Can't export to mpeg2 in quicktime anymore

I am using Final Cut Pro 5.04 and Quicktime 7.1.3. I captured some video recently and went to export using Quicktime conversion like I always do and the mpeg2 option was not available. has this been removed and am I forced to use compressor now? Can someone tell me why this is a good thing?
Also, is FCP 5.1 available for power PCs, or is that just an Intel Mac version?
Thanks

is 5.1 available for PPCs?<<</div>
Yes. FCP 5.1 (universal version) is a paid up/crossgrade. See http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade for details.

You need to update the software. This is a very old version that will not work with the current OS. Did you purchase the software from the App Store? If do sign in with the Apple ID used to buy it. Go to the Purchases page and find the software.

  • Can´t export to Mpeg2

I did an Archive & Install of OSX in order to get the Quicktime 7.2 version back (since 7.3 & 7.4 messed up my FCP). Now I can´t find the option Mpeg2 in the Format list when I try to Export a sequence using Quicktime Conversion in FCP. I also noticed that my Compressor doesn´t work.
Any ideas how I could get both compressor working again and getting the option to export to a mpeg2 file back? I wouldn´t like to reinstall FCP. Maybe just extract and install some files from the FCP install disc using Pacifist?

Before I go ahead and do the clean install I´d like to try to install just missing files. I already tried to drop the QuikcTimeMpeg2.component file into my Quicktime folder but that didn´t help. Any other ideas. Is there something I could do with the compressor.pkg on my FCP install disc? Could I reinstall only the compressor?

  • Can't open .mov files in quicktime anymore

I can't think of any system changes that I've made recently but a few days ago I was able to open .mov files with quicktime and now I can't. I get the following error when I try to open one. Error -1856: an unknown error occurred (filename.mov) I've uninstalled quicktime, rebooted and reinstalled with no luck. I've searched these forums and googled the error number but can't find anything. Does anyone know what might be going on? Thanks.

Actually, I can't open anything in quicktime anymore. I've tried opening avis, mov, mp4 and m4a files... all give the same error message and number. I've reinstalled both qt and itunes but no luck.

  • Exporting to mpeg2 using Quicktime compression - render problems

Using FCP Studio 5.1 to export to DVD, FCP keeps asking for file to be rendered even after we have rendered complete movie. There are no green or red bars, so why does FCP not accept this as a full render?
We are exporting using mpeg2 Quicktime compression, not Compressor 2.
    Is there a work-round?

  • I can't export due to a quicktime error!

I tried exporting different files and it will, but for some reason i can't export this one, can someone help?

    Ok.
You can try exporting your sequence as Export > Quicktime Movie, same settings and self contained if you haave space.
Close FCP, open Compressor and drop that movie as source. Check if that way work.
    Hope that helps !

  • Can't Export from FCE to QuickTime Movie w/o recompression

I have problems with choosing the correct settings for export of a FCE video clip to QuickTime Movie. I want the best possible quality (without recompression).
    In the manual it says:
"Exporting a Self-Contained Movie Without Recompressing the Media
If you choose to export a self-contained movie, you have the option to not recompress the media in your clip or sequence. If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Express simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression."
I can't find that option in FCE 4.01 - is it a mistake in the manual? My source media was captured from miniDV tape and the captured media file has the following formate:
Codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Color profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Total bit rate: 29,794
My exported file has this format:
    Dimensions: 720 x 480
    Codec: Linear PCM, H.264
    Color Profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total bit rate: 2,151
I have seen this question in the FCE archive and people simply say there is no recompression in FCE Export to QT Movie, but clearly there is since I see the H.264 codec listed in my output file and the bit-rate is a about 1/14th the rate of the original source material. The output file size is also much smaller. What gives. How can I get an unrecompressed file out of FCE so I can send it to a coworker for futher editing with his FCE.

Does anyone else have anything to add to this thread. I'm, sure I'm using Export to QuickTime Movie and not using QuickTime Conversion and from the file specifications I've given above, it is clear that a 14:1 compression took place.

    Double check:
There are only three options in the QuickTime Movie export window.
    1. Include: The Audio and Video, Audio Only or Video Only.
    2. Markers: Select whateve you want or don't want.
    3. The Make Movie Self-Contained selection check box.
    Is this what  you see?
The export will mirror the Sequence or selected part of the Sequence.

  • How can I export a slideshow as Quicktime video in iPhoto 9.5.1?

I want to export a slideshow I created in iPhoto 9.5.1 as a Quicktime video, but neither File > Export nor the Export button at the bottom give me a Custom Export option. I believe this was an option in older versions of iPhoto. Thanks in advance!

iPhoto 9.5.1 no longer can export as a QuickTime movie.
You will have to convert the exported video file to add a QuickTime wrapper. Try to save a QuickTime movie from QuickTime 7. (download here:  QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.)

  • How can I export an mpeg2 with 4:2:2 chroma?

I've done a lot of searching on this and learned a little bit but can't figure out what I'm missing.  I need to supply a company with a movie to very specific mpeg2 specs.  I've got all of the settings right except the file is rendering out with 4:2:0 sampling and it needs to be 4:2:2.  There isn't any sort of option for this in my Export Settings (using CS4).  Am I missing something obvious?  Or does this depend on the source material and it's something I can't change?

