMovie to my camera roll. When I select 'save video' the box that says 'exporting video' appears but never loads
I'm using my iPad Air version 7.1.2, iMovie 2.0. I have 41GB of free space.
The 14 min movie includes video (shot on a Canon camera), photos (taken on a Canon camera) and songs (purchased on iTunes).
I've read that you need to tick iMovie in settings/privacy/photos - however iMovie does not appear as an option
iMovie is ticked in settings/privacy/location services
I have successfully exported the movie to iTunes and have saved this iMovieMobile file to my PC - this file is 3GB or so in size
The movie plays perfectly in iMovie however I want to export it to play on a PC, TV etc. Please help!
Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

  • How do i export an imovie to a facebook group?

It is easy to export to a Facebook account, but how do I export to a Facebook Group that has restricted access? The Group under my account is a Private Group which means only members of the group can view its content, however from both my iPhone and in iMovie three is no reference to Facebook Groups of any kind.
How can I export my iMovie into my private group without making it public eg through my main FB account or via a service such as YouTube? I just want the file to be in the private group and not visible to non-members.
    TIA

Thanks for your reply Matt, that is what I have been doing, but I was really hoping it would be possible to do this from the Sharing menu on either or both of my iPhone or iMovie.
I guess I shall be disappointed yet again. As so often, "So much promise, so little delivery."

  • I can't convert an imovie project.  error code =-50.  How can I create a DVD?

I can't export my imovie project.  I am getting error code =-50.  I am unable to burn to a DVD for presentaion.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for your help!  Stefan

There may be more than one cause for this error, but in most cases the project to be published includes short clips of less than about 1.5 seconds duration.
Duplicate the project. From the duplicate, delete the short clips and try to publish. If that doesn't solve the problem, see the post by Didorx in the thread linked below:

  • Can't export iMovie 10.0.1 to Vimeo or anywhere else

Just started using iMovie 10.0.1 and can't export or share a thing. Get rendering error 50 when trying to upload to Vimeo (and this ia a small file too).
Just as a side note, I've been using iMovie for well over 5 yrs but this is the first time I've ever experienced continual problems using an Apple product. I don't know why they took a successful software, changed it and in doing so, ruined it.
So my question to all you smart people out there is how does one export without experiencing rendering error 50???

Let me make sure I understand correctly what you're doing:
I'm assuming you have the latest version of itunes, correct?
When you connect your phone to itunes, do you get any pop ups? If you do, click cancel. Click the button, check for update, is this where you're getting that error message? Are you on a windows pc or a mac? If you're on a windows pc, make sure BEFORE you connect your phone that you disable your anti-virus software, turn off your firewall, disable any malware software & see if that will let you upgrade. On a 3gs, to install any firmware(assuming you're running the latest version of itunes), itunes HAS to contact apple's servers.

  • This is my first time using iphoto, I am trying to make a slide show that I can then burn to a dvd. The slide show is complete, but I'm not sure where to go now. Can I burn the slide show from iphoto or do I have to export to imovie or idvd?

I have completed the slide show i am making, but not sure what to do now. I want to burn it to a dvd, but not sure if i can do that from iphoto or do i need to export to imovie or idvd? If i need to export, will iphoto save a copy in iphoto? This may be really stupid, but I don't see an obvious way to save my slide show in iphoto. Please Help!

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
NOTE:  If you're running iPhoto 9.5 the export options will be different.

  • I wish to export several still images from iMovie as JPEG or TIFF. Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to add a freeze frame to extract the desired frame but I can't export it. Thanks.

I wish to export several frames from iMovie as if they were images (like JPEGs or TIFFs). Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to 'add a freeze frame' to isolate the desired frames but I can't export it. Thanks.

Ach... I found a solution thanks to previous posts which came to light after I'd posted what was obviously a question that had been asked before.
