Can't find my music library!

Just recently my hard disk started to die. I took it to best buy (I had a service plan), and they replaced the disk, no charge. They even let me keep my original disk so i could copy all my itunes songs and saved games, which is against their usual policy. The problem is, I got home with my new hard drive set as the main, and I couldn't for the life of me find any of my bought itunes songs! I found the folder for my itunes music and it was empty, 0 bytes! Apparently i can't take the music off my ipod and put it back on my computer. So i have to keep those songs on my ipod forever. I'm not going to start pointing fingers yet, though. If anyone knows of a fix for this problem let me know. I paid over $200 for music from apple, and I really don't want it to be a waste.

Here's a site that will let you get your songs from your Ipod on to another computer!!

  • ITunes can't find my music library. Pleas help!

I just upgraded my iTunes. Next time I tried opening it a window appeared that read: "Can't find your iTunes Library..."
I tried searching by opening start/computer/iTunes but the file that has all my music was renamed to: bd4765ae206e5a7a782a28f08509 and when I tried opening it all I found was a list of 4 files that I can't open.
I know all my music is still there because the file still uses 125 GB in my computer, but I can't seem to run iTunes or I can't seem to point iTunes into finding my music.
    Please anyone help!!!

If you did not rename that file, then I am a little worried there might be a larger problem looming (malware, etc.). If this is so, then finding the file might not even help.
I recommend restoring from a backup. If the backup was made before this file changed, then you should be fine.
If you would like to stick with what you've got, then this Apple Support article should provide you with the instructions you need: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1391

  • Can't find itunes music library

I have 46 gb of music on m mac mini. recently upgraded to os10.9. cannot find my music library..

Upgrading over the old OS X should not cause data loss. You do have a backup, right...?
Besides the backup question, I have a few more.
    1. Exactly what steps did you take before, during and after upgrading to Mavericks...?
    2. When you go to "Finder > Music > iTunes > iTunes Music" do you see Albums...?
    3. What happens in iTunes when you select File > Add to Library...?

  • Can't find my Music Library nor Playlists on iTunes site

I performed a full backup of my PC, copying everything to CD's for safekeeping, including my music from iTunes. My songs are sitting in a folder on my PC under "My Music" but when I go into iTunes site, they have disappeared! Yikes, can I get them back? Forunately they are still all sitting on my iPod, but would like to get my Music Library & Playlists back onto the iTunes site. Can anyone walk me through the steps I need to take?
    Much appreciated.

I am having the same issue. I got a new PC (Sony Vaio). Downloaded Itunes 8 64 bit. Imported all my music files. When i open with itunes the music plays. when i restart the PC and open itunes, the music library disappears. the itunes music folder creates duplicats as well.

  • Can't find shared music library on ipad 2 since ios 5

Since Music App has replaced iPod App on iPad2 I can't find out how to go to shared music to listen to music off of iMac.
    Thanks

I had the same issue with my iPhone 5 running latest iOS update 6.1
After reading this forum I figured disabling home sharing and re-enabling the home sharing under settings music might work and it did. After re-enabling I could see my few hundred albums again instead of just a dozen. Hope this works for others too. And that apple might provide a fix for this behaviour of home sharing.

  • Can't find MY iTunes library

I recently set up a separate iTunes library for my wife's music on my iMac per instructions from Apple but now can't find my music library. The guy at the Apple store gave me a very confusing solution so I hope someone can give me a clear one. It's probably very simple to find it. Thanks.

Well...if you're both going to use the same account on the Mac, I think your only option is to Option-Launch each time you need to change to the other library. There's no other way, really, for iTunes to know which library you want, so it should always open the last one that was opened.

  • Hello! I have one iTunes library on my iPod and one iTunes library on my computer. When I connect my iPod touch to my PC, however, I cannot find any files in my iPod except for pictures. How can I find the music files so I can add them to my iTunes?

    You can't do that.
And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

  • A lot of my music is on an external Hard Drive, currently "H" drive.  When I try to play a song in the Library in Itunes I get the message that it can't find the music.  Info says it's in a different location "G" Drive.  But it's not. it's in "H" Drive.

