Can't find font

I want to use ITC Avant Garde Gothic Book in Indesign. It's showing in Font Book and it's used in an Illustrator file but isn't recognised in Indesign. I'm trying to open an ID file which has the font in it but get a Missing Fonts message with a Find Font button. Clicking the buttons opens a font search option but it's not showing in the font list. Does anyone have any ideas please on why this is happening?
thanks

Try holding down the command key to the left or right of the space bar and pressing "T" to see if that brings it up.
By "hiding off screen" have you been using multiple monitors? It's difficult to drag an object off screen since, because your mouse doesn't go there, you can't drag anything there. However, if you were in a multi screen setup, I could see how that could happen.
Another thing you could try is checking to see if you're currently set up to span your monitor image or mirror. If it's set to span, change to mirror to see if you can find it (F7 key usually works for this as well).

  • Distiller "can't find font" error with MS-Gothic and ArialUnicodeMS

Hi. I'm tried to verify that Distiller (both 9 and XI) and PDF Generator (11.0 SP1) are able to generate PDFs from Postscript files using a variety of fonts. Almost every font that I tried works perfectly fine, but MS-Gothic and ArialUnicodeMS both fail with "can't find font" errors. I've verified font configurations in both Distiller and PDF Generator, and lots of other fonts work fine. I've also verified that the two fonts are installed, enabled, and can be used in other applications (e.g., MS Word). In fact, I can generate PDFs from MS Word documents on the same server that use both of those fonts. I suspect the errors are misleading in that those apps can find the fonts, but are unable to open or use them for some reason. I've been able to replicate this behavior both on Windows Server and Mac OS X.
Has anyone seen behavior like this? Any suggestions on how to get more information out of these Adobe apps to get a better idea what the real error is?

Addirional note: This is a java class within a JavaFX application if that is relevant.
It does seem to be relevant - if I create the same class as part of a Java application rether than a JavaFX application it compiles without error. Is the imported java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment different in the tow cases??

  • Indesign CS 5.5 can't find fonts (..from User Folder, OSX 10.6.8)

    Hello there,
Indesign CS5 can't find any font that is located in my User folder. (MacintoshHD > User > library > fonts).
The problem is only in OSX 10.6.x and CS 5.
Also installed CS3 has no problems to find the already installed fonts.
And on a second Hardrive I've also System 10.5.x. INDESIGN both Versions have no problems to find the fonts in that system.
Only the Combination from CS5 and OSX 10.6.x has that problem.
Some Tricks already posted here, for example to put the missing fonts in the main structure  (MacintoshHD > library > fonts) works,
also if creating a special »Document Fonts« file in the same folder, whre the problem documents are located.
BUT: This is all just a temporary solution. It doesn't solve the main problem.
Maybe it's, because the 10.6.x ist a upgrade from a 10.5.x TimeMashine Backup with the CreativeSuite already installed.
So maybe I should install all the CS5 stuff new?
Or is it a problem with the Login Structure?  I'm the only person working on my machine. So I'm logged with full Name and as »admin«.
My User-Folder with my special preferences and fonts is named with another name (my nickname).
I'm not such a Computerfreak…and don't know if that does means anything. No problems at all with that since years.
    Thanks for any good idea

Message was edited by: camino07  Hi, Now, I've uninstalled CS5, delete fontcaches, restart computer an install CS5 complete again.
But it's still the same. CS5 can't find the fonts. One special thing I have to add: One font, placed in the »Users > fontfolder, it finds the »regular « font style but not the »bold«.
It's an »TT« font suitcase. (EngraversOldEnglish).
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I added here my spotlight results. Shell I really delete all the stuff?
Seems, that are different sources, like fonts and some other stuff…
    thanks

  • After upgrading to 10.6.8, apps can't find fonts

I recently upgraded to OX 10.6.8 (MacBook Pro). Now Quark Xpress and Microsoft Word can't find the fonts. They both see the same list of fonts. The fonts are all windows true type fonts (.ttf). The list of fonts available does not include all the .ttf fonts in the library. There is no font folder anywhere that has only the fonts that these two apps see in it. The apple apps I tested see all the fonts in the library.
How do I make the fonts available to the non-apple applications?

  • CS5 Bug - "Can't find font library"

I just downloaded thenew Photoshop CS5 and noticed two things in the first four minutes. My initial impression is that the new tools palette is VERY hard to read. All the tools look the same and I find them very hard to differentiate. I have been working in PS since it came out in the mid-90's so why change the tools look now? It is certainly not an improvement.
Then I went to use my Text tool and got an error that PS could not locate any fonts.
    Work the bugs out boys.

I too have a problem with Photoshop CS5's type tool. Mines different though, I can open Photoshop, but each time I select the type tool or a type related palette and sometimes the HDR tool, my photoshop simple crashes, asks me to reopen and eventually brings up a crash report.
I have requested support via the support service, only for my request to be withdrawn, after one unsuccessful suggestion and then logging in to find it withdrawn after not receiving an email, with a reply saying my graphics card is not supported.
My question is, if my graphics card is not supported, why suggest that I delete my pref file and recreate it by opening photoshop?
My other question is, why is the graphics card a MacBook Pro, that is only just over a year old and that cost me nearly £3500 not supported by PS CS5? Makes no sense, do you expect people to buy new hardware just to run CS5?
To adhere to your request to the other user, here is my system and a description.
MacBook Pro 17" (Purchased March 2009, brand new and customised)
    Mac OS Snow Leopard (Up-to-date)
    8GB RAM
NVIDEA GeForce 9400 GT and NVIDEA GeForce (9400M)
Student/Teacher copy of Design Premium CS5
Open Photoshop CS5, select the type tool, photoshop CS5 crashes. Thats all I do, is that enough information for you?
Please help as I am not happy with the software or the manner in which my support request was dealt with after the first attempt to fix the problem.
    Kind Regards
    Paul Goodman
ps. I think the Adobe staff need to be more open minded with their customers, we aren't all computer genius'. I personal think that because Adobe have cornered the market, that they are becoming complacent. If you know the software hasn't been tested enough on Macs, then don't release it until it is ready.

