Can't Find Backup Restored to Hardrive

(1)
I tried to restore a Time Machine backup of the hard drive by starting with a "clean install" of Snow Leopard - booting up while holding down the 'c' key - because restoring the hard drive backup from Time Machine required copying more than 270,000 files and would take 3 hours.
But when I chose this method, I received an error message that there wasn't enough room on the hard drive.
Huh?
The hard drive had 151 GB of available space on a 160 GB hard drive and I was restoring a hard drive backup from Time Machine of 54 GB.
151 GB of free space is not enough to restore a backup of 54 GB in size?
Hence, I tried the following method of restoring the hard drive backup from Time Machine.
(2)
I restored a Hard Drive backup from time machine when I had Snow Leopard installed on the machine.
The hard drive memory was reduced by the size of the backup.
The hard drive showed the exact contents as before - not the restored backup - as I chose the "replacement" option when backing up.
Where is the restored hard drive backup?
I can't find it.
(3)
Tried again, this time I chose the option during backup that both the current hard drive content and the hard drive backup I was restoring were saved.
The hard drive memory was reduced again by the size of the backup.
I saw two hard drive titles on the Finder.
Macintosh HD
Macintosh HD (original).
I closed Finder inadvertently and then reopened it.
Only Macintosh HD was shown.
Where did Macintosh HD (original) go?
I can't find it.

I can't understand what you did. please give full details of what you did step-by-step.

hah? there is no such option in TM backups.

ok, I have *no idea* what you did but here are the options you have when restoring the whole system drive from Time machine.
1. full system restore. you boot from the install DVD and use the "restore system from backup" from the utilities menu. that wipes your hard drive and restores it to the state it was in at the backup time.
2. you do an erase and install of Snow leopard and then use migration assistant to migrate your data from the TM backup. you can do it during the original computer setup after the install is completed or later using migration assistant.
did you use any of these methods? if not, what did you do?

    Hold on,
Have you talked to your carrier to confirm the unlock?
What was the procedure you did to unlock the phone?
Standard unlocking procedure once processed by the carrier:
    Backup in iTunes
Erase the phone (ignore restore terminology here)
Plug the phone to the computer and then launch iTunes
    Wait for unlock notification.
    Restore the backup.

This is what the inside of an iPhoto 6 library looks like:
Where in there did you look for the image files?
Did you run any updaters pror to discovering the missing photos?  What fixes have you tried?  Do you have a backup of the library on another hard drive?

  • Where can I find a restore disc for a PowerBook G4?

Where can I find a restore disc for a PowerBook G4?

The detailed problem is that I had used the computer for a long time without turning off.  I wanted to give it to someone else so I needed to clean the data off. Before deleting anything I switched off then on and the HD seemed to have developed a fault as the start up routine began then when the Hd started the computer crashed and restarted at the begining with the startup routine and I have not been able to go further than this.  I changed the HD for an old one that I had replaced previously which had the same software system, Leopard.  This worked perfectly but on switching off then on behaved as the other had.
I figured that if I could start with the restore disc I could clean the HD or at least investigate it.  Hence the need for a restore disc.
Would this work or is there something in the logic board that is upsetting the HD and what ever I do will not cure the problem.
    Any thoughts??

  • Lost calender data with sync - aaagh! Where can I find backup data??

Hi. I synced my iphone (ios4) with my imac yesterday and lots of random calender data has been lost on my iphone.
I haven't synced for a long time so no use me trying to restore to a recent sync.
A friend told me that prior to syncing, itunes takes a snapshot of the iphone data. Can I find this? I've tried looking in Library/application support...but i don't apparently have mobilesync file.
Any help with this would be very much appreciated because I haven't got a clue as to what I'm supposed to be doing in the next few months now!

    Wow, lots of questions...
One has to use the Export function first before using the Import function.  Palm Desktop has some decent Help files on the Import/Export functions.  I suggest reading up on both.
I can't remember if the Import function will merge or overwrite existing data!       Sorry, been quite a while since using Palm Desktop, and trying to work from memory here.  I still have two TX's that work fine, and even can go online with my home network!
Once you get the data you want from the m500 into Palm Desktop, you can then Export each PIM database, and safely store it while experimenting with the imports.  Open the other account and choose the Import command for each PIM database.
You have to be careful about syncing two devices to the same account name, especially if the models are very different!  There is a big chance of corrupting the data.  When doing this, one should sync actively with one device, then set Palm Desktop to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" when sending the data to the second (backup) device.  This is why many of us simply used an on-device backup system like NVBackup.
Unfortunately, this program will not work with your older PalmOS devices.
Best of luck, wish I could help more.  Let us know how things work out!

