Can't find help for this

I have a few problems. A few of my apps do not start at launch, and some of my system preferences won't display. I also am having trouble installing .dmg files but not .bin files. All installers seem to work fine but I can't get passed the screen that says "I accept" and I can't get to the "select destination" part of the installers.
Even my Software updater won't search for new updates. I know there's a new combo update intel 10.4.11, but I can't even install that when I download the standalone update.
Also if this helps, I installed Safari beta 3, and uninstalled it after some of my apps started not to launch. Since then it seems my system is only half working. apps that won't really work include video apps like vlc player and quicktime won't play properly also my chat client adium to name a few.
(ive also re-installed these softwares more than once)
I've rebooted to my install disk, used the disk utility, tried to install the combo update...still no luck.
Is there a way to fix this problem? should I post crash logs for my vlc?
I've researched a bit about safari beta 3 but nothing exactly like what is going on with me (from most of what I've read, it disturbes itunes) but my itunes is fine.
Can anyone help?

Hi Astrinax,
For apps that don't start at launch. Go to System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items. To have a particular app boot at launch simply click the + box which will prompt a dialog window, just navigate to the app you wish to boot when you power up your Mac. That should take care of that.
System Preferences won't display and you are having trouble installing software... could it be that your drive is full? Anything less then 15% is bad. To find this information, open any Finder window. The available disk space is displayed at the bottom of the window. It takes 15% just to boot a Mac.
For applications that aren't behaving as they should try trashing the preference file. Example, for Quicktime... locate these files: com.apple.quicktime.plist and com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
They are located here: /Home/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate those files, drag them to the trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Do that for any app that is working properly. It's ok to trash a pref file, your Mac will create a new one for you. You can also do this for the com.apple.softwareupdate.plist file.
You mentioned you ran Disk Utility but did you actually use Disk First Aid to Verify for errors on the drive? If not... go here for instructions on how to do that: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
If none of the above works, you might try an Archive and Reinstall from the system restore disk(s)

I have multiple adobe Ids and can't find the one that I have used for creative cloud. I can't find help for that.

I signed in to check on my creative cloud subscription and don't see it. I must have used a different Adobe ID but for the life of me don't remember what it could have been other than what I signed in as. I can find no way to contact Adobe for this.

I have a charge on my itunes account that I did not authorize. Finding help for this type of problem from Apple or itunes is impossible. Who do I contact to get this charge taken off my account?

My checking account was debited by itunes for a subscription i did not order. How do I go about having it taken off? The entire Apple website and the itunes website is competely non-helpful for resolving problems. They should make their site equally as unfriendly when it comes to enticing you to buy their products.

You could simply type "Contact itunes support" into the google search bar. This would give you the link to contact itunes support.
Or you could just click the word Support at the top of this page, then click the link under Contact Apple Support.

I can't find documentation for this app

Where is the documentation for GarageBand for iOS? I installed it on my iPod, but the interface is confusing, so I need to find the right manual. All the manuals for GB on the Apple manuals page seem to be for desktops and laptops, etc.
I know there are help files, but I do not have a wireless account so I can't access the Internet from my iPod.

Download the pages on a computer, that has internet and print them to pdf, then combine them to one pdf document and sync that document as an iBook to your iPod using iTunes.

I have allowed my father to buy from my credit card in iTunes because he cannot get the same TV shows in Canada that are offered in the USA on the iTunes site(ie.Law and Order ect..), so we he signs in to iTunes, it automatically downloads TV seasons that I have bought onto his computer, so im SOL...he lives 5000 miles away so its not like I can head over there and get it off his computer. Anybody have any idea how I can get the episodes I have bought onto mine without buying them again, or have any other solutions to my problems. Thank you.

When he downloads the shows they are keyed to his computer. While you can't re-download anything from the iTunes Store, you could get a hold of the files and then get your computer authorized to play them (I think you would need his password). This works with up to five computers, which can be cleared out once per year (so you can release computers you no longer use and authorize five others).

