Can't Export to Compressor due to a

Message that i'm getting that Reads. one or more jobs do not have a source media file assigned. anyone know how to fix this.

I'm willing to hazard a guess that you have a setting applied that isn't applied to your movie's job.
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/19589/Compressor%20Jobs.png
Take a look at the screenshot above. There are 2 jobs in this batch. One has a source file which has a setting applied to transcode from NTSC to PAL. The second job has a setting applied, but no source file. See the difference between the 2 jobs?
Do you have anything in your batch window that looks like the blue-highlighted job in that screenshot??
If you're trying to apply more than one setting to a single source, make sure you drag that setting to the same job.

  • I can't export to compressor with FCPX send to compressor button.

I installed FCPX, Motion 4, and Compressor 4.  When I try the "send to compressor" button, nothing happens.  I can open compressor 4, I can "export using compressor settings"  but I can't send a file to compressor to render.  What I really want to do is render a new clip from part of my timeline.  FCPX seems to only let me export (share) the entire timeline.  Any insight into my problem would be apreciated.
    Thanks

There are a lot of features I would like to request, how about being able to rename a duplicate project.  Anyway, thanks for the answer.  I still can't send even a full project into compressor using the send to compressor button.  I did find I can use the export using compressor settings, then using the advanced menu I get a send to compressor button that does actually send my project to compressor.  I can then select an in and out point and render a small sellection from my timeline.

  • Can't export to Compressor. "Selection contains no media"

I get a message that says "selection contains no media", but there is clearly media on the timeline that plays fine in the viewer. Other projects export fine and using quicktime conversion to export works fine too.

    Pentent wrote:
Interesting. Losing the in and out points on the timeline solved the problem, but now what if I wish to just send a segment to compressor and not the entire sequence?
Exporting with in and out points works okay in other projects. I'm a bit confused.
Is the sequence in question not in your main browser tab? If you're someone who likes to, say, option-click bins to open them in tabs behind the main project tab - I like to do this - then is a known issue when attempting the Export > Using Compressor workflow. (Sequences exported this way must be in the main tab, not in a floating tab or tab behind the main tab).
I've never experienced this error in any other circumstance - I export Using Compressor all the time, with In and Out set, so that in-and-of itself isn't the exact cause...

  • Can't export to SmugMug due to error message "attempt to index a nil value"

I am trying to export images to SmuMug. I am getting the message that LR can't update files;  an internal error has occurred ?:0 attempt to index a nil value.  I've tried several times with different folders. About half of the original files exported before the problem occurred. Can someone tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

Here is an update from my original post. I also wrote smugmug and they have never replied; however, I think this has been either a network connection problem or a smugmug bug. Since the first post, I have had AT&T check my modem and they gave me a new one. Even though they replaced it, they did not think I had connection problems and thought my download/upload speeds were at the correct level. I also erased my hard drive and reinstalled my operating system and restored from back up as there seemed to be other issues with my computer. The computer is apparently fine, but before it was all over I bought a new 27" imac. Smugmug has also taken their system down and installed some bug fixes a couple of times lately. In sum, all I know is that now the export to smugmug feature is working fine. To rcheek6: try resetting your modem and see if that corrects the problem. Also email smugmug and see if they'll answer.

  • Can i export using 480 x 270?

can i export using compressor with a custom rate of 480 x 270

You need a setting in the batch window (or select a setting) to be able to set the size in the Inspector/Geometry tab.

  • Exporting using Compressor problem

I have a 3 minute Motion sequence that I can't export in Compressor - it takes over 5 hours to get halfway through the process. It looks as though Compressor has crashed, it goes so slow.
Basically I need to make a DVD in DVDSP, urgently. I exported as an H264 Quicktime, which was a breeze, but that comes up as incompatible format when I import this asset into DVDSP.
What to do? Another CODEC? What MPEG 2 setting might work in Compressor?

I should add I've read a few posts hinting that Motion is pretty rubbish at lengths of 3 minutes and when you have masks, particles, replicators and a load of images (as I have) it's hard to export. I didn't know that - the manual doesn't warn us!!
Does rendering in Motion help with the export, or does that just help with smooth playback in Motion itself?
I exported the file as 10 bit uncompressed, just to see how big that .mov was, and it comes in at 4.3Gb. Hopefully that gives readers of this thread an idea.

  • FCP export using compressor

does anybody know where the jobs compressor submits get stored?
I can't export via compressor out of FCP 6.1, (FCP quits responding) but if I export a quicktime then get that in compressor using a quemaster quick cluster, it rocks along fine until I forget I can't export out of FCP, or a freelancer does it and resources get stupid until the job finally finishes. cancelling won't fix it, quitting, shutting down none of it stops the job. If I could find where the job is stored I could trash it and work could renew. Thankyou

    duh
    users/library/aapplication support/compressor/history
fixed it. now if only I didn't have to worry about export using compressor from FCP 6.1 Studio2. wouldn't that be something? if it really worked? wow that'd be cool

Got the phone direct from the Apple website, so I assume it was unlocked, and it had been on giffgaff ever since but I don't see why that's a problem?
The carrier was automatically selected as Free and is up to date.
There seemed to be no problem that the SIM was being used in an iPhone 4 and my friends in exactly the same situation (e.g. arriving in France and moving over to the Free network with iPhone 4's) have had zero problems with their 3G network; it just seems to be me.
The Free Mobile Network is included on this list which I guess means that they are Apple-approved? iPhone: Wireless carrier support and features
How do I find out whether or not I would need to manually configure an APN? I'm not even sure I know what that is.

