Can't find remote speakers with itunes

This just happened randomly. I have Airport Express connected wirelessly to itunes, and then connected to my stereo. I have turned everything off (including AE, iBook, router - everything) and back on. itunes is still set to look for remote speakers, but it just does not see them. Yesterday it was working, today it is not.
PS I tried to download a new copy of itunes, but it will not install
Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you ever been able to see the remote speakers or is this a new problem?
I'm having problems with this as well, but I've been streaming audio to multiple speakers for several days. This morning I noticed that my remote speakers didn't showup in iTunes.
The work around for this appears to be to reset the airport (at least that's worked for me).
If you've seen your remote speakers before, then you might try resetting your airport by unplugging it and then plugging it back in or use the airport admin to update something that won't affect it's operation like the "location" notation.

  • Just added Lion and now can't use remote speakers with iTunes

I recently installed the Lion OS (10.7.4) and now I cannot access my remote connection to my home stereo for iTunes. I can't find the icon to even select multiple spakers.

I suggest optening the Print & Scan Sytem Preferences. Once the preference pane opens highlight your printer in the Printers column on the left side of the window, then click on the little minus sign below the printer in order to remove your current printer selection.
Once your printer has been deleted, then click on the little plus sign located next to the minus sign in order to re-select your printer. Once the 'AddPrinter' window opens simply select your printer from the list. Make sure the printer is powered ON, there are no error LED's ON, and that any necessary cables are connected to your iMac. Hopefully reselecting the printer will resolve your issue.

  • ITunes can't find remote speakers

I know others have had this problem. I am running a PC with XP media center. My airport is wired to the network & green light is on. iTunes does not show the drop down box for remote speakers so nothing streams to my stereo. I have checked the box "look for remote speakers" in iTunes preferences. I have McAfee firewall which I have set to "open". I have loaded and reloaded iTunes, Airport and Bonjour trying all versions and upgrades via the web. The only notation I can find in Apple support is the article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108071 which is about as useless as ... well, you know.
    Any good ideas?

  • Can't find remote speakers. Other computers can.

    1. The find remote speakers IS checked in my iTunes.
    2. I am accessing the Internet through the Air Port Express, so I know I am connecting to the AP.
    3. I can connect to it wired or wirelessly, but I do not have a choose speakers option on iTunes either way.
    4. All of the other computers (Mac and XP) in the office are connecting (as I type).
    5. I could connect to the speakers yesterday.
    Any Ideas??
I set up the Airport Express as an AP, there is a wired router in the network. Users can connect wired or wirelessly to the Airport's shared speakers. There are currently 3-5 users trying to connect to the speakers. I am the only one who cannot.

  • New iMac can't access remote speakers in iTunes

i use an airport express to play music from eMac to my stereo. This works fine. I just purchased a new iMac. I'm able to turn the Airport On in iTunes, and I can see my remote speakers, but the selection is grayed out. I've tried updating the firmware on the airport express, performing a soft reset, unplugging it, and nothing works. Thanks for your help!!!

Did you ever fix this? I am having the same issue!

  • ITunes on  iMac cannot find remote speakers, but iTunes on MacBook can!!!

I have a home wireless network provided by a third party ADSL modem, and an Airport Express connected to a stereo system. My MacBook has no problem playing iTunes music remotely through the AE/stereo system. The WEIRD thing is that my iMac Intel Core Duo is not able to establish a connection to the same AE/stereo system - even though the MacBook and iMac are located at almost the same spot, they are running the same version of OSX and iTunes (all my software is up to date on both computers), and both have no problems connecting to the internet through the wireless network.
What could be wrong with my iMac, or with iTunes on the iMac?

I have the same problem. I have two Airport Express units. The base is connected to the Cable/Modem for internet use. I have a Bose surround sound system also plugged into that Express unit. The other Express was used for extending the range for my old Titanium Laptop that recently bit the dust. (Waiting for Leopard before I leap;)
I was able to use iTunes music from my iMac by selecting the "speakers" I wanted. Either Express, I tried them both. I was quite successful in this remote streaming of my music library for a couple weeks. However, in the past 5 days I can not select the "speakers", they are no longer recognized by iTunes. I made sure the iTune preference to scan for wireless systems was checked. It was.
The next option was to try to reconfigure using the program Airport Admin Utility. The AAU does not even find either Express unit. I did a factory reset on "extra" Express unit and connected it by my Ethernet LAN. Then the Express is detected.
One would think that my iMac or Express did not function as a wireless system. However, I am sending this message from my iMac, through the base Express that is connected to the internet. That function thankfully does work.
Can it be a corrupted Airport Admin Utility? I tried to find a download on the Apple site to no avail. I tried to find it on my Tiger install CD's.
    Any ideas?

