Can't find my network on time capsule

I was having trouble running my backup.  The error showed the disk was in use.  I did some research and it was suggested that I reboot the time capsule.   I did that and now I can't see my wifi network that I use on my time capsule.  The Airport Utility shows the Time Capsule and Network in good order, but the network doesn't appear in my network list and won'd let me add it.

What is the modem? It is clearly working as router as well and it must be wireless if the ipads and iphones have internet connection.
What model is the TC? What firmware is it running?
What issues is it showing in the airport utility?
What is the wireless name in the TC?
Is it set to create a wireless network?
I would strongly recommend a factory reset of the TC and redo the setup.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
In the new clean setup..
The TC must be bridged if your modem is also working as router.. Only if the modem is pure cable type should you have the TC routing.
You should have the TC create a wireless network.
And especially for Mavericks which now uses SMB network, you should have all names compliant with SMB standard.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. That means TC base station name and wireless name.
Use WPA2 Personal security for wireless with 10-20 character password also pure alphanumeric mix of upper and lower case plus numbers.
Remember also everything is now dependent on ipv6 being set correctly. In every computer ensure the ipv6 for both wireless and ethernet is set to link-local.
For example in wireless it looks thusly.
If you have no luck.. please post screenshots of the TC setup.. I need to see the internet tab, wireless tab and network tab.. plus the full summary screen can help. Full summary screen you need to hold the option key and double click the TC icon in the airport utility. It looks thusly.

  • Can't find European land in Time Capsule setting

I have purchased TM from USA and can't find European land in Time Capsule setting.

Apple sells products that have been "regionalized" for different parts of the world.  North America, South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, etc, for example.
It is not possible to change a Time Capsule from one region to another. The reason for this is that different regions have different wireless standards and regulations. See this link for all the details:
List of WLAN channels - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Time Capsule purchased in the USA will operate from 100-240 Volts and 50/60 Hz automatically, so power wise, it will work just about anywhere in the world if you have the right kind of AC wall socket adapter. (A power transformer or converter is not needed).
But, you will have to be careful about using higher 5 GHz wireless channels on the USA Time Capsule while in Europe, since the use of higher 5 GHz channels is not legal in most European countries at this time.  In other words, keep the 5 GHz channel on the USA Time Capsule at Channel 36, 40, 44 or 48.

  • Migration Assistant can not find my backups on Time Capsule

Yesterday I installed a fresh copy of OS X leopard and wanted to recover data from time capsule using migration assistant, the first time that I connected to TC using migration assistant it found everything on my TC and was calculation the size of that account there but suddenly it went away and now when I connect to time capsule it says (migration assistant) that there is 0 backup found. I can myself recover some data from time capsule which I stored just as a disk drive which means that the hard drive of TC is working , the sparsebundle is even there . but no result.
Even when I want to go to time machine with the icon in menu bar it takes too much time says; connecting to server but nothing happens !
Please help all the data from years ago are there !!

For backups on a Time Capsule, you may have to mount the sparsebundle first.
Open Finder. Click on Time Capsule -> Time Capsule Disk -> yourbackup.sparsebundle. Double-click on it and press Skip when prompted. Your sparsebundle should now be mounted on your Desktop.
Try to +Browse Other Time Machine disks+ via the ctrl-click on the TM icon.

  • System Migration can't find backup volume in Time Capsule

I'm having a crisis restoring the backup volume from my old 15" MacBook Pro (2010 model, OSX 10.6) to my new 15" MacBook Pro, 2012 OSX 10.7). I back up both my iMac and my MacBook Pro there wirelessly. I've had success restoring hard drives in the past. I executed a backup this morning before my old machine died. When I try to run Data Migration wirelessly, it can't find the either volume. When I look in Time Machine using Finder, I can't see either volume (wirelessly or wired). However, when I connect to Time Capsule using FInder with an Ethernet connection, I can see both Parse Bundles.
Here is another variable. I changed the Time Capsule password using my other machine right before I started all of this.
What can I do? I've got some major project deadlines looming Monday and I don't really have time for data recovery. Is there anything I can do or am I sunk?

