Can't find Paragraph rules in ID CS 3.0.1

Have a file brought over months ago from PM 7. w/paragraph rules, ID is putting the rules when updating file, but can't find the menu to make a slight change in spacing... paragraph rule or rules does not show anyplace... help please!

Click the Paragraph Palette flyout menu (the little triangle in the corner of the palette).

An horizontal ruler that allows you to add add/edit breakpoints is aviable on the top of the document window. If you need a "classic" horizontal/vertical ruler, like InDesign, Illustrator and other Adobe applications, it's not aviable on Reflow.

Hi community,
I received a document with left-aligned text AND ugly hyphenation. No paragraph styles applied.
I thought it would be easy to search for hyphenated paragraphs with the search and replace window, but can find this option anywhere.
Am I blind or isn't there such an option?

How can I create paragraph rules below a heading in InDesign CS5?

I have created a rule but the headings are appearing sometimes with a rule both above and below and sometimes only below...the display is inconsistent.
I'd be very happy if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong here.

Where can i find Business rules console in oracle SOA11G?

I am using the business rule component in the SOA 11G.
After deploying my BPEL process i want to edit the values of rule set at run time. i am not able to find any console for business rules like in 10G.

There is no UI provided for rules modification in SOA 11gR1 (11.1.1.1.0). User has to create their own UI by implementing the exposed APIs.
However its available as part of 11gR1 Patchset1 (11.1.1.2.0)

Where can I find iBooks rules and regulations?

Is there a document somewhere that explains plainly what can and can not be published through iBooks?
In particular, can media enhanced books in foreign languages be published?
Also, Is there a way to generate free download coupons for your own published books through iTunes if you want to sell your book but also be able to offer some free downloads as part of a financing contract deal?
Finaly if this is too much for a community forum, is there a department that deals with publishers or in my case would-be publishers?

Horizontal paragraph rule across two-column text frame?

Hi,
as the title suggests, how do i get a horizontal rule to run across a two-column text frame?
I have either had the rule just apply to the entered text; had a gap where the column gutter is;
or I have had to set the column gutter to 0mm/px and manually set carriage returns to give the impression of a gutter.
Surely there is a better way?
I'll attach a jpeg of my various options.

You can put the rule in a paragraph which is spanning a columns.
Or you can extend the paragraph rules by inputing minus values to left and right (e.g. -5mm)
Or you can use a table instead.
Or you can use negative left and right intend for the text but extend the rule to the end of the frame.
Never set a carriage return manually.

Where does one set space after paragraph in the new Pages 5.0? It used to be under text in the Inspector in the previous version, but I just can't find it in this new version.

How can I make a paragraph rule transparent?

I have a requirement to use a paragraph rule but I need it to be transparent. I cannot figure a way to do this or via any other technique in indesign. In reality I want them to be included in a character or paragraph style.
Your help is appreciated. I am on CS5.5 and an indesign veteran of some 12 years now...

My method is a bit of a tricky method, but I think it works.
Select the text frame, and choose Edit>Place and Link Story.
You are given a Loaded Cursor with identical text.
Place this in the exact same location and send it to the back.
Give the text at the back a Paragraph Rule above, to suit. And give it a white rule.
Change the Back Frame transparency to suit.
Then Make sure your original text frame is on top.
When you update the text in the main frame - then you can update the text via the Links panel so the rule behind suits

Can I change the default settings for Paragraph Rules?

I need to apply the same 'Rule Below' to a lot of separate lines of text in InDesign CS5, but the settings I want differ from the default ones in the Paragraph Rules dialogue box. Is there a way to change the default settings so I can just click Rule On rather than inputting the same information a million and one times?

You will need a separate paragraph style for each heading level
Heading Level 1
Heading Level 2
Heading Level 3
For Heading Level 1 - create a Paragraph Style and set it the way you want.
For Heading Level 2 - make sure that in General that "Based on: Heading Level 1", this will give it same properties as H1 - but you can change the size of the text and the size paragraph rule to suit.
For HEading Level 3 - make sure that you set it to Based On: Heading Level 1 (this is vital)
And do the same for all Sub Heading levels.
I'd usually assign shortcuts of
CTRL ALT SHIFT 1 - for H1
CTRL ALT SHIFT 2 - for H2
Etc.
This will ensure consistency across your document.
Say for example you needed to change the colour or tint of all Paragraph Rules
CHANGE H1 ONLY - and this will also be applied to H2 H3 H4 etc. As long as you haven't given different tints/colours to each individual Paragraph Rule in the Styles.

