Can't fill my ipod nano

My ipod is about one third full and when I try to update it, it says there is not enough memory to do it. Any suggestions.

Hi there-
The advertised number of songs that fit on the iPod is based on the assumption that all songs are in AAC format at 128kbps, and no longer than 4 minutes. So, if you have a lot of songs that are longer than 4 minutes, your library might be the size of your iPod's capacity.
Try this:
Open up your iTunes program, and click on "Library" in the source list. Look at the bottom of the program. This will tell you the size of your iTunes library. If you are close to the capacity of the iPod, according to the GB, then you might actually be full.
If you're not close to the capacity, restore the iPod, and try to update the iPod in iTunes again.

Best wishes,

PS-If your songs were not purchased from iTunes, or imported from CD's with the AAC encoder, you might want to try converting them to AAC, to save space on your iPod. See this article for more information/instructions:

How can I use my iPod nano on more than one computer?

    Hi, China6450.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend setting up Manually manage music.  This will only allow music to be synced from the computer to the iPod nano.  Here are some helpful articles that will walk you through the process.

You may want to reset warnings on the device by right->clicking on it under Devices and choosing Reset Warnings.  Then resync the iPod to see if any alerts appear.

  • How can I prevent my iPod nano from turning on by itself and running down the battery?

I will arrive at my desk in the morning, stop the podcast I'm listening to, notice by the "play" button appearing on the screen and that absence of audio in my ears that the podcast has actually stopped, hold the big oval button down until the screen goes dark, and set my iPod down on the desk. Every now and again (maybe twice a week) I'll catch the iPod playing. It's usually off playing music (i.e. it's somehow navigated away from the podcast I've been listenting to and ended up in a music shuffle somewhere), and it will continue playing until the battery runs down or until I happen to notice it and turn it off. Doesn't only happen at work, happens anywhere...home, car. Result is that once or twice a week I go to use the iPod and the battery has completely run down.

    Unplug the headphones.
