Can´t export to Mpeg2

I did an Archive & Install of OSX in order to get the Quicktime 7.2 version back (since 7.3 & 7.4 messed up my FCP). Now I can´t find the option Mpeg2 in the Format list when I try to Export a sequence using Quicktime Conversion in FCP. I also noticed that my Compressor doesn´t work.
Any ideas how I could get both compressor working again and getting the option to export to a mpeg2 file back? I wouldn´t like to reinstall FCP. Maybe just extract and install some files from the FCP install disc using Pacifist?

Before I go ahead and do the clean install I´d like to try to install just missing files. I already tried to drop the QuikcTimeMpeg2.component file into my Quicktime folder but that didn´t help. Any other ideas. Is there something I could do with the compressor.pkg on my FCP install disc? Could I reinstall only the compressor?

  • How can I export an mpeg2 with 4:2:2 chroma?

I've done a lot of searching on this and learned a little bit but can't figure out what I'm missing.  I need to supply a company with a movie to very specific mpeg2 specs.  I've got all of the settings right except the file is rendering out with 4:2:0 sampling and it needs to be 4:2:2.  There isn't any sort of option for this in my Export Settings (using CS4).  Am I missing something obvious?  Or does this depend on the source material and it's something I can't change?

  • Can't export to MPEG2 with AME CC 2014

It seems AME CC 2014 doesn't like me.  When trying to export a project from Premiere CC 2014 to MPEG2, I get "Cannot create movie.  Unknown error".  Switching to AME I get the same thing, but AVI seems to work.  Previous versions of AME and PPro seem to be fine, it's just 2014.  Anyone else run into this yet?  I really need to be able to export MPEG2 files.

I wasn't, but after some tinkering I've found a couple of issues.  After reverting back to the NTSC DV preset and modifying from there, it'll generate the error when I try to set it for a CBR of 15 Mbps.  Anything below that is fine.  Also when trying to use MATCH SOURCE, it errors out until you uncheck Profile and Level.  The video playback server I send clips to is rather picky, so I try to give it as easy of a file as possible.. CBR and 1 GOP seems to make it rather happy.  All of those work, except the 15 Mbps CBR.  It's an annoyance but one I can work around for now.
I'll submit a bug report to Adobe and see what they say.

  • Can't export to mpeg2 in quicktime anymore

I am using Final Cut Pro 5.04 and Quicktime 7.1.3. I captured some video recently and went to export using Quicktime conversion like I always do and the mpeg2 option was not available. has this been removed and am I forced to use compressor now? Can someone tell me why this is a good thing?
Also, is FCP 5.1 available for power PCs, or is that just an Intel Mac version?
    Thanks

Yes. FCP 5.1 (universal version) is a paid up/crossgrade. See http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade for details.

  • Export to MPEG2 with 4:2:2 chroma...  is it possible? Where are the setting

I don't see how you can specify colour sampling in compressor... can you export to MPEG2 format with 4:2:2 from an uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 file???
Final Cut cannot directly output mpeg2 so i'm interested if anyone else knows of a compression program for MAC where you can be SURE it's exporting 4:2:2 or you can specify in an option?
    Thanks!

    Hey Bono11,
unfortunately, compressor only has the MPEG2, DVD compliant algorithm.
what this mean for you is:
resolutions of 720x480 or 720x576 in 4:2:0 that are interlaced (MainProfile@MainLevel).
however, the newsest version of Compressor also offers MainProfile@HighLevel with limitations of 1920x1080 in 4:2:0 that are progressive which can be used for "HD DVD".
the bottom line is that you cannot use compressor to create 4:2:2 MPEG2 files.
you would need a MPEG2 encoder, NOT a DVD MPEG2 encoder (like compressor).
of course you can create other files that do have 4:2:2 since compressor, at it's root is a transcoder.
also, when you look for an MPEG2 encoder, it will be a litter steep, price wise.
why would you want to create a 4:2:2 file anyway. are you creating a mastering file? does it have to be a Program stream or can it be a transport stream file?

  • How can I export an SD 16:9 self contained file from FCX?

    Hi folks,
I'm playing with the trial.  Used another thread to figure out how to import mts files (Loving the fact I don't have to clipwrap them!
Original footage is in HD - 1920 x 1080.  Upon importing it looks like it converts to ProRes422 1440 x 1080 - is that correct?
Regardless, my client doesn't want blu ray. They want DVD and I used BitVice to compress mpeg2s (much better than compressor 3 for quality imho).
Plus, I don't want to pay for compressor 4 or x (whatever it's called).
I've tried Share - Export Media, but can't see any option for outputting to an SD file (720x480 16:9) ?
Thanks in advance for reading and possibly helping me out!
    Cheers,

No, that's not correct, but it depends on the exact type of HD media and your import settings.
You can't export to that without compressor 4. You'll have to export a ProRes master and take that to BitVice.

  • Exporting in mpeg2?

Still learning Premiere Pro (CS6 in this case). I'm getting pretty good at it, but sometimes I want to export in mpeg2. Yet I can't find an mpeg2 setting in the Export window. Can anyone help?

..this is the trial version. Would that make a difference?
    It shouldn't.
The trial should be fully functional and updatable.
The most current version of CS6 is CS6.0.5.

  • Export to mpeg2 does not work?

