Can't find songs in my artist section

So I recently got a MacBook Pro and burned a ton of cds onto it, but when I put all of the songs onto my iPhone, I noticed that some of them don't go into the actual artist group. For example, I put on a Coldplay cd and I can find the songs in the songs section but when I go to the artist name, I can only find the Coldplay songs that I've bought and downloaded from iTunes, not the ones I burned. Weirdly enough, some of the cds I burned went into the artist section just fine. Hopefully that wasn't too confusing.. Thanks for any answers!!

When you import a CD into iTunes, iTunes contacts the Gracenote music database to automatically download song titles, artist, year, etc. However, since the data is user-submitted, not all of the data is accurate. It seems like some of your albums did not have "Coldplay" written in as the artist.
Go to Music in iTunes, and select the albums you want (Command-click to select multiple items.) Secondary-click on one of the selected items and select Get Info. Manually enter "Coldplay" as artist. Click OK. Sync.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
All the storage in "Backups" is taken up by local snapshots, which are made automatically in all MacBooks, MacBooks Pro and MacBooks Air with OS X Lion or newer and Time Machine turned on.
See > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html I recommend you to leave them there, because they will be removed automatically. However, if you want, you can disable or remove them manually if you want, even if there's no reason to do this. Have a look at the link above for more information

  • ITunes can't find songs anymore!

All my music is stored on my external HD. I've imported it all in iTunes a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly, BUT THEN...
I turned on my computer with my iPod plugged in but i forgot to turn my HD on. So ofcourse iTunes couldn't find the songs. But now when I do have my HD on it still can't find the songs, it gives a sign next to the names, while they're in the same location as they used to be. I also checked the iTunes library xml file and it gives the right location.
I also still had my library files and program folder saved on the HD so i tried recopying these in the right directions but the problem won't solve.
I've got lots of songs so relocating them one by one won't work for me, also i don't want to reimport it all because then I'll have to change some song names back again and it'll copy everything on my ipod again which takes hours..
Is there any way to solve this?
(btw the songs are all in one folder on the harddrive)

I bet windows changed the exHD letter on you.
Eject the ipod, close itunes, and make sure the exHD letter is whatever it was before this mess happened.

  • Can't find songs, playlists, and don't know what this cloud is my music seems to be floating off to.

Ever since I got my new iPod, my music library is insane. I lost all my playlists to begin with. I can't see my full library unless I go to iTunes Store!!!  I didn't pay for the cloud, yet all my songs in iTunes have a cloud next to them. My libraries are missing most of my songs, except, as I said, when I sign in to iTunes Store, then, as I said, still none of my previous playlists, are there. I have searched my Previous Libraries on my computer, and I can't find the very songs I was just working with the other day. This all started when I connected my Nano. I will not be using it again. Apparently it had something to do with this. Although I did upgrade to latest version of iTunes to use it, so maybe that's the problem. What's with this Cloud business? I didn't pay anything to get it, and yet it appears all my music is in it????? My biggest problem is that there is no Chat available, and when I go for help, they want a serial number. There's no serial number for iTunes. I am one step from leaving iTunes altogehter. But I have spent so much money here. HELP

  • I-tunes can't find songs in library on new external hard-drive

My Western Electric hard-drive died and I purchased a new Seagate external drive. I moved my I-tunes music library with all my songs to the new drive and changed the location of my library in I-tunes. When I open I-tunes it can't find any of my songs. There is an ! in front of every one. The locaction of the music folder is set correctly in I-tunes and the songs are all still there. I can individually locate the songs and they play fine but this isn't practical for a 10,000 song library. I think the problem has something to do with the auto-backup software that came with the Seagate. It creates a series of directories and hidden files when doing a back-up. I can't sync my I-pod because I'll lose my whole libarary since I-tunes can't find the songs. Help.

