  • Can't find home drive after reinstallation of O.S.X

    Dear friends,
I have one ibook G4 and a Macbook Pro. Two days ago, the ibook G4 failed to start up, I tried in safe mode then pass through. Then I run Onyx-automation followed by restart, after that neither my desktop nor the sidebar of the finder window show the home drive icons,( I partitioned the internal hard disk into two drives). But when I run Disk utility and found both are there correctly, including the files and capacity, usage etc. it tested both drives "appears OK". Yesterday, I tried to reinstall O.S.X Tiger 10.4 without removing previous system via a firewire to my Macbook Pro which installed with Leopard( the disc drive of my ibookG4 corrupted last year).
finally, the hard drives are still invisible, I did tick the display options for hard disks from the preference panel of Finder. To the worse, the same problem happened to my Macbook Pro after I restarted it.
It seems a simply software issue, physically the hard disks are ok through the disk verify and permission verify.
    Headache! Please advise ASAP.
    thank you,

what happens when you enter commandshiftc in finder? that should show all the drives. if it doesn't, maybe the drive has acquired the hidden flag. run the following command in terminal
    sudo chflags 0 /
you'll have to enter your admin password which you won't see as you type it. that's normal. see if the drive shows up.

these permissions look fine. sorry, i don't know what the problem is or why the drive would not show in finder. does it happen on all accounts? make a new one and check from there.

    hi, V.K.
after running the two commands, suddenly, The Macintosh HD icon showed up at both desktop and sidebar in finder, but the other drive (I partition into two parts) still not showing. Then I open Onyx and tick the "unhidden those hidden files", I found that drive. So I conclude it was hidden by sth. But I don't know how to unhidden it, the icon always in grey.
    Can you please instruct again.
    thank you.

aha, so it was a hidden flag after all. then run
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
you may need to restart after that to make the second drive show up.

I don't have a source attribute for this (maybe I wrote it myself!):
There are visibility toggling instructions at [this web site|http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html] using Terminal or Applescript.
If you don't like Applescript or Terminal there is an application called [JuhOS X|http://www.saunalahti.fi/~juhruo/juhosx> that lets you toggle visibility on individual items. It does not have the most intuitive interface but your drive should appear on the first page. Check it really is invisible, then click on the drive and toggle visibility. Effects will not take place until you restart your finder, so the easiest thing to do then will be to restart your computer.

  • MacBook Pro only can't find home wireless network

    Hey guys!
I purchased a 15" retina MacBook Pro by July. It brought Mac OS X Lion with it: I had no problems.
However, more than a month later I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and I started to have the same problem ALWAYS: sometimes I would be connected to my home wireless network, perfectly fine. However, after shutting down, sleeping, etc, whenever I would turn the Mac on again, it wouldn't find my home network wireless anymore, but it would find e.v.e.r.y and other network available. Also, my phone, iPad, and every other equipment, would find it and work perfectly. After several restarts and wake ups from sleeps, the Mac would eventually magically find it and stay connected for an unpredictable amount of times (sometimes it could find it continuously for some days after some sleeps, and sometimes it wouldn't be found again after some hours of it being found again (assuming the computer went to sleep)). But if I try any other of the available networks it connects with no issue!
And I've been in this game constantly! I've tried (almost) all the Mountain Lion wifi-related posts in the Internet, but none seems to solve it.
I have only found a few posts with my related issue, which I recall: the Mac won't find, ONLY, my home network, while any other equipment can, and it can magically find it occasionally, lasting its connection until the next sleep or shut down.
    Help would be really appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Juan

Hum, good point, the problem may lay with the router compability. My sister, who has ML as original OS has been having the same problem of not finding only our home network, so it seems that the problem lies on Mountain Lion compatibility with the router. I just restarted the router several times and we both got internet at the same time. The question is, as always, how long will it last until it won't find it again.
    Now, focusing on the router.
Here, in Portugal (as for the rest of the world I don't know), the Internet provider companeis offer their own modems. Not only that, as those modems are both: modems and routers ( http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/149/ofibrasjaestaabombar.jpg ).
After writting the above, and re-reading what you said, you lighted me up the idea of entering the modem domain (you know, that url you put and have access to every definiton of the router?)
Well, the password "type" was selected to "WPA and WPA2". What I did was selecting "WPA2" only. So far it seems that it is working. I'll do some restart tests etc etc and I'll let you know! (Maybe the problem may persist, but I'll only know days from know as it may seem, for know, that it is solved.)
I'll let you know, and thanks for the help so far, Sig!