  • Can you export a project to Compressor and keep editing in FCP???

    Hello my mac guru-ness,
I have a query, if I edit in FCP and export out to Compressor or Quicktime conversion, I am locked out from continuing to edit in FCP. Is there a way around this???
I need to edit 4 x 5 minute video's and need to export the 1st video to Mpeg2 and FLV via Compressor and Quicktime Conversion and then continue to keep editing the next video while the first one is still converting. How can I do this???
If I had 2 mac pros networked together, could I get the 2nd mac pro to convert the 1st video while I continue to edit the remaining 3 video's???
Would Final cut server help me in this scenario also?
Your assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
    kris

To build on g's answer ... when exporting to Compressor from FCP, you will not be able to use FCP until the export is completed.
If your Macs are networked together, you can do a couple of things.
    1. Export your sequence as a Quicktime file, then transfer it to your other Mac Pro, then have that Mac Pro encode.
    2. I would recommend setting up your Mac Pro's as a little QCluster. Since the MP's have multiple cores, you can create multiple "instances" in QMaster Preferences. Instances are QMaster's way of dividing your multiple cores to spread the encoding across all cores. I generally create half the number of instances from the total number of cores available. For example, with an 8 Core MP, I would use 4 instances.
Read this article for further information on how to set up a QCluster: http://visionstudios.ca/RenderFarm/RenderFarmleft.html
On your MP that you will be editing on, you can then disable a couple of instances so that you wouldn't see as big of a performance hit while encoding and editing simultaneously. You use the Apple Qadministrator app to configure a cluster like this.

  • I can't export due to a quicktime error!

I tried exporting different files and it will, but for some reason i can't export this one, can someone help?

    Ok.
You can try exporting your sequence as Export > Quicktime Movie, same settings and self contained if you haave space.
Close FCP, open Compressor and drop that movie as source. Check if that way work.
    Hope that helps !

i updated my computer to the os x and now i can't export my videos to quicktime i got the new compressor still won't let me please somebody help

You need to update the software. This is a very old version that will not work with the current OS. Did you purchase the software from the App Store? If do sign in with the Apple ID used to buy it. Go to the Purchases page and find the software.

  • FCP EXPORT TO COMPRESSOR AND HAVE IT BATCHED & FREE-UP FCP POSSIBLE?

Hi all, I am selecting all my sequences in FCP, then choosing export to compressor, then submitting the job. The job is batched (appears in Batch Monitor) but I am returned to FCP only to watch a frame by frame compressor processing window, and I can't use FCP until the jobs are done.
Is there a way to free up FCP so I can work while the batched jobs process? Perhaps this is due to the fact that I have embedded motion projects on the timeline? Well, help here is appreciated, perhaps I can save hours of downtime! cheers,
    coocoo

    Coocoo
When you export through Compressor directly from your timeline, Compressor use the raw data from each timeline frame to encode. That's because it needs to refer constantly to FCP.
    Hope that helps !

  • Exporting via Compressor - submit - failed

When I use Export via Compressor - and I use QT Pro Res - and destination is Movies Folder, then submit - then in the History window it has returned "Failed" 3 times now. The status bar shows, but never any indication that it even starts to work its magic or anything - just after a few seconds, maybe a minute, the word Failed appears. Argh. The motn project is 5 minutes long full of stills and a little video with audio. Help - what am I doing wrong?
In looking thru this forum, I thot the best export would be QT ProRes - is that causing the failure?
I previously exported via QT(not compressor) and the resulting file is 10gb which doesn't run smoothly but jerks and hiccups like a pre-rendered file. And 10gb wont fit onto DVD which is where this project will go - as a gift.
    help

I surely do not take it personal. I have learned that you folks in this group are the best resource I have. I know I am in way over my head. I truly do not know about codecs.
I have taken Motion directly in to FCP - but I didn't think it would work this time. I should have tried.
Someone came along at work and told me to use Visual Hub and use setting for mp4, and also try using the DV - ready for FCP - I did both. I really never think of it as wasted effort if I can learn by what I doing, and that is occurring as you are all explaining to me what I should be doing.
Now as for workflow - I think I did the right thing by starting with Motion, then with the big file sizes went to Visual Hub - but probably could have just gone to opening the Motion files in FCP - then rendering out for DVSP.
System settings are a boggle to me - so I just use NTSC - DV 720x480 and hope that works - so far the results in my projects are good.
Again, Thank you for taking time to explain - I appreciate all comments.

  • How can I export an SD 16:9 self contained file from FCX?

    Hi folks,
I'm playing with the trial.  Used another thread to figure out how to import mts files (Loving the fact I don't have to clipwrap them!
Original footage is in HD - 1920 x 1080.  Upon importing it looks like it converts to ProRes422 1440 x 1080 - is that correct?
Regardless, my client doesn't want blu ray. They want DVD and I used BitVice to compress mpeg2s (much better than compressor 3 for quality imho).
Plus, I don't want to pay for compressor 4 or x (whatever it's called).
I've tried Share - Export Media, but can't see any option for outputting to an SD file (720x480 16:9) ?
Thanks in advance for reading and possibly helping me out!
    Cheers,

No, that's not correct, but it depends on the exact type of HD media and your import settings.
You can't export to that without compressor 4. You'll have to export a ProRes master and take that to BitVice.
