Can't find "Check for updates" option in Help menu

Hello
I am planning to update several adobe reader installations over a windows domain. First of all, I tried to do it in one particular machine without administrative privileges (not being Local Administrator).
I am surprised of not finding the "Check for updates" option. What is more, there is no topic in the forums about this issue (?).
Please, could anyone tell me what am I missing?
Thanks in advance.

Yes I'm afraid that update must be run with administrative privileges... But there must be another way of updating a product across a network of 400+ clients without login in all of them ...
I'm trying with adobeupdatechecker, to see if it is possible some kind of automation.

  • Wish:  Check for Updates on the Help menu

both Opera & Firefox have a "Check for Updates" on their Help menu. I wish that Safari for Windows would also have the same thing.
I don't like "Apple Software Update" and wish that it was not part of the Safari installation.
I prefer to manually check for updates.

ASU is optional. You can uncheck it during installation or you can uninstall it later through "Add/Remove programs".

  • Thanks for the Firefox 4 upgrade. Here is my concern - Previously, the "Check for updates" option is found under the Help menu. In Firefox 4, I cannot find this option; how will we be able to check if there are available updates?

Previously, the "Check for updates" option is found under the Help menu. In Firefox 4, I cannot find this option; how will we be able to check if there are available updates?
Can this new version update itself automatically? How do I set this option?

Why do developers move stuff just to move it?

  • Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?

Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?
    Background:
In options I have "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" ticked. This works fine, in that I periodically receive a notice of an available update, and it will ask me whether I want to I want to install it.
But there are certain times -- for reasons I won't go into here (unless requested as part of seeking a solution) -- where I want to manually check for new versions, but RETAIN the ability to decide whether or not to install it. But if I click Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates, and it finds an update, it will immediately proceed to install it without asking for permission. While that seems quite inconsistent with my update preferences in Options, it is apparently normal behavior as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-manually-check-for-updates.
So is there any way I can manually check for new-update availability but then refuse the update if I so choose? Once an unwanted install begins, I'm concerned that if I click cancel I could end up with a partial installation or some "messed up," duplicated or corrupted FF files (e.g., multiple versions appended with (1), (2) etc, similar to what sometimes confusingly happens when I do an XP System Restore).
    Thanks.

I think what needs to be made very clear here is that when a user clicks on "check for updates" the software should bloody well CHECK for updates and most certainly SHOULD NOT proceed to download and apply any updates. this is misleading and intrusive.
I just wanted to check if there was an updated version but I DID NOT want to actually update at that moment. the software downloaded data, costing me money and tried to apply the update which could have potentially messed up my settings if I had not checked everything was ok first.
I actually discovered how to prevent the update by searching through windows and manually deleting the files but why should anyone have to go to such lengths?
the software should simply do as it is asked, not do things that have most certainly not been asked.

    Hello,
I remember reading a few weeks ago that there was an update for CR2011. I selected the check for updates option on the help menu. I saw a dialog box that said that there were no updates. Is the menu option working?

  • Need detailed instructions on how to enable " Check for Updates" option on the Firefox installation directory for Windows XP.

I have Firefox 2.0 (running Windows XP) and want to update it to 3.6, but the "Check for updates" option on the Help menu is grayed out and need to enable this option by changing permissions on the Firefox installation directory. I need detailed instructions on how to access the Firefox installation directory and change the permissions.
    Can someone please assist?
    Thank you.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.

  • CRVS 2010 beta 2 - check for update options

    Hello,
In beta 1 on the Crystal Reports menu were 2 options to check for updates for the software.
I noticed in beta 2 that both options have been removed. I looked around the application but did not see the options someplace else.
Is there something new in the works to be able to check for updates when the product goes live?
    Thank you
    Tracy

    Hi Ludek,
I understand that the check for update options won't work now. What is confusing is that the options were in beta 1, even though they didn't work and now in beta 2, they were removed.
Are you saying that the options will be put back in for the final release? If so, from a programming perspective, it doesn't make sense to remove them to only have to pur them back, or am I missing something?
    Let me know.
    Thank you
    Tracy

I don't think there is a way for Edge Code. I'm not sure about Reflow.
Why don't you just upgrade? That will stop the notifications.

  • Where can i find check for available downloads on ibooks?,

Where can I find check for available downloads on ibooks?

    Hello samantha0719,
not really sure about your question.
Do you have the the iBooks App? You can download
it for free from the App store on your iPhone. If you
already have it your ahead of the game.
Select iBooks, at the top right of the screen select Store.
At the bottom right you can select Purchased to see a list
    of ePubs you have downloaded.
Or select Search then select the search bar at top and type
in a favorite title, author or maybe even free books.
    Hope this gets you started,
    A

  • How to Disable Check for updates button in Help/About in firefox 5.0

Hi the user should not manually check for updates so we want to disable the Check for updates button also in Help/About.
    Thanks in advanced

You can hide that button with code in userChrome.css below the @namespace line.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/userChrome.css
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration
You can use the ChromEdit Plus or Stylish extension to have easier access to the customization files.

  • "Check for Updates..." menu item missing Acrobat 9 Mac

Trying a clean install of Acrobat 9 Pro for Mac on a clean Mac OS X.8.3 Mountain Lion. It take the serial number without issue after launching, but in the Help Menu there is no, "Check for Updates..." item.
Installed and logged in as a local admin. The only alternative way to update the software is to go to the products update page at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh
To download and manually install in succession TWENTY updates to get from v. 9.0 to v. 9.5.4. This shouldn't be this difficult. I bet the Adobe Chat Customer Service that I'd be able to download and install all TWENTY updates before anyone on this forum could provide me with a solution.
    Do you accept the challenge?

If you can not download the updates from the help menu any more, then for the MAC the updates are available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh. Generally you have to install these updates in order. It is simplest to download the latest first and work back to see if any can be skipped. Once the product hits end of life (and I think AA9 is there), the only updates that are provided are for critical security updates. For instance there has not been an update for AA 8 since Sept 2011. Since the releases are about every 2 years, it is indeed the end-of-life time in the cycle for AA 9 based on the history of the products. The upgrade may be worth it at some time, particularly as your OS or word processor or such change over time. Since the MAC version does not have PDF Maker (as I understand it), the upgrades may not be as critical for you as for PC folks working with newer versions of MS OFFICE -- who have gotten used to those features.

  • Error 11333? Check for updates not working, help please...

I got the message 11333 when I tried to open iTunes for the first time, so I checked for updates. But when I "check for updates" in iTunes, it tells me that "server could not be contacted, check your internet connections and try again". I am connected to the internet and I'm able to surf the web, so what's going on? I'm working with a PowerPC G5 with a dual processor. Version 10.5.8

  • I'm trying to update my iphone 4s but can't find the "software update" option on my phone.

In all of the instructions it indicates to go to settings, general, and then software updates.  When I go to settings, and then general.....there is no software update option for me after that.  Any idea as to where that would be?  I've never "updated".

See the "Update your device using iTunes" section in:

  • HT4623 I can not find the "software update" option

I tried to update my iPad from iTunes they are instructions indicating to pursue them as follow settings than general than update software
I can not find the last one? Is there any solution?

Scroll down in the HT4623 article you attached to the "Update your device using iTunes" section.
You must not have yet installed iOS 5 on your iPad, so there is no "Software Update" button.
