Can't Export to Disk

Hi
Unless I'm missing something, I cannot export a simple single voice track to 'Disk'
When I go to GB Preferences then to Export, the little circle with the dot - 'Save to Disk' is NOT
shaded, (doesn't seem to be active).
The only way I can retrieve voice tracks is thru that darn iTunes - having to export FIRST to iTunes, then to 'Show File', then extracting/dragging it from there. I should mention that I use an MAudio 410 interface.
Another thought, should I just look in the folder that iTunes stores it?
Thanx
Mike

Hey Kieth isn't there anyway out of this?
Why do I have always have to go thru iTunes?
Thanx

  • Can't export to disk from Garageband 08

I have Garageband 4.1.2 running on Leopard 10.5.2. Sometime after the last GB or OSX upgrade I stopped being able to export to disk. The export appears to work, but no file is created.
It turns out to be a file name length problem. If I shorten the file name the export works properly.
I'm creating a new topic here because there isn't only specific to GB users. However there seems a problem doing "export movie to disk" in one of the iLife 08 applications. That's where I learned about the fix. See the included link to that discussion.

I've been frustrated by this problem for several months. I can't stand being forced to export to iTunes, not only because of the extra steps of subsequently copying the file to where I really want it to be and then deleting the file in iTunes, but also because it forces me to enter a playlist name, a composer name, and an album name. Shorter file names seems to work and therefore may be the ticket for me too. But I think several GarageBand updates have been released, and I wonder why this hasn't been fixed. It makes me start thinking Apple is like Microsoft, forcing me into using their products.

  • Can't Export to Disk or Save to iTunes -- but I did yesterday!

Yesterday I tested a project and under the "Share" menu I was able to send the song to iTunes and save to disk.
Today, with a new project, I try the same and nothing. The program goes through the where to save, what to call it and all that, the process whirls but no new files show up anywhere.
There must be some setting I have missed, some switch I have toggled, ...
    Any advice would be wonderful.
    Thanks

    Hi Hangtime,
The name of the project I'm playing with today is "Pam -- Just Wanted To Let You Know.band"
Is that too long or ...?
I believe the one yesterday -- the one that worked -- was "voicemail test.band"

  • How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs?

(Fifth futile attempt in two hours, before I learned there was a Post webpage – I’m new to ApSuppCom - and after I learned that I am not allowed to update previous content, so I had to back out, make a few changes, and start over.)  How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?  (Some other specs: Mac OS Lion 10.7.5; Capacity 499.5 GB;  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core  2 Duo; Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB)
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.” Advisors and Mac Geniuses at local Apple Stores have told me to try Roxio Toast.  When I visited the Roxio website, and found numerous other company products, the descriptions all seemed to suggest that most of the apps shown can easily export videos to DVDs, but nothing was said about finished digital slide shows being exported.  At future events soon,  I hope to be handing out these finished DVDs (free) to the people in them.   Any help will be greatly appreciated. How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?
Aperture cannot burn slideshows to a DVD.  It only can export a video of your slideshow.
In Aperture 3 you use the "Export" button in Aperture's slideshow project to render a video to a folder on your disk.
Then you use iDVD or another program to burn a video DVD.
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.”
Could you please describe the exact steps that are causing these error messages?
How are you exporting your slideshow from Aperture? Which settings are you using? And how are you importing the video to iDVD or Toast to burn a video DVD?

  • I can't export, then I have to force quit

    Hi.
I can't export a four-minute Keynote file as a QT movie. I get the message "There’s not enough disk space, or there was a problem with the file." (I DO have the appropriate keynote preference checked for "Exit presentation after last slide.")
After I get the error message, which is shortly after the export begins, the program hangs up and I have to force quit.
    This is maddening.
Do I not have enough RAM (2G)? I have plenty of disk space.
Also, Keynote WILL export tiny files. That's why I suspect the RAM issue. However, I can't upgrade the RAM in this machine. Unfortunately.
    Can anyone help?
    Best,
    Susan

    Welcome to the discussions, Basecamp.
What codecs have you used on the output so far? Just the standard ones or have you tried others? Also, have you tried exporting the file when logged in as a different user? (This has seemed to highlight many issues recently)

  • Export to disk compressed files only? bad bad bad

When I select the export to disk under the share menu, it will only export compressed files. This is a drag because the only way to export an aiff is if you send it to itunes. Am I wrong about this, is there something that I am missing?
Exporting to disk allows you to select a destination for the export and this is highly desirable because I don't like cluttering up my itunes library with snippets of songs or individual tracks.
If this is the case than GB 3 has a serious design flaw. Export to disk is a basic function of all music software. To hobble this on purpose is beyond my understanding.
Anyone out there know the answer?