  • Migration Assistant can't find sparse bundle on Time Capsule

I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to set up a new MacBook Pro.  I have two different sparse bundles on my Time Capsule, one for my Mac Mini and one for my old MacBook.
The first time I ran MA it connected to the TC and allowed me to select one of the bundles.  I ended up with the wrong one on my new machine (I'm pretty sure I clicked the right name, but...).  Now I'm trying to redo the process to transfer from the other bundle, but when I start MA it's only showing me one sparse bundle and it's not the one I want.
    Any suggestions?

I just thought of something -- I didn't turn off Time Machine on the old laptop.  Is the sparse bundle locked, so it's unavailable?  Unfortunately I don't have my old laptop anymore :-(  Any way to unlock that sparse bundle or otherwise make it available for use?

  • I'm trying to extend my wifi network with time capsule but it can't find the existing wifi network

I'm trying to extend my wifi network with time capsule but it can't find the existing BT wifi network even though it is there with a good signal strength. The Time Capsule is connected to a Netgear router via ethernet.

You will need to start over on the setup of the Time Capsule as follows:
Disconnect any Ethernet cables that might be connected to the Time Capsule, but leave it powered on
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 8-10 seconds and release. The reset button is located next to the AC power socket.
Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect the Ethernet cable from a LAN <--> port on the Netgear to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.  The Ethernet cable must remain connected at all times.
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a setting of New AirPort Base Station
    Click on Time Capsule
The example below shows an AirPort Express. You will see Time Capsule on your screen.
That will get the setup wizard going. It will take a minute to analyze the settings, then display a screen that looks like this, except you will see a picture of the Time Capsule
Network Name..........Type in the exact name that the Netgear wireless is using
Base Station.............Type in a name that you want to call the Time Capsule.  Use something short and simple. Mine is TC, for example
Password..................Type in the exact password that the Netgear wireless requires
    Verify.........................Verify the Password again
    Click Next
The setup wizard will configure everything for you automatically.  When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
That's it.  Now you have one big "extended" network.  Technically, this is called a "roaming" network.

  • Since I updated to my new 1TB Time Capsule, my HP printer can't find my network

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600. I had no trouble connecting it to my network on my old Time Capsule. Since updating to my new 1TB Time Capsule, my printer can't find my network.
Any ideas on what's the problem here??  Sure would like to be able to print off my iPad like I used to be able to do...
    Thanks in advance...cheryl

I am a bit confused.. the new TC is 2TB or 3TB disk .. there is no 1TB model sold..
If your printer is setup by wireless you will need to redo the setup from scratch.
I am not sure how you are running it.. but if you are using airprint from ipad then it has to be wireless. Then I strongly recommend you redo the setup of the TC to have short wireless name.. eg TCwifi and then setup the printer via WPS in the airport utility.

  • Can i access my data on time capsule from some other network

can i access my data on time capsule from some other network that is my data at home from office over internet

There is plenty of info out there if you google..
Here is a summary I just put into another thread.
Remote access has been added back into iCloud that was in MobileMe..
Read the info on setting it up from cloud service.. BTMM.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
If you want to do it without the cloud service, you have one major issue.. the public IP for WAN..
The internal IP of the TC.. which will default to 10.0.1.1 btw.. is irrelevant. It is the IP of the WAN which you use to access the TC over the internet. And here you have a problem.. the TC does not include dyndns service. So unless you have a static IP address from your ISP, this will cause you grief.
(If it is offered by your ISP.. get a static IP.. that eliminates all the issues.. and is far superior. Even dyndns service has issues if your public IP rotates too often. It is generally an extra cost item and requires a business account but some ISP offer it cheap or even free.. I joined an ISP that offered static ip for free because it gives me the ability to remote access my network without all the hassles you will see below.)
There are ways around it.. setting up your own domain for instance.
    http://dyn.com/support/airport-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/
But it is easier to simply use a different router.. almost all of them have dyndns service available.. place the TC behind the router in bridge and forward port 548 TCP to it.
This is a bit old but still relevant.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
Note .. there is no ftp, http, ssh (there is actually but it isn't accessible), or any other service to allow connection other than AFP.. so you must use a Mac in remote location to access the TC.
The setup for the two methods is slightly different in the TC.. in the first instance, you need to turn on WAN access via disk sharing page in the manual setup.
In the second case you do not need this.
Remember security and put strong passwords on the disk. There are still security questions about this.
If security is important.. there is a third and better (IMO) method and that is vpn.. you will need to buy a vpn router as TC also missed out on that.. establish a vpn with the main router and that will allow you access to your network.. you will also then be able to use SMB remotely not just AFP.
Also if this office is a large company they should be running a firewall, which would block your access to home. You should check your IT admin people for what is allowed.. generally the only acceptable method is vpn otherwise you can drag viruses and trojans right into the network without the firewall catching them.

