Can't find preferences after migration

Just used Migration Assistant to move files from old Mini to MacBook. Appears to have transferred necessary apps, files, etc. But I can't find my preferences for key applications (firefox, address book, iphoto, email, etc.)
I was able to copy over my music from itunes. I had to select all of the files from the old hard drive folder, and then paste them into my iTunes window in order to get them to show up in the Library.
Now I really need to find my Address Book contacts, email folders, etc.
Any ideas?
thanks.
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

connect up the old machine in Target Mode again, and from your users/Library, drag over the Mail folder, and AddressBook, and then, from the Preference folder, bring over the whole folder. Then restart.

  • Can't find documents after migrating from PC

I've just tried to transfer everything from my PC to my Mac using the migration assistant. It said the job was completed, and showed the files transferring, but I can't find them on my Mac. Please can you help?

I assume you logged into the user, then looked in your Music, Pictures and Movie type folders right?
If not there, you might just have to transfer manually.
It's no big deal, you just need a external drive formatted FAT32 (aks FAT, MSDOS) on the Windows PC, transfer your files folders to it and then connect it to the Mac.
If you happened to have larger than 4GB sized files, you need to format the drive exFAT on Windows, if you have Windows XP you need to download exFAT from Microsoft and install that first before formatting the drive. Vista and Win 7 already has exFAT.
Mac's can read/write exFAT and FAT32 no problem, it's if you format the exteranl drive NTFS on Windows that the Mac can't write it.
Perhaps that's why your migration didn't go as expected, Microsoft may have slightly changed something and the Mac didn't read the NTFS drive and it's changes.
So go the FAT32/ exFAT with a external drive and just transfer the contents of your files into the same folders on the same named user on the Mac and most everything should work as expected.

  • Can't open iTunes after migrating new computer

Can't open iTunes after migrating my old powerbook to my new macbook pro. Get the error message: "The file iTunes Library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Help!

Did you install the latest version of iTunes on the new PC? The usual reason for this is that you had a newer version on the old PC.
If you can't get it to work the simplest thing to do is to drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml from the iTunes folder to desktop.
Then start iTunes and use the following link to recreate your library.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
Note you already dragged the library files out of the iTunes folder.

Is there any solution about this issue?

Select it and open the Info dialog. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you should have read & write access, and everyone (else) should have read access. If that's not the case, click the lock icon, authenticate, and make the necessary changes. Close the window and try again.

  • I can't find iSync after lion install

I can't find iSync after lion install. I try too sync with my N8 Nokia. The program iSync dont appear in program mapp.

It's Apple's software not yours and as shown by it's exclusion on the OS X Lion pages is not part of the new OS. Upgrading to Lion is optional.
It's a trivial matter to copy it back from your Snow Leopard backup, but using it under Lion is not supported at all and WILL stop working sooner or later.
Why would it be sensible for Apple to include software in their new OS that they know will stop working?

  • IPhone 6 screen freezes and can't find wifi after iOS 8.0.2 update

iPhone 6 screen freezes and can't find wifi after iOS 8.0.2 update. Have to do a hard reboot. I am Extremely disappointed and lost ALL trust in Apples Quality Assurance. From now on I'll wait a week before I update.

    Hey there Shortos,
It sounds like your phone touchscreen is not consistently working for you after updating to iOS 8. I can see how that would be pretty frustrating. It sounds to me like this could be a software issue or an issue with the screen itself. I would start with the troubleshooting in the following article to help troubleshoot the screen itself:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If that does not resolve the issue, I would next quit all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Can't find data after transfer between macs using migration assistant

I wanted to transfer data between my Macbook air using Mountain lion and a MacBook pro using Mavericks. I did it using migration assistant through Wi-Fi. The process was completed without problems but I can't find the data on the MacBook pro!
It was my pictures folder, about 50Go and I can't find it anywhere on the new computer. It should be easy since there is almost nothing on there at the moment. It is a new install.
The disk utility tells me that I have now an extra 50Go of space used, so it must have been transferred...
    Any idea?
    Thanks

I found my data in the shared folder. Not all of it was there and in the end a nice lady from Apple told me to start again from the beginning and delete the mess the import program created
I am still a bit confused over the red circles but make sure you are in the right account when trying to see the data as I dont think even as admin I could see the main user account (I had 5 for the family).
There is a button under the get info tab that can change some of the permissions
    Frustrating isnt it