All of my several thousand mp3s are on an external HD, and i-tunes just comes up with an exclamation mark next to each of the tunes saying it can't find the original file.
Have these always been on the external and they were previously working?
I've changed the i-tunes music location to my external HD (F drive) in preferences
If you moved the music yourself, this will simply tell iTunes to use that location for anything in the future. It will still look for everything in iTune in teh location it was at before.
    and consolidated the library,
Consolidating will copy everything in iTunes to the location you set in iTunes prefs -> Advanced - iTunes music folder location.
If you moved all the music from that location then consolidated, there is nothing to move, since iTunes will be looking for music in the original location.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get i-tunes to relocate all of my music files
Let iTunes relocate them. You do not relocate them.
    Do this...
    Quit iTunes.
Move all the music back to the original location. Don't leave the music there as iTunes will simply duplicate it at that location when you consolidate.
    Open iTunes.
Make sure iTunes prefs -> Advanced is set to the external where you want it.
Then File -> Libary -> Consolidate.

  • Itunes can't find songs

Wonder if anyone could help with a problem. I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive. I always try to make sure I connect the drive before opening iTunes but on one occasion I didn't and I found that iTunes changed the library to the default location on my C drive (in my docs/my music folder). I instantly changed this to point to the one on the external drive (H) but now I am getting question marks next to loads of songs indicating that iTunes can't find them. I can't work out why this is??
Does iTunes do something else when moving the location of the library?
Is there a quick way to get iTunes to see all these tracks again without re-importing the tracks from the external drive into iTunes?
    Regards
    Chris

Whit the library location pointing to your external drive, you can click on file at the top of itunes and use add to library. Then in the window that comes up, navigate to the drive and folder that houses your music. If the music is exactly the same, itunes should re-associate the music back to itunes without duplicating entries.

  • ITunes 7.7 can't find songs

I upgraded to iTunes 7.7, and the next time I opened iTunes
it couldn't find any of the songs in my iTunes Library(all exclamation
    points).
I went to preferences and selected the "iTunes music" folder
where they were stored, and hit the "change" button.
It went through the whole "Updating iTunes Library" process, and "Keep files organized" process, and still all exclamations.
I used Time Machine to restore iTunes 7.26, iTunes Library, and the 4 iTunes.plist files in Preferences, and still it can't find the songs.
    Anything I'm missing?
    Thanks!

Oh, sorry--the iTunes Music folder is on an external drive

  • HT203167 can't find songs that iTunes says i have already purchased

I go to the iTunes Store to purchase a song and when I find the song and click on it to purchase I get a message saying that I have already purchased this song in the past.  Do I wish to purchase it again?  I click on cancel and go look for the song in my Purchased Folder and can not find the song. This has happened on a few songs.  How do I get all the songs that I have ever purchased to show up in my Purchased Folder?

  • Spotlight can't find song text in iTunes

In iTunes you can type the text of a song in the field: Text - but Spotlight can't find this information.
But if you copy the same text in Info - and the box: comments - Voila - Here we go!
It would be a good thing if Spotlight can find all the information you have about your songs - like text from a Dashboard widget - (this text file IS FOUND!)
Is it possibel for Spotlight to find this information?
    Thanks

    Hi, flemminglimar.
There's no "Text" field in the Get Info window for any song I have in iTunes. I'm running iTunes 6.0.2.
If I launch iTunes, Control-Click a song, select Get Info from the resulting context menu, then click the Info tab, there's no Text field therein.
Have you installed some tool like ID3X for adding lyrics to sounds?
iTunes now includes a Lyrics tab into which one can type or paste song lyrics. This seems to be a relatively recent addition to iTunes. Adding content to the Lyrics tab of a song file actually writes them inside the song file itself, but Spotlight does not find them. It appears that the Spotlight plug-in for Audio has not been updated since Tiger was released and does not index the lyrics, hence it cannot find songs based on their lyrics.
    Good luck!

