Can't find library (xml, itl) files

Hi,
I can't find the library database files (*.xml, *.itl) that are supposed to be in the ..My Music/itunes folder. I use Explorer to look at the itunes folder (which does exist in the My Music folder -- all my music files are in the My Music folder), but it shows no files. Also reports that the itunes folder is empty. I have used the View option tab to tell Explorer to show hidden and system files.
What seems strange is that iTunes works just fine. I can see and play all my music, it has all my playlists, etc. My understanding is that info is all in the databases, but I can't find them!
Another odd thing, when I click on the ../My Music/iTunes folder in explorer it takes several minutes with the hourglass icon before it actually opens.
Searching the discussion forums, I see that I could export the .xml file and then use it to recreate the .itl file. I think that some info is lost when you do this -- such as play counts and date added. In anycase, I'm reluctant to do this since everything seems to be working just fine. I would however like to know where the database files are!
Any thoughts?
Dell   Windows XP Pro

Well, I bit the bullet and exported my library from itunes into a different location, moved the existing iTunes folder out of My Music, restarted iTunes, imported the saved xml library, and it looks like everything is fine. My library and playlists show up fine in iTunes, and the two library database files now appear in the iTunes folder in My Music. Can't really say what happened, but looks like this fixed it.

    Hello,
I'm trying to learn how to use an xml file to store user settings for an add in I'm creating. Up to this point, I've just used simple text files in the past that were structured a specific way. I thought I would try and learn to use XML for this after doing
some research online and came across this tutorial:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/8554/Application-Settings-the-NET-way-INI-Registry-or-X
I add the DataSet to my project, but when I get to the step where I'm supposed to add an element to the blank DataSet, I can't find the XML Schema toolbox items. I tried to manually add the toolbox items but couldn't find them. Does anyone know where they
are located so I can add them to my toolbox? Or perhaps another similar tutorial I could follow for creating an XML settings file that I can save to and read from easily for my add in. Since it is a dll, I can't use My.Settings, had already looked into that.
I appreciate any help offered, Thank you.
Is there a reason that you don't want to use Application Settings?
By the way - it's saved in XML format, not that that's really important.
Still lost in code, just at a little higher level.

  • I can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

i can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

Yes you do - it is found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
It is the domain.sites folder that you want and the iWeb folder is NOT in your System Library, but rather your User Library - that's the one with the house.
Depending on what OS you are using - from Lion upwards, your User Library is invisible, so to make it visible, go to the Go menu and hold down the 'alt' key at the same time and your Library will show - then go to Application Support and the iWeb folder is there with your domain.sites file in it.  Double click on this file to open it and iWeb will.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

  • Purpose of .xml & .itl files

Perhaps I'm confused & simply need clarification on a couple of points. the .xml/.itl files are simply the database files for your library/playlists, correct? They have nothing to do with playback.
Also, did the upgrades create a second .itl file in the iTunes music folder & if so how do you tell which is which?
    Thanks,
    Debbie

The itl file is the file that iTunes uses, with all of the library data. The xml file has (I think) less data, and is meant for other program to access the library. They're both accessed anytime anything is done in the library.
Some upgrades made new itl files, but I don't think 5.x did. You can check by sorting by Date.