Garageband 1 and 2 have the same flaw. 8^) Exporting to iTunes is the "official" Apple way. I would create a special playlist for your GB exports so you can keep track of them and delete them as necessary.

  • How can I burn a disk of photos with a modified file name?

After importing photos from scan device, I use Photos > Batch > Change to rename files.  When burning a disk the changed file names do not transfer with the image but use the original file name.  How can I burn a disk of photos with the modified file name?
This is what I have done so far with no success.
Drag selected photos from Event to Burn Folder where the file names were changed. Burn folder lists file with original file name.
Drag albums to Burn Folder with the same result.
In Filer I am able to change the iPhoto Library > Master > Date > Filename and then drag to burn disk folder and see the changed name but this is a single file exercise without a view of the file's image, but to use the new file name in iPhoto events I have to repeat the naming convention.

    File > Export.
In the resulting dialogue note the "Name" section. Choose to use the Title as Filename.

  • Can't export images that originated in iPhoto

I recently upgraded to Aperture 3 from iPhoto. I used Aperture's 'Import from iPhoto' to bring my images across (about 35GB worth). I just figured out that I can't export iPhoto images from Aperture. The export dialogue box simply doesn't appear. Any ideas?

Are you really using Aperture 3 on  Mac OS X (10.5.5)? The recent Aperture version requires 10.6.8 at least?
How do you want to export your "iPhoto images from Aperture."? I assume you want to export the images you imported from iPhoto to Aperture to a folder on you disk?
Select the images yu want to export in the Browser, and then use the main menu bar:  File > Export > ...
    like this:
Then select, if you want to export the masters or versions.
Does this not work for you? What do you see in the File menu? Or do you want to do something different? Then please explain more.
    Regards

  • Can't export in iPhoto 2.0.1

Help! I can't export my photos. I select them all, click on export and I get an error saying: "There is not enough disk space to complete that operation."
I have 56 GB free and it'll only do a few at a time.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Holy cow, I got the export to work -- I have no idea what I did or if this works for anyone, but retracing my steps....
-I deleted all photos that were in the trash both in iPhoto and in the Finder
-Just for the heck of it, I tried some of the other exporting options to see how they work. (I'm a relatively infrequent user of iPhoo, hence my still working with version 2.0.1) I exported a few photos to see how the quicktime slideshow works...then I exported for web viewing. Both worked fine. Then I exported the photos...fullsize images...original format...use filename...use extention....and it worked!
It was almost as if doing the other exports somehow fixed the issue in the finder where I kept getting the duplicate photo message which forced me to try the drag and drop method which also didn't work (see above posts).
One downside: The export does not preserve the original dates fo import from my camera....bummer....I really like the chronological way iPhoto lets me view my photos...without that, in my newly created "iPhoto export" folder I have to do lots of guessing as to when particular pictures were taken.
Again, *your mileage may vary* -- I have no idea what (if any) effect the above had for me. But maybe this will help someone...somewhere.

  • Can't export short avi film.

I can't export even a small clip of finished film. It crashes towards the end of the export. I have a 40 minute film and even to export 4 minutes it crashes. 2 or 3 seconds works OK though. Also it won't update the program on the Cloud.

    1. The computer freezes and I can't even turn it off to reboot, I have to hold on the reset button awhile to turn off the computer. It often freezes in the last few minutes.
    2. No error messages. Can't even open the Task Manager when this happens. It also happens when i just launch a rendering. I managed to reduce my sequence render and exports to a few seconds at a time and then it works, but that is horrible.
    3. No, the computer just freezes.
    4. Everything hangs, even the mouse freezes.
    5. The   system disk is a USB 3 disk (SID), fast, 500 giga with 380 giga free.
the editing project is on 2 Tera sata disks, mounted in a stripe format. (NTFS formatted). Rotation 7200.
The memory ram on the motherboard is around 24 or 26 gigas.
    6. The current sequence that crashes is:
    720 x 480
    00;39;53;15, 29.97 fps
    48000 Hz - Stereo,
My export settings in Media Export are: Format- AVI, Preset-NTSC Widescreen
    Video Codec - DV NTSC
    the description of Output is:
    720x480 (1.2121), 29.97 fps, Lower,00;39;53;15  , Quality 100  Uncompressed 48000 Hz, Stereo 16 bit
the description of the Source is the same:
    720x480 (1.2121), 29.97 fps, Lower,   00;39;53;15

