Can't find (hidden?) file to remove

I am using microsoft remote desktop 8.0.5 with OS X 10.9.2 to connect to my company's demo server.  The connection fails when I try to access the server and generates a message that includes this snippet:
Exception caught: Exception in file '../../librdp/legacytcpstreamadapter.cpp' at line 322
User Message : Failed to read from socket: -1
The Microsoft support forums seem to indicate that some file(s) in the MS Remote Desktop app may be from an older version and/or corrupt, so I have removed the app and re-installed several times using AppCleaner and AppDelete to try to get all the files.  I even spent 45 minutes at the Genius Bar with one of the Geniuses to try to resolve it, with no luck.
I'm thinking that rather than try to find and delete this file (which I am unable to do), what I need to do is re-install the default OSX version of MS Remote Desktop, and then run AppCleaner on it to get rid of it.
Any guidance on how to resolve this issue would be appreciated, as it is interfering with my ability to do my job!  So here are my questions:
How can I find and remove legacytcpstreamadapter.cpp?
How can I re-install the default OSX version of MS Remote Desktop?
Does anyone have experience resolving this question that would help me otherwise?
Thanks!

There is no "default OS X version of MS Remote Desktop".  Apple does not ship any RDP tool with the OS.
It's a free download from Microsoft.  It also comes with Office.
The error message you are receiving refers to a source code file, not a file shipped with the application.

Toast 7.1.2. is failing to respond, and the finder can't not force quit app.
I was in the process of making a backup CD, when it crashed, but it would not quit, the finder kept saying application not responding, I had to force shut-down my Mac to clear it.
Next I thought OK I'll trash the pref.'s and try again, but this didn't work either, I had to once again force restart my Mac.
3rd time a charm, not on your life, I next removed and deleted anything with Toast, or Roxio on it and re-installed the app to try again, but, that's right, "application not responding", I had to force shut-down my Mac once again. I removed once again Toast and ran Spring Cleaning looking for any leftover files, but can't find any. Somewhere there must a be a file(s) that is causing it to hang that I can't find to help clear this problem. Both Spotlight and Apple search feature were unable to find or show any hidden files. Has anyone who has had this problem gotten it fixed?
I was able to backup those files I attempting to backup with Toast using Apple's Burn app after Toast became TOAST, so my CD-R is working fine.

Roxio replied and advised that I needed to disconnect all external devices (except keyboard and mouse) and then re-install, this fixed the problem. and it works fine now with everything plugged back in.

  • Can't Find Hidden Files Created by .rar file

I downloaded a .rar file that when I expanded the file using Stuffit, it asked me where I want to save them, and I told it, and it expanded 13 files, but I can't seem to find the folder that Stuffit would have created, not the 13 files. I've tried the show hidden files command "defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES" but that didn't seem to help... Anyone know how I might access these?

If the filename starts with a dot (.thisfile), then it will be hidden on the Mac.
You can use a 3rd party App, such as EasyFind to search for the file on your Mac, and then re-name (remove the dot)

  • TS1362 My iTunes has stopped playing - it will not progress. I have updated iTunes, and can't figure out how to find any plug-ins - can't figure out how to find hidden files on the iMac Finder.

How do I find hidden files on my iMac? My iTunes has stopped playing music and videos - the playbar does not progress, and it may be that there is a plug-in that is stopping it. How do I fix it?

Well, it sort of solved my problem. Now every time I start a lecture with sound, there is no sound, but the slides advance. If I go back to iTunes and turn on a cd, it plays the sound. If I then go back to the lecture, the sound goes on. So each time I start a slide show with sound, I have to turn on iTunes. How can I fix this?

  • Had to uninstall Firefox, now I can't reinstall. Get error message "Can not find archive file." Please help!

I believe I had some kind of virus attack. I got everything cleaned up. (I HOPE) In the process of cleaning the virus, I unintalled Firefox because it wouldn't open. Kept getting the error message that Firefox was already open and I had to close out of the sessions or restart the computer. After restarting the computer several times and not being able to find any open sessions in task manager, I uninstalled. When trying to reinstall, I get the error message "can not find archive file." I've tried downloading Firefox from cnet as well as the Mozilla site to no avail. Please help. I'm getting tired of using Chrome already!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

My computer is saying it can't find the file 'iTunes64.msi' when I try to update or redownload iTunes how do I fix this? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I am using a dell laptop running windows 7 and have tried changing the file location to run the update in all of my iTunes files as well as when I've tried reinstalling it.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

When I click "about this mac" to check on my storage, I get a number of different sections music, movies, etc. but also I get a section called backups, where can I find the files in this section?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
All the storage in "Backups" is taken up by local snapshots, which are made automatically in all MacBooks, MacBooks Pro and MacBooks Air with OS X Lion or newer and Time Machine turned on.
See > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html I recommend you to leave them there, because they will be removed automatically. However, if you want, you can disable or remove them manually if you want, even if there's no reason to do this. Have a look at the link above for more information

  • I upgraded my computer, new OS on a new hard drive. Want to get my bookmarks off Firefox off my old drive, but can't find the file.

