Can't find airdrop on iMac

Is Airdrop for newer iMacs only?  I have a 2008 model

Hi Steve Hadeen,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to know the requirements for Air Drop. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

how can i find my stolen imac ? i do have cloud id.

You have to have an iCloud account, and you have to enabled the 'Find my iPad' app on the iPad prior to losing it. When lost, it has to be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network. If any of these conditions is not true it's not possible to locate it.
To attempt to locate it if you have set it up prior to lsing it, go to  http://icloud.com and go to the 'Find My Phone' app there. However any competent thief will have disabled the ability to track it.

  • New iMac can't find the old iMac via Ethernet

I just bought a new 27" iMac and I am trying to migrate data from my old iMac.
I have the two machines hooked together via Ethernet and have Etherenet turned on in the source iMac but the new iMac can't find the old iMac. The pinwheel keeps spinning with no success. What should I do here?

    What FireWire?
There is no FireWire port on the new machine so this is a non-starter.
Unfortunately you didn't read my post very thoroughly. You are correct, the new iMacs do not include FW however your old Mac probably does. For just that reason and more Apple makes a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter which you can use if you opt to use FW Target Disk Mode. You can find the adapter by going to your Apple online store or Amazon carries it to. Here is the Amazon link:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Thunderbolt-to-FireWire-Adapter/dp/B008RXYOKY/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366831510&sr=8-1&keywords=thunderbolt+to+firewire+cable
However as I mentioned use TM or a bootable clone with Migration Assistant. If your old Mac was using any verison of OS X from Leopard (10.5.x) on at the very least you should have a  Time Machine backup!
Also use Pondiini's guide as AnaMusic suggests, it's THE GUIDE for using Migration Assistant and Setup Assistant. He has also created excellent guides for Time Machine too.

  • Where can I find airdropped files on my ipad?

    Hi,
I just airdropped a video from my macbook to my iPad and now I can't find it anywhere on my iPad. Any tips?
    Thanks,
    Todd

If you have a different App that can open them you should be able to choose it from the Dialog box.
FYI:  You can not accept MP3s into the default Music App.  The only way to get music into the Music App is either to buy it from the iTunes Store or Sync it from a computer with iTunes.
If you do not have an other App that can accept the types of files being sent, you may need to download one from the App Store, you should get a prompt to that effect.
Once you have an app that can accept the file type, it will be stored within that App.

Started up our new iMac as a first time Mac owner. Migrated itunes from my PC, via Migration Assistant.  Can not find the files, any idea where they may be?

Can't help with the iTunes thing, since I don't have a PC to muck with. However, once you sort this issue out, see these, and welcome to Mac land:

  • Where can I find a g5 iMac startup disk?

Recently, I decided to sell my old iMac G5, as I don't need it anymore, as i have a new mac... I realized that I needed to wipe the memory before I could sell it, so I inserted the installation CD into the Mac, and went through the stages, selecting to completely erase all the memory at that stage... Afterwards, I told it to re install the original OS X onto it again, and I thought I would have done with it... HOWEVER, after a while, the Mac told me that there was a fault with the disk and I should try again... When i did, the same thing happened again, and the time after that... So now, I have a mac that is completely wiped of any software, so I can't even open it as I used to, AND it won't install any software, so it can't - it seems - ever be opened again.
The only soloution it seems I can find is to track down another pair of installation CDs, So where could I find one/order one from??? Please bear in mind I live in the UK.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew.

I have those and I don't need them, but I live in Finland.

  • Can't find airdropped videos on my iPad with iOS 8.1

    Hi !
I just airdropped 9 avi videos from my Mac Pro (OS X 10.10) to my iPad Air 2 (iOS 8.1). AirDrop says it went well but when I go in Photos, there's nothing in my Photos section (even though I had a 4.1 Gb airdropped avi file there a few days ago).
The total size of my AirDrop transfert is approx. 3,5 Go, but Settings tell me that 'Photos and cameras' is 2,5 Gb (changed to 950 Mb when writing this message), when there only are 3 photos in my Photos app !!
I don't understand a single thing here, can someone give me a clue, please ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sincerely,
    Charles

    Hi,
The aIrdropped videos on the iOS devices end up in the Photos App under "ALL PHOTOS" album for me. Perhaps that is where you videos are.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Can I find a stolen iMac

    My iMac 24 was stolen.
Is there a way (maybe using my mobile me account) to indtify my stolen mac and connect to it remotly?
Can identify where it is ?(IP Num)
Can I copy and eraze the data from it?
    thanks
    Barak

Obviously, you can only rely on the local police unless someone thinks to connect it to the net.
If someone does connect it to the net, then it depends on things like: do you use Back-to-my-Mac? do you have it update DynDNS and have it configured to permit you to login to it? Etc. Are there any services that you use that your Mac contacts periodically that would leave a trail with a IP address?
If you didn't do anything that permits you to login to your computer or have it report where it is, there's not really too much you can do but file a police report and call your insurance company (if you have some sort of insurance that would cover it).

  • How can I find if my iMac is 64 bit?

    Hello
I have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Is it 64 bit?

If you go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and look on the right where it says "Kind", do you see anything which says Intel (64-bit) in that list?
If everything just shows Intel, then your machine is not 64-bit, applications like Finder will run as Intel (64-bit) if your machine supports it.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT4623 I can't see airDrop feature in my iOS deviec.

Anyone can let me know that how & where can I find airDrop feature in my iOS device event hat I have updated my deceive to iOS 7 but I can't see this feature there.

Airdrop can be found in many places.  If you swipe up from the bottom, you should seen it in "Control Center".  Another option might be to go into "Photos", select and image and click the lower left button.  You can choose it to be sent to another iPhone via Airdrop.  These are just two examples but are you looking to do something specific?
    ...Please forget what I said.

  • HT4783 why can't I find airdrop on my mac book pro?  I upgraded to lion?

I am trying to use airdrop but can't find it anywhere on my computer?
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.33 GHz

AirDrop requires a computer newer than your MacBook Pro: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4783
As I understand it the wireless hardware is the limiting factor.
Macs that support AirDrop in OS X Lion
If your Mac is the same as, or newer than, the models listed below, then it supports AirDrop.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
    * The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.