  • Still can't find remote speakers!

I know I have written before, but am peeved that I still can't get my PC to find my remote speakers (they are not listed). My Mac has no problems with this so I know my network is fine. I don't have bonjour, I checked the firewall, and installed the new iTunes. Please let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks!

I set it all up on my Mac and my PC this morning.
Shut everything down because of a pending storm.
Fired it all up tonight and tried it again.
At first the remote speakers showed up on the PC, but they were in italics. So I rebooted. Now they don't show up at all. The box is just gone.
    Works fine from the Mac.
I tried reinstalling iTunes and everything.
What a piece of crap. Can I say that on here?! First, nothing but fits getting the iPod to work on a friend's PC, and now this. Sheesh!

MY computer can find them via USB so i can look at my pictures from "my computer".
    please help anyone :-)

    Hello ErdalDK,
It sounds like you are unable to see your devices either via Wi-Fi or when connected with a USB cable. I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article named:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
If that does not resolve the issue, I would recommend re installing iTunes again, but also its associated apps. The following article will walk you through that if needed:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I can't find the device with iTunes 11

I want to change the sync setting on my iphone and ipod. When I connect the device and launch iTunes I see the device listed at the top right but when I click on it, it disappears. Syncing happens but I can't change the settings on the sync. I have the iTunes 11.0.2 and Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro.

You can try google device manager instead.

  • Can not get menu for remote speakers in itunes to come back.

I've been using airport express for many years.
A few months ago my modem went out.
While waiting for a new one to arrive, I still wanted to listen to my music. So I just selected computer speakers from the drop down in lower right corner of itunes.
The menu immediately disappeared when I selected computer speakers.
When I set up the new modem, the drop down did not reappear.
Tried a bunch of things. Read a bunch of older forums. Nothing.
It's been months. I need my music and I'm back at it again!
    Today (in this order) I:
Reset my macbookpro (option apple p r)
reset airport express (held in reset while plugged in, waited for flashes)
set up airport express from scratch. Named it. All seems well.
    light is green
Made sure find remote speakers from itunes pref was checked. (unchecked and checked it again)
Made sure itunes music sharing was checked from my firewall settings. (unchecked and checked it again)
    Restarted itunes (a few times)
    Nothing. Nothing . Nothing.
Airfoil says that if itunes can't find remote speakers, then neither will airfoil.
So I won't try downloading that as a fix...
    PLEASE!? ANYONE!?
    Yes my wires are checked.

I have pretty much the same problem.
I just set up a new Belkin Wireless N router, to replace my G and hopefully speed up my network, but now I've lost my Airport Express.  It's still hooked up to my stereo, but the light is amber now and won't turn green.
Also, my iTunes can't find my remote speakers, and I can't even get the menu which used to have Computer and Living Room on it.
How can I get my iTunes to find that little Airport Express dude?

  • My iPad won't turn on.  It has a usb cord picture with an up arrow pointing to iTunes logo.  I can't find my device in iTunes.

I can't get my iPad to turn on.  I have done everything the internet said, other than looking device up in iTunes, because I can't find my device in iTunes.  What can I do?  It is stuck with a usb cord picture with an up arrow pointing to iTunes logo.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • "can't find remote speaker"

AirPort works fine for an hour or two, but then the audio dies and iTunes says (something like) "can't find remote speaker".
I have to disconnect from the network and connect again. "repairing wireless connection" also works.
Do you know of any way around this problem?
    Thanks,
    Peter

Try changing the channel used by your wireless network (or by the Airport Express itself if it is being used as a standalone device). Some experimentation may be required - start with either channel 1 or 11.

  • Does anyone know how to connect wireless speakers with itunes through airplay?

Does anyone know how to connect wireless speakers with itunes through airplay? I am not getting the airplay icon in itunes.

JBL doesn't have any speakers called "Spiral" that I can find, but anyway, perhaps something in this Apple support article on AirPlay troubleshooting will help:

I can't synch my iPhone with iTunes because the device does not show up in a device window when I plug it in...it's missing in action and thus I'm not able to add any content from the iTunes to my iPhone, e.g. podcasts.   All the instructions on synching start with "find your device in the device window".  But what if you have no device window?
