Can't find sorensen 3 codec in FCP 6

I'm sending audio out and the engineer requested a sorensen 3 QT. However I don't see that as n option either in FCP or in Compressor. Where did it go? Is it native somewhere else?

Apple's hidden (what it considers) older, out-of-date encoders by default in QT 7.4 or later.
But you can reveal them easily enough.

  • Where can I find the 1080i25 codec for Final Cut Express?

I have found that the Sony HDR-HC3E is use the 1080i25 Codec,
Final Cut Express only provide 1080i50 and 1080i60,
So the quality of source after capture is very poor!
Is that FCE has 1080i25 codec?
    Where can I find?

There's no such thing as 1080i25. The i is for interlaced and has either 50 fields or 60 fields (actually 59.97, but that's another story). There is 1080p25, but I don't believe that camera can shoot that.
Where are you looking at the playback of the captured material? QuickTime player set to high quality or somewhere else?

  • Can't find a P2 driver for FCP 6.0

    Hi,
We just hired a company to do a shoot and they put P2 files
    on my XHD.
They told me I need to download the P2 driver.
They sent me a link to the creative cow site with
a demonstration video and the link to download the driver.
I clicked on the link and and it said Not Found.
I've tried another download at the Panasonic site and
that didn't seem to work-it's nowhere to be found on my harddrive.
In the demo video it said you will see the contents folder
and LASTCLIP.TEXT. and you can't convert the footage without both.
    Is this the driver
    Any ideas?
    Kevin

OK, you have everything BUT the Lastclip.txt file. And that's something FCP 6 wants.  FCP 7 again, doens't need that.  So...you are in a pickle.
    You can try this:
#38-P2 - Missing LASTCLIP.txt file.  How to rebuild.
Shane's Stock Answer #38 - When you offloaded  the P2 cards, you forgot to get the LASTCLIP.tct file?  No worries, not all is lost.
    MISSING LASTCLIP.TXT FILE:
    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=58755
If you neglected to copy the "lastclip.txt" file all is not lost. Much like the six million dollar man, we can rebuild him.
Lastclip.txt can be generated by any text editor. If you are using a mac then open up textedit.
Create a new txt file. It will have 3 lines to it.
The first line is the name of the last clip that was recorded.
Back to the finder. Open up your CONTENTS folder. In there, open up your VIDEO folder. Organize the folder by Date Last Modified. Find the name of the last file in this folder. If you have 16 clips in the folder is will be 0016ag.mxf or something like that. Four numbers and two letters followed by .mxf.
Take this name and place in the first line of your text file. On the next line of the text file type in "1.0" (don't include the quotes).
The third line is the number of clips in the folder +1. If you have 16 clips then the third line should read "17" (again no quotes).
I'm not 100% sure if the number on the third line is the number of clips left in the folder (after any on-set deletions) or if it is the total number of clips generated during this session with the card. Try both. Remember to add 1 to that number.
Your txt file should like something like this:
    0016ab.mxf
    1.0
    17
That's it. You should be good to go. Put your CONTENTS folders in separate folders with separate LASTCLIP.txt folders and import them as separate P2 cards.
The annoying thing is that all of the various .mxf files in these 6 folders are locked items and they must all be unlocked manually to erase them.
It's much easier to import direct into FCP 5.0.4 or higher. It does so without leaving all of these locked files on your computer.
If THAT doesn't work, then you'll need to resort to third pary MXF software, like Calibrated's MXF IMPORT (calibratedsoftware.com).  I have it and it's great!

  • I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X. For example, can I export  in F4V or FLV format?

I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X.  For example, can I export  in FLV format?  Where do I find the list, which gives me all the details about it?  Or is there only one output codec? Thanks

That's an excellent analogy. While FCP cannot export FLV. It is possible to do a very simple substitution. If you export a QuickTime movie using the .mov suffix with the H.264 codec, you can change it to FLV simply by changing the suffix to .flv. This is an acceptable format for Flash movies on most web sites, if that's where you're trying to go.

  • How can i find out if i have a bad codec affecting after effects?

hi all, i'm having all kinds of problems with after effects cs4. the current problem i'm having is i'll be working on a project, it starts to slow down and become unresponsive, i try to save but then it crashes and everything i've done is lost. opengl is off but i don't think that's the problem because opengl isn't affecting any of my other programs like cinema 4d and i even tried taking out the opengl from the plugins folder but i was still getting opengl error messages with certain effects like the rotoscoping effect. i was wondering if maybe this might be a codec problem since i heard that ae loads codecs at start. how can i find out if a corrupted codec is affecting my after effects?
    after effects cs4
    amd turion 64 x2 mobile technology tl-62 2.10 ghz
    3 gb ram
    windows vista 32

    total graphics memory: 1343 mb
    dedicated graphics memory: 128 mb
    system video memory: 0 mb
    shared system memory: 1215 mb
i'm pretty much desperate to get this working as it's essential to my work flow and i can't afford to get a new computer right now (i should have bought a mac, now i know) so i'll try anything if you have any suggestions. thanks!