  • Can't find backups in Rescue and Recovery

I made a backup using RR4 a while ago, but now when I need to access some of those files, RR says it can't find any backups. I can see the backup data on both of the partitions that I backed up by going directory to [Root Drive]/RRBackups, but still nothing shows up when I use RR. Can anyone help me on this?
    T61 6459-CTO T8100 2.10Ghz 3GB WSXGA+ 6cell, VistahomePremium SP1

Thanks for the help so far guys. I've found out that I can only view the backup, which is on an external hard drive, when I boot into RR from startup and not after windows loads. But now I have a different problem. When I made the backup I had two partitions in addition to the service partition (so like service partition Z:, SW_Preload C:, and Documents F. Since my hard drive crashed, I reinstalled my hard drive to the factory settings using the recovery discs. But factory settings means only the service partition and SW_Preload C:. So when I try to restore from my backup, it says that it cannot restore the second partition because it cannot be found. I don't remember exactly how big each partition was, so I can't divide the partitions to exactly how they were. What I did try was to make sure each of the C: and F: partitions were big enough to handle the backups that I made; but this still doesn't work and I get the same error message. Would it work if I just got a bigger hard drive and restored the drive with partitions that are much bigger than the original partitions of the backup? Any help would be much appreciated

  • System Migration can't find backup volume in Time Capsule

I'm having a crisis restoring the backup volume from my old 15" MacBook Pro (2010 model, OSX 10.6) to my new 15" MacBook Pro, 2012 OSX 10.7). I back up both my iMac and my MacBook Pro there wirelessly. I've had success restoring hard drives in the past. I executed a backup this morning before my old machine died. When I try to run Data Migration wirelessly, it can't find the either volume. When I look in Time Machine using Finder, I can't see either volume (wirelessly or wired). However, when I connect to Time Capsule using FInder with an Ethernet connection, I can see both Parse Bundles.
Here is another variable. I changed the Time Capsule password using my other machine right before I started all of this.
What can I do? I've got some major project deadlines looming Monday and I don't really have time for data recovery. Is there anything I can do or am I sunk?

Apple sells products that have been "regionalized" for different parts of the world.  North America, South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, etc, for example.
It is not possible to change a Time Capsule from one region to another. The reason for this is that different regions have different wireless standards and regulations. See this link for all the details:
List of WLAN channels - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Time Capsule purchased in the USA will operate from 100-240 Volts and 50/60 Hz automatically, so power wise, it will work just about anywhere in the world if you have the right kind of AC wall socket adapter. (A power transformer or converter is not needed).
But, you will have to be careful about using higher 5 GHz wireless channels on the USA Time Capsule while in Europe, since the use of higher 5 GHz channels is not legal in most European countries at this time.  In other words, keep the 5 GHz channel on the USA Time Capsule at Channel 36, 40, 44 or 48.

  • IPhoto can't find photos restored after disk failure

Recently imported some old photos that were stored on my NAS.
Last week, the NAS failed and I have now installed new disks and restored a backup.
In iPhoto, my recent photos are there but the ones I imported only have the thumbnail and when I attempt to open them I get the error that it can't find the file.
All I want to know is where does iPhoto "think" these files are so I can make sure the originals are in that location. I can't seem to find the anywhere, the information about where iPhoto is looking for them...

Best to start with a new library and this time use a managed library - if you use a referenced library sooner or later you will have the same problem again
Another alternative is to purchase Aperture and use it to reconnect the referenced photos - Aperture handles referenced library jsut fine and it can share the iPhoto library - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5260?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Can't find backup in my docouments folder or anywhere for that matter.

Desktop manager tells me it's backing up as an .ipd file to my documents folder, but when I look for it it isn't there. Then I did a search with Windows and it doesn't find the most recent one either. Some others are there. What is a loader backup(date).ipd and how is it different from an AutoBackup(date).ipd?

Help, I have the same problem.I backed up on two computers (I can see the file in Recent Documents, AutoBackup-(2009-06-24).ipd).  But when I try to open the location in Documents I cannot find the file.  The two PC's are Vista Home and Vista Business.  It's weird because I can see other backups I had made, but not the AutoBackup I made just 3 days ago before my second Bold bricked itself!I think it's some kind of Vista file security error??  Because I can see it in the one at work but I cannot open the file up.

  • Can't Find Backup Application Download

Verizon's backup and sharing option is great for when you loose your hard drive. But, in order to get my files, don't I need to download the backup application again? They seem to have hidden it somewhere on this site. It sort of defeats the purpose of being able to back your files up if when you have a catastrophic drive failure, you can't find the application to access them again. Why doesn't Verizon have an application download section? Or am I not looking in the right place? :-)

I went into my trash and selected a number of photos then clicked restore photos to library.  Now I can't find the photos anywhere...I've looked throughout my events and all my other folders.  Where are they?????

I assume that you are talking about the iPhoto trash? If so then they should be returned to the event they were in prior to being moved to the iPhoto trash

  • Upgrade to 3.6.8 deleted my History on close. Have undeleted yesterdays files, can i find and restore history to profile folder?

Apparently the "clear recent history on close" option was enabled on the 3.6.8 upgrade. Didn't see that coming.
I've undeleted yesterday's deleted files and saved them to a separate drive.
Can I copy or restore the "recovered" history file back into my profile folder?
If so, can you tell me the ''file name(s)'' that contains browsing history?

If you updated from Firefox 2.0.0.20 then you need history.dat.<br />
That file was used in Firefox 2. to store the history, Firefox 3 uses places.sqlite.<br />
If you have used Firefox 3 versions in the past then may already have had a file places.sqlite in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and in that case you need to delete places.sqlite to make Firefox import the history from history.dat and the bookmarks from bookmarks.html.
