Can't export to QuickTime

When I'm going to export my edited clip to QuickTime Movie it says General Error. Why is that?
(I also noticed that it was not possible to play the video (326 MB) I imported in Final Cut Express HD, only in my QuickTime Player. Don't know if that got anything to do with it.)
It's been a while since I edited movies so I might have forgot how to.

I am so bad at computer and not sure how to check everything you asked for. But here are a couple of pictures that maybe might help? (My computer is in Swedish but maybe you understand anyway.)

  • Can AE Export a Quicktime Reference?

If so, how? If not, what is the best way to send footage back into Avid Media Composer?

Can AE Export a Quicktime Reference?
No. How should it? Ref movies are just what the name implies - basically playlists inside a MOV container referencing the original OMF/ MXF clips. No program other than Avid's own tools have a way of creating this, because it would require to be able to access the media database.
If not, what is the best way to send footage back into Avid Media Composer?
Set your QT CoDec to the Avid CoDec you are using anyway, then do a fast import. Otehrwise any otehr QT CoDec will do as well.

  • How can I export via QuickTime in iMovie '13 (10.0)?

Prior versions of iMovie had an export via QuickTime option, which allowed me to select the file format, encoding settings, etc. After upgrading to the new iMovie, that appears to have gone away. The Share -> File option does not allow me that level of control over the output file. Has that functionality been removed from iMovie?

I'm also having trouble with this. The new version of iMovie lost a lot of its features and is clearly focused toward the social media side of things. After importing using SD cameras that import video in a *square* PiP format, I am finding it impossible to update any of my settings to export the video in any other format that wouldn't cut out the picture. Basically, the only settings I've found in the share option of the iMovie 10.0 cu off the tops and bottoms of all my recording. Previously, I used QuickTime settings to pick what format and quality I wanted to export in. Does anyone have any insight about how to export using, say, a 640 x 480 format or in being able to adjust to any format other than the standard ones giving.
Is there any other video software I can be using to import and export with that gives me more functionality?

  • I can't export to QuickTime, it gives message "Codec not found."

I have long sequence, in which I have some Channel Swap effects.  I get an error message saying it can't be rendered for a sequence this long (72 minutes) with my hardware (2009 iMac running OS 10.6.8).  When I try to export to QuickTime, it tells me "Codec not found." I'm trying to export to Apple Pro Res HQ.  What should I do?  I took out the Channel Swap effects and didn't get the message anymore in the sequence, but I'm afraid the codec issue will crop up again, even though I changed it to Apple Pro Res in the Render Options tab under Sequence settings, rather than just "Same as Sequence".  Eventually, I will have to export to HQ, and I'm not sure this codec lets me do that.  Help!

You don't give any details about your format or sequence settings, so I'll be general here.
    Just a couple of observations...
The only time limitation messages I've seen (in the last decade) have been resource-oriented, not NLE constraints so if your system doesn't like a 72-minute sequence I'd be looking at drive space or something like that. Have you tried outputting two 36-minute pieces?
I don't understand your logic in using the sequence codec option (which is limited to two specific formats) to control output of the sequence rather than the output "same as sequence" dropdown) options. Personally, I don't use either, I output the sequence as is and transcode in Compressor.
Simple as it sounds, "Codec not found" generally means exactly that, so I'd be looking at whether the codecs need to be re-installed.
    Hope this helps

  • Can't export to Quicktime in proper aspect ratio.

    I'm working on a project with a:
    -Canon XL2
    Set to:
    -16:9 SD
    -24p 2:3:3:2 Pulldown
    Capture Preset:
-DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal Anamorphic
    Sequence Preset:
    -DV NTSC 48 kHz - 23.98
When I try to export to Quicktime it smashes the image from the left and right. The Quicktime window appears to be displaying a 16:9 aspect ratio, but for some reason it distorts the image and places black bars on both sides. Does anyone have any idea what kind of export settings I should be using for this? If you need more info to answer my Q. just ask...I will be monitoring this post closely.
    thanks,
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.0 GHz, 400Gb Hard Drive, 2Gb Ram, 250Gb External

I've tried exporting in several different ways. My first attempt was just the obligatory Export: Quicktime: Current Settings. Then I played around with the various settings to no avail. Unfortunately, I'm really not sure what the difference is between exporting to Quicktime and using Quicktime conversion. I also don't know the difference between 23.98, 24@25, and 24. Maybe if I understood the settings it would be easier to figure out.