  • I can't restore 'library' with support files from Time Machine

backup - I can't restore 'library' with support files from Time Machine - Ask Different
Due to an accident, my entire applications folder with all the support files, including plists and caches got deleted.
I tried restoring by files from the most recent Time Machine backups but I cannot retrieve my applications with the support files.
I even tried it with migration assistant on a new image.
    Is this impossible?
    Must I start from scratch?
    Details of the ‘accident’
I was using this app called ‘AppCleaner’ that also automatically deletes related support files which are normally left behind if one simply trashes an Application.
In the search view, I typed the app name and I selected all the apps in the results using Command + A. Unfortunately, this selected every single Application in the Applications Folder in the background and I trashed and deleted all files.
    Anyway.
I tried to restore the applications and library from my Time Machine Back-ups but failed to do so because I didn’t have enough space to restore. (I have a 11inch Macbook Air 2012 64GB SSD
When I tried to restart in recovery mode, I had the same problem, I was disallowed the option to restore using my time capsule backups because my SSD didn’t have enough space for the backup.
I then tried to restore it to a totally different but new image on a 64GB USB3.0 Sandisk USB Stick, but the process stopped after hours of being stuck around 30.4 percent and the computer was unable to boot, leaving me with a persistent verbose message suggesting it couldn’t identify the os, kernel or anything.
I finally tried restoring the state using migration assistant on the very same SSD that had my files missing. This happened successfully and I have all my applications in the applications folder.
But now I have 13GB free (I had 2GB before) and all my application support files, saved states, preferences, caches and customizations are gone.
Basically, it feels like I just got a new macbook with my documents and itunes folder loaded on to it.
How can I get my apps back to the pre-deletion state or is this impossible? Do I have to start from scratch? I thought my Time Machine Backups would restore it to exactly the same state, am I wrong?

Can you simply navigate to your Time Machine backup with the Finder? Treat it like an external hardrive and just look for your old Applications folder. /Applications/
Also, quite a few apps put config and support files in ~/Library/Application\ Support/
So you may be able to get the files from there as well.

Failed installs usually remove the package, just as a proper install removes the package
All that remains for a proper installation is a Receipt in on of the following directories:
    ~/Library/Receipts (for user-specific installs)
    Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts
for system-wide installations, including OS-X updates.
and I don't want to download it once again neither manually nor with software update.
If it did not install, there is no Receipt and the downloaded file is not on your system
If you don't want to see it again in automatic updates, put it on ignore.

    Hi
My iPad is filling up my PowerBook hard disk. Where can I find the sync Photo file to delete it ?
Copying over photos via iTunes/iPhoto - there is a back-up file created (I can not turn it off) and it's now filling my PB-Pro.
So I need to find it and trash it and start over.
    - Where is it located ?
    - What is it's name ?

    Thank You
    I found my iPhoto library
ctrl-clicked on it and opened package/content
here I found the iPod photo cashe folder
copyed this to a safe hard disk
    then deleting it's content
and my memory/free space on boot drive is back

  • When opening a WebHelp system in Firefox, it complains that it can't find contentlist.xml--is this needed? What is it?

When a developer called my online help system (generated in RoboHelp9 as WebHelp) from Firefox, the help seemed to work fine. But he said in Firefox "trace output it complained about 'can not find contentlist.xml’" What is it looking for, and will this cause problems with the functioning of the help?
There is no topic in my RH9 output by that name.

Can you replicate the error message yourself? For example, does it appear in Firefox's Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+j)?
If you aren't getting user complaints about missing functionality, this might be a nonessential file, or it could be a spurious error related to the user's personal configuration (e.g., an add-on).
There is a more global issue to watch for: During the past year Firefox started enforcing higher security restrictions for local web pages. Your page should be able to access files in the same folder or a subfolder. However, if the RoboHelp page is set up to access resources in a directory that requires navigation through a parent directory, that might be blocked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool

I am trying to get my iweb website recognized by Google. Can't seem to get the google html code to work in html snippet. So am now trying to use the iweb seo tool but can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool. My file is in user/library/applicationsupport/iweb/name.sites2
It shows in the folder but is not active, so I can't choose it.

The SEO ftp client is not what I'd recommend using. Once you add the metadata to a local copy of the files use a 3rd party ftp client like the free Cyberduck to upload the files. Much more reliable.
Google does not use keywords for it's searches although other search engines do. Create a test page on your site (leave it out of the navbar) and try adding Google Analytics to it with Wyodor's instructions. If you get it to work then all you need to do is copy and paste the HTML snippet from the test page into your site pages.
For information on visitors to your site you can also use StatCounter. It records the number of visitors and a lot more: where they are from, what browser used, which page visited and what site/page then came from for just a few. SC is easy to add to the pages as you get the code for your account, put it in an HTML snippet add the snippet to each page. Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet describes how to do it.
Again use a test page or a separate test site to work out the details before adding to your site pages.

