Can't export landscape pictures

I'm trying to export photos from iphoto onto a backup drive and it won't work for any pictures that are landscapes, though the portraits export fine. Any ideas?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Assuming the copy has gone correctly and all the files are actually present
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

"File➞Export➞ ... as new Library " will create a new Library from the selection.
The preferred method for making the Library on your system drive smaller is to change some of the Image's Originals from Managed (= stored inside the Library) to Referenced (= stored outside the Library, often on external drives). There are so many advantages to this that it can be recommended without question. Unless you have specific reasons for splitting your Library into two Libraries (security concerns are one of the very few reasons), you should keep your Library on your system drive with some Image's Originals Managed, and the rest Referenced to an external drive.
Read up about these options in the User Manual (scroll down).

Export Landscape Pictures with Bars

Hello everyone,
iam looking for a good way of letting my Holiday Panorama Shots be produced on Photo Paper by an Online Lab.
The problem i got is that the lab scales the picture to the height of 13cm and then cuts the width at 18cm, while the landscape picture itself is more like 17(with):5(height), but i have different aspect ratios on the landscape pictures.
What i would need, in the best case, is an export help that keeps the original aspect ratio and fills the top and bottom with white bars, so that the picture file itself has the aspect ratio 18:13.
I have experimented a bit with LR2/Mogrify but couldn´t achieve my goal.
Probably someone can show me the right directions.

Use the print module.
Select custom file dimensions and enter the size of the paper you wish to print to.
Select print to jpg, enter the profile (or sRGB if you don't have one) the dpi of the final image (300 is the going rate for commercial printers). Select paper type and sharpening.
Select rotate to fit, choose what margins you want, select the rows and columns as 1.
Maximise the cel size. Add info or whatever else you want, then print to file with a jpg quality of around 95%. Upload the final file.

IMovie can not export still pictures

I have this problem, since I updated to iMovie '11 today.
It does export regular videos but no still picture projects as it used to.
I bought, downloaded and installed iMovie from the new German AppStore and everything seemed fine.
Now I have created a project which includes still pictures only, with adjusted lengths and blendings.
This project is located on an external hard drive.
Whenever I try to export this project -so I can re-import it into iMovie in order be able to use those still pictures in my trailer- iMovie works on it for about 25 Minutes and does not report any errors. I have tried different locations for storage, but none of them results in a video file.
I have deleted the iMovie preferences, rebooted my MacBook, but with no result:
The exported video file is simply not there!
There is also no video file within the package of this project.
Any ideas? Please help!

I don't know why you can't export a movie, but there is no reason that you should have to make a slideshow so you can have photos in a trailer.
You can make the trailer. Then FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT.
Now you can add photos, etc.

Can't see landscape pictures in iPhoto

I recently had to use the migration assistant to transfer my iPhoto library to my iMac from my MacBook Pro that has been damaged. When I open IPhoto the events appear to be all there and the transfer looks complete. When I open an event and then select any landscape thumbnail the picture enlarges to a black screen. The thumbnails are all visible. Problem only when I select a landscape photo. Does not happen with pictures in portrait format. I tried migrating a 2nd time, but the same thing happens. Please help. Thank you!

I am very frustrated. After I enhance the picture on Lightroom Ifind it very difficult to transfer picture to Facebook. What should I do?

Without knowing what difficulty you are having, it's hard to advise.
But if I were you, I'd use Jeffrey Friedl's Facebook plugin - he tends to give such plugins a little more love than Adobe's "quick n' dirty" plugins, and if you have problems, he's generally willing to help.

Ratings should be properly included as metadata in your exported files, if all goes well.

Can't export Photos to Facebook or Picasa

Since I'm using Iphoto9 I can't export any pictures to Facebook or Picasa. If I try throuth the File->Export path, as I always used to in previous versions, it takes forever trying to connect to Facebook or Picasa and in the end fails. And when I try the Facebook publishing button on the bottom right, it prompts me to "Set Up", but that takes forever as well and ultimately fails to connect.
What is the problem? How can this be solved? It is not the internet connection, I can still upload pictures manually, but I want to use the exporter to make it quicker. Thanks!

A window does open but that particular photo is not listed there. Only a small number of the actual photos are listed in the finder window. WHat does this mean? I'm nervous

How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

Why can't I edit LANDSCAPE pictures in iPhoto OR Photoshop?

Help!! Having just returned to the wonderful world of the Mac after years away on a PC, I'm struggling to edit my photos and successfully comprehend the links between the original jpeg files I'm downloading and the thumbnails onscreen.
I'm reasonably technical, a Photoshop user and don't understand why it is that I can't DOUBLE CLICK on a LANDSCAPE picture and edit it...
For some reason, I can't even edit my landscape photos in iPhoto (which I'm resorting to as in a hurry with a particular project)....
Is there some reason why LANDSCAPE pictures aren't appearing in iPhoto's EDIT window? It only display's portrait pictures - all the landscape pics are replaced with a grey window and an exclaimation mark '!'
The pictures are still there, just WON'T OPEN in edit mode in either iPhoto or Photoshop when I double click them (and yes, I have set the Preferences to default edit in Photoshop).
Can anyone help please?

I was having the same problem you're having - for those that don't understand... I synced photos on to my ipad which placed them inside "photos" not cameral roll. I then sold me laptop as I thought I had no need for it. When I bought my new iMac I tried to use my external hard drive which had my back up on, however my hard drive no longer works. Thus unable to retreive my photos on to my iMac!
Anyway... long of the short of it is theres no easy way. But there are a few ways. I'm currently using icloud's photo stream. As long as you have photo stream set up on your mac you can create a shared stream on the ipad with a friend. This shared stream will appear on your mac, you can then "import photos" straight from the shared stream.
Alternativley you could use something like drop box. Sync your pictures from iPad to drop box. Then download from drop box to Mac. As I said, no easy way that I have found but this does work. It just takes a long time.
Key Facts:
You can have 5000 photos inside a sharred stream
You can have 100 sharred streams
Therefore you can stream 500,000 photos - I hope you don't have that many.

The keywords are written to the IPTC data of the file. The Finder doesn't read this but other photo apps will.
If you want to confirm the keywords, examine the pics with Graphic Coverter.
What are you trying to do here? Back up your Library?