  • WebCenter Sites - Export to Disk with Images

Using WebCenter Sites (11.1.1.6.0), I've followed the 'export to disk' instructions for FirstSiteII but no images are exported. I have selected all types in 'Approve Multiple Assets' query (including images) before publishing. There are a list of totals from the query results, and it appears to have found images and approved them, however there are messages saying:
"Rendered page returns -4 rendering asset, ItemImage.jpg. Please preview asset and check template, FirstSiteII/Media_C/FSIIDetail."
(Although this message is presented in a green notification box with a tick)
How can I include images in the export?
The plan was to use the 'export to disk' feature as the primary method of publishing site content. I'm using the sample sites to test how feasible this is. I also haven't been able to locate a suitable entry point asset on the avisports sample to test it as well. The 'Home' asset cannot be selected as entry point as 'no templates can be found' (despite it listing that it uses HomeLayout in the form).
How can I export avisports site to disk?
    Many thanks.

Still looking for some detail on how to export avisports to disk, and include images in a FirstSiteII export to disk. The image issue may be related to how the images are stored (as an asset in the database served by the blobserver, or separably on disk). I would have thought that if they are database stored, they would be extracted on publishing (export to disk) but this doesn't seem to be happening?

  • Can not export to a quicktime movie

So, I've spent the past two weeks putting this wedding video together on final cut express HD 3.5.1 and I'm all set to burn it to a DVD. I figured the easiest way to do this would be through iDVD. iDVD recommends that, while in FCE, I choose the "Export to quicktime movie" command to create a quicktime file that I can then drag and drop to iDVD. Sounds easy enough, but I simply can not export my project to QT in FCE. Every time I attempt to do so, one of two things happens: 1) after about a second of "writing audio and video" it quits w. the following error message: "file error: unknown file" or 2) the entire project is "written," but the created QT file will not open up and does not give a helpful explanation as to why.
By no means am I married to iDVD or QT if anybody has any other suggestions as to how I can feasibly get my FCE project somehow burned onto a DVD. But if anybody has any suggestions w/ or w/o exporting to QT, please please please help me as soon as you can. This is my sister's wedding video and she and her husband will be moving to colorado next week! I really need to get this to her before then.
My scratch disk is an external HD - USB-HDD (FAT32) Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, Memory: 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I have to plead ignorance regarding the firewire "drive" that you're referring to. My USB-HD is connected with a firewire cable. I'm not familiar with the distinction between this type of connection and a "firewire drive."
You might be interested to know I was able to successfully export a ten-minute DVD clip (with multiple tracks and rendered video) excerpted from my final cut project and subsequently burn it to a DVD. It didn't look like it had exported successfully, because it was still a .fcp file. I simply changed it to a .mov and changed the default opener from FCE to Quicktime and "voila" I had a quicktime movie. Too bad I can't get the same thing to work for the two-hour project.
Nonetheless, the fact that I was able to get the clip on a DVD gives me confidence that somehow, some way I can convert my whole project to a quicktime file. It's my hope that someone will read this forum and burst forth with a fresh, imaginative approach keeping in mind I'm not about to run out and spend two hundred bucks on a third hard drive I don't need.
Thanks for your suggestions. Please keep them coming if you have any other ideas.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • Can't export from FCPX!! (error -1)

Hi, I'm running FCPX 10.0.8 on a late 2012 iMac and I've got to get an edit out urgently for the client but I keep getting an error every time I try to export. I can't do anything with this video if I can't export it!!! I need help urgently.
I get the following message as attached:
The share operation Master File has failed.
The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 1328 (error -1).
    It's 1440X1080 ProRes 422 original footage AVCHD.
Any help on this?! It's urgent!
Btw I've already located frame 1328 and removed the clip that starts there. Still fails. Also tried copy/pasting it into new project and rendering it all again. Still fails.
    Many thaks

    Hi saddact,
I, along with many others are having the same problem. I am days behind on delivery of of a master disk for a client and thanks to FCPX 10.0.8, I have not been able to.  I am currently "sharing" a masterfile and as of now it is working, I am at 73% . . .
First  duplicated file, then the below . . .
Here is what seems to be working for me (fingers crossed):
Settings in Preferences set to under Playback / background render unchecked,   under Destinations / Masterfile codec ProRes 422, . . .
Well forget that, just failed!!! "encoding frame error" one of many I have seen over the last few days!!!
I was able to export a codec set to H.264 last night, maybe I try that again.
Well I did not try deleting preferences this last time . . . try that along with the above.
Come on, lets get the updates right BEFORE releasing them.