I have updated to QT7 and brought FCP Studio2 which also asks to update to latest revision of which I now have QT 7.2, I have noticed that exporting to mpeg2 no longer is an option in my list. I have been through this forum and noted other problems with 7.2 and also renewed my QT Pro Key again for QT7 and re brought mpeg2 play back again to see if this solves the problem, but it doesn't.
Any other ideas before trying to get a refund back from Apple? are they on the case to fix all these issues with QT7.

Converting a video to mpeg-2 has moved to Compressor. Is no longer an option in Qt.
Why would you buy Qt 7 Pro when it comes free in FCP same with the mpeg-2 component?
If you go to the mpeg-2 component page on Apple's site.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
In big letters it says, "MPEG-2 Playback." Nowhere does it state on that page that you can use the component to make mpeg-2 videos, only play them. You can transcode to another codev using the mpeg-2 component.

  • Exporting a mpeg2 to burn onto a dvd

Hi,  I am using adobe premiere elements 8.
Basically I have lots and lots of mp2t video files which I recorded with a full HD (1920 x1080) panasonic camera.  I need to burn them on a dvd  and I have tried several times in premiere elements but it produces an error code and can't complete. I've re installed the program several times and on different computers.
So I thought after weeks of throwing dvd's away, maybe I could export the files in premiere elements to a MPEG 2 dvd file and then use a dvd authoring software like dvd maker.
I would like to know what settings would get the best quality in adobe premiere elements on the advanced settings on the multiplexer and video settings?  I put the bit rate the highest it would go and the quality to the maximum.
The other thing that has me completely puzzled is the aspect ratio.  Do I choose 4:3 or 16:9?
I have tried to use video to dvd software in the past and all it does is stretches the image and doesn't give you an option to keep the original aspect ratio of the imported video.  I can't even find out what the aspect ratio is because when I import it into gspot it doesn't give me any information.
    any help would be appreciated.

Could you post a screenshot of the error message that you are getting when you burn to DVD your video in Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 or post word for word what it says? The rest of what I am about to write becomes meaningless without that information.
The basic drill with Premiere Elements 8 is
    a. Do you have the automatic background rendering and AutoAnalzyer features turned Off?
    b. Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update?
You say that your video is "Full HD 1920 x 1080". That could be interlaced or progressive. In your case of a DVD-VIDEO destination, your choices for project preset are:
    a. NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD1080i30
and apply Field Options/Reverse Field Dominance to the video at the Timeline Level if interlaced video
    OR
    b. NTSC/Hard Disk Flash Memory Camcorders/HD 1080i30
For burn to DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc....
    Share
    Disc
    DVD disc
with preset for NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD (so you have a 16:9 source going to a 16:9 end product)
Many found that the resource demands of AVCHD (various sized project) were not met by Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and opted to convert the video to a less resource demanding format such as MPEG2 HD 1920 x 1080. Other means were explored as well (proxy methods and such). These considerations as they relate to later versions of Premiere Elements and operating systems can be discussed if applicable.
I would explore the above and burn to disc.
A better choice than export as MPEG2 file might be to burn to folder and then take the VIDEO_TS from the saved folder to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc with a 3rd party software such as ImgBurn. Lots of possibilities.
More later once we find out the nature of the error messages associated with the burn to disc process.
    Thanks.

  • Can you export as AVCHD if you use "Matched sequence"?

As far as I know, "Matched sequence" means that you will export the file exactly the same as your sequence settings. Adobe says that you can't export to AVCHD, you can only import AVCHD but you have to export to something like MPEG 2.
So what if I export a AVCHD sequence as "Matched sequence"? Will the final export be a AVCHD file or something different?
How do I check if the exported file is a AVCHD file?

Where it says "Format" that would be the exporter you'd want to use from Premiere Pro or AME.
    1.Youtube.
Format: H.264. There is a preset for YouTube 720p that you can use as a baseline; increase the dimensions to 1080p, change the frame rate, and I set the bit rate to 8mbps target/10mbps maximum for my YouTube 1080p uploads. Save this as a preset so you can reuse it later.
    2.Delivery for TV broadcast.
That's hard to answer; every broadcaster will want different deliverables. You'll need to check with their requirements. I deliver everything from H.264 MP4s, Avid MOVs, DV AVIs, and HD MPEG2 files--it's sort of a mish-mash so it's not really possible or practical to give you a set number of parameters for this one.
    3.Archival use on my computer.
You could use an uncompressed AVI or MOV (Format: Microsoft AVI/QuickTime, Codec: None), but they will be very large files. Why not just keep the footage and the project file? You could also try a lossless codec like the Ut Video Codec Suite or (my preference) Lagarith Lossless Video Codec. Both are free, Windows-only, and appear as codecs under Microsoft AVI. They're both good; they'll be big files as well, but not quite as big as uncompressed.
    4.To burn to DVD.
    5.To burn to blue ray.
Premiere Pro has specific exporters for both of these; check out Format: MPEG2-DVD for DVD and Format: MPEG2 Blu-ray or H.264 Blu-ray for BD. You can also just send your sequence to Encore and let it pick the best settings based on your desired output format; select your sequence and go to File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore.
6.To upload and sell the footage on a website like shutterstock.
Just like #2 above, you'll need to check with the specific stock service what their requirements are. They should be pretty simply spelled out, and then you can choose the format and codec based on those requirements. Googling for the particular service and other users' experiences would help, too.

I have CS6 and additional Premiere Elements 11; there I can import and export as mpeg2. So the codec seems to be there...