  • How can I set up a guest WiFi network using Time Capsule and Airport Express extension?

How can I set up a guest WiFi network using Time Capsule and Airport Express extension?

Sorry, but it is not possible to "extend" the Guest Network using either wireless or an Ethernet connection.

  • How can i extend a wireless network with time capsule

How can i extend an existing wifi verizon wireless network with time capsule? the router is connected on the bottom floor. want to boost the signal to a home office on the top floor, four flights up. connect time capsule via ethernet cable to iMac on 4th floor? Do I have to start a second wifi network or can I set it to just boost the one I have? thank you

How can i extend an existing wifi verizon wireless network with time capsule?
It all depends on what you mean by "extend".
If you plan to "extend" by connecting the Time Capsule to the Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable, this can be accomplished.
If you were hoping to connect the Time Capsule to the Verizon router using wireless only, unfortunately the Time Capsule and Verizon products are not compatible for that purpose.
Check with Verizon to see if they offer an "extender" or "repeater" that could be located very close to the Time Capsule.
This would provide both more wireless coverage and also allow you to connect the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable from the "extender" or "repeater".

  • External USB-hdd not recognised by Finder if connected to Time Capsule

    Hello!
I'd like to connect a small external harddrive (40 GB) to my Time Capsule (1 TB) via USB.
I've read on http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/wireless.html the followings:
"... +And if you want to share both a printer and an additional hard drive, you can. Just connect a USB hub to Time Capsule.+ ..."
While I've connected two printers to Time Capsule - so I already use a USB hub - I've tried with the external USB-harddrive, but it wasn't recognised neither by the Finder, nor by the DiskUtility-app. The external USB-harddrive appears not even if I connect it directly to the Time Capsule!
Restarting the Time Capsule / USB-hub / external USB-harddrive / my Mac doesn't change anything
The external USB-harddrive appears only in the AirPort-utility app (5.4.2) in "manual Config" - "Devices", but even here only as a possible archiving device for the internal Time Capsule harddrive.
The USB-harddrive itself is formated as Mac OS extended (journaled) and it works like it should on my iMac (3.06 GHz, Mac OS X 10.5.7).
Do you have any idea why the external USB-harddrive doesn't appear when connected to the Time Capsule?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Vlad

    Vlad, this might help...
    *Accessing External Hard Disk*
    Open a Finder window
Select the Time Capsule in the Sidebar on the left.
Click "Connect As..." in the upper right of the window.
Enter the Name of your Time Capsule & its' password (Note: NOT your own Username & password).
Check "Remember password in my Keychain."
You should now see a blue share folder with the name of your Time Capsule.
Any hard disks attached to the Time Capsule’s USB port will also appear here as blue share folders. To mount them on your desktop double-clicking their blue folders. If you had a separate password setup for those disks in Airport Utility then enter that password if asked. Otherwise, it should now mount on your desktop.
Let us know if this solves your issue. If, however, the drive is not showing up either on the Desktop or the Sidebar, you may still need to do the following...
    *On Desktop*
In the Finder, go to the Finder menu and select "Preferences".
    Click “General” in the toolbar.
Ensure that all the items under "Show these items on the desktop" are checked.
    Close the preference window.
    *In Finder SideBar*
In the Finder, go to the Finder menu and select "Preferences".
    Click “SideBar” in the toolbar.
Ensure that all the items under "Devices" & “Shared” are checked.
    Close the preference window.
    Did this resolve the issue?
As for Disk Utility, bear in mind that DU won't "see" network attached storage devices unless they are already mounted on the Desktop. And even then they are sometimes not "seen" by DU. If you are going to do any work on a network attached storage device avoid attempting to do it wirelessly. Best to connect it directly to the Mac (USB/Firewire), or at the very least via ethernet.
    Hope this helps. Cheers!