  • Can't export to MPEG2 with AME CC 2014

It seems AME CC 2014 doesn't like me.  When trying to export a project from Premiere CC 2014 to MPEG2, I get "Cannot create movie.  Unknown error".  Switching to AME I get the same thing, but AVI seems to work.  Previous versions of AME and PPro seem to be fine, it's just 2014.  Anyone else run into this yet?  I really need to be able to export MPEG2 files.

I wasn't, but after some tinkering I've found a couple of issues.  After reverting back to the NTSC DV preset and modifying from there, it'll generate the error when I try to set it for a CBR of 15 Mbps.  Anything below that is fine.  Also when trying to use MATCH SOURCE, it errors out until you uncheck Profile and Level.  The video playback server I send clips to is rather picky, so I try to give it as easy of a file as possible.. CBR and 1 GOP seems to make it rather happy.  All of those work, except the 15 Mbps CBR.  It's an annoyance but one I can work around for now.
I'll submit a bug report to Adobe and see what they say.

  • Can't export to DVD because Quicktime fails with error: 0

I've got several projects in FCP X that I need to create DVD images of. My first approach was to export them to Compressor, set the settings, and then submit them. When I did that, the first project exported fine, creating an AC3 file and an M2V file needed for a DVD. And since I had a Post-Transcoding Action set to create a DVD image on the hard drive, I got a nice IMG file.
But the second and subsequent projects all failed. The video target worked fine, but each of the audio targets failed with an error. In the History window, they each have this:
    Failed: QuickTime Error: 0
So I did some searching here for suggestions, but it seems most of the answers are for older versions of FCP and Compressor. I did Reset Background Processing, but that didn't fix it.  So then I went back to FCP X and did a Share to DVD directly, instead of going through Compressor. The same thing happened: the job failed, and I got QuickTime error 0.
So my first question: How can I get more information about why QuickTime is failing? Is there a more detailed log somewhere to tell me specifics other than a vague error code number?
Second, why would the first project's audio export just fine but the second project didn't? They use exactly the same project properties, the same effects, etc.
The only difference I see is that the audio and video clips were encoded with different codecs. The first one (the one that worked) has an audio config of 1 Mono with clips that are Linear PCM. The second project (the one that failed) has an audio config of 2 Mono with clips that are AAC.
But I do tons of projects using AAC clips that I can "share" to DVDs just fine.  Any clues?
    Thanks,
    Todd.

Correction: I don't use AAC audio clips all the time. I was mistaken. Almost all my projects use Linear PCM audio clips (the kind that are working OK). So is there something I need to know about AAC audio that could make it generate QuickTime Error: 0 when converting to Dolby AC3 format?

  • Can't export my iMovie to Quicktime in the right size.

When I share my file to a quicktime format,"CD-Rom" I get a 20Mb file and when I share it to "Full-Quality" I get a 1,3Gb file. I need to export a file that would weight about 700Mb. Should I use "Expert- Setting", if yes, what settings in it because I have tried but the estimated time had gone over 250mns.
Ps: The imovie project is 2mns 40s.
    Thanks alot

  • Export to MPEG2 with 4:2:2 chroma...  is it possible? Where are the setting

I don't see how you can specify colour sampling in compressor... can you export to MPEG2 format with 4:2:2 from an uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 file???
Final Cut cannot directly output mpeg2 so i'm interested if anyone else knows of a compression program for MAC where you can be SURE it's exporting 4:2:2 or you can specify in an option?
    Thanks!

    Hey Bono11,
unfortunately, compressor only has the MPEG2, DVD compliant algorithm.
what this mean for you is:
resolutions of 720x480 or 720x576 in 4:2:0 that are interlaced (MainProfile@MainLevel).
however, the newsest version of Compressor also offers MainProfile@HighLevel with limitations of 1920x1080 in 4:2:0 that are progressive which can be used for "HD DVD".
the bottom line is that you cannot use compressor to create 4:2:2 MPEG2 files.
you would need a MPEG2 encoder, NOT a DVD MPEG2 encoder (like compressor).
of course you can create other files that do have 4:2:2 since compressor, at it's root is a transcoder.
also, when you look for an MPEG2 encoder, it will be a litter steep, price wise.
why would you want to create a 4:2:2 file anyway. are you creating a mastering file? does it have to be a Program stream or can it be a transport stream file?

  • Can i Export from final cut in full HD quallity

Im capturing my video into final cut from a Sony HD CAM HDW-750 PC.
After editing my project, can i export it as a quicktime mov. or any other DVD recordable format, without any loss of quallity or any compression what so ever? I know theres the HDV 1080i50 setting but i believe thats for HD cameras using MiniDV tapes . Im talking about full HD quallity.
Can i still export it ? what is right setting to do so ?
    thank you very much
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

FULL HD QUALITY? You mean not your current HDV, but fully uncompressed 4:4:4 10-bit HD? Out of curiosity...why?
You will have to create a sequence using uncompressed HD settings. You can use Apple's, or download the codecs from AJA or Decklink and use those.
BUT...what do you intend to do with this? That will determine how you go about it. And know that Kona 10-bit uncompressed 1080p 23.98 HD takes about 5.7 GB for 24 seconds. I just did this yesterday for test color correcting at a post facility.