  • Ipad2 can't find home wireless network

    Hi there.
I'm getting reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally frustrated. My ipad2 had no problem finding my home network when I first bought it but I've recently had a problem with my talktalk phone line (it was down over the weekend) and now my ipad can't find my network! My desktop pc is connected and I can connect to the internet no problem. I'm using a Huawei Echolife HG520b wireless router. Even after following talktalk's instructions on-line I've not been able to find my user name/password to try and connect manually.
    Can anyone help??

Unplug your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect the iPad to WiFi.  I'm not sure how you would reset the Kindle, but unplugging the WiFi may solve the problem for it as well.
If the problem continues, see <Troubleshooting WiFi Networks and Connections>.

  • My macbook can't find home wifi

My macbook air can't find the home wifi. It can, however, find the neighbours' wifis. The home wifi is working fine with my other laptop and iphone so the wlan router is working.
I can't add the network by manually entering its name (says "no network found")
This happened suddenly without any changes to my computer or the wifi settings.
My computer is a 1-year old macbook air. I haven't found any threads with a real, working solution for this issue so any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

And unfortunately no, neither option works.

Many people do not power cycle their routers when having wifi issues.
When attempting to get help here or on any forum always include everything you have attempted to solve the issue and never assume anybody knows what you have or haven't done unless it is explicitly stated.
    Next troubleshooting steps:
    - Network Preferences > Advanced
      Delete all preferred networks, restart
    - Change your router's wifi channel to a channel > 5 from the one in current use

  • Apple TV can't find Home Sharing

    Hi,
I have bought ATV (2.Generation) last week, but have some trouble with my iTunes Library on the MacPro. ATV can't find it, even if its turned on with the correct IDs. But ATV can find my iTunes Library on the Macbook, and I even able to connect via ipHone Remote App to the ATV.
I've tried many different ways and settings, even set up the original system again on the MacPro, but nothing really worked out fine. After reinstalling, ATV was able to find the library and play from it, but suddenly it is gone again and cannot connect back to it. And the Remote App and the Macbook iTunes cannot connect to the Home Shared Libary from the MacPro.
Any ideas, what might be the problem? The software firewall is completely turned of, Sharing settings are set.
It really drives me crazy, I have no idea, what else I can do.

Your Apple TV won't be able to access your iPad library. The reason that it will connect to Photo Stream is because it is pulling it from your iCloud account, not by connecting to your computer. Here are some things to consider (without knowing more about your issue):
    1. Are the Apple TV & computer with iTunes connected to the same network?
    2. Is iTunes open on the computer?
    3. Do you have Home Sharing setup on the computer and the Apple TV with the same account?

  • HT3819 I can't find home sharing on my ipad? No problem with laptop

You would need to download the remote app. You wouldn't be home-sharing the iPad, its accessing your iTunes library from your laptop. To access content from your iPad you use airplay