The above link specifies how Paragraph Rules are added in InDesign.
I have a scenario where I would want the same thing to happen in Flex.
So is there any thing that can be done in Adobe Flex 4 in TLF 1.1 so that we can add these rules in the view generated using Flex.
I was initially thinking of using inline graphics but I it will not help my cause.
Please share if there is any way out

Interesting problem! Here's a suggestion to try.
Make your own ContainerController class that derives from ContainerController and overrides the addTextLine protected method. Each time a line is added, check it to see if it is the first or last line of the paragraph (assuming you wanted rules above and below). If so, then create a new DisplayObject for the rule, and make the rule a child of the TextLine. Then call super.addTextLine, which will add the TextLine to the container. To determine whether the line is first or last, get the TextFlowLine from the TextLine's userData. The TextFlowLine has a location property which will tell you if the line is first, last, middle, or only. To get TLF to use your derived ContainerController class, pass in one of your ContainerController's when you call addController on the textFlow's flowComposer.
So, your code might look something like this:
textFlow.flowComposer.addController(new RuleContainerController(sprite, width, height));
class RuleContainerController extends ContainerController
     override protected function addTextLine(textLine:TextLine, index:int):void
          var line:TextFlowLine = textLine.userData as TextFlowLine;
          if (line.location & TextFlowLine.LAST)
               ruleAfter:DisplayObject = // set up the rule here
               textLine.addChild(ruleAfter);
          super.addTextLine(textLine, index);
This code will add a rule to every paragraph, which may not be what you want. But you could add a user property that you add to the paragraph, and then the addTextLine could use the TextFlowLine to get the paragraph and only attach the rule if property is set.
This is really just sketched out, I haven't compiled or debugged it or anything, but it seems like it might work for your problem. Let me know how it works!

I can't find an option in Firefox to disable animations on a webpages as a general rule.

My video graphics performance sucks on this pc. I need to find an option in Firefox that, as a rule, doesn't not allow animations on webpages.
IE had a long list of how webpages are handled, but I just can't find all of these options.
Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with Firefox yet.
Please help?

You could check for upgrades for graphics drivers (and DIrectX), if that fails disable hardware accel, im not sure you can turn all animations off.

Rules in Mail-can't find

This should be an easy thing. I have been using Entourage on an OS 10.4 machine but now have a new Macbook Pro with Leopard. When I open Mail, I have my emails all setup and can receive and send. I would like to use Rules to label things so I went to Preferences and looked for the Rules tab but I can't find it. Can anyone help? Is this common and if not, is there a way to reinstall Mail to fix it? I'm still a little new to OSX having used XP for years so I'm not sure. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Nevermind...it's there but behind a set of arrows that was grayed out so I thought it was an inactive menu. Duh. Thanks for the help.

The "new" Pages is missing just about everything.
Your best best is to go back to the old Pages (mavericks puts in in your applications folder in IWorks.
Apple told me that based on input from users they will add back some missing features back but I suspect that will take a long time if ever.
They (Apple) say they created a new Pages to make it work seamlessly on various devices.
But in doing so they've dumbed down the programs to where they're nearly useless.
Any new users who don't know what "old" Pages could do will probably be satisfied.
But those of us who use this program to do real publishing should send feed back to Apple.
Apple has decided that we are "heavy" users and not representative of the majority of their customers.
That's why I suspect that putting back the features in Pages will not be top priority.
But just in case they really do read the feedback send them your opinions and feature requirements and just maybe if enough people squawk they'll at least put the old Pages back in the App Store (it's gone now).
One possibility crossed my mind. If the new OS Yosemite can mirror devices, perhaps we'll be able to mirror the old pages on to our IOS devices than you could have the full capability of Pages and the connivence of an IPad or IPhone.
Wouldn't that be awesome?
At least in the presentation, it looked like it could work, we'll see.

GREP: How can I find ^\*.+\* if asterisks are in multiple paragraphs?

If I put ^\*.+\* into GREP field of Find dialog, it does not work. I am assuming it doesn't work because the two asterisks are in different paragraphs and it can only find two-asterisks-with-text-in-between if they are in the same paragraph.
Any help would be appreciated