    >how can i find out if a corrupted codec is affecting my after effects?
You remove them all! ;-) I think you are going about this the wrong way.
a)If you ever installed any third-party CoDecs manually, they will be listed in the "Add or Remove Programs" section or have an uninstaller.
b)If those CoDecs were auto-installed e.g. via a web-browser, they will leave traces in the extension lists or even appear as separate entries somewhere as well.
    c) If the CoDecs were part of a program, then by all rights, you really should know which programs those are and know how to remove them.
Failing that, simply uninstall Quicktime completely. Reinstall it from scratch. Likewise, manually download a full install of Windows Media Player and reinstall it using the "Repair" option. Everything else is pure specualtion - AE may scan your CoDecs on startup, but if you never import any footage using them, they will not be initialized and not cause trouble.
And honestly: That Mac talk is not worth a dime. Final Cut Pro alone comes with 30 or so extra CoDecs, many of which have been known to be just as troublesome to use with Adobe products and you can encounter the same situation easily any time...

  • Updating to 5.1.4 -- can't find FCP

Hello: I've downloaded the 5.1.4 update but when I try to run it, I get a message saying: "You cannot install Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 on this volume. Final Cut Pro 5 (named Final Cut Pro.app and residing in applications) is required to run this update."
I check my applications folder, and Final Cut Pro is there. So I don't know why the updater can't find it.
I assume something might have gone awry when I initially installed FCP, and that I'll probably have to uninstall and re-install it from the original discs, but thought perhaps there was another explanation? Anyone?
    thanks.

Indeed, Studio X is right :
For anyone late in joining the FC Studio crossgrade:
Manually installing the following updates ...
    ProFX.pkg
    FxPlugWrapper.pkg
    FxPlug.pkg
    FinalCutProUpdate5.1.4.pkg
... will only work if you let Software Update download and install them itself.
For some reason, a Software Update Download followed by manual install won't work.
    Go figure!

  • How can I find out how many pros intend to use FCP X?

I work at a school and we have been teaching FCP 6 as part of a Multimedia program. Our goal is to provide training to students so they can continue on with a degree, or gain enough basic skills to get employment. I am now a bit concerned with FCP X. If the pro editors are not going to be using it then we will be doing a disservice to our students by continuing to teach it.
    1. How can I find some type of data indicating the adoption rate of FCP X by pro editors?
2 . Anyone noticing any trends with pro editors regarding shifting towards Avid, Premiere, or some other platform?
Thanks for any info or insight.

Two gentlemen I work with who are the primary video editors at the local area PBS outlet gave FCPX a try... they ended up not being able to use it because of:  1. stability problems, 2. Tape is still used in the studio and the ability to sync/control a transport is not there (as I understood) 3. They had problems syncing audio.
    4. One editor lost an afternoon's work after a crash.
They could see potential.. but in the end threw up their hands in desperation/disappointment.
If it's going to be the coolest thing out there... it's got a ways to go.

  • All of the sudden-fcp can't find xl1 or gl2 firewire?

2 cameras brand new cables and fcp can't locate them to log and capture.
Computer can't find digital cameras-but can find scanner with same firewire port????? Anyone ever had this problem? What could it be? Have tried eveything I can think of. Won't capture with imovie either???? Has always worked fine in the past.

Did you try Martin's suggestion of taking the scanner off the FW bus?
If you did that and it didn't resolve it. Then I'm stumped.
I mean, you have two camcorders doing the same thing, and SP shows the FW bus as active. And you say you've tried all the suggestions.
OK, have you tried Zebulun's Guinness Solution suggestion? Shut Down, and unplug the computer and all devices from AC. Pull the plugs completely. Have a Guinness. After at least 15 minutes, plug back in, boot up again and see if things improve.

However, be aware that Apple has neither the time nor the incentive to test every camera on the market, so there will be many more models, old and new, that will work perfectly even though they are not on the database.

i'm sitting here, and my camera is on.....imovie sees it, and when I close imovie and final cut says "your camera cannot be recognized"......so i restart, start up fcp again.....can't find it. then i open imovie, and it finds it.....what the heck!

The workaround is to download Quicktime manually, after removing the "receipts" which indicate that it is loaded. Specifically, I was told to do the following:
    1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).
    2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.
    3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.
    4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCP and see your camera.

  • Closed project tab and now can not find fcp file - is it gone really?