  • Can't find files after restoring them from Time Machine

    Hi!
Yesterday I formated my macbook pro and re-install Mountain Lion. Before that I made a backup using Time Machine.
When I wanted to create full system restore I couldn't do that. Neither using migration assistant neither with Mountain Lion startup disk. But that was yesterday story. I guess I was one of those unlucky guys who can't do a system restore because some strange reason.
So what is the problem today: They someone says that I should enter a time machine and do a restore of a Macintosh HD. Restore of the whole hard disc.
    And I did that.
And now I can't find those files on my Macbook. I can see on disk space  that they are on the disc but I can't find them.
Is it because of the different user account or something like that?
It would be really great if I could get a full system restore but it would be also great if I could just see all the files that i restored.
    THanks for the help guys!

That's not the right way to restore. Delete the folder named "Macintosh HD" in the Volumes folder. It will take a very long time.
Most likely, some folders were inadvertently excluded from your backups, and as a result you can't restore your data in Recovery, Setup Assistant, or Migration Assistant.
Starting from a fresh installation of OS X, set up a new administrator account and log in. You should now be able to enter Time Machine and restore your user data from a snapshot.* I suggest you do this in two stages. Quit all applications except the Finder before you begin.
Restore all the visible items at the top level of your home folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Enter Time Machine and restore all items in the Library folder. Log out and log back in as soon as the restore is complete.
Any other invisible folders or files at the top level of your home folder that you want to preserve will have to be restored separately. For most users, that isn't necessary.
You'll have to reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, or restore them from another kind of backup, if you have one.
You'll have another problem if this is a new computer, or if you erased the startup volume: Time Machine won't continue your previous snapshot series, but will instead try to begin a new one, starting with a full copy of all files. There might not be enough space on your backup volumes for that. There are different ways of dealing with that situation, depending on your needs. The easiest way is to set your backup drives aside, if possible, until you're sure you'll no longer need the data on them, then erase them and start over. Meanwhile start a new backup on one or more empty storage devices. If that solution isn't workable for you, ask for instructions.
*If you don't see any snapshots in Time Machine, exit the time-travel view and then hold down the option key while selecting
    Browse Other Backup Disks...
from the Time Machine menu, which has an icon that looks like a clock running backwards. Select the backups of your computer by its previous name. If you don't have the Time Machine menu, open the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked
Show Time Machine in menu bar

  • Can't find rental after opting to download now and watch later

    Hey everyone,
I recently upgraded my AppleTV device to version 6.0, and I also rented a movie recently that I had in my wish list from before the upgrade. A prompt appeared when I started to rent the title asking me if I wanted to "Rent and Watch Now" or "Rent and Watch Later." I chose the second option and now I can't find my rented title anywhere. It was removed from my wish list and I don't see it amongst my purchased titles anywhere. I searched for  the title again and added it back to my wish list, so that I could attempt to rent it again. When I did this I received the following dialog:
"You have already rented this item
You have already rented this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, go to the Settings menu, select Downloads, then Check for Downloads."
There is no Downloads item in the Settings menu. I did find a "Check for Rentals" option under the iTunes Store settings option, but when I select that option I just get a spinning icon endlessly.
I must say I'm not used to this kind of experience with Apple. This seems really stodgy.

I don't know if this was the most elegant solution, but I just reset the AppleTV and after setting it back up and resetting my iTunes account the rented title is appearing at the top of the screen when selecting "Movies."
    That's that.

  • Can't Find iLife after Password Change

I bought a used MacBookPro with OS X 10.5.6 installed fresh. On initial startup I set up my Account. The computer wouldn't recognize any passwords initially. Had to change Administrator's Password. Prior to this iLife applications were on this computer. After changing the Administrator Password they don't show up. However, when I try to download updates of them it won't do anything because it says a newer version is already on the computer -- which makes me think that iLife is still on there, but I can't find it. I only have the OS X 10.5.6 single disk which does not contain iLife on it to try and re-install. Can anyone offer help?

Spotlighting iLife doesn't find anything on my computer -- which is so odd. Unfortunately this used computer only came with the MacOSX single disk (which BestBuy pennied out to me). The original owner did not return any disks with the machine (Original OS was Tiger?). I'm a little afraid of buying iLife that when I try to load it, it won't, because for some reason my computer thinks I already have it. Guess I'll have to risk the 79 bucks. Thanks.