  • Music is on Ipod but Library says it can't find songs

somehow I deleted a whole bunch of songs from my Ipod but I had them backed up to a USB Flash drive I put them back on the Ipod but itunes library says it can't find the songs when I sync the ipod

Try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:

  • Can't find songs in iPod, Works in iTunes, Synchs ok, but still 0 songs

I am new to my iPod Nano 4thGen 8GB and just downloaded the new iTunes 8 (latest version). I'm running SP2 on Windows and iTunes installed perfectly. It even added all my music directly to the iTunes library. iTunes found my iPod, assigned a name, and then automatically started to sync Library with my Nano.
All the song files seem to be ok as they all play in iTunes perfectly fine. I can even see that the music was synchd because now my 8GB Nano only has ~4GB remaining and when I open my iPod through windows I can see the music files inside a /music folder. BUT... when I eject my iPod and try to find the music in the music folder it says 0 songs!!!
I did the 5Rs and even reinstalled iTunes and restored my Nano, but no luck. Please help me understand why I can synch my Nano in iTunes, see the memory is being used, but continue to see 0 SONGS in my iPod?!?!

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod

  • How can I recombine songs from different artists on 1 album to show as 1 album on itunes?

How can I have all of the songs on 1 album listed together?  I have several CDs on which multiple artists participated.  On the iPhone & in iTunes it lists the same album several times, each with different combinations of artists.  It is 1 album!
For example, I just uploaded the CD "Super Session".  On my iPhone music library it has 5 lsitings.

Same procedure but hit SHIFT instead of CTRL.
Actually, it's right click or ctrl click, same as windows.

  • Where can I find information about creative/artistic software for my Mac?

I write (mostly children's plays) so I need to find out exactly what kinds of software are available to me for scripts, film, published material, etc. I am planning to rewrite a script which has been produced on stage several times into an animated film if I can learn how.  I need some software to help me with this project.
I also want software with various capabilities for needlework, quilting, crochet, sewing, pattern design, etc.
For years I have seen artists and craftspersons on tv demonstrating work they have designed on their own computers and then transferred to an art medium and though I have looked, I am evidently not checking in the right places to find said software.
Any help, suggestions or websites you give will certainly be appreciated.
    Thanks

For writing you can use anything, but for the most bang for no money, I suggest the free LibreOffice suit.
It has word processing, spreadsheet, drawing and much more, all free. It's cross platform so anyone who downloads the free software can read it your files. Mac, PC or Linux, doesn't matter.

Well depends upon what sort of animation, 3D animation is very complex and requires a powerful machine and even racks of machines to do the final rendering.
2D simple animation I don't know of anything off hand, I'm guessing you need something that you can make changes in the frames and play it over and over until you get the desired result, moving things around and creating your story line. etc.
You'll need music and sound creation tools to create your clips, iMovie/GarageBand can likely help bring those two together, but doesn't do the animation, you need something else for that.

Ok your likely looking at the Adobe Creative Suite, with Photoshop, Illustrator and perhaps even InDesign for laying out any printed material like manuals and booklets.
Illustrator has exteremly fine controls of detailed artwork, create patterns that you can duplicate and so forth.

Well like any artist they use the computer to assist them to get their artwork done, but then need to use various manual techniques and sometimes very expensive machines you never see to transfer that medium to their end product.
Computers can't do everything, they are tools that can perform certain functions, it takes the human and training to transfer that to a finished piece.
A education in the graphics art field may assist you there, reading how to go about achieving your goals and see how a computer can help or not help.
You can check over at Cnet.com or MacUpdate.com for creative Mac software, lots ot choose from.

  • Can't find songs in their folders after one of the latest updates.

After either the latest or 2nd to last update, I couldn't find any of my songs that were in their original folders. (I had this problem for a while now, but never got around to looking for help on this forum.) What I mean by "original folders" is: after opening "Libraries > Music > iTunes > iTunes Media, I opened the folder of each artist and each album but could never find any songs. Anyone have this happen to them?

Itunes is using your songs from the storage device - the library contains pointers to the tracks there.
You need to check in your iTunes Music folder on your c: drive, are you music files there?
If they are, close iTunes then drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml to your desktop.
Open iTunes and an empty libary is created. Now use File>>Add folder to library to add your iTunes Music folder to iTunes.
If The files were not copied - i.e. they are not in your iTunes Music folder.
Go to Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General and check "Copy to iTunes Music Library when adding to Library".
Now Close iTunes and do the same dragging thing with the library files.
Open iTunes and use File>>Add folder to Library to add the music folder on the external storage device. This should copy the files for you.