  • MacBook Pro Can't find home wireless network

I've been having some issues getting my macbook pro, running OS 10.7.5, to find my home wireless network. The network doesn't show up when it searches automatically, and when I type the network name in to find it manually, it says no network found. The computer connects to all other networks and finds then with no issues, and other MacBooks are able to find my home network and connect to it again with no issues.
The computer used to be able to find the network, and then it just stopped working. I have tried all the standard fixes, resetting the router, computer, PRAM, forgetting the network, deleting the key from keychain, but nothing seems to work. I tried googling the issue, but wasn't able to find a problem similar to the one I have.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Still having problems with this.
I have upgraded to Mavericks, hoping that the problem would be fixed, but it hasn't. I still get all networks completely disappearing - even if I search for them they are not found.
But I reboot the computer and it works! But when I am in OS or Bootcamp mode and put the Mac to sleep, it does not see the networks again! I have to reboot the computer for it to work.
I have even got a new router which can receive the b,g and n signals etc. as I was told by a Mac techie here that Macs 'look' for the n signal but can also work with the b and g signals and THAT maybe my old router only transmits b and g or something like that .
This, to me, sounds like a Mac software problem. I had a similar problem on a previous Mac on my "old router" and a totally different router in a different country's telephone system.
I now have the same problem with a new MBP on a new router!

  • Leopard can't find home folder

I moved my home folder, using Apple's instructions, to an external drive.
It is located on a partition on a western digital my book studio 500GB. There is nothing else on that on that partition.
I turn off my iMac last night and came back to it this afternoon. When I booted it up, and entered my password, it loaded what seemed to be, a version of Leopard that you would see when you reinstall the system. It had the standard background and dock icons etc. However, the home folder had only 3 items, Desktop, Library and one other folder I can't remember.
I did a bit of investigating and found out the home folder with 3 sub folders, was in fact on the main HD.
I opened a finder window of the Home partition, cmd clicked on the top of the window to show the path, and instead of being "My Imac>Home>" it was "My Imac>Volumes>Home"
The level: Volumes was in a lighter font, I presume indicating it is a hidden "folder".
I went into system preferences>accounts, unlocked it and right clicked on my account, into advanced options (this is the way I told it originally where the new home folder was) and saw that in had the home folder in /Volumes/Home 1/Alex
Alex is the name of my home folder.
I hit choose, and relocated my home folder, but this time instead of Home 1, it had Home 2.
I restarted and when I entered my password it brought up an error.
*You are unable to log into the user account "Alex" at this time.*
*Logging into the account failed because an error occurred*
I tried a few times but no joy.
I inserted the install disk and repair permissions and the actual disk of both Macintosh HD and Home. I also repaired the entire HD that Home is located on. It said all drives were fine.
After restarting it logged on but to the same state as before. I re-did all the steps and tried again. Back in circles. Except repairing the disks didn't work this time.
I hooked it up by target disk mode to my MBP and created the necessary folders to simulate a home folder (leaving the library folder as it was) but this didn't help.
My best diagnoses is that the iMac thinks there is a volume called Home 1 (or 2 or whatever) and that is where the Home folder should be. But in fact it is just on the drive Home.
Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?
I tried ringing Apple support, but aside from telling me that you can't move the home folder, or tell system preferences where it is, and leave me on hold for ages while he sees if my iMac is within its 90 day phone support, they did nothing. Oh and it took 15 minutes before he understood I wasn't having trouble resetting the password. They should really have a few levels of support, noobs, the average joe and guys who know what they are talking about to a pretty good extent (i.e. me)
I'm not great with terminal but have used it a bit with very clear instructions, so go for any suggestions and I'll have a shot

  • Can Not Find Home Network On iPad 2

I have reset my network settings, reset iPad, and reset my router. I tried toggling airplane mode and Bluetooth on/off. I have not found anything that works. I have an IPad 2 and my daughter has one as well. Her iPad does not have a problem connecting to our home network but mine can not even find the network for some reason even when I'm right at the router. I have seen a lot of threads that says people began having this problem after the update but I didn't update my device and it has never done this before. it started this problem yesterday. Is there anyone else having this problem and maybe found something that will fix it?

JimHdk has the Fest suggestion. Take your iPad to some place that has free Wi-Fi like your library or a Starbucks. You might also try a friends Wi-Fi. If your iPad works with those other networks I would suspect a problem with your router. But if you iPad does not connect at those other locations you most likely have a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at an Apple store for a consultation.