  • Can't find my saved iWeb file

I can not find my saved iWeb files on my hard drive? I have searched every where. It opens fine in iWeb. What am I doing wrong?

It is there, but you have to remember to look in your Home User Library and not your System Library.
If you can't find it, then do a Spotlight search.
The fact that when you open iWeb your site is there means that it has to be somewhere.

  • CS5.5 can't find the XML Connector Component - what give

I'm working on a actionscript 2 file in flash CS5.5 and can't find the XML Connector Component any place. What happened to it?  How are you suppose to get a round it missing. Is there someplace I can download the .swc file and install it? converting to action script 3 is not an option in this case.
    thanks
    Joel

    Thanks for the reply...
But I can't find any information on using the URLLoader class in Actionscript 2. This is an Actionscript 2 project that I don't have the time or the knowlage to try convert to AS3.  What I need is the AS2 XML Connector Component, I just can't find it anyplace in CS5.5. Where did they move it to? or is it gone?. The cs5.5 help files link me over to the AS2 reference guide. I found lots of references to it in the AS 2 guide in the cs5.5 help files but they all start with....
Confirm that your Publish Settings specify ActionScript 2.0.
Add an instance of the XMLConnector component to your application and give it an instance name.
So the problem is, I can't find an "instance" of the XML Connector Component any place in flash CS5.5. I do see all the parameters and the trigger method listed in the script window but can't find the "component". All the sample scripts I've found on using the XMLconnect have a line to import the component and when I try to use them it throws an error.
In fact I can't find any of the "Data" components that were in my older copy of flash. So I asume that Adobe , in their collective wisdom, decided we didn't need them any more so I guess the question needs to be...
Given that this project must use actionscript 2, and that the XML connector Component appearently doesn't exsist any more. How do I do the job it did to get an XML file into my AS2 flash project. if I can get it loaded I can use the inspector, as I use to I assume, to bind it. Any code example or links to some would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Joel

why??? Are you by any chance using the example makefile supplied with Oracle? This has a line in it that calls a makefile called env_precomp.mk.
Get rid of this line---it is used (I think) for the initial setup of ProC/C++ and is superflous for building user programs.
If you want I can supply you with a template makefile for 8.0.5 that will do the complete build for you, including handling ProC++ files, additional C/C++ source files and header files. e-mail me off list if you want this and I'll send it to you.

    Anyone have any Ideas ?

I should have included my wrappers.properties in the original part of the thread. Here it is with the working corrections.
    Once I added : wrapper.class_path=E:\xdk_java_902b\lib\XSQLConfig.jar
to my wrappers.properties file the XML-003 error went away, i.e. its working ... I can see the XSQLCOnfig.xml file now. I don't think this is the nornal way this should be fixed but literally nothing else I did worked. I tried things like adding a system variable XML_CONF=%XML_HOME%\lib and modified my CLASSPATH to simply poiint to the %TOMCAT_HOME%\lib ( where my XSQLConfig.xml file is located). those did not get this woring ... only by adding the "wrapper.class_path=E:\xdk_java_902b\lib\XSQLConfig.jar
" to my wrappers.properties file did it work.
I hope this helps people, but I do believe this is very non-standard (this isn't the way this is supposed to be working). Everything I've read by Oracle OTN, Steve M. etc. and the boards here suggest this isn't supposed to be this hard. But it was for me.
now I'm dealing with a XML-007 error, but thats very solvable, theres plenty of documentation on why your JDBC connection is failing, worse comes to worse I'll re-install the JDBC-Oracle 8i client software.
