• Can we rebrand flex based component using CSS?

Hi,
We are new to Flex.
We just built a custom grid component extending ADG using version 4. We would like the consumers (other application developers) use this component within other J2EE based applications with additional customization like
branding or themes. --- can we use external CSS ?
grid columns, order, initial sort order, filtering, , data source   ( or backend service url )  to retrieve data, etc ? how can we do it? if this component is offered as an HTTP(S) url, can we pass in parameters to customize before framing it ? which is the best way ?
Please let us know whether it is possible ? If so, how best we can implement it ? Any examples out there? Appreciate if someone can share. It will help us to add this custom grid to our component repository.
Thanks in advance,
-Shiva

hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. It will be helpful if you have any examples of customization by passing in FlashVars or thru ExternalInterface. Appreciate your time and help.
For styling, it is very disappointing to know that we are limited. If there is a way to tweak in that will help while Adobe comes out with additional support for styling in future versions.

• Flex Component kit accessibility

Hi All,
I was hoping that the F.C.K . would create components that
are accessible in flex however it seems not so. The UIMovieclip
class seems to implement the IFocusManagerComponent:
class UIMovieClip extends MovieClip implements
IDeferredInstantiationUIComponent, IToolTipManagerClient,
IFocusManagerComponent, IStateClient
So I would expect it to work however it just doesn't -- the
flex app just wants to keep hogging the focus all the time!
Has anyone done this? Help very welcome!
Ged

Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the tip. Installing the FLEX 3 component kit
solved the problem with accessibility / focusing text inputs in
F.C.K components inside flex. This worked for flex apps compiled
with Moxie M2 and Flex 2.0.2. .
The info on installing the new version 1.1 component is
pretty confusing so for the benefit of others:
To install the FLEX 3 Component kit first install the Flex 3
Beta or SDK then browse to the installed folder:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder
3\sdks\moxie\frameworks\projects\flash_integration here you will
find the MXP file to install the commands. They install over the
version 1.0 commands and add an extra command "make flex containor"
which is used for integrating flex content into a flash app.
PS) The flash CS3 accessibilty panel does not seem to work so
watch out for compile errors when exporting the SWC. If you use the
panel to provide a tab index it will not compile. These are
documented elsewhere.
All the best,
Ged

• Where can I find the DCOM Connector Logon Component?

Hello,
I successfully installed the DCOM Connector (from CD SAP GUI for windows 6.20).
But where can I find the Logon Component?
As far as I understand the online documentation, this component is based on, but not included in the DCOM Connector.
(I have used the Logon Control ocx, but need some features of the newer Logon Component.)
<b>Yes, I know, it is outdated</b> and no longer supported by SAP, but I really need it.
Where on CD or online can I find it?
Thanks for any hint!

• Can't find camera connection kit for iPad air

Feel silly asking this but went to apple on-line store and can't find the camera connection kit anywhere? I have the older version for my iPad 2 and use it with HDMI cable to watch downloaded video to our big screen tv. My son has the iPad 4 and I'm going to upgrade to the iPad air so would like to get a new kit with the lightning connector...
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Also, slightly OT, can the new iPhone 5s use the same kit to connectt to the tv to view downloads, etc.?
Many thanks,

No, not at all but because that isn't what you asked for. The Camera Connection kit is to connect a digital camera or SD Card for the purpose of importing photos. If you want to connect to a television it requires something completely different.
Lightning Digital AV Adapter
HDMI is essentially DVI plus the audio channels, so yes, video + audio.

• Can I import a custom component from Flash 8 into Flex?

'm creating a custom Flash Video Playback component in Flash
8 using AS2. I understand that I cannot import this to Flex as
stated in Livedocs: "You can use SWC files created in Flash 8 only
for skinning, not as components. Until the next version of Flash is
released, you can only use SWC files created in Flex 2 as
components."
But now that Flash 8 supports AS3 with the new Adobe Labs
add-on, if I create the custom component using AS3 in Flash 8, can
I then import it and use it in Flex 2.0.1?
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks!

I was going through my libraries trying to find the quick test I did when I was dabbling with the kit and I can't find it anywhere at all.
If I recall this was the pdf that I read to get it to work properly with CS3 and Flex 3 I don't know if you have read it already or if it will help, but it is the only thing I know for sure helped with the process.

• Flex Component Kit publish SWC not working with Flex 4

I started this thread in the Flex forum and they are telling me that the SWC's I'm creating with Flash Professional CS5 and Flex Component Kit 2.0.0 are not linked with FCC for Flex 4.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/777789?tstart=0
That means the problem is with my Flash Professional CS5 setup instead of my Flash Builder 4 setup. Can someone here help me fix my Flash setup? As I described in that thread I can't find anything wrong with my setup but apparenty I'm generating SWC's for the wrong version of Flex.
Thanks,
Ryan

I unzipped my SWC and verified what Flex harUI in the Flex forum told me. My SWC seems to be linked with FCC 1 not FCC 2. I don't understand how this is possible. I am using Flash Professional CS5 and only FCC 2.0.0 is installed, FCC 1 is not even installed. Here are the contents of catalog.xml in my SWC file. • How to use flex Component Kit to make a button

Hi all.
i have a little confuse about use Flex Component Kit to make a simple button.
i try to use Flex button templte in FlashCs3 to make a button.
the three frame i draw like this way:
on:

over:

down:

but , when i mouse over the button , it seem turn to over frame one second.
and then the colour turn to overFrame colour but the size is onFrame size.
same happen when i click the button .
somehow ,the colour turn to what i want, but the size still the same as onFrame , no matter over the button or click the button.
can i make the button size different with normal button size?

Hi,
this is from the ADF Developers guide which is available on OTN:
if (!password.equals(confirmPassword))
FacesMessage fm = new FacesMessage();
fm.setSummary("Confirm Password");
fm.setDetail("You've entered an incorrect password. Please verify that you've
entered a correct password!");
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(null, fm);

• Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3

Hi,
I created a flex component using the component kit for Flash
CS3. The component contains a vector image wrapped as a MovieClip.
In my flex application I add the component as child to a
Canvas. It works well if i add it like -
<mx:Canvas id="container" >
<local:MyComponent />
</mx:Canvas>
or like -
container.addChild (new MyComponent()); //DISPLAYED
However, the component is not displayed when I do the
following -
var array:Array = new Array(new MyComponent());
container.addChild(array[0]); //NOT DISPLAYED
Can somebody tell me why this is so?
I would also like to know if such components can be
instantiated using flash.utils.getDefinitionByName.
I tried it but I get Error #1065: Variable 'componentName' is
not defined
Could somebody please tell me what is going on?

Hi bolaughlin,
Thanks for you reply.
Error 1065:
import MyComponent;
var comp:MyComponent = new MyComponent(); //Error 1065
//Where MyComponent is the Flash CS3 clip that was converted
to Flex component
I have a workaround for this -
I first add the component as an Mxml tag with visibility
false and then remove the component
with actionscript. Now all instantiations work normally (this
includes all components in the SWC).
<mx:Canvas id="container" >
<local:MyComponent visible="false" />
</mx:Canvas>
and in <mx:Script>
container.removeAllChildren();
var comp:MyComponent = new MyComponent(); //Works
var anotherComp:MyOtherComponent = new MyOtherComponent();
//From the same swc; This also works.
I have a feeling this problem is similar to the 'shared
fonts' problem that
existed with Flash MX and below.
Anyway, even though I don't really know whats happening, my
project can
move ahead. Hopefully some Guru will explain this.
Until then...thank you very much.

The following page says that the final version would be