I upgraded my computer, by adding a second hard drive for a new OS, and kept the old drive as the data drive. I assumed that I could install Firefox on the new drive and import my bookmarks from the old Mozilla install on the old drive. I can't find the files on the old drive with my bookmarks. Should they still be there, or when I reinstalled Firefox, did I lose everything even though it was on another drive? I can't find any backup files on the old drive, and would like to restore my old bookmarks. Is there any way to do this?

You need find your profile folder in the old drive, the way must be:
    # First show the hidden files and folder:
    # Then go to:
    #*<old drive>:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
    # Enter in your profile, then enter in the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder.
    # Copy the most recent json file(bookmarks backup)
    # Then restore from them:

  • Script Alert: can't find .js files even though they're in the folder that the program looked in to?

I'm new to the whole After Effects community and I am currently using it for a project.
I followed a tutorial by Mt. Mograph on youtube and I downloaded the script "Ease and Wizz".
I have it as a panel and all, but every time I attempt to apply my desired expression, a popup box says that there is a script alert and it can't find the file for the expression.
Is there something that I'm doing wrong? I have tried to remove the script and download it again, but nothing has worked for me.

Try to copy "easingExpressions" folder that came with the script into this folder:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC 2014\Support Files\Scripts\ScriptUI Panels\

  • Can't find my files on external hard drive

My old computer (iBook G4) recently died, and I extracted the Hard drive from the computer. I got an external enclosure for the hard drive and got it up and running, and it shows up on my MacBook Pro.
My problem is that I can't find the files I really want, which were in the "Users" file. I can get to the Users file, and it says that there is 15GB in the folder, but when I open it there only like two files, and I even checked the hidden folders and they simply weren't there. Any ideas?

I'm guessing it's related to Permissions have you tried repairing them on the old volume ?
Did you try running Migration Assistant to see if it can see the content you want to bring over ?

  • Finder can't find / display files in external drive

Just upgraded to Lion on my MacBook, and Finder can't find / display files from my external thumb drive. I got message that the external drive was removed incorrectly, but I did not remove the thumb drive at all. After several attempts on removing and inserting the thumb drive, the files just didn't show up under Finder, and I have no way of working on files from external drive. I went to a Window based notebook and checked, the files are still in my thumb drive so they have not been corrupted, hopefully. How can I make Finder works with external drive in Lion ?

The problem I have was finally resolved by having a "clean" install for Lion, meaning to back up your hard disc, re-install Snow Leopard, then Lion. It's a lot of work but my MacBook is now working.

  • Can't find the file ?php echo $editFormAction; ? in XAMPP

I used the insert record function in CS4 on a page I'm working on.  I'm running XAMPP in win XP.
Whenever I load the page into firefox, fill out the forms with random data, and click the submit button, I get the following error:
    can't find the file at /C:/xampp/htdocs/MySite.com/<?php echo $editFormAction; ?>
I have been trying to research this a bit myself, and I think the problem may simply be that the editFormAction script is not in the root folder of my site.  But I am not sure where it is, and so, what to change the reference to.
Or perhaps I'm completely wrong about this???
    Please Help Me!!

Well, I have to chuckle a bit because the article on how to set up a php testing server that you wrote is the exact one I read to set up my testing server!  It is very well written and probably the most helpful and straight foreward article on setting up dreamweaver with XAMPP on the web.  I followed all of the instructions exactly, so I imagine the problem must be elsewhere?  It's pointing to the C drive because that's where XAMPP is installed.  This is how is it supposed to be setup, correct?  Apache and MySQL are running, or at least it says so on the XAMPP control panel.
Also, I apologize for not posting this in the right forum.  That was my first post on the adobe boards and I didn't really consider inserting records to a database to be an "application."  So thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
for those who want to see my code, here it is.  Except for the exact names of the fields, it's exactly what dreamweaver creates when youc click on the "insert record" button in the insert menu.  I don't see any option for pasting the code as "code" like in most code devolpoer forums.  I know some poeple get upset if you paste code without doing it right, so I hope I'm not making anybody mad.