What if you take this same topic of an external hard drive with music but instead of directly attached to the computer the music is on a Network Attached hard drive(NAS)? Will I be able to add music to my ipod without any problem? Step that up a notch, will the two computers on my network be able to recognize the music on the NAS? Will the two users be able to create their own playlists and update their ipods independently? Now step up that up one more notch, will I be able to do this with one PC running XP and my macbook with OS X?
Before I run out and buy a NAS I want to be certain. I also would like to convert my DVD library in the future and put it on the network available to an AppleTV or other UpNp media player in the future, because I love having power at my finger tips.

  • I created a 2nd library for my husbands music and now I can't find my original library. I did hold down the shift key to open itunes but is still comes up with the new library. What am I doing wrong? I tried several times with no luck. Thank you.

I just got an Ipod Classic recently and downloaded Itunes. Got my music on my Ipod. My husband just got an Ipod Touch. I followed the directions on how to create a 2nd library and was able to load his music onto his Ipod. My problem is now I can not find my original library. I did what the directions said about holding down the shift key while opening Itunes and it still goes to the 2nd library that I created. How do i get my original library to come up? I tried several times with the same results. Please let me know what I need to do to be able to get into either library. Thank You.

Does the original library file still exist on the computer?  Hopefully when creating the new library it was done in a seperate folder as I do not believe iTunes allows for two library files in the same location.

  • Where can I find the music I just transferred from my Windows library to my mini? When I claick on the music icon, nothing shows up. Manual proves useless. :{

    Where can I find the music file I THINK I just downloaded from my Windows library to my ipad? Watched the progress unfold on my PC, but once is was completed,  when I click on the music icon on the mini desktop, it does not pull up the file. Manual proved usleess. :{

I installed iTunes on my PC ( not a Mac )
I connected my mini to my computer with cord
    I turned on my mini
I opened iTunes on my desktop
I clicked everywhere, but no prompts told me what to do this time!
Sorry, but I can't remember how hubby originally managed to make popup appear on my computer screen that allowed me to transfer music from my hard drive/desktop to my mini.
Calling the Apple store was fruitless....wading through interminable menu; put on hold; connecting to helper, then immediately being put on hold; finally disconnected.
Just want to know the first step after all of the above and I can PROBABLY take it from there..........

  • How can I export my music library if I can't upgrade my iTunes?

I have an ancient iMac running an ancient OS (10.4.11). I basically keep it cos I love the design and I spent literally weeks downloading all my CDs onto it back in the day. My iPod just got stolen so I want to put my music library on my iPhone 3GS. Trouble is I cannot update my iTunes on my iMac as the OS is too old and I can't even buy and run a new OS as the processor is ancient too, and incompatible.
I tried to find some more recent versions of iTunes online that I could run with the OS but they are also too old to sync with my phone.

  • I synced my ipod to my laptop and now I can't find my music on my ipod it's all gone and some of the songs I purchased thru itunes

I synced my ipod to my laptop and now I can't find my music help.  I called the support but was told that that help expired.  I did not even know I had that offered to me HELP!!!!

You may be able to redownload your iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
BTW, did you sync to the laptop before? Yu can only sync to one iTunes library. If you sync to to another library the iPod will be eerased and it contents replace with what is in the iTunes library on the computer.

  • ITunes can not find my music on external hard drive

Had to redo my hard drive; had all music on external hard drive; copied iTunes folder onto external hard drive. Now that my desktop hard drive is clean, and new iTunes downloaded, it can not find my music on the external drive which I have always used. Is there some setting I am missing, do I have to copy music onto CPU?

Hold the SHIFT key while launching iTunes. You will get the option to navigate to the iTunes folder on your external drive. In the iTunes folder point it to the iTunes Library.itl file.

  • Itunes can't find my music folder

I can't install Itunes....it downloads fine from the exe file but when i try to open itunes it gives me the error msg that it can't find My Music folder. I went to the support page and it told me that if i couldn't find My Music folder to create one in My documents and download/install Tweak UI. I did and followed all the steps except when it asks me to click on My computer, then special folder and can't find the My Music folder to move it. I am using Windows XP....Please help. Has anyone ever had this problems?

    I finally found a solution here: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/983948.htm
it's stupid, you have to hold down the shift key while you open iTunes (don't just hold it while you click, keep holding it until iTunes actually shows the library dialog).