I was working on a fifteen minute documentary. Completed it, created a DVD and noticed a mistake as I was reviewing the dvd. Since I (Thought) I was done working on the project - I closed the tab and opened up a new project to begin working... Now I am trying to open up my documentary fcp file, and i can't find it anywhere... The only copy that is located when I try spotlight - is a version of it that I was working on 5 days ago, before most of the changes were made...
    Any ideas?

when you closed the tab you wil have been presented with a dialog telling you the project had been modified and asking you if you wanted to save the changes (Cancel, Save As, No and Yes) ... if you inadvertently pressed "No" then you you closed it without saving those changes.
assuming you are not so crazy as to edit without using the Autosave feature, take a look in your autosave directory, find you project folder and look for th emost recent save of that project ... even tho you didnt save at the end you should have at least a couple of autosave vesrions there

  • FCP Can't Find Cinema Tools

I saw a similar question to this but it did not answer my question.
I'm trying to open up Cinema Tools in FCP 7, but FCP can't locate it. I searched for Cinema tools and I see these, which makes me think it has to be on here, but i Can't find it.
I dont want to risk an uninstall if I dont have the CD to reinstall it.
I got my laptop already installed with Final Cut Pro, and I don't have the CD.
Cac some one please help me?

No, sorry. Cinema Tools came only as a component of the Final Cut Studio package.  It isn't a stand alone product.  It was back in 2005 when it first came out. But that wasn't a download, that was a separate CD installer.  And that version is incompatible with any of the Studio versions of FCP.
FCP doesn't come pre-installed on computers.  It is sold as a separate software bundle.  So you got part of the software when you bought the laptop...but you didn't get a legal license of FCP.  And unfortunately FCP-7 and any and all before it are End of Life...gone. No longer for sale new.  Only option is used/ebay.

  • FCP to STP: "Can't find render.mov"

I'm having trouble roundtripping FCP to STP. I control/click, choose send to STP, but half the time i get an error message that it can't find the "render.mov" file. Or, sometimes it goes to STP, but when I save to send it back, I get the same message.
Someone on another board suggested I delete all my render files via Render Manager, then re-render the timeline. Is that safe? Is there any risk involved in deleting those render files? Also, will deleting those also delete any STP changes I was able to make?
Thanks for any help or suggestions!
    David Manis

This is what you need to do. uninstall FCP and then install FCS. it may take time to find every thing. don't forget
    Library> application support> pro apps
Preferences too.. if you have footage on the computer that you want, don't delete those capture scratch files and render files.
there are some files in there also....

  • How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?

How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?
I have several movies from 2008 that are labeled as .mov but I now get a QuickTime error saying "The document "XXXXXX" could not be opened. A required Codec isn't available."
These movies ran in QuickTime just fine until about a month ago.
All the folders in which these movies were stored in 4 folders in 2 folders in one folder. All folders at each level were encrypted with Stuffit Deluxe a version circa 2008 and decrypted with a newer Stuffit Deluxe 10.x. Other movies that are NOT .mov and in with the .mov movies still run.
If I click on the Thumbnail Preview "It" runs.
    How can I fix this?
TOP image is the Error message.
BOTTOM image is the Thumbnail Preview info.
I've checked out "Tell Me More" and have not found a solution.

How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?
The basic work flow is to determine which codecs were used to create the non-playing file and then check to see if these formats are supported by your current system codec component configuration.
If the files will open in one of the QT player app, the open the inspector window to see which codecs were used to create the original file as seen here...
or here in the "Format" entry...
Or, if you have QT 7 keyed for "Pro" use, you can open the "Properties" window to gain even more information as demonstrated here...
if you file will not open in either of the QT Player apps, then you can try opening the Finder "Get Info" window for the file,
use a third-party media player that will open the file, or
use a dedicated media information utility to learn this information....
Once you know what codecs were used to create the file, post back with this information so we can deterine if the file should be natively supported by your Mac OS X install, requires an Apple Pro editing codec normally installed by the editor app, or requires a third-party codec which the user must supply.
Your information does not indicate whether or not the files actually played on the current system or were transferred from a different system which was properly configured for playbac, whether or not you recently upgraded your operating system/modified your codec component configuration by adding or deleting any codecs, whether your compound "Stuffing" of the files created corruption, etc.
As to MOV files the selves, this extension just implies the data was placed in the QT generic file container and the actually data could be of any compression format thathat was compatible with the codec component configuration for the system on which the files were created and could include natively supported system codecs, pro editing codecs, and/or third-party proprietary or hybrid codecs. (I.e., this is why we may need more information regarding the individual non-playing files.)
If I click on the Thumbnail Preview "It" runs.
f you are referring to QuickLook (QL) then the technology is different than QuickTime (QT). In the former case, the system is playing representative data but not actually opening the file as QT does. Thus, there is always the possibility that the problem is in the file structure (atom) information. For instance, suppose someone merely changed the MOV file extension in the Finder rather than actually copying data to a real MOV file container. Then it is possible that the QT player app may be searching for a codec that is not supposed or expected to be supported in the MOV file container and, not finding it, issues the erroneous codec error message—especially since you did not inticate the source of the file you are trying to play or, in some cases, which QT player is now not playing the file.
In short, there are several possibilities here and not enough specific information.
