Can't find Netscape

Recvently, I installed Solaris 9 on a Sparc and then installed Netscape 7.0 using pkgadd. However, the installation did not add it onto the search path. I added it to the path in my local .cshrc and I can launch netscape from a terminal, but when I click on a HTML file in a File Manager, it reports that it can't find netscape. I did all these operations with a root login.
I am new to Unix, could anybody point me to a right direction to solve this problem.
Thanks

I guess you're using CDE, and the problem is that the program "sdtwebclient" on Solaris does not know about
the new browser.

  • Where can I find Netscape 7.2 for OS 9.2.2??

    I want to use an income tax program whicht requires Netscape 7.2 (no other browser is listed) which I do not have. I am working on IE 5.1 which apparently won't work with this program and I have OS 9.2.2 On the Netscape site, version 7.2 is only available for OS X users. Is there anywhere I can obtain this browser for my "ancient" operation system?

    I am having the exact same issue, and tried the suggestion with iCab. Setting the ID to Netscape 7.2 does not allow the online tax preparation software to load, in my experience.
    Interestingly, I have had Netscape 7.0.2 load the online service fine, until logging in. The login page loads, but upon submiting my login credentials, a page full of text appears (possibly script text).
    So, if there are any other suggestions, I'm sure many of us using 9.2.2 would like to efile this year.
    Thanks for any assistance that you may be able to provide.

  • Can't find netscape.javascript.*?

    Can some one explain to me how when I try to compile, I get an error saying that I don't have this package? I tried it with version 1.4.2, which has the java plug-in I'm sure. I'm kind of new to Java so try to make it simple if possible.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Assuming "%JAVA_HOME%" is the base directory of your Java installation, then you must include "%JAVA_HOME%/jre/lib/plugin.jar" in your classpath during compile time.

  • Can't Import netscape.javascript; classpath set properly

    I have an applet that is trying to say
    import netscape.javascript.*No matter how I try to compile it, I get the error
    package netscape.javascript does not existI am primarily using ant for building; here is the pertinent section of my build.xml file:
    <property name="output" location="javaclasses" />
       <target name="compile">
          <javac srcdir="./"
                 destdir="${output}"
                 includes="**/*.java"
                 classpath="./,\
                            javaclasses/packages/epsgraphics.jar,\
                            /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_update13-sr2/jre/lib/plugin.jar,\
                            javaclasses"
                 listfiles="yes">
          </javac>
       </target>Note that plugin.jar is included in my classpath. Using jar -tf <...>/plugin.jar, I can see that it contains the netscape package, the javascript subdirectory, and the JSObject.class I am interested in.
    Attempting to resolve this manually with the command line
    javac -classpath "./;javaclasses/packages/epsgraphics.jar;/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_update13-sr2/jre/lib/plugin.jar;javaclasses" myApplet.javagives the same error.
    Moving plugin.jar to my local directory, or any other directory specified in the classpath (which worked just fine until I tried accessing plugin.jar) and re-jiggering the classpath so it can be located gives the same result: it can't find netscape.javascript.
    I'm using javac from java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_update13-sr2 on Suse Linux 10.3.
    What am I missing here?

    As noted, the class is present in the jar file, as revealed with 'jar -tf plugin.jar'
    I've fiddled with separators, as well. You're correct that a colon is used under Linux; that is what I had used in earlier attempts, but wound up copying the latest incarnation, which was desperately cribbed from another forum's example, thinking that Java might have other ideas. None of the variants I tried worked.
    Trying it again, replacing the command line given with colons, still doesn't work; fails with the same message.
    Currently pursuing another Ant solution, with no joy.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • When I attempt to open firefox an error message appears telling me that firefox is already running, but I can't find it running. How do I do so or in any case close the already running Firefox process?

    When I attempt to open Firefox instead of Firefox opening, an error message appears saying "Firefox is already running but isn't responding. To open another window please close the existing Firefox process or restart the system.", but I can't find that process of Firefox in order to kill it, and after restarting the system there is still the problem. I have found an emergency fix to at least get online, and that is to use"Firefox_Profile_Manager" in the start menu's "run" start menu, but the
    Firefox that then opens is that one doesn't carry over what I had in my bookmarks but starts bookmarks anew.

    Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox.

    Last but not least, this is only a problem when using JRE 1.4 not when using JRE 1.3.

    Hello!
    I am using IBM WebSphere Test Environment as a servletEngine, i put the propertiesfile in a jarfile together with

  • Slow-Start Up and "can not find the server" dialog box

    hi there -
    2 year old Ibook G4. When I try to open either Safari or Netscape the "can not find the server" box pops up.. I have a solid connection wi-fi for the wireless signal is on full strength. I have cleared my cache. Also I am experiencing start-ups that are taking 2-3 minutes. The color wheel just keeps spinning.Also, I have done repair and I renewed the DHCD. Not sure what else to do?

    as a guess, spinning wheel could be caused by failing hard drive.
    often failing hard drives will pass all tests by the utilities.
    you may want to back up any important files just in case.
    if the iBook boots up from the OS install CD/DVD with no problems, issues could be caused by the corrupted files on the hard drive or failing drive.

  • "Firefox can't find the server at ..." error message

    I frequently get the "Firefox can't find the server at ..." message but in most cases clicking "refresh" gets to the relevant website. Based on limited usage of IE, IE doesn't give the same problems. In attempting to resolve the issue I've deleted and reallowed Firefox through the firewall, tried starting in safe mode, cleared the cache, made suggested additional entries though About:config, etc. all to no avail. Judging from discussion threads this problem appears to be very common but none of the solutions I've tried work. Any suggestions for possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    This problem has occurred frequently since upgrading to 3.6 and upwards, all the way to 6.0. It is so persistent a problem that I am seriously considering bidding farewell to Firefox for a while.
    I have IE, Chrome, Opera, Netscape and ArmorSurf as alternatives. Even the old Netscape Navigator (version 9+) gives me less problems than Firefox.
    Another major annoyance with Firefox: Upgrades too often cause the loss of previously functioning add-ons (some of which had cost money for the premium versions).
    Firefox has lost its razzle-dazzle for me. Too bad.