  • Can't export to quicktime v10 from FCP 5

I have recently loaded FCP 5 (Not Studio) onto a G5 iMac.
When I try and export to quicktime it only exports the first
18 seconds or so. My FCP 5 worked fine on my iMac G-4 with Quicktime 7.6 but it doesn't export on my G-5 using Quicktime 10.
It will export using quicktime conversion, but then I cannot get my chapter markers.
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Michael the Hunter

    Thanks for the response.
On my G4 I am using 10.04.11 and it works just fine with my FCP 5. The G 5 that I am having trouble with FCP 5 is Snow Leopard. I figured that the Snow Leopard OS was probably the problem along with Quicktime 10. And you have confirmed that.
Looks like I will have to purchase a newer version of FCP for the G 5 and use my FCP 5 on my old G 4. Thank you apple.
    Thanks for your input.

  • How can I export a Quicktime with Alpha embedded?

I have a few titles that I've created in Premiere.  I've placed these titles into their own sequence and would like to export them as a Quicktime movie using the Animation codec with an embedded alpha channel (Millions+) so that I can import it into After Effects and do some animation work with them.  I don't want them against black though.
When I Export Media in Premiere and select Quicktime with the Animation codec, the "code settings" button is greyed out.
Please help.  There must be a way to export media with an embedded alpha channel like you can in FCP.
    Thanks.

    WoOWavE_Sync_Pro,
I don't see what is complicated about it at all. I don't mean to start an argument, but making a title is easy, exporting it with an Alpha channel is easy (as shown above). Where is the problem? Why go to TIFF? I certainly would never "export normally and key out the backgrounf (sic) in AE"
Perhaps you would care to explain your comments in more detail?
If you are interested in the font style I used, it came from Tim Kolb back in the CS3 days or before. I have a link to his styles on my web site. I used to count the downloads, but over the years I lost track.
Of course, having said that, if I was going to have a complicated title with motion, I would use AE to begin with.  And I would probably use a downloaded template as a starting point. But that is because other people are more creative than I am. I am just a techie dabbling on the creative side of things.
By the way, I suppose I should get around to testing your product. If I like it, I will post a link on my web site to direct people to it. Feel free to send me an email from my web site telling me why people should use it and what you want people to know about it. And you might want to suggest how to test it as well. I used to get a LOT of visitors every day. It has cut way back since I have not been updating it. Now that I have started to update it again, I expect the visitor count will rise again. • Can you export a Quicktime with multiple audio tracks?

I have a video with split audio tracks.
I'd like to archive a copy that retains all the individual tracks so that other people could just open the file later and not have to reconstruct the tracks (i could certainly archive all the tracks individually).
the problem i'm having is that FCP seems to only want to allow me to export 2 tracks of audio. I may be missing a setting, but i'm not sure.
I can digitize a clip from a digibeta with 4+ tracks, and when i open the clip in QT, it recognizes the individual tracks, so it seems as if the capabilities are there.
have they just not been integrated yet?

Something is being miscounted here. You say you have dialog on 1+2 and then say you have M&E on 2+3? I think you meant to say 3+4 and the stereo mix will be on 5+6. The easiest way to do this is to copy tracks 1-4 to tracks 5-8 by shift-option-dragging them there. Holding option will copy the tracks instead of moving them and holding shift will insure that the tracks will not move earlier or later. Then send 5+6 (dialog) to the 5+6 output (using the info in the above referenced discussion) and send 7+8 (music&effects) also to the 5+6 output. Done.

  • Can't export to quicktime, error -8961

I've been trying to export a presentation in keynote to quicktime but it says I don't have enough disk space or there was a problem withe the file, error - 8961. I've try deleting every slide, I even tried exporting an empty presentation but I keep getting the same error (I have like 30 GB of free  disk space so I fugured that wasn't the problem). Could someone please tell me what's wrong? I think I've made the problem worse because, trying to fix this, I deleted Quicktime to try an re-install it, thinking maybe that was the problem, and when I tried to install it again it says I already have quicktime in my computer, but I deleted every single file with "quikctime" on it

  • Can't export to Quicktime: problem with file or disk full

Keynote 2.02 won't export files to quicktime. I've tried every format and even custom ones. I've tried changing destination disks and I've exported to PDF, JPEG, PowerPoint. Only Quicktime (7.02) is having this problem. I've even exported a movie in quicktime to verify that's working. Keynote goes through the motions of compressing the file and then fails at the very end.
PLEASE HELP! I NEED THIS TO WORK AGAIN!

Have you tried the remedy posted here?

  • Need help exporting to QuickTime!