  • Can't find font panel!!!!

I am in the middle of a presentation that is due on Friday. I click the letter A and no font panel appears. I was using it earlier, and it is probably hiding off the screen but I don't know how to get it back. I have re-booted, opened other Keynote files, changed display size, all to no avail. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Try holding down the command key to the left or right of the space bar and pressing "T" to see if that brings it up.

  • Can't find font already installed in System.

    OS: Windows 7
    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
I'm creating a new form and I can't choose a specific font (already installed on the system) for a text field; the font I need to use is "Gotham-Book" (placed under the Gotham family in the font library in the Windows Fonts folder), when displaying the available fonts in the Appearance tab on the Text Field Properties, the only "Gotham-type" fonts displayed are "Gotham" and "Gotham Italic" as shown below:
Also important, when using the TouchUp Text tool, the dialog box DOES let me choose all the installed fonts on the system, including the "Gotham-Book" font that I need for the text field:
My question is, why does Acrobat can't work with the same font library in all of it's actions?

Here is what I see on mine. Do you not see this? You can't see it while actively editing text.

  • Xchat can't find fonts?

about a week ago I seriously foobared my box so rather than spending all that time tracking things down (yes I'm lazy) I just wiped and reinstalled.  I had my 0.4 iso laying around so I threw that in and then just used pacman to grab all the packages I had before.  However, now when I try to start xchat I get an error I've never come across using any distro.
    [deepfreeze@protium deepfreeze]$ xchat
No fonts found; this probably means that the fontconfig
library is not correctly configured. You may need to
edit the fonts.conf configuration file. More information
about fontconfig can be found in the fontconfig(3) manual
    page and on http://fontconfig.org
    [deepfreeze@protium deepfreeze]$
I have read through the /etc/fonts/fonts.conf file and all the directories it points to seem to have fonts in them...so my question is what have I done and where do I look to go about fixing it?

  • Can't find fonts

People have been telling me for years that "command-f" does not always work, and I always say, you're wrong, you mistyped what you're looking for. But I am now having problems using the command when searching for my fonts on my machine. It simply won't find the actual fonts. It will find the files that are cached by Font Explorer and it will find the folders that the fonts are in, but it will not find the suitcases or postscript files. I never had this problem B4. Could something be corrupt on my machine? I read some info on Spotlight, but would that apply to command-f searches? Thanx for any help with this.

    Hi Ali-
When I do command-f I usually use the default settings and put in as least content as possible. (For instance, yesterday, I was searching for the font Wilhelm Klingspor Gotisch and I put in Wil for my search). If I have suspicions that the command is not finding something that I'm lookng for then I'Il change the setting to something like Name...Contains. I tried that yesterday, and I tried searching specifically for fonts, but, again, only the cached files came up, not the actual font suitcase or postscript file.
Nothing has really changed on my Mac. I have not updated since 10.4.7. I usually use my machine at work as the guinea pig... which I do have up to 10.4.11. And I do run Disk Utility every now and then to "clean house" so I'm not sure what the deal is. Thanx.

  • Can't find font in Photoshop 7.0

I am trying to locate the font 'ITC FRANKLIN GOTHIC' which is listed in my list of fonts in Photoshop 7.0. However, when I go to program files/common files/adobe/fonts - i don't see it listed. I need to use this font in Word. Any suggestions on where I can locate and export it?
    Many thanks in advance.
    S

I agree. Before upgrading to v7 I had created a smart playlist containing all podcasts with a 0 playcount (new podcasts) which I could shuffle and listen to multiple episodes without touching anything, now i have to select and individually play each episode... very annoying, not to mention dangerous when I'm trying to drive while listening to podcasts on my iPod.

  • CS3 crashes whenever opening old docs where it can't find font

Illustrator CS3 crashes every time I try to open a document that has fonts in it that are no longer on my computer. I need to work on those files. What could be the solution?

You might try cleaning your font caches. Linotype's Font Explorer is free and will do that for you (as well as manage your fonts, if you choose to let it. I'm sure there are other apps that just clean font caches if that's what you prefer) Shut down all Adobe stuff and from the "tools" menu in FontExplorer, "clean application font caches" and "clean system font caches"

  • Can hardly read tiny font on my Juno email page and can't find how to change font size or color, which is light blue.

That's it in a nutshell. I never had this problem with IE, but when I changed to Firefox suddenly there's all my emails listed in tiny blue font. Can't find anything on the Address Bar to change it.
When I open the emails, they're fine--but the page listing them is awful. And light blue font on white background makes reading it more painful on the eyes.

My wife had the same problem. Click on the tools icon in your web browser and go to the "zoom" feature. You can adjust the font size there.

  • Can You Change the Highlighted Button in the Find Font Palette?

I have several hundred spreads that I converted from Quark to InDesign CC and a few fonts are missing, so I need to replace them. I can use the "Find/Replace" window to take care of most of them using the "find format" function, but one doesn't show up as a choice, so I have to change it using the Find Font palette. I select the missing font name and then select the replacement. Then, if I hit the "enter" button on the keyboard, the palette closes because the highlighted button is the "Done" button. Is there a way to change the highlighted button to the "Change All" one?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    John,
Thanks for the reply. I tried using the tab key and although it does change the highlighted button, you can't just press "enter" to select it. I also tried ALT+A (option+A) and it did nothing. I should have mentioned that I'm using a Mac.
