Can't find photos on iPhone 4S IOS 7.0.4

When I click on the photos app and then photos I see pictures that are not in camera roll in the albums section. These photos also do not show up on my PC when I download photos off my phone. The camera roll photos do but not these other photos. How do I consolidate and or remove these mystery photos? These are old photos. Any new photos go directly to camera roll. When photo stream used to be on the phone I would see them there but that is gone now since the update I believe.

It sounds like you have photos in the camera app in albums other than Camera Roll and want to get rid of them. From what you describe it seems like the photos were synced over using iTunes. When you have the phone connected to iTunes click it, and go to the Photos tab which is listed toward the top along with Summary, Info, Music, etc.:

You can choose what photos to sync if any at all.

I manually backup all the photos on my iPhone 5s once every couple of months, but recently came across a problem.
-I'm running IOS 8.1.2
-I've historically used iCloud and Photostream to back up my pictures, and then I'd occasionally copy pictures to a backup hard drive by browsing/copying them via Explorer from my Windows 8.1 workstation.   I have not yet turned on the new "iCloud Photo Library" beta feature. I thought about it, but it immediately warned me about losing all pictures on my phone, and I wanted to back them up first.   And this led to the below scenario . . .
I tried backing up my photos to a hard drive for the first time in a couple of months today, but ran into a strange problem.   (Probably first time since upgrading to IOS 8)
I only have about 300 pictures on my phone.   When I plug my iPhone in via USB, I can browse the iPhone memory like a flash drive. I go into the DCIM folder, there are a bunch of subfolders that contain pictures.   There are a number of pictures on my iPhone that I don't see when browsing this directory. The are all more than a couple of months old.
I CAN see the "missing" pictures when browsing my phone via the Photos app. They're both in the Photos/Moments section and also within the Albums\iPhone from my Computer section.    I'm assuming these have been backed up via iCloud, but don't see any way that I can retrieve them so that I can backup manually.
I do have the iCloud control panel installed on the workstation. It is logged in successfully, and the photo stream and iCloud Photo Sharing options are all active.   The local iCloud directory (e:\iCloud) that I've set is empty though. No pictures reside there at all.   I also have a Windows 8.1 item on my "This PC" panel for "iCloud Photos". I'm not sure if that's using the same directory I just mentioned, but it's empty as well.   Finally, I went to the default Windows 8.1 "Pictures" directory as well.   Also empty.
Is anyone familiar with how to access pictures in iCloud and download them manually? I'm assuming that's what needs to be done.

I am having this issue too. Have you happened to find a solution?
I can transfer them via airdrop to the computer, but that takes a heck of a long time.

We don't know your passwords. If you forgot the password for your photo vault then you are out of luck. Consult with the developer of the vault to find out if there is any password recovery.

Where did you put them?
These are not part of the sync process at all, as the manual tells you. You should be importing them to your comptuer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

Do you know the date they were taken? Try search on that.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) . I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha! I should have paid attention and read between the lines! My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do! I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy. I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events) ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

I also am having problems. I have the newest ipad (4 and mini both) and also all software is up to date. My itunes is 11.0.5 which is the most up to date version. First off my ipad has over 7 GB of photos on it which is taking up too much space. I want to delete my Photo Library which is apparently all photos off my laptop that got synced to my ipad. The ipad itself will not allow a delete option in this Photo Library. Additionally the new version of itunes does NOT have a Photo tab or option to click or otherwise which photos to sync. It's as if photos through itunes was removed in their new software version. Anyway...... I can not delete or remove from my ipads the photos that came from my main computer.... the only photos able to be deleted are those that I actually took from my ipad. Sorry, yes indeed you can do that, I thought you wanted to keep the accounts the way they are now and also share photo stream between all devices, which of course is not possible.
In order to login to the account you are currently logged in to as a secondary account, as a primary account, and vice versa, you will need to delete both accounts from that device and then log back into them with the correct account as a primary (settings > iCloud) and the correct account as a secondary (settings > mail, contacts, calendars).

I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.

iTunes Match allows 25,000 songs so I don't think apple see 20,000 as outside the design parameters.
Anyway I'll wait in hope that someone can offer a solution to the path that Finder uses for each different connection as that's where the answer lies, that or a way to change the path of the server in iTuens, but all the forums I have looked at suggest you can't do that?

This can happen because the iOS device is on travels distant from the iTunes computer, because the iTunes computer is on travels distant from the iOS device, because the iTunes computer has failed permanently, because the iTunes computer has been stolen, etc.

The only possibility I can think of, is to consult with an Apple Store Genius. See if there is some kind of Apple proprietary software or diagnostic tool that can do it.
I do not think you want to, but you could go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings. If you decided to do that, you might be able to restore from a previous backup when you get home.