Here's what I'm trying to do: export a presentation, with audio narration imported from AIFF files for each slide, to a QuickTime movie that runs, start to finish, without any key clicks and with my audio and animation/transition timings intact. I can't figure out how to do this. Keynote wants either manual advance or auto advance based on a universal transition/animation timing (no good).
I've built my entire Keynote presentation and recorded the audio narration (with effects) using GarageBand. I've added the audio to each slide individually after exporting them as AIFFs from GarageBand. I've worked out all the animation timings, and set the automatic transition timing for each slide (sadly I had to do this manually - Keynote can't figure out that I really don't want the slide transition after the last animation, but after the audio clip attached to that slide ends sigh).
When I view the presentation, it looks (and sounds) great. It runs through the entire presentation automatically, the timings are all correct, and the audio sounds good. But I can't export to QuickTime and emulate what I'm seeing when I run it in Keynote. Is there any way to do this in Keynote so I don't have to rely on a screen capture program? Any advice appreciated...

I tried a new experiment with a fresh, new Keynote presentation. Plain white background. Three words that animate, each On Click. Move In, Bottom to Top. .2 second speed. Dragged my WAV narration file to the slide. Recorded the presentation, animating each word manually at the appropriate point in the narration. Playing back the recording in Keynote looks and sounds as intended. Exported to QuickTime. Narration starts, first animation doesn't appear in time. As soon as first animation appears, audio cuts off completely. Other two animations appear, with no audio.
I even tried a different font this time (a standard OS X font). This can't be a problem with my presentation file.
Something is wrong with the QuickTime exporting function. I'd love to know if anyone has had success (visuals and audio in sync) exporting to QuickTime after importing your narration (or sounds) by dropping an audio file on the slide.

  • Final Cut Pro - Export to Quicktime Movie...

I am in a pickle. I have recently completed a project using Final cut pro 6.0 and wish to Export the project so I can create a DVD using DVD Studio Pro. I have also recently exported 3 sixty minute movies perfectly fine but for some reason this recent one wont.
The Settings I am using are - DV PAL 48 kHz Anamorphic (as Im using a 16:9 format) It starts normally and says Writing Audio and Video, then Estimated Time: About 2 hours, this goes up to '9 hours estimated' then begins. After 1% being completed it 'Unexpectedly quits.'
I can still export using Quicktime conversation and via compressor but want the quality and chapter markers. I cant figure out why is doing it especially seen as it was fine a few weeks ago.
I have tried it again and now im coming up with a message saying "The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the KGCore plug-in." Firstly what is that and is it a possible solution?
    Please Help

    LATEST UPDATE.
If i try and export one project it unexpectedly quits with the first problem, 0-1% done.
If i try and export a different project it come up with the second problem 'KG Core plug-in'
Both are from the same project just different sequences

    Hi Chadders_23,
I find if you export to Compressor instead of Quicktime movie you have more control over format, aspect ratio, frame rate etc. Compressor also has templates (for DVD SP) which you can customize and save for your work-flow. It also allows you to batch for multiple compressions.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't Export from FCE to QuickTime Movie w/o recompression

I have problems with choosing the correct settings for export of a FCE video clip to QuickTime Movie. I want the best possible quality (without recompression).
    In the manual it says:
"Exporting a Self-Contained Movie Without Recompressing the Media
If you choose to export a self-contained movie, you have the option to not recompress the media in your clip or sequence. If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Express simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression."
I can't find that option in FCE 4.01 - is it a mistake in the manual? My source media was captured from miniDV tape and the captured media file has the following formate:
Codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Color profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Total bit rate: 29,794
My exported file has this format:
    Dimensions: 720 x 480
    Codec: Linear PCM, H.264
    Color Profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total bit rate: 2,151
I have seen this question in the FCE archive and people simply say there is no recompression in FCE Export to QT Movie, but clearly there is since I see the H.264 codec listed in my output file and the bit-rate is a about 1/14th the rate of the original source material. The output file size is also much smaller. What gives. How can I get an unrecompressed file out of FCE so I can send it to a coworker for futher editing with his FCE.

Does anyone else have anything to add to this thread. I'm, sure I'm using Export to QuickTime Movie and not using QuickTime Conversion and from the file specifications I've given above, it is clear that a 14:1 compression took place.

    Double check:
There are only three options in the QuickTime Movie export window.
    1. Include: The Audio and Video, Audio Only or Video Only.
    2. Markers: Select whateve you want or don't want.
    3. The Make Movie Self-Contained selection check box.
    Is this what  you see?
The export will mirror the Sequence or selected part of the Sequence.