If you installed Oracle9iDS you'll have everything configured for you. (It basically work the same way as the Oracle9iAS Forms Services so all the documents are still relevant). That usually happens when trying to install Mac software intended for Intel-powered Macs (made in 2006 through present) on a PowerPC mac like teh powerbook (made before 2006).
You post is a little cryptic, however. We may be of further help if you can tell us:
<> the PowerBook's processor type (G3 or G4) and the Mac OS version, both available by doing "About the Mac" from your Apple menu.
<> what program and its version your were trying to run and/or install.

There are a few things to try and the article below can walk you through them before trying to hunt down a Snow Leopard install disk. I will say that it may come down to reinstall Snow Leopard but also before any troubleshooting, make sure to have a safe copy of your data.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

If you can't do that either, then you will probably need to reinstall 10.6.

HELP! "unable to find driver for this platform: 'ACPI'."

I was updating my Macbook Pro's software today the standard way and when/after it was installing the latest Mac OS X, my laptop shut off and now it won't boot up. A screen comes on that says "you need to restart your computer..." (which i did, but this message keeps popping up). on the same screen, it says stuff like panic: unable to find driver for this platform, debugger called, and displays all these numbers and letters. i don't know what is wrong or how to fix it. did my computer crash when installing the updated software/platform? PLEASE HELP!

If I may put in just one work of caution. Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature explains the procedure for the installation option. However, although you can choose to save your settings and preferences, and although all third party apps in the Applications folder are saved, as well as your Users Folder, the article starts out by suggesting that you backup. That is because if anything goes wrong, as you already know it can, you can likely lose all your data, or if it can be rescued, not without cost and a lot of time.
If you don't have a reliable, up-to-date backup I suggest that you use SuperDuper to clone the entire HDD to an external HDD. You can do that by using Firewire Target Disk Mode and connecting an external HDD to the host computer.

I need serious help! 'computer is unable to find driver for this platform'

i was just manually upgrading my OS X 10.4.7 mac mini to OS X 10.4.9 when halfway through the upgrade installation the computer froze and i had to reset it.
now everytime i turn on the computer it comes up with an error message saying:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0039C213): Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI"
the only option it gives me is to restart the computer which doesn't help.
can anyone please tell me how i can fix this?

Well. I think you have only two option left:
Archive and Install: will re-install OS X preserving users and files.
Re-install 10.4.9 Combo Update: In order to do this, you either need another Mac running Tiger and capable of starting in FireWire Target Disk Mode and a FireWire cable, or an external bootable HD.
If you have another Mac that supports FireWire Target Disk Mode, you can proceed as follows:
In the working Mac (the Target machine) download the appropriate 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC or Intel). Leave it on the Desktop. Do not run it.
Follow the steps of this article.
Once your Mini has booted from the Target machine disk, run the 10.4.9 Combo Update, selecting as the destination of the install the Mini's Hard Drive.
If you have a bootable external Hard Drive, (with OS X installed on it) boot from it (hold the Option key at startup), download the Combo Update and install it to the internal HD.
If you don't have a bootable external HD, you can still re-install the Combo Update booting from the Tiger install disk, and using an USB thumb drive (sometimes it may need to be formatted as HFS), following this cumbersome procedure.

I am havin problem with sound in my Compaq presario V6406TU. When i try to install, it says "can not install the driver: could not find media for this driver", how ever i get a beep for every error message. In my device manager there is no UAA and in services.msc windows audio is started.

Yes, I've seen a true SB0220 too on a picture after writing that comment so there is true SB0220 model. But, are you sure your card is SB0220? Did you look the number from a sticker on card board w/ serial number lik MSB022xxxxxxxxxxx where the SB022x is the true model number for your card.
Why you didn't got drivers installed for your card is, because the installer doesn't support the model SB0220 (supported cards are listed in ctcomp.dat -> this is the file ctcomp.exe patches).
IIrc, those drivers are the latest ones for your card. If you like to, you can try soft-mod your card the way, you can use Audigy series drivers (which are a bit newer) -> http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/audigy-2.php (i.e. you just use ctcomp.exe utility to patch the installer for Audigy drivers (use these drivers st - http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/creative/%20audigy%205.2.0.042.exe) (newer installer maybe can't be patched w/ ctcomp).