  • Problems wirelessly extending 5Ghz network with Time Capsule

    Summary:
My Time Capsule wirelessly extends a 5Ghz "n" network provided by my Airport Extreme, but the Time Capsule frequently fails and stops providing Internet access to connected computers. I'm not sure if the problem is with the Time Capsule or with the Airport Extreme it's connecting to.
    Setup:
Airport Extreme (dual band) connected to cable modem. It provides a 5Ghz "n" network and a 2.5Ghz "b-g-n" network. This is in the bedroom.
Time Capsule (non-dual band) joins the 5Ghz network and extends it. This is in the office, maybe 40 feet away, line-of-sight. There is a laser printer connected to the Time Capsule via ethernet.
My MacBook is set to join the 5 Ghz network, and since it's in the office, it ends up joining via the Time Capsule. This is the desired behavior, as connecting through the Time Capsule seems to result in the fastest possible backup speed.
There are no wireless devices, such as cordless phones, in the house. The microwave is NOT in use when the problems arise.
    *The Problem:*
Frequently, the MacBook loses its Internet connection, though it is still connected to the 5Ghz network through the Time Capsule. When this happens, it can only see the Time Capsule it's connected through (and other devices that are connected to it) but no other devices on the network.
When this happens, other devices that are connecting to the 5Ghz network through the Airport Extreme can no longer see the Time Capsule or any devices connected to it, such as the laser printer or my MacBook. This includes the living room computer, which has never been able to complete a backup due to this problem.
The Time Capsule's and the Airport Extreme's indicator lights both stay green.
If I change the Macbook's connection to the 2.5Ghz network, it can see the devices connected to the Airport Extreme, but can no longer reach the Time Capsule.
    *Unsuccessful Solutions:*
This was happening in a previous incarnation of the network, when I had a non-dual band Airport Extreme providing the main network, the Time Capsule connected via 5Ghz, and an Airport Express connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule to provide a b-g network.
I replaced the Airport Extreme with a new dual-band unit to simplify the setup, but it did not solve the problem.
Since the Time Capsule seemed to be the weak link in the network, I reported the problem and got the unit replaced, but the problem still persists.
I've reset both the Airport Extreme and the Time Capsule to their factory settings numerous times, and set them up again from scratch (no imported settings). I've gone in and made sure that there were no WDS settings leftover from the earlier configuration, as the 5Ghz network does not need it to extend itself.
    *Plea for help:*
Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

    Update
The other day, I modified the setup so that the Time Capsule doesn't extend the wireless network wirelessly, only through Ethernet (so the attached printer will work, but the computers will connect directly to the AEBS. The Time Capsule stayed connected long enough for me to do a full backup (125GB) from the downstairs computer.
I thought I had it "solved" (though extending the 5Ghz network would be preferable so the office computers can have faster backup speeds.)
But yesterday, I went to print to the Ethernet-attached printer, and it got only one page out before it disappeared off the network again, and the print job failed. I noticed it did it again, today.
So the problem is not tied to wirelessly extending the network.

  • Can I simply just use my Time Capsule as a normal External Hard drive? A wireless external hard drive?

Can I simply just use my Time Capsule as a normal External Hard drive? A wireless external hard drive?

I am not sure what you mean by normal external but yes, it is a network hard disk drive.. and you can use wireless.. the only trouble then is, if there is no ethernet connection and internet is by wireless to a different router, then you cannot do both at once.
