Can't file taxes due to Safari Timing out my session

I am having problems with Safari saying that I have been inactive and ending my sessions. It has happened on a few different sites and with in minutes of even signing into my account. I checked the forums and found some topics that suggested checking the proxies and turning off extensions. I checked both of those things and that didn't help. Any more suggestions?

Hi,
Could be a third party Safari plugin causing this. Follow the instructions here.

I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

How can I change the settings for being timed out (I don't want to be timed out ever)?

I am sorry but this isn't something that you can set. The system has timeouts built into the code.

I am using itunes 10.5. Update didnt work on last software but restore did work. Help

After two days of attempts, Google & Apple searches, one Apple post stated to turn off all firewalls and virus software and keep trying since there were 6 gazillion people trying to update.  I have Windows 7 & Kaspersky and had to diable every single safety feature in Kaspersky as well as Firewalls and it finally allowed the download and update attempt.
Glancing at the forum, there appears to be numerous other problems with missing pictures, text problems etc after the IOS5 download but fortuneately, everything seems ok so far.  Good luck, it is frustrating!  Hattie47

  • Apple ID is timing out my session incessantly

    Hello,
I have recently created a new Apple ID with my custom Google Apps email. I am trying to manage its settings (specifically trying to enable dual factor authentication) but it is timing out my session before I can do anything. If I'm lucky enough to enough make it to through clicking on "Password and Security", it will for-sure sign me out by the time I've entered my phone number. It's not just with Password and Security, I really can't do anything without it timing out my session. My sessions seem to last about 20 seconds. I will be surprised if I can even post this thread without it signing me out, so I'm going to copy it before I post it.
If it means anything, I am on the latest iteration of OS X and I'm using Google Chrome. Also, this is not the first time I have had this issue, but I decided to finally do something about it. I know how much Apple values security but 20-second sessions? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Skip the step, you can correct it in the device Settings
    1. Settings > iCloud > Apple ID > Enter Apple ID
    2. Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > Enter Apple ID
    3. Settings > FaceTime > On
    4. Settings > Messages > iMessage > On
Basically this how you manually setup, on at a time, what the setup assistant does all at once and that should forgo the timing out problem

  • Safari timing out

I've been attempting to download the OSX updates and the iphone updates, but i keep getting the following message "timed out (-1001). Then safari freezes, it doesn't let me do anything, if I quit out and go back in, it does not load any pages and says I am no longer connected to the internet.
The only way to get back on is to reset my airport extreme (using the airport utility and opening network preferences) several times, sometimes I have to reboot the machine several times as well.
Does anyone have the answer to this one please?

Well, Safari doesn't really time out; but the server will time out, which is undoutedly the reason for your problem, based on the error. It's possible that Software Update is experiencing problems due to a heavy load, so it should clear in time; just try it later tonight.
And don't use AirPort to connect for Software Update; WiFi is not nearly as consistent and reliable as an Ethernet connection.

    Dell Inspiron Laptop   Windows 2000

I too am having the same problem. New computer (Dell Inspiron E1505) and new Nano. I've disabled my firewall access, allowed for full access for iTunes, I remain connected to the internet, I remain connected to iTuens store (I can listen to music, see my account info and even see the purchased songs), but I can't download my songs without getting the error 3259 message network connection timed out.
I contacted Apple/iTunes; they haven't found a solution other than disabling my firewalls, which as I've said I've already done.
I contacted my ISP and they thought it was a version problem. They suggested that I try to download iTunes version 6, but that hasn't worked either. I just hope someone has a solution. I'm about to take back my ipod and forget the whole thing. Good luck to you and wish me luck!

  • Can't send mail: connection to server timed out

Every time I go out of the USA I have problems with mail. Sometimes they go away by themselves........this one is not. I am in israel; I receive mail but when I send i get the message "connection to server smtp on port 587 timed out........
How can I fix this and also not have problems everytime I am abroad??

I've been having a problem sending and receiving. I'm on a slow shared wi-fi connection. Does speed affect the mail connection? Will it time out if it takes too long to download the messages? And can if so, can I change the "time out" time to a longer duration to allow for the slower speed?

  • Can I shorten the time before Safari times out when it can't find a page?

My problem is due to dismal service from Comcast.  In spite of numerous help calls and replacements of wires, modems, router, etc, I continue to have a problem where requests for web pages come to a dead end.  It happens because a URL I request isn't resolved into an IP, so I get "web page not found".  I eventually do get the page, but only after the browser completely times-out and I try again.  This happens on all the digital devices in my house. If I try the page again before the browser kicks out an error message, the second try doesn't work.  This is a Comcast problem, not a Mac problem, however, I do notice than on the several PCs in the house, the browser times-out much more quickly than Safari on my Mac. Is there a setting on the Mac or on Safari that will tell it to "give up" more quickly?  All the browsers on my PC quit after about 30 seconds but on the Mac it takes a couple minutes.  Is this something I can set?

Try it. It only takes a few minutes to set up.
